ome of the best wedding shots are inspired by spontaneity and adventure, which was certainly the case for the photo we chose for the cover of the Cascades Wedding Guide 2018.
The couple snuck away from their still-partying guests just before sunset. Photographers in tow, they ventured to their special spot, full of excitement with the anticipation of spectacular views. They were not disappointed.
Winning photographers, Andrew Larkin and Jed Pearson of Andrew Paul Photography were given total reign over the shot list for this couple’s big day. When discussing when and where to take their wedding photos, the couple suggested a forest service road just outside of Bend, a short distance from where the ceremony and reception was being held.
With the sun slowly setting and a backdrop of trees and magnificent mountains, the couple shared a kiss and this incredible photo was born.

Love is an adventure, there is no doubt about that. When you embrace it, you get something far better—which in a word can be described as “epic.” (Plus, a really incredible photo to hang in the hallway for years to come).

Share Your Unique Love 2018 Wedding Trends
W
hen you first envisioned your wedding day, you likely pictured yourself walking down a church aisle in a white dress or the conventional tuxedo. The marriage ceremony is based on a long history of well-established traditions, but if you are looking to break away from the typical on your special day, the good news is that the wedding celebration has come a long way baby! Each year new trends offer the modern-day bride and groom the opportunity to put together an event that is uniquely their own. The following are the most popular approaches couples are using as they plan their unique 2018 weddings.
Bold Colors & Metallics Your wedding colors don’t have to be earthy just because nature-based weddings are on the rise. According to Bree Denman and MarianWeislogel of The Indigo Bride, you can and should feel free to be bold! They agree that bright, bold colors add a lot to floral arrangements and even suggest couples consider adding metallics. “We love adding touches of chrome, silver, or gold for that modern vibe,” says Weislogel. “However, be sure to stay away from the glitter and sequins of last year’s trends.”

Lush Natural Wedding Sites & Décor From the table settings to arches filled with greenery and flowers to the bride’s bouquet, one of the biggest reoccurring themes couples are choosing to include in their plans is nature. Melissa Vandenbroucke of Ceylon Blue Wedding Planning and Styling says she sees more and more brides incorporating arches that are full of greenery, flowers and the use of flowing chiffon in trees at their wedding sites. “My favorite (trend) though, is the classic and beautiful textured linens that drop to the ground on round tables all dressed up with beautiful place settings and flowers,” says Vandenbroucke. “There are no words to describe a room full of this gorgeous look.” According to Curtis Tracy Curtis from Woodland Floral and Design, garden style, free-flowing bridal bouquets with lots of textural foliage are still on trend this year. If you aren’t quite willing to take your wedding to the woods, there are lots of ways you can incorporate woodsy elements into your celebration.

Distinctive Table Settings According to Melissa Vandenbroucke, owner of Set in Your Way Rentals, table-scapes using geometric terrariums are a wedding day favorite for 2018. She says with votive candles, flowers, or greenery placed in them, they are a versatile and affordable alternative to the traditional centerpiece.
14
Byron Roe Photography
Owner of Woodland Floral Tracy Curtis also sees a rise in the use of sleek, geometric shapes paired with lush florals. She says this trend exudes a modern elegance and is particularly popular with the more contemporary bride.

Adventure Elopement Weddings If your relationship is enhanced by a mutual love for the outdoors spiked with a little bit of adrenaline, then you might want to look into planning an adventure wedding or elopement. Denman and Weislogel say that adventure elopements are one of their favorite upcoming trends. “They create a unique celebration for your closest family and friends in a beautiful, romantic location,” says Denman. “Choosing an elopement allows you to do something fun and memorable like climbing a mountain together at sunrise, or saying your vows in the middle of an enchanting forest.”
Wedding photographer Erica Swantek describes herself as a sentimental wedding photographer for free-spirited and natural couples who love the outdoors. Her number one suggestion for couples looking to plan an adventure ceremony is, “If you really want those epic outdoor photos in amazing locations, you need to be sure to plan for it in the timeline, or do a day after shoot.” She says, “I always try to encourage couples to allow time around sunset for the best lighting, which here in the PNW is often later in the evening.”

Etiquette Advice Know The Rules of the Wedding
A
t first glance, wedding planning may look like it is all about picking colors and menu items that fit every guest’s diet, but before you dive into the details make sure you understand the ins and outs of wedding etiquette so you don’t derail your special day. With the help of Melissa Vandenbroucke, owner of Ceylon Blu Wedding Planning and Styling, we’ve put together the ceremony protocol basics along with some tips on what’s expected from you, your family, and guests from the moment you start planning until the day you say, “I do.”
Etiquette for the Bride & Groom Starting with the stars of the show, what is expected of the bride and groom when it comes to wedding etiquette? From how you invite people to how you interact with your guests on the day-of, the following are some suggestions to consider: If you invite someone to your bachelor/ bachelorette party or wedding shower, you must also invite him or her to the wedding. Don’t leave your guests waiting for the after-party to start. Your celebration loses its momentum and your guest may

feel forgotten if there is a long gap of time between the “I do’s” and the toast. Vandenbrouck says that choosing professional vendors is a must. “Even if they are your friends, they need to know how a wedding runs,” she explains. “If you have your brother DJ you want to make sure he is ok with being the MC and helping with the flow of events through the day. There is nothing more uncomfortable for your guests then when there is a long lapse of time when no one seems to know what needs to happen next.” Show appreciation for your wedding party. The friends you choose to be part of your wedding are investing time and money. It is your job to make sure the experience is as stress-free and affordable as possible. Saying, “Thank you” with a small gift is also a good idea.
Wedding Party Etiquette It is the wedding party’s job to show up to all of the events and practices. Vandenbroucke says it is traditional that they also pay for their own outfits but suggests that brides and grooms take cost into consideration. If you choose expensive outfits, be prepared to cover some of the expense.
Guest Etiquette Guests should follow all of the standard party rules: show up on time, dress appropriately, don’t assume kids are invited, etc. According to Vandenboucke, one of the faux pas that frustrates her clients the most has to do with RSVPing. “One of the biggest complaints I get…is that no one RSVPs—or at least very few do,” she says. “It is frustrating for the couple who are trying to stay within a budget and still have all their guests come to celebrate with them.” Remember to RSVP on time Your wedding day is a special, oncein-a-lifetime experience that is sure to bring smiles and laughter when it’s looked back upon in the years to come. Studying up on the standard etiquette as it applies to planning and celebrating will ensure that the laughter you enjoy, doesn’t come at the expense of the actual experience. Best to leave those moments for all to enjoy on the silver screen.

Love is an Adventure Adventure-themed weddings dominated the Central Oregon wedding scene in 2017. Many couples strayed away from holding the traditional wedding when celebrating their love, and instead opted in for a wedding that mirrored their adventurous and deeply-rooted Oregon romances. Whether your love is gorgeously simple, or filled with total thrills, the most important thing to remember when planning your big day is to go with whatever fits your romance best and finding the adventure that is uniquely yours.

There is no limit to what a couple can do for their big day, and no one ever said you have to limit your wedding photos to one day. This couple enjoyed a funfilled wedding day, followed by a day-after adventure photoshoot, where they hiked around and eventually found themselves in the middle of the Deschutes River. What better way to say, “I love you than a fun river adventure together.

Animals & Weddings Four-Legged Family Members Invited
W
eddings are an affair for the entire family. Siblings, parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts, and even cousins from both the bride and groom’s families are likely to attend. Some brave couples even invite the youngest members of their tribe to participate in the event. So where do the furriest members of your family stand when it comes to saying your, “I dos”? According to Sarah Bass, owner of Bella Brides in Central Oregon, in some cases they are not only allowed at the party, they are essential for pulling off the perfect nuptials. More and more couples are deciding to include the family dog or some kind of animal in their wedding day festivities. For many, their pets are like their children and it feels essential to have them present. Others are just animal lovers who want to add a little magic to their event. The following are some useful tips for incorporating animals into your special day.
Deciding Your Approach If you are an animal lover looking to add a little fur and fun to your ceremony, it’s a good idea to sit down with your wedding planner and find the best approach. Bass says there are a couple of common roles that animals play on the wedding day. Unsurprisingly, the first is letting your family
dog, cat, or other beloved pet play the role of ring bearer. “We’ve rented several bowties to parents of furry pals,” says Bass. Feel free to make sure that good old rover looks the part when he plays it. If you don’t have a family pet, or want an additional animal onsite, Bass says riding in on a horse or in a horse-drawn-carriage is another common way people involve animals. “Many people prefer the carriage in order to minimize damage and dirt on their outfits,” explains Bass. “However, after the ceremony, horses make extremely beautiful additions to pictures.” She MR Photography also notes that for Indian weddings it is customary for the groom to ride in on a horse or an elephant.
Tips for Making it Work Like children, pets don’t listen to directions as well as full-grown humans. A wedding ceremony involving animals can get chaotic fast. Bass offers the following tips for making a wedding with animals go well.
1. If you choose to make your dog the
ring-bearer, take some practice runs in addition to the rehearsal before the wedding. It’s important that your pooch gets familiar with the space and having people around when he walks down the aisle. 39
2. You always want someone responsible
for walking the dog down the aisle no matter how well trained he is. It’s too big of a day for a runaway dog!
3. Lastly, like with small children, whatever happens is cute. Do not expect perfection.
Your wedding day should be uniquely your own. With more and more families choosing to include animals in their celebration of love, the sky is the limit. Bunnies, llamas, goats, and even pigs can be a great addition to photos and fun. According to Bass, these personal additions help really make the wedding yours and she insists, “Your wedding should express who you are as a couple and should include those who are most important to you, both your human and non-human family.”
