Explore the four compass points for a taste of the holidays

Eastern Sierra, CA—It’s time to visit the holiday spirit with shopping and dining, and the Eastern Sierra has a large number of eateries, which are decked out for the holidays. In the Bishop area there’s something for everyone, from Mexican to Chinese, from homestyle to classic diner, from large gatherings to small, dining out is a special treat, and a flavorful gift for everyone. North Bound The Wanaaha Casino offers a full range of adult entertainment and dining, and the TukaNovie Restaurant serves prime rib (Friday and Saturday), and the casino will be having a New Year’s Eve party (December 31). Salsa’s Taqueria II, in the Bishop Plaza, offers Mexican dining, and the burritos and menudo menu items are very popular. Subway, in the Bishop Plaza, offers the classic sub sandwiches, and these are popular for holiday gatherings. Indiego Tasting House, on US Highway 395, is a restaurant serving breakfast and surf and turf burritos and a fresh lobster-topped salad. Mahogany Smoked Meats, a popular jerky store, serves up breakfast burritos and a variety of hot and cold deli sandwiches at the Smoke House Deli. Astorga’s Mexican Restaurant has indoor and outdoor dining options, and the enchiladas and chile rellenos are a popular menu choice. Taqueria mi Guadalajara, located at US Highway 395 and Tu Su Lane, is an outdoor seating / takeout Mexican eatery serving a Sopa Carne Asada Taco plate, Quesabirria and Carne Molida Tacos, Torta Ahogada, and Chili Rellenos. Helena’s Vietnamese Kitchen serves classic Pho and chicken with rice plates. Driving US Highway 6, northbound, Flo’s Diner, located in Chalfant Valley, is a blast to the past, with the classic 1950s-diner feel, featuring hamburgers, fried pickles, beer and wine, Shrimp PO Boy, shakes, malts, sundaes, pizza, breakfast items, and Flo’s is celebrating with an East Coast New Year’s Eve Party (celebrating New Year’s at 9 p.m.). Downtown Upper Crust Pizza, on north Main Street, serves Italian dishes, and pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, and Philadelphia Cheese Steak are popular menu orders. Starbucks serves sandwiches, pastries, breakfast items, and signature coffees. Denny’s offers American menu items, and the all-day breakfast is very popular. Aaron Schat’s Roadhouse, Main Street, has American dishes, such as hamburgers, pulled barbecue pork sandwiches and chicken wings, a full bar, and live music. Jumpin’ Juice and Java is a stop for tea, smoothies and juices, along with soups and salads, wraps, panini, and sandwiches. Molcajetes Fusion, north Main Street, highlights seafood dishes, the Tomahawk Steak, and the Seafood Molcajetes. Taco Bell is convenient for drive up orders while you’re shopping, and El Pollo Loco serves the citrus-marinated chicken, with generous sides and salsa. Holy Smoke Texas Style BBQ, Main Street, is a dining or catering experience highlighting slow-smoked meats, classic sides (like Mac and Cheese), and indoor and outdoor seating. Schat’s Bakkery offers breakfast and lunch items, along with the famous breads and pastries. Carl’s Jr. offers an American menu as well as a burrito / salsa bar. Imperial Gourmet Chinese serves Chinese cuisine classics, including Orange Chicken, dumplings, and Sweet and Sour Pork, and they have a full bar. The Pizza Factory serves a wide variety of pizzas, calzones, salads, Italian dishes, accommodates large groups, and has an arcade area. Kentucky Fried Chicken is another popular stop for busy holiday shoppers, and the big buckets of chicken turn up at many holiday gatherings. McDonald’s and the Golden Arches are well-known as an American fast food restaurant, with seasonal holiday specials. Back Alley Bowling has a variety of menu items, including seafood plates, and prime rib, and they will be celebrating with a New Year’s Eve dinner, and Cosmic Bowling. Yamatani Japanese Restaurant serves sushi, sukiyaki, and the popular Rainbow and Robbie Rolls, and they have a full bar. Jack’s Restaurant is a long-time local / visitor dining favorite, and the American-styled dishes, waffles and pies are big hits. Whiskey Creek serves American classic plates and the My Thai menu offers curries and noodle and rice dishes. Looney Bean has baked goods, daily specials with a creative flair, such as the Walnut Pesto Sandwich, and coffee and pastries. Amigos Mexican Restaurant has traditional and specialty enchiladas, including Tuesdays Baby Lobster enchiladas. El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant has a diner setting / seating, and menu items like the giant taco salad and California burrito are popular orders. Black Sheep Coffee Roasters is known for its coffees, which come from around the world, and its Main Street cafe menu (with scones and burritos) and outdoor dining area combine well for visitors and locals alike. 1903 Taphouse & Co. serves beer, wine, and

cocktails, pool tables are available, along with sports TV viewing, and the menu of American fare features homemade onion rings, and tasty sliders. Rusty’s Saloon and Grill is a cocktail bar and the menu features burgers and curly fries, and there is pool, darts, and bar games. Good Earth Yogurt serves a variety of frozen yogurts, wines, sandwiches, burrata plates, salads, and patio dining. Bishop Twin Theatre rents out the theatre for viewing your own movies, to groups (up to 40 guests), and provides popcorn and soda. South Bound Pupfish Cafe is a breakfast and lunch, locally-sourced restaurant, with quiche, Liege Waffle, scones, sandwiches, and boxed / to-go specials, like Eggs on Avocado. Mountain Rambler Brewery offers locally brewed beers, salads, burgers, and limited seating and menu items, with outdoor seating and take out available. Jack in the Box serves tacos, fries, salads, burgers, spicy chicken sandwiches, and has late night hours (open until midnight Monday-Friday). Great Basin Bakery serves classic sandwiches, bagels, soups, salads, pastries, cinnamon rolls, and a variety of fresh-out-of-the-oven breads, muffins, and cookies.Going south on US Highway 395, The Bishop Country Club is home to the 19th Hole Bar and Grill, and they’re known for the breakfast and lunch plates, with biscuits and gravy, hamburgers, shrimp platter, and a variety of lunch meal sides / choices (like homemade potato chips). East Bound East Line Street in Bishop leads to Taqueria Las Palmas offers Al Pastor dishes, the Buffalo Burrito, the Burrito Enchilada, beers, Margaritas, and a variety of salsas.Thai Thai Restaurant, at the Eastern Sierra Regional Airport, serves traditional Pad Thai, Green Curry, Chicken Satay, Crab Fried Rice, and customers get a good view of the airport tarmac / flight lines. The Owens Valley Distilling Company, located on E South Street, is a craft distillery, and they serve cocktails, and classic Chicago menu items (including the authentic Chicago hot dog). West Bound Driving West Line Street, The Rolling Chef 395 is a Latin American Kitchen, with drink specials, such as Berry Mojitos, the Havana Burrito, and La Chorreada. Antojitos Hippocampos, on Grove Street in Bishop, is a Mexican restaurant with Shrimp Cerviche, Micheladas, fruit salads, and the Coco Loco. The Delicious Kitchen is an American restaurant serving omelets, breakfast burritos, Chilaquiles, sandwiches, burgers, soups and salads. Mercado Mexico, on Warren Street, has takeout favorites like the Tacos de Pastor, Quesadillas, and Trio Taco plates. Bronco’s Deli, on Academy Avenue, is devoted to the local Bishop Broncos’ high school themed menu items, including the Bronco Sandwich, fresh bread everyday, salads, soups, and breakfast items until 11 a.m. The Burger Barn has classic hamburgers, sandwiches, a Kids Quesadilla, large french fries, and locally-sourced beef, with takeout or outdoor seating options. Pino Pies, on Grandview Road, serves daily specials, featuring locally-sourced beef, lamb, and butter chicken traditional New Zealand-styled meat and fruit pies, salads, and sausage rolls.
