Legendary photographer Ansel Adams to be featured MOUNT VERNON — A new exhibit at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts has even the staff excited. “Classic Images: Photographs by Ansel Adams” will be in the Mitchell Museum Main Gallery from Saturday, Feb. 25, through May 6. The exhibit is owned by Adams’ daughter, Ann Helms, and features 70 images from “The Museum Set,” a rare portfolio of photographs hand-printed by Adams and considered by the artist to be his life’s best works. “This collection of Adams’ photographs features the same images that were selected by the National Gallery of Art for an Ansel Adams tribute exhibition they presented in 1985 after his death,” said Rusty Freeman, director of visual arts at Cedarhurst. An opening reception is set for 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The event is free and open to the public and will also commemorate the opening of a number of other exhibits at the museum. Freeman will conduct a gallery talk at 6 p.m. Photographer Michael Sarver will present a program on the different types of cameras used by Adams during his career at 11 a.m.

DIMAGGIO’S: Top 20 Restaurant of the Week FROM PAGE 2 Pasta options range from spinach Florentine ravioli, baked penne and beef tortellini. The DiMaggio’s menu is also peppered with meatfree alternatives.

From thin crust to Chicago style, it’s easy to see why pizza helped establish DiMaggio’s as a popular dining choice. The dough and family recipe sauce are made from scratch, and the toppings are abundant.

DiMaggio’s offers dinein or carryout options and will cater events of any size. Devotion to customers is what has helped the restaurant thrive. “It’s all about dedication,” Angie said. “We work a lot.”

Amped-up and packed with action ‘Act of Valor’ features real Navy SEALs

More films coming out this week

Act of Valor **1/2

Two other movies opening locally this weekend are not being screened for critics in advance of their release. First, Tyler Perry returns to theaters with “Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds.” The movie tells the story of a businessman who has always done what’s expected of him, whether it’s taking the helm of his father’s company, tolerating his brother’s misbehavior or marrying his restless fiancée. But when he meets a single mother working on the cleaning crew, the encounter with someone so far outside of his usual circle ignites something. Perry directs and stars in the film. Thandie Newton, Gabrielle Union and Eddie Cibrian co-star. The film is rated PG-13 for sexual content, language, some violence and thematic material. This weekend’s other new release is director Heitor Dhalia’s “Gone,” starring Amanda Seyfreid, Daniel Sunjata and Jennifer Carpenter. A woman comes home to discover her sister has been abducted. Having escaped from a kidnapper a year earlier, she’s convinced the same culprit is behind this disappearance. She embarks on a chase to find the killer, expose his secrets and save her sister. It is rated PG-13 for violence and terror, sexual material, language and drug references. Both movies open Friday at ShowPlace 8 in Carbondale.
