The only voice is Witzigreuter’s, which is often overlapped and autotuned to make the songs sound like they are sung by a group, as opposed to just one. The It Boys! is a Los Angeles group working on a debut album, which will be released this summer. The band is known for its upbeat and energetic tunes infused with dance and rock influences. Matt Toka is also working on his debut album, but he’s taking a more nontraditional path to success, using YouTube to share his punk covers of songs like Adele’s “Someone Like You” and Coldplay’s “Paradise.” Tickets for the show, the last stop on the tour, are $22 to $27 and can be purchased at southern ticketsonline.com or by calling 618-453-6000. — Adam Testa

At age 4, he learned how to snowboard, spending time with his grandfather in the mountains of New Hampshire. When he was 2, he attended his first monster truck show with his mother and brother. Now, at age 6, he finds himself behind the wheel of a mini-monster truck, belonging to a team lead by his 8-year-old brother, Kaid Jaret Olson-Weston. Together, they are two-thirds of Kid KJ’s Lil’ Mighty Monsters, the youngest collection of monster truck drivers in America. The duo will be joined by 14-year-old Cassie Berry in a showcase at the E3 Spark Plugs Monster Truck Nationals in Du Quoin this weekend. Jake, Kid KJ and Cassie will compete at all three shows in their respective

FESTIVALS
Project X ** Rated R for crude and sexual content, nudity, drugs, drinking, reckless behavior and mayhem — all involving teens; starring Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper and Kirby Bliss Blanton; directed by Nima Nourizadeh; opening Friday at ShowPlace 8 in Carbondale “Project X” is the movie equivalent of that goodlooking, well-off teenage boy your gut tells you to keep away from your teenage daughter. That doesn’t really describe Thomas (Thomas Mann), the gawky teen in this “Hangover” for high schoolers. But it nails his pal Costa (Oliver Cooper, in the Jonah Hill role). Costa’s a transplanted New Yorker who eggs on Thomas as they plan a parents-out-of-town party, mocks their mutual “fat little ‘Rain Man’” pal J.B. (Jonathan Daniel Brown) for being in the
THEATER school “Gay-V. Club” and is hell-bent on turning this North Pasadena fete into an epic party that will be the “game changer” for their social status. Things only start to go wrong when they rip off Costa’s well-armed, disturbed drug dealer. Costa has blasted the invitations all over social media, so Thomas will be hosting hordes of “randoms,” peers who don’t know he exists. Not to worry, though. Costa has hired a team of middle-schoolers led by Tyler (Nick Nervies). They have nunchucks and tasers and jackets with “Security” on them. What could go wrong? “Project X” is more politically incorrect than hateful. Clueless boys in its target audience may mistake it for a date movie. “X” is that beau who sets off warning bells when he’s there to date your little girl. You won’t want to let her out the door with this creep. — Roger Moore, McClatchy-Tribune News
