Celebrating 4th of July Weekend in the Sierra

Eastern Sierra, CA--4th of July in the Sierra Nevada is a busy weekend, with events, celebrations, and fireworks going off, up and down the Eastern Sierra, and into Nevada. Check out the fun and festivities: Statewide, CA—Put a fishing line in the water on Saturday, July 2. It’s FREE fishing day, from dawn to dusk, in the state. Bishop, CA—Bishop celebrates with activities all day in the Bishop City Park, and fireworks at 9 p.m., July 4. Tune in to KIBS, 100.7 radio station for a synchronized music show along with the fireworks. Remember to leave your dogs at home (no dog ordinance at the park), and no personal fireworks allowed in the park. Arrive for parking early, and picnics are ok, but alcohol is not permitted in the park. Free concert in the park starts at 8 p.m. At the gazebo. Celebrate the 4th of July early on July 1st, with the Harry Andreas Band, at the Yuhubi Nobi Gas Station and Market (corner of See Vee Lane and West Line Street in Bishop), from 6-9 p.m. There is also a barbecue, with adult plates $9.50 and kids $5, and they are having their drawing that evening too.

The Wanaaha Casino in Bishop is having a barbecue on July 4, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., with hamburgers, hot dogs and more. Independence, CA— The county seat holds its annual 4th of July events, with a parade at 10 AM, an arts and crafts fair, kids games, and barbecue in Dehy Park, July 4. Fireworks at dark, at the airport. This year’s parade theme is “Crusin’ for Independence,” with Bob and Virginia Stockman as the grand marshals. Start your day with pancakes by the Lions Club, 6:30 a.m.-9 a.m. Catch the Spelling Bee at 1 p.m. Swim at the Owens Valley School pool from 1-6 p.m. The arts and crafts show is held at the Inyo County Courthouse, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Crowley Lake, CA—The fireworks over the lake begin Monday, July 4, at dark (around 9:15 PM), and visitors are sure to enjoy the views. This event will be simulcast live on KMMT 106.6 radio station, and this year’s custom designed show, “Sky Concert,” will see more than 851 shells bursting over the lake. Admission to the show: $25 per vehicle, and $5 for walk-ins. There is a 4-day camp permitting at Crowley Lake Fish Camp, beginning on July 1-July 5. The entire lake

shore at the South Landing of Crowley Lake will be open for camping. Fee involved: $125 per vehicle, and this includes the Independence Day fireworks show. Mammoth Lakes, CA—The Village hosts events starting on Friday, July 1-throughout the weekend. The Town of Mammoth Lakes hosts its annual parade from 11 AM-1 PM, July 4. Personal fireworks are prohibited within Mono County, including the Inyo National Forest, and the Bureau of Land Management. There is a zero tolerance policy for fireworks in place with law enforcement. Bridgeport, CA—This small town celebrates its 160th Independence Day with a weekend long series of events. A rodeo, arts and crafts fair at the Courthouse, and other live events take place July 1-4. Tonopah, NV—Join in the Tonopah Star Party, on July 2, from 8-11 p.m., at the Stargazing Park (Ray Tennant Drive, Tonopah) for a free evening of award winning stars / planets viewing. 4 R Kidz parade, games, and fireworks, July 4.

JULY July 11-13 The Adventure CORPS present the Badwater® 135 Ultramarathon, now in its 45th year. This race is one of the world’s toughest races, running non-stop from Badwater, in Death Valley, to Mt. Whitney. The race starts at 282 feet below sea level, and ends at altitudes over 8,000 feet above sea level. These elite runners travel 135 miles to the finish line. Aug 21,1925 – Apr19,2022 William was born on Aug 21.1925 to William and Wilma Lemmon and went to be with his wife in heaven on April 19 2022. He went to school at Delano kindergarten thru 12th grade, then he went into the military in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He met Louse Davis in 1951, she had two girls Judy Pippin (Graham) and Carol Pippin (Hilligoss) and they got married on July 4 1952. After they were married another daughter came along, Marsha Lemmon and Marie Lemmon (Drake-Zinke) and a son Michael Lemmon. He went to work for Southern California Edison in 1958 through 1975 when he injured his back at work, He was retired from Edison in 1978. After that he became a shop sitter for Beulah Chacon until he turned 80. Then they started going on cruise's every year through the mid-2000s. He was an avid bowler until he got Charcot syndrome and could not bowl any more. He had 3 sisters and 1 brother who all proceeded him in death. His wife of 64 yrs. proceeded him and his daughter Marie. He will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends. There will be a celebration of life on Aug 21,2022 at 216 Terrace Dr, Big Pine, from 12:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon all friends that knew him and those that didn't are invited.
