Christmas in the Mountains 2021 Follow the seasons with the Antique Peddler and Nordic Lily and Coffee

Bishop, CA—Situated in the deepest valley in the country, and surrounded by some of the tallest peaks, is the Owens Valley. And, while we might not be settled in a pine forested mountain side, valley residents and visitors can’t help but experience mountain life as they recreate or pass through the region. Most residents say celebrating Christmas in the mountains is special, “It’s more home town.” Others embrace the many favorite things we do, as residents or visitors, during the winter months. From ice skating on mountain lakes to snow shoeing through the woods, the holidays present a different season to enjoy. The Antique Peddler along US Highway 395, north of downtown Bishop, CA, is a visit with all of the specialities of the seasons, and as a long-time ranching family, Wayne and Vacie Tex, owners, are well-versed in ranch and cowboy talk. The family-run business showcases antiquities, back to the 1800s, and with generations of experience in the region, the store features authentic, vintage and usable, items. Vacie, Kim Pejsa, Patti Watterson, and Katy Barnes help customers find furniture, housewares, clothing, boots, and unique art, in two buildings, and “No,” the horse out front is not for sale, but a landmark nonetheless. Next door, Joy Newcomb, owner of Nordic Lily and Coffee, ties in the businesses for a nice shopping trip. Joy serves up an assortment of hot drinks, including a tasty mocha, which complements the interesting plants and Christmas cactus in the shop. “It’s the only coffee shop this side of town,” says one customer, visiting on their way north. Close by the Highlands RV Park and travelers on US Highway 395, the coffee shop is becoming a warm welcome for locals on chilly mornings. Light and sunny, with candles and colorful plants, Nordic Lily and Coffee Shop is a good fit for the north end of Bishop.
