By Christina Reed The Hired Pen Eastern Sierra, CA-- A large group of Inyo County's constituents attended the Candidates' Forum, hosted by Inyo 350, at Bishop's Cerro Coso College campus last week. The candidates, for Inyo County's Superior Court Judge, and Inyo County's District #2 Supervisor's seat, took the evening of February 20 to elaborate on some of their ideas about these important governmental positions. The forum was structured to allow the candidates to give three minute introductions. Then, take a short time to respond to questions, which the candidates had been given prior knowledge of, so their answers were prepared.

And, finally, the audience Q and A portion, which included selected audience questions from a number of constituents. Christina Blum Justice was the moderator for the forum.

30 years of experience as an attorney. His legal experience includes both criminal and civil law, and he has worked locally with Native American tribes. Ashworth said to the question of how he would balance punishment and rehabilitation, that he hoped to help “heal people,� especially juveniles, going through the justice system. “Fair and appropriate sentencing,� Ashworth said, “with consequences enforced.� Brian Lamb is the presiding Inyo County Superior Court #1 Judge (elected in 2002 and reelected 2008). Lamb has been a part of the court leadership for the past 17 years, and he said to the question of the balance of punishment and rehabilitation, “Accountability first.� Lamb has experience in

the county's two courts, including drug court, and civil and criminal cases. The “past experience� of the individual is considered in sentencing, Lamb noted. Lamb also addressed the past admonishments from the State Judicial Committee, regarding his untimely and incorrect court reports. Administrative procedures have been put in place to prevent such incidences in the future, said Lamb. Susanne Rizo is an attorney with experience in Inyo County's Counsel's office, and she is the Director of Child Support Services. She has prosecuted battery, DUI, and domestic violence cases, and civil and environmental law cases. As to the ques-

Inyo County District #2 Supervisor Candidates The Board of Supervisors is comprised of five members, who serve roughly 18,000 constituents. Each of the five district supervisors act for their local district residents, as well as serving the entire county. The term in office is four years. District # 2 Supervisor's area includes the City of Bishop, the Bishop Airport, and the Laws community. Heather Lind is a substitute teacher, and has experience in the probation department. She commented to a question about the economic health of the district, that she felt “water� was the foundation, along with diversifying, possible “renewable energy.� Lind was also interested in helping the county expand services to the elderly and veterans. Housing, public services and revitalization were topics Lind touched on as well. Lind mentioned staffing issues, and how to bring in and keep employees in the county. Jeff Griffiths is the Vice Chairperson of the Board of Supervisors, having been elected in 2013 and reelected in 2017. Griffiths has been a part of the development of commercial air service to the Bishop Airport, and he also spoke about the creation of “a small business development center.� He noted that the formation of partnerships would enable some of these developments to take place. Housing and veterans services were mentioned by Griffiths as areas to be improved upon in the county. Griffiths also discussed further creation of “higher technology� in the region, and the county's efforts on “sustainable recreation,� and campground enhancements.
