Events to jingle, jingle all the way home

“Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh. O’er the fields we go. Laugh ing all the way. Bells o bobtails ring. Making spirits bright. What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight, oh!”---James Lord Pierpont, 1857, composer of the bestknown “Jingle Bells.”

Eastern Sierra, CA—Holiday lights shine brightly in the “Small Town with the Big Back Yard,” and the Bishop Chamber of Commerce lines up the holiday events on Main Street, with the family favorites. Join in the festivities on Saturday, December 3, when the Main Street events begin with the Rotary Club’s “Santa Mile,” a fun walk / run event, beginning at 3:45 p.m. with proceeds benefiting ending polio. The Main Street parade takes center stage, at 4:30 p.m., with the favorite Christmas movie, “Hollywood Holiday,” as the theme. Watch as the Christmas tree lighting takes place at 5:30 p.m., Bishop City Park, and then gather the family, friends and neighbors for a stroll down Main Street. The Street of Lights features the local downtown businesses, and the mer chants’ party includes an official map stamped by participating businesses, and there’s a chance you could win raffle prizes and $500 cash.

The Eastern Sierra communities celebrate holiday events, tree lightings, and arts and crafts fairs, and bringing the spirit of the season changes with each unique town. Cap ture the magic of the season, no matter where you are, and stroll and shop local.

Train rides during the holidays are a fun way to feel the spirit of the season, and get in a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The Railroad Express holiday train and festivities, at the historic Laws Railroad Museum, is happening on Saturday, December 10, 10 a.m.3 p.m. Purchase tickets ahead of time, this event sells out quickly.

The Town of Mammoth Lakes sets the winter magic flying with the Night of Lights event on Saturday, December 17, at 4:30 p.m. Canyon Lodge. The torchlight parade is a holiday treat, and it’s hard to not get excited about the spectacular fireworks display!

Snowmobiling and winter recreation in and around Bridgeport, CA and back country skiing, with professional guides and snowcat access (High Sierra Snowcat and Yurts)

to skiing and yurts in the backcountry is another way to experience the Eastern Sier ra. Lodging, dining, and shopping are available, and information can be found at the Bridgeport Ranger District Office.

And, remember, fishing never ends around the Owens River and Pleasant Valley Reser voir, and you can enjoy angling in winter, when the lakes and creeks up top are closed.
