Summer Traditions 2020 It’s Back to Business for Salons, Gyms and the Junior Livestock Show

Eastern Sierra, CA—The start of the summer season brings back some of the region's popular businesses, activities, and traditions. The state of California

now allows hair and nail salons, bars, gyms tattoo shops, massage services, and the Junior Livestock Show, will happen on June 23-26, via an online auction / show, at the Tri-County Fairgrounds. The US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management's campgrounds / services remain closed until June 30.

Looking Our Best

Junior Livestock Show Many of the traditional summer activities and events are going to look quite different when they happen, including the Junior Livestock Show in Bishop, CA, June 23-26. This event draws 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America), from California and Nevada (Smith Valley, Mason Valley, and Yerington areas) to the fairgrounds for the culmination of a year's worth of animal husbandry. The dedicated students and their livestock are judged for the overall health and quality of the animal, and the animals are auctioned to local businesses, residents, and the proceeds go to the student for their future animal projects. This year's event is not open to the public, however, it will be online and the auction will also be online. In the past events, hundreds of young people gather to be judged on their efforts, and markets in the Owens Valley, like Manor Market, purchase annually high quality beef, lamb, and pork from the Junior Livestock Show. It's also been a past opportunity for young people in the ranching and agricultural businesses to get together and discuss important farm and ranching trends. Looking around on Manor Market's walls, customers can see the past show students, and a brief thank you to the auction buyer. It's a heritage / tradition that is celebrated around the country, and is especially important to the remote rural communities in the West.

Hair and nail salons, barbershops, gyms, tattoo shops, and massage treatments are opening, June 19, statewide, and this means we can go and get our hair and nails done professionally. There are restrictions to doing business, but each merchant and stylist is required to follow careful instructions for providing these services. Physical fitness / gyms will again be available, however, calling ahead for details is advisable for appointments / reservations.

The Junior Livestock Show, June 23-26, brings young people interested in ranch / farm / agriculture together every summer, to show their animals and take them to auction. Local markets, like Manor Market, purchase high quality beef, lamb, and pork from the 4-H and FFA students.This year's show will not be open to the public, however, the online version of the show and auction will be taped for viewing.
