The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend is a core part of Bend’s community and has served over 7,000 kids since its establishment. As a local organization, we utilize the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Programs to ensure every activity is a teachable moment with research-based curriculums. By giving attention to all kids – those who shine in conventional academic programs and those who may “slip through the cracks” - we provide individual care for all of our Club Kids to develop the skills they need to thrive.

Over 60% of our Club Kids rely on generous donors like yourself to provide scholarship support for all activities and resources available. $5,875 will support one child for a full year of tuition (school year and summer programming). This includes over 50 meals, more than 1,000 hours at the Club, various supplies for activities, field trips, and training our outstanding Youth Development Professionals to provide the best programs for our Club kids.

Every dollar contributed makes a difference in building a child’s future. Every donation counts towards a child’s success, and because of community champions like you, Great Futures Start Here.

CAMP FIRE CENTRAL OREGON

ABOUT US

It’s hard growing up today. In a world where so many feel disconnected, Camp Fire connects young people to themselves, to others, and to the outdoors.

We offer a variety of programs, camps, events, and service learning projects meant to engage and inspire youth. As part of the Camp Fire national organization, which dates back to 1910, Camp Fire Central Oregon has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in preparing young people for the bright futures ahead of them. We are an inclusive organization, welcoming all youth, and believe that our programs allow young people to lay strong foundations for exceptional social and life skills.

BIG BROTHER BIG SISTERS OF CENTRAL OREGON

ABOUT US

Igniting Potential Through Mentorship. Matching professionally screened adult volunteer mentors (Bigs) and kids (Littles) to defend, ignite, and empower their potential. Mentoring improves the futures of mentees through better grades, achievement of higher levels of education, and improved relationships. Young people with a mentor grow personally and have better social and economic opportunity than those who do not. Yet many kids in Central Oregon never have this opportunity, your donation will empower the next generation.

For those who are mentoring, the experience not only offers the opportunity to have fun in our community and see the world through a youth’s perspective, but builds leadership and management skills. It is an empowering way to touch the future.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon serves the Bend, Redmond, Madras, Prineville, and La Pine areas. We are a part of the nation’s largest mentoring network solely supported by donors and volunteers. Be someone who matters to someone who matters. Please join us to make a difference in a child’s life.

You have a big opportunity in front of you—to not only impact a child’s life today, but to transform their potential for tomorrow.

Become a Mentor. Go Big Today.

We’re always looking for people eager to positively impact a child and improve their community at the same time. Big Brothers are especially in high demand. Nationwide, more than 70% of children waiting for a Big are boys, but only 3 out of every 10 inquiries to volunteer come from men. Research shows that having the positive influence of a mentor makes a real difference in a kid’s life.

For a few hours, a couple times a month, you can give a Little the invaluable gift of your friendship. By simply changing their perspective of what the world can offer, you can literally start changing their life. Play a board game. Make fun crafts. Hit the playground together. Just as your options are unlimited, so is your Little’s potential. Stand up today— mentor their tomorrow. We are J Bar J Youth Services.

DESCHUTES CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION EDUCATION, FAMILY & CHILDREN

Deschutes Children’s Foundation envisions a community where all children and families have the resources they need to thrive. At our four locations, nonprofits work together to improve the lives of kids in Deschutes County. Deschutes Children’s Foundation brings the crucial work of our nonprofit partners together. Resources are shared, costs are lowered, and more vulnerable people find the help they need.

Over 17,500 children and families receive help from Deschutes Children’s Foundation partners every year. By partnering with Deschutes Children’s Foundation, local nonprofits save over $1,250,000 annually in funds that are directly invested into childcare, preschool, mentoring for at-risk youth, child abuse prevention and intervention, and social service resources for underserved children and families. Through this partnership, programs serving children and families are more efficient and sustainable. Moreover, children and families are able to access more opportunities for help in convenient, welcoming locations.

Funds donated to Deschutes Children’s Foundation support our mission to provide the space and support where nonprofits succeed at helping children and families.

FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER

ABOUT US

It all starts with family relationships! Strong, connected relationships let children know they are loved, belong, and can overcome challenges. Without this sense of belonging, children can become vulnerable to negative coping behaviors, like substance abuse. You can provide the gift of prevention by joining us in strengthening parent-child relationships. Parents who attend our classes learn positive ways to guide and discipline their children. “These past two years our family has dealt with job loss, moving, and health problems. Learning with Family Resource Center has forever changed my family.”

GUARDIAN GROUP

ABOUT US

Guardian Group’s mission is to prevent and disrupt the sex trafficking of women and children while enabling partners to identify victims and predators in the United States. Guardian Group’s team utilizes the skills and expertise of elite veteran intelligence analysts to identify and locate women and minors who are victims of sex trafficking. Our support assists local, state, and federal law enforcement in recovering these victims. We provide training at no cost to law enforcement agencies in order to ensure they have the most up to date techniques used by sex traffickers. Further, we provide training to hotels, hospitals, and other venues in order to inoculate communities against sex trafficking.

In 2022 we launched, Project 1591®, the first-ever 24/7 crowdsourcing process and platform that enables volunteers to become force multipliers to our mission of illuminating child victims of sex trafficking in the United States. This volunteer force is already making lifesaving impacts on the lives of victims of this horrific crime.

EVERY CHILD

ABOUT US

Every year in the tri-county area, over 400 Central Oregon children and families are impacted by foster care. At any point in time, about 250 children are in foster care with a disproportionate availability of a mere 172 certified resource (foster) homes tri-county. The majority of Central Oregon’s current resource providers are certified to care only for children related to them; leaving very few general homes who can care for any child in the foster care system. Due to the lack of adequate general foster homes, children all too often experience frequent placement disruption and separation from siblings. Every Child Central Oregon is determined and hopeful in our mission to improve upon the trauma and mental health effects placement issues can create for a child in foster care; offering no-to-low barrier opportunities to volunteer, donate, and learn more about becoming a resource family. We dream of a day where there are more providers than children in care, ensuring that every child has a safe and loving home to be in during their time in care.

Through our My NeighbOR tangible goods program, we provide essentially needed tangible items to children and families impacted by foster care. My NeighbOR relies on the generosity and mobilization of the community to meet these needs and provides people with a way to impact a child’s life. Since the launch of My NeighbOR, in May of 2020, we have fulfilled over 3,000 tangible items through the generosity of Central Oregon community members and businesses!

ABOUT US

We’ve all had at least one opportunity that changed our lives. Do you remember yours?

Heart of Oregon Corps provides those significant, lifealtering opportunities to local young people who need and deserve them.

Heart of Oregon Corps empowers youth and young adults ages 16-24 through employment, job training, education, and service to Central Oregon communities. Young adults learn job skills through hands-on community projects that benefit us all, like building affordable housing, reducing wildfire fuels, improving trails on public lands, or helping to fill a much-needed gap in local childcare facilities. Our programs engage youth to build confidence, a sense of purpose, and drive for their futures.

Opportunities like these are essential now more than ever, as the odds continue to stack up against our disconnected youth. You can make a difference for local youth and young adults this holiday season by donating to Heart of Oregon Corps.

SMART READING

SMART Reading is a children’s literacy nonprofit that serves kids in Oregon’s highest-need schools with two ingredients critical for literacy and learning success: shared reading time and access to books. We mobilize volunteers to read with PreK through third-grade children, building confidence, literacy skills, and a love of reading. Kids in our program get to choose and keep 14 books a year to build their own personal libraries!

Simply put, life is harder when children can’t read proficiently. Reading is a critical gateway skill that paves the pathway for successful futures. Without it, kids are less likely to graduate from high school or find gainful employment as adults, leading to a host of additional hardships. Building a strong foundation of literacy can change a child’s life trajectory, and can help prevent and alleviate issues of poverty, homelessness, hunger, and injustice.

Our goal is to be there daily for children, giving them a place to create and connect. Your donations will ensure that these kids have art workshops, mental health support, and a safe place to land.

We believe if you can’t say it, paint it!

What your donation will do:

• Expand class availability and offerings

• Help secure a dedicated art space

• Provide materials for students to express themselves

• Increase access to qualified mental health support

• Allow more Central Oregon children to access community resources

As a trusted community anchor, the Museum promotes lifelong learning, fosters empathy and understanding, and builds connection. We are accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and are a Smithsonian Affiliate. The Museum’s exhibitions and programs provide memorable experiences that promote wonder, curiosity and inspiration. This ranges from sitting in the serenity of the pine forest as birds of prey swoop right overhead in the annual Raptors of the Desert Sky program to exploring exhibitions that share stories of the High Desert through art, cultures, history and science. Faced with division and conflict, many Oregonians are seeking connection and opportunities for dialogue with one another. Oregon Humanities offers conversation, storytelling, and participatory programs that inspire understanding and collaborative change. We envision an Oregon that invites diverse perspectives, explores challenging questions, and strives for just communities.

For more than fifty years, Oregon Humanities has engaged people from all corners of the state with conversation programs, an award-winning magazine, and digital media that explore the thoughts, perspectives, and experiences of Oregonians, especially those who have been ignored, generalized, or oppressed.

With programs in Central Oregon and statewide, we offer hundreds of public conversations and programs, train and support dozens of discussion leaders, and award tens of thousands of dollars in grants to organizations that — like us — believe in the power of people listening, learning, and struggling together.

OREGON CULTURAL TRUST

Oregon Cultural Trust

Unique Cultural Tax Credit leverages Oregon dollars for culture

Created by Bend’s very own Ben Westlund, the Oregon Cultural Trust is one of Oregon’s great ideas. Designed to inspire charitable giving, the Cultural Trust’s tax credit program allows Oregonians to direct part of their state taxes to fund arts, heritage, history and humanities nonprofits across the state. How’s that for an innovative way to support your library, museum and arts groups?

Here’s how it works:

First make a donation to one of 1,500+ qualifying arts and culture organizations – including those featured in Central Oregon Gives – then make a matching donation to the Cultural Trust. Your donation to the Cultural Trust comes back, dollar for dollar,* when you claim Oregon’s Cultural Tax Credit on your state taxes.

The Trust, in turn, funds the artists, the poets, the preservationists and the dreamers who define Oregon’s great spirit and quality of life. Every year Cultural Trust funds are distributed via our network of 1,500+ cultural nonprofits, 45 county and tribal coalitions – including the Deschutes Cultural Coalition – and five statewide partners.

When you donate to the Cultural Trust, you double your impact at no cost to you and culture thrives. It’s a win-win!

* Up to $500 for individuals, $1,000 for couples filing jointly and $2,500 for C-Class corporations.

Will you join us and make your dollar count? It is the central Oregon way.

ABOUT US

3 Sisters Equine Refuge saves horses from deeply traumatizing situations and provides the equine community with resources and support so that horses can thrive. Our commitment to quality medical care, evidence-based training methods, and strong partnerships has kept horses out of the slaughter pipeline for nearly a decade.

Our impact is felt across the region. Over the last two years, we’ve taken in 67 horses including 15 wild orphans — many of which required extensive, life-saving care. We safely re-homed 25 horses and provided dozens of owners with educational opportunities and supportive networks. And we’ve engaged several volunteers and interns in our mission, making our work more sustainable, visible, and accessible to the community.

Your donation will allow us to enter 2023 with the funds and confidence needed to make an even bigger impact, grounded in proven practices and compassion. Thank you!

FURRY FREIGHT SHELTER TRANSPORT

ABOUT US

The mission of Furry Freight is to save lives by providing transport for dogs and cats from overpopulated areas to reduce euthanasia of adoptable pets. Our volunteers drive as far as Oklahoma and Texas to pick up these pets from our partners that are desperate to save them. Each pet is evaluated behaviorally and medically, then selected by our receiving partners throughout the Pacific Northwest. Most of the pets we transport are adopted into loving homes in less than a week of becoming available, and many within a few hours.

We are super excited that we are on track to reach over 1,000 pets transported by the end of this year! Your gift will help pay to get more pets to safety and also help fund our Spay It Forward program so less unwanted litters are born in overpopulated areas. Check out more ways to help shelter pets on our website at https://furryfreight.org/help.

PET EVACUATION TEAM

ABOUT US

The Pet Evacuation Team (PET) exists to serve people and animals in crisis. Emergency animal evacuations and sheltering during disasters are critical to our community and save lives. PET works in partnership with the Red Cross, law enforcement and local emergency services during Central Oregon disasters, providing care and a safe haven for animals who have been evacuated. We have assisted in disasters for over 20 years, including 16 local wildfire evacuations, and a flood in Prineville. PET also provides crucial support to individuals with animal/pet-related emergencies, and to law enforcement in animal seizure cases. Our all-volunteer, non-profit organization serves all of Deschutes County, and parts of Jefferson and Crook Counties.

Each fire season is worse than the last one, with fires often occurring in different locations simultaneously, and lasting longer. To serve people and pets in crisis PET is seeking donations to repair and maintain their two emergency response trucks and trailers. These carry life-saving equipment and supplies to evacuation and shelter locations.

BETHLEHEM

ABOUT US

“Never in a million years did I think I would be homeless,” says Rick, “but then one day I was.” Rick learned about Bethlehem Inn, called and was welcomed. “I was safe and I had a space I could call my own,” says Rick. “They know your name. They’re there for you.” During his stay at the Inn, Rick worked for one of the region’s largest home builders. He was able to start saving. He found a place to live and got a car.

Bethlehem Inn operates on the foundational belief that everyone is deserving of compassion. The Inn works directly with those experiencing homelessness, providing shelter, case management services, and life-affirming support. Our mission is to “transform lives together through shelter, help, and hope”, a goal we carry out every day thanks to your support.

At this very moment, over 1,200 adults and children are homeless in Central Oregon. Together, we are providing services that empower hundreds of people toward a more stable and fulfilling life. For more information on how you can be part of the solution visit our website: bethleheminn.org.

CASCADE YOUTH & FAMILY CENTER

ABOUT US

Shelter and programs for youth who have runaway or are experiencing homelessness, as well as youth at risk of running away. Crisis intervention services include family mediation. Outreach provides kids living on the street access to supplies and other help, as well as recently re-opened drop-in hours for showers, laundry, and meals. Emergency Shelter gives teens a safe place to escape the perils of living on the streets or time to help a situation at home deescalate. Longer term Transitional Living at the LOFT helps youth complete their education and develop skills for self-sufficiency. Cascade Youth & Family Center (CYFC) offers only shelter and programs of its kind within 200 miles.

Recently, in an effort to better serve all of Central Oregon, CYFC expanded their services in Redmond with a case manager specifically for the Northern Deschutes County area. In the past, case managers have made the drive from Bend to meet with teens and families in crisis or conflict. Having a full-time office in Redmond’s Becky Johnson Center will make these services easier to access and schedule.

“This addition helps us cover Deschutes County. Case Managers used to drive all the way from La Pine to Redmond.”

CYFC’s Basic Center Program Manager Vandi Reiter explains. “Now, our Redmond based Case Manager will cover Redmond and Sisters, and those based in Bend can focus on Bend and La Pine.” The program also responds to referrals in Madras and Prineville, and provides services in those communities when needed.

The Basic Center Program in Redmond can offer the same emergency shelter for youth or who need time outside the family home to allow a situation time to deescalate and work through the mediation process, as well as to those who may be living on the street or couch surfing. There are two rooms at CYFC’s LOFT in Bend, and others in host homes. The program is currently seeking host homes throughout the region, to allow youth to stay in their hometowns.

GRANDMA’S HOUSE

ABOUT US

Essential nurturing resources for a vulnerable population: Shelter and programs for youth who are pregnant or parenting while experiencing homelessness or escaping abuse. For 30 years, this home has provided 24/7 hope, support, tools, and education to help young parents make good life decisions and become self-sufficient. A safe and supportive environment where they can learn about health and parenting, continue their education, and gain the needed life skills for a smooth transition into independent living or a safe return to family. The only shelter and program of its kind east of the Cascades in Oregon. We are J Bar J Youth Services.

ABOUT US

In operation since 1998, First Story exists to strengthen communities and break the cycle of multigenerational poverty by allowing underserved populations the opportunity to build wealth and find stability through homeownership. First Story collaborates with builder Hayden Homes to construct homes in their communities which are then sold through First Story’s zero-down, zero-interest 30-year loan program. This unique approach, that avoids segregated housing, provides move-in ready homes to qualified applicants who are at or below 80% area median income.

First Story knows that the journey to homeownership begins with education. First Story partners with other housing nonprofits in Central Oregon to provide homeownership education as a first step to a First Story home. We’ve witnessed how homeownership education programs help individuals transition from renter to homeowner and we’re committed to making that a reality for more families throughout Central Oregon.

And to help, this holiday season First Story is seeking to provide $10,000 in scholarships to families for homeownership education courses so they can be one step closer to celebrating the holidays in a home of their own. Young families. Single parents. Veterans. Seniors. Show us anyone who wants to own a home, and we’ll show you someone whose chances of success are far higher with a practical course or two in homeownership education.

By contributing to this visionary campaign, you may be the very reason a neighbor will one day say “home sweet home.”

INTERFAITH MOVEMENT FOR IMMIGRANT JUSTICE

ABOUT US

The Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice (IMIrJ) equips people of faith and secular communities to advance immigrant justice through direct accompaniment of immigrants facing detention and deportation, policy advocacy and organizing. We envision an Oregon in which our economic and governmental systems shift through repair and reconciliation to create collective liberation and embody our faithful values of safety, dignity and shared prosperity.

Founded in 2006, IMIrJ is in relationship with leaders from over 140 faith communities throughout the state of Oregon. We are an organization made up of diverse faith communities, faith leaders, and secular individuals called by our conscience to respond actively and publicly against acts of injustice to ensure our shared and collective wellbeing. Our accompaniment program focuses on physically accompanying immigrants as they navigate an inhumane immigration system. Our organization puts relationships at the center and seeks to accompany immigrant communities and allies whether they’ve been engaged in the work of immigrant justice for 3 days or 30 years.

KÔR COMMUNITY LAND TRUST

ABOUT US

The City of Bend is one of the fastest growing mid-size cities in America. This growth has created a housing crisis, displacing our local workforce. In response, Kôr is building 50 affordable and sustainable family-sized homes.

Kôr Community Land Trust provides environmentally sustainable and permanently affordable homeownership opportunities for those who contribute to the fabric of the Central Oregon economy. These are working families who can qualify for a mortgage but cannot afford to purchase a home on the rising market when their own wages remain stagnant. Our homeowner shares the impact of an affordable home that produces enough renewable energy to meet its own energy consumption. “Our net-zero energy home is invaluable in this climate. Our electric bills are $12 a month thanks to our home’s solar panels. The money we are saving on our utility bills is going towards our son’s college savings plan.”

With your help, Kôr can create sustainable, equitable communities where everyone can afford to live where they work. Every $50,000 raised helps build a sustainable home. Donate now to help us reach our $25,000 goal that will be matched by a local family!

SHEPERD’S HOUSE MINISTRIES

ABOUT US

At Shepherd’s House Ministries, we strive to feed the hungry and to shelter those experiencing homelessness, but our deeper aim is to walk alongside the hurting and the needy to effectively address the life-controlling issues that perpetuate the long-term cycles of pain and homelessness. In an environment of grace, our goal is not to modify behavior. Our goal is to see hearts healed and lives changed from the inside out.

Life change begins with the basics for the underserved in our community. One meal, one shower, one pair of shoes is the beginning of hope for the hopeless. Along with the “Basics,” change begins with connection. Shepherd’s House Ministries provides a loving, gracefilled community leading to transforming growth.

Our long-term program is built around a nine month to two year, six phase program that has proven to be very effective in helping people break the cycle of homelessness, pain, and hopelessness.

Founded in 2010, The Giving Plate is a grassroots food pantry with a simple mission of — “Feeding the hungry today with compassion and hospitality.” Over the past 12 years, The Giving Plate has grown from an initial dream to serve 500 families experiencing food insecurity to the largest food pantry in Central Oregon with three hunger-relief programs (Grocery Program, Kid’s Korner, and Backpacks for Bend). Currently, we are serving an average of well over 800 families each month in our grocery program alone and about 40,000 individuals a year throughout all of our hunger-relief programs.

By living our mission, we are intentional in our efforts to remove the stigma and shame commonly associated with visiting food pantries. In late 2023, we will be able to offer something truly special for our neighbors in need — a Community Store to do “grocery shopping” for the food they want and need for their families. We will also offer a fun and unique Kid’s Korner Store for the children to visit and do their own shopping. This shopping style of serving our guests will normalize the food-relief service we are offering. Your support helps us not only fight hunger but feed hope.

1000 Friends of Oregon is the watchdog organization for Oregon’s statewide land use planning program. Our mission is to work with Oregonians to enhance our quality of life by building livable urban and rural communities, protecting family farms and forests, and conserving natural areas. This winter, we’re bringing 25 land use advocates and activists together for our first Land Use Leadership Institute (LULI) focused in and on the pressing land development and conservation issues in Central Oregon — including rapid population growth, housing, resource lands, transportation, wildfires, climate change, and water access and management.

Central Oregon LULI participants are learning how to shape land use decisions at the local level to save farm, forest, and ranch land and to recognize benefits of carbon sequestration on these lands, build our communities in climate-friendly ways that reduce commute times and greenhouse gas emissions, and prevent hazardous growth in high-risk wildfire zones. And after the series wraps up in the spring, 1000 Friends will support graduates to continue working together to engage in land use decisions that impact built and natural environments in Central Oregon.

As an environmental watchdog and land use advocate, we work to protect farm and forest land, conserve instream river flows, defend wildlife habitat, and advocate for equitable and sustainable communities. As a community-supported organization, the majority of our funding comes from individual donors. With your support we can defend our region’s beauty and unique character and continue to guide healthy and sustainable communities for Central Oregon’s livable future.

LINES FOR LIFE

ABOUT US

The YouthLine has been serving Central Oregon for over 20 years, working in classrooms and answering calls and texts from youth in crisis since 1993. In 2019, The YouthLine established the first YouthLine satellite team in Central Oregon on the OSU Cascades campus. Since then, more than 40 youth volunteers have been trained and answered thousands of crisis calls, texts, and chats in Oregon and across the United States.

In October of 2022, we opened a second Central Oregon satellite on the Warm Springs Reservation. This program will train native Native youth volunteers to respond to calls, texts and chats and engage them with relevant and culturally specific ideas. Our staff and youth volunteers are working hard to meet the growing needs of youth experiencing mental health issues — whether it is a bad grade, a relationship break-up, gender identity, or suicide ideation. The YouthLine is expanding to meet those needs and decrease the stigma surrounding talking about mental health and suicide.

YouthLine operates under the umbrella of Lines for Life; a non-profit dedicated to the prevention of substance abuse and suicide and the promotion of mental wellness for all.
