" M y w i f e , K i m H a w k i n s , moved to Heaven in February 2023.

I'm happy for her being there with Jesus right now Her eyes closed here and then opened with great joy in heaven.

Kim and I met in Mammoth Lakes, California, and have enjoyed living in the region before we met and ever since. We were married for 27 years.

I wish you could have seen the gleam of heaven and the peace of God in Kim's eyes in the week before her passing. Knowing where you're going makes all the difference. She is with Jesus in the place He prepared for her. What can be better than that? I'm deeply grateful to God for using Kim to spread His love right up to the end.

She was a blessing to all and will be missed. For now I'll just say, see you later Kim.

The restored 1911 Carson and Colorado Railroad Baldwin Locomotive #18 visits sister Slim Princess #9 at Laws Station

That famous saying about “neither rain nor snow nor heat nor gloom of night” keeping couriers from appointed rounds, is often credited to the Pony Express Riders of 1860-61, and sometimes mistakenly assumed to be the motto of the U.S. Postal Service. It is neither, but it may well be the new motto of Inyo County’s local railroad workers. Every imaginable barrier to success was thrown at the Laws RR Museum’s volunteer train crew and the Carson and Colorado Railway’s volunteer train crew. Railfans nationwide have been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to ride the original Carson and Colorado narrow gauge rails at Laws Museum, behind the restored #18 steam locomotive March 18-19 and 25-26 to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the first train’s arrival at Laws Station. Despite the proverbial “rain and snow and gloom” --- in this case of road closures and flash floods accompanied by mechanical problems and detours--both teams persevered, and the visitors to Laws RR Museum last week saw the #18 transferred from the heavy hauler track to temporary track, and then onto her home track: the remaining 3000 feet of the original 300+ mile narrow gauge that once ran from Mound House, Nevada to Keeler California. Those who missed the boat (or rather the train) last weekend, have another chance this weekend, March 25-26, to experience the profound connection to history that riding the historic 401 caboose behind the Historic Baldwin engine brings. Don’t miss this opportunity! By the way, the original quote about persevering against obstacles is actually from Herodotus, 2500 years ago. And if you missed the Laws Women History Day celebration of Women in 19th century and early 20th century mining, well, we all did. Closure of Hwy 6 forced postponement of the event to April 8th 11:00am to 2:30pm. Our history docents look forward to telling you about women’s contribution to western mining history. The first 49 visitors to collect autographs from six of our twelve docents will receive a bag of polished rocks from our gift shop. We look forward to seeing you! Don’t miss these two opportunities to experience history at Laws Railroad Museum and Historical Site.
