Generic name: ezetimibe (e˘-ze˘t´-e˘-mı¯b)

Read this information carefully before you start taking ZETIA and each time you get more ZETIA. There may be new information. This information does not take the place of talking with your doctor about your medical condition or your treatment. If you have any questions about ZETIA, ask your doctor. Only your doctor can determine if ZETIA is right for you.

WHAT IS ZETIA? ZETIA is a medicine used to lower levels of total cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol in the blood. ZETIA is for patients who cannot control their cholesterol levels by diet and exercise alone. It can be used by itself or with other medicines to treat high cholesterol. You should stay on a cholesterol-lowering diet while taking this medicine. ZETIA works to reduce the amount of cholesterol your body absorbs. ZETIA does not help you lose weight. ZETIA has not been shown to prevent heart disease or heart attacks. For more information about cholesterol, see the “What should I know about high cholesterol?” section that follows.

WHO SHOULD NOT TAKE ZETIA? • Do not take ZETIA if you are allergic to ezetimibe, the active ingredient in ZETIA, or to the inactive ingredients. For a list of inactive ingredients, see the “Inactive ingredients” section that follows. • If you have active liver disease, do not take ZETIA while taking cholesterol-lowering medicines called statins. • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, do not take ZETIA while taking a statin. • If you are a woman of childbearing age, you should use an effective method of birth control to prevent pregnancy while using ZETIA added to statin therapy. ZETIA has not been studied in children under age 10.

WHAT SHOULD I TELL MY DOCTOR BEFORE AND WHILE TAKING ZETIA? Tell your doctor about any prescription and non-prescription medicines you are taking or plan to take, including natural or herbal remedies. Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions including allergies. Tell your doctor if you: • ever had liver problems. ZETIA may not be right for you. • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Your doctor will discuss with you whether ZETIA is right for you. • are breast-feeding. We do not know if ZETIA can pass to your baby through your milk. Your doctor will discuss with you whether ZETIA is right for you. • experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness.

HOW SHOULD I TAKE ZETIA?

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF ZETIA® (EZETIMIBE)? In clinical studies patients reported few side effects while taking ZETIA. These included diarrhea, joint pains, and feeling tired. Patients have experienced severe muscle problems while taking ZETIA, usually when ZETIA was added to a statin drug. If you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness while taking ZETIA, contact your doctor immediately. You need to do this promptly, because on rare occasions, these muscle problems can be serious, with muscle breakdown resulting in kidney damage. Additionally, the following side effects have been reported in general use: allergic reactions (which may require treatment right away) including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat that may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing, rash, and hives; raised red rash, sometimes with target-shaped lesions; joint pain; muscle aches; alterations in some laboratory blood tests; liver problems; stomach pain; inflammation of the pancreas; nausea; dizziness; tingling sensation; depression; headache; gallstones; inflammation of the gallbladder. Tell your doctor if you are having these or any other medical problems while on ZETIA. For a complete list of side effects, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT HIGH CHOLESTEROL? Cholesterol is a type of fat found in your blood. Your total cholesterol is made up of LDL and HDL cholesterol. LDL cholesterol is called “bad” cholesterol because it can build up in the wall of your arteries and form plaque. Over time, plaque build-up can cause a narrowing of the arteries. This narrowing can slow or block blood fl ow to your heart, brain, and other organs. High LDL cholesterol is a major cause of heart disease and one of the causes for stroke. HDL cholesterol is called “good” cholesterol because it keeps the bad cholesterol from building up in the arteries. Triglycerides also are fats found in your blood.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ZETIA Medicines are sometimes prescribed for conditions that are not mentioned in patient information leaflets. Do not use ZETIA for a condition for which it was not prescribed. Do not give ZETIA to other people, even if they have the same condition you have. It may harm them. This summarizes the most important information about ZETIA. If you would like more information, talk with your doctor. You can ask your pharmacist or doctor for information about ZETIA that is written for health professionals. Inactive ingredients: Croscarmellose sodium, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, and sodium lauryl sulfate. Issued July 2009 REV 21 29480885T

• Take ZETIA once a day, with or without food. It may be easier to remember to take your dose if you do it at the same time every day, such as with breakfast, dinner, or at bedtime. If you also take another medicine to reduce your cholesterol, ask your doctor if you can take them at the same time.

WRITE AN EYE-CATCHING ONLINE DATING PROFILE Helen Fisher, author of Why Him? Why Her? on how to grab someone’s attention

1

Choose a clever name. People are going to make up their minds about you in less than a tenth of a second. If you’re stumped, ask a friend.

2

Keep it short—as in 12 sentences or less. And don’t start with “I can’t believe I’m doing this.” After all, everyone’s in the same boat.

3

Be specific. Instead of saying, “I’m smart, funny, kind, and athletic,” show it. Describe what you love to read, or where you’d like to travel.

4

Strike the right tone. Be flirty (not sexual) and charming. People are attracted to the positive, so leave out what you consider deal-breakers. Humor is great if you can pull it off.

5

Tell the truth about your age and appearance. Your date will see you soon enough, so it makes no sense to lie.

6

Skip the clichés. Everyone likes walks on the beach and candlelit dinners. Be more imaginative.

7

Stay open-minded. An endless list of sought-after traits risks turning off people you might really like.

• If you forget to take ZETIA, take it as soon as you remember. However, do not take more than one dose of ZETIA a day.

8

• Continue to follow a cholesterol-lowering diet while taking ZETIA. Ask your doctor if you need diet information.

Edit your photos. Choose one full-body shot, one close-up of your face, and one of you in action.

• Keep taking ZETIA unless your doctor tells you to stop. It is important that you keep taking ZETIA even if you do not feel sick. See your doctor regularly to check your cholesterol level and to check for side effects. Your doctor may do blood tests to check your liver before you start taking ZETIA with a statin and during treatment.

I hope not! She’s a warrior, and that’s her uniform.

When it comes to human papillomavirus (HPV), females are only half the equation. There are 30 to 40 types of HPV that will affect an estimated 75% to 80% of males and females in their lifetime. For most, HPV clears on its own. But, for others who don’t clear certain types, HPV could cause cervical cancer in females and other types of HPV could cause genital warts in both males and females. And there’s no way to predict who will or won’t clear the virus. GARDASIL is the only HPV vaccine that helps protect against 4 types of HPV. In girls and young women ages 9 to 26, GARDASIL helps protect against 2 types of HPV that cause about 75% of cervical cancer cases, and 2 more types that cause 90% of genital warts cases. In boys and young men ages 9 to 26, GARDASIL helps protect against 90% of genital warts cases. GARDASIL may not fully protect everyone, nor will it protect against diseases caused by other HPV types or against diseases not caused by HPV. GARDASIL does not prevent all types of cervical cancer, so it’s important for women to continue routine cervical cancer screenings. GARDASIL does not treat cervical cancer or genital warts. GARDASIL is given as 3 injections over 6 months.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients of GARDASIL, including those severely allergic to yeast, should not receive the vaccine. GARDASIL is not for women who are pregnant. The side effects include pain, swelling, itching, bruising, and redness at the injection site, headache, fever, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and fainting. Fainting can happen after getting GARDASIL. Sometimes people who faint can fall and hurt themselves. For this reason, your child’s health care professional may ask your child to sit or lie down for 15 minutes after he or she gets GARDASIL. Some people who faint might shake or become stiff. This may require evaluation or treatment by your child’s health care professional. Only a doctor or health care professional can decide if GARDASIL is right for your child. You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit www.fda.gov/medwatch or call 1-800-FDA-1088. The topic of gene-sharing can be bent any way you choose, so no absolute answer exists. It’s easy to find ways to categorize genes as common. For instance, it has been stated that we share half our DNA with bananas. (Genes are segments of DNA.) Some people enjoy such findings; others are annoyed by them. At least it lends new meaning to the phrase “being driven bananas.” Our relationship to mice is a good example. Mice are used in research because they are very similar to humans genetically, they reproduce rapidly, and they have short life spans. Plus, their genes can be manipulated at the molecular level. About 99 percent of all human genes have a mouse counterpart. Of these counterparts, roughly 85 percent are similar. Some of them are almost identical. The bottom line? It’s not our similarities that count— it’s our differences.

rad pitt rushes in from his film set, apologizes for being late, and heads off to take a shower and change. It’s been another long day in a year crowded with them, what with the charitable work he’s done (often with his love of six years, Angelina Jolie), the parenting of their six children, and several movie projects, including May’s The Tree of Life and the film he’s shooting now, World War Z, a zombie thriller due next year. “My boys love the zombies,” he says when he returns to his suite at Elstree Studios near London, hair wet and combed back. Dressed in blue jeans, a white T-shirt, and a gray windbreaker, the 47-year-old actor looks fit and relaxed on this summer day. He orders us pizza and salad. “I wanted a nice afternoon tea with civility and charm and no pizza box,” he says with a laugh. “Then they called me into work!” His big release this fall is Moneyball, opening Sept. 23, in which he plays Billy Beane, the baseball player turned Oakland A’s general manager who in the early 2000s used statistical analysis to assemble a winning team without having to shell out star salaries. “I became obsessed with the book [by Michael Lewis],” Pitt says, “and what the guys in Oakland did in reimagining the game— like questioning a religion, in a way. I set off on a four-year quest to make the book into a movie.” During the lengthy conversation that follows, he speaks just as passionately about family and finding time for what’s important in life.

Drivers loved how fun and smart it was. It was fuel-efficient and low-hassle. It was refreshingly different. And every year since, we’ve made it better. to Hollywood and getting paid silly amounts of money. I’ve traveled the world and seen mothers and babies dying because they don’t have a 30cent treatment that is available in industrialized nations. I feel like I have to share whatever I can. You’re culpable if you don’t act. You know, we bitch about raising taxes. I think the argument is that it’s my money, I earned it, why do I have to pay for other people? I get very frustrated with that argument. I don’t mind paying taxes. I live in a country that gave me the opportunity to make money, and most people on this planet do not have that.

I was surprised at how automatic it is, how much of it is instinctual. And now I have a great confidence and trust in those instincts. I mean, one sound at night and you’re awake and up because they may need you. Or when they start to have a tantrum, you know to divert them from spinning out by helping them focus on something. It just goes on and on. I tell them, “You can make a mess, but you’ve got to clean it up.”

I was so intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage [to actress Jennifer Aniston] had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t. What about the celebrity cacophony today? You and Angelina have been subject to fabrications about your personal lives.

I mean, how many stories have you read that aren’t true, stories about me and Angie being married or fighting or splitting up? And when we don’t split up, there’s a whole new round that we’ve made up and we’re back together again! We’ll get married when everyone can. We’re not splitting up. And we don’t have a seventh child yet.

You and Angelina have three foreign-born adopted children [Maddox, 10, from Cambodia; Zahara, 6, from Ethiopia; and Pax, 7, from Vietnam]. Why not adopt American kids who need a home?

How will you protect your children from the pitfalls of celebrity?

I have no desire to be in politics because I want to live free, and I don’t know how you can do that as a politician. It wouldn’t be good for me, and I wouldn’t be good for it. For one thing, I would be making Bushisms, like, every third day. [He laughs.] One malapropism after another. What work appeals to you, outside of acting?

Building is what I’d be best at, and I should be doing it. [Pitt and his Make It Right foundation are constructing new, green houses for hurricane victims in New Orleans.] Not that I would be at the level of my architect heroes, but that’s what I’m trying to get into. I’ll build houses, anything. I actually have some partners, and we’ve done many architectural designs, conceptuals, really interesting stuff. I’ve got hundreds of furniture designs that I have full-scale models for.

TRIED AND TRULY DELICIOUS.

What attracts you to architecture and design?

I speak best in shapes. It’s my best vocabulary. Much better than English. Are you a happy man?

I put much more emphasis on being a satisfied man. Happiness is overrated. There has to be conflict in life. You get to a plateau, and you’re spurred on to the next plateau, the next direction, the next season. I’m satisfied with making true choices and finding the woman I love, Angie, and building a family that I love so much. A family is a risky venture, because the greater the love, the greater the loss. You’re putting yourself on the line. That’s the risk we take. That’s the trade-off. But I’ll take it all.

MOVIES

Voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn— Part 1 (Nov. 18) Starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner

The Ides of March (Oct. 7) Starring George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Evan Rachel Wood

Clooney cowrote and directed this dark drama about an idealistic press secretary (Gosling, above) caught up in backroom double-dealing and scandal during a presidential primary. Hoffman and Giamatti play rival campaign managers, and Clooney is the candidate who inspires loyalty—at first. “It represents something I see in our country a lot lately: running as fast as you can at any cost,” says Clooney. “It’s sometimes our best quality, and sometimes our worst.”

Happy Feet Two (Nov. 18)

In the franchise’s penultimate film, Bella and Edward get hitched, honeymoon, and have a child. But their happiness comes with some life-altering—and very bloody—consequences. “This is a romance and a horror movie,” says director Bill Condon. “It’s Twilight grown up.”

In this sequel to 2006’s Oscar-winning surprise hit, dancing penguin Mumble (voiced by Wood) struggles to be a good dad to a chick who’d rather fly than trip the ice fantastic. “The heart of the story is, how do you help your children find their way in the world?” says cowriterdirector George Miller. New character alert: Matt Damon and Brad Pitt voice a tiny, odd-couple pair of bioluminescent krill named Will and Bill. “There’s a whole saga between these two that the other characters don’t see because they’re so small,” Miller says.

The Big Year (Oct. 14)

Starring Owen Wilson, Steve Martin, Jack Black

Though inspired by a nonfiction book about an annual competition to spot the most bird species in North America over 12 months, this movie features eccentric birders who are “made up out of whole cloth,” says director David Frankel. Black plays a divorced computer whiz who’s leveraging credit cards to crisscross the country, Wilson is a wily defending champ, and Martin plays a rich businessman coping with retirement. “When they riff,” Frankel says, “it’s like a great jazz trio.”

Tower Heist (Nov. 4) Starring Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Matthew Broderick, Alan Alda, Casey Affleck

This comedic caper stars Stiller as an apartment building manager plotting to steal $20 million from the penthouse of a financier involved in a Ponzi scheme. Researching what it’s like to be employed by the ultrawealthy was illuminating, the actor says. “It’s crazy what they have to do, like covering for someone who’s seeing a girl on the side,” he notes. “One guy told me he was in somebody’s apartment when the fire alarm and sprinklers went off. His first instinct was to protect the Picasso on the wall.”

Real Steel (Oct. 7) Starring Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, Dakota Goyo

Welcome to heartland America circa 2020, where battling robots have supplanted fleshand-blood boxers in the ring. Jackman (below) plays an exfighter coaching a mechanical contender with the help of his estranged young son (Goyo). Director Shawn Levy promises plenty of Rocky-esque uplift amid the pummelings. “Hugh is an unabashedly emotional guy,” says Levy. “And this is an unabashedly emotional comeback story. It’s about the redemption of Hugh’s protagonist more than it’s about machines hitting each other.”

Puss in Boots (Nov. 4) Voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis

After stealing scenes in the Shrek sequels, the swordwielding feline (voiced by Banderas) gets his own prequel adventure, joining forces with Kitty Softpaws (Hayek) and Humpty Dumpty (Galifianakis) to purloin a golden egg–laying goose. Banderas says he drew inspiration for Puss not from his four cats but from a surprising human source: actor David Niven. “Just his attitude, his strong presence,” Banderas says, “that gentleman thing he always carried with him.”

SHOWS THAT SAY “VENGEANCE IS MINE!” If you like pretty people with money, then Revenge (ABC, Sept. 21, 10 p.m. ET) is the payback drama for you. Emily VanCamp plays a young woman who returns incognito to the Hamptons to ruin the friends and neighbors (including Madeleine Stowe) who long ago brought her father down. Is a western throwdown more your style? Hell On Wheels (AMC, Nov. 6, 10 p.m. ET), set during the construction of the

Transcontinental Railroad and simmering with post–Civil War tensions, follows a former Confederate (Anson Mount) tracking down the Union soldiers who killed his wife. Colm Meaney and Common (below right, with Mount) costar. “We’re trying to be as accurate about the politics of the time as we can be,” says Mount. “You’re going to see conflicts between black and white, North and South, Irish and German. A lot of lines are going to get crossed.”

MAGICAL MYSTERIES An ex–CIA agent on the skids (Jim Caviezel, super-intense) is recruited by a billionaire computer geek (Michael Emerson, creepy as ever) to stop crimes before they happen in

Person of Interest (CBS, Sept. 22, 9 p.m. ET). We have no idea how the technology side of it is supposed to work, but with über-producer J. J. Abrams (Lost) and writer Jonathan Nolan (The Dark Knight) on the case, we’re there. Teases Emerson (above left, with Caviezel), “I would call it a paranoid action thriller for the surveillance age.”

A Gifted Man (CBS, Sept. 23, 8 p.m. ET) blends surgery with the supernatural: A hard-driving doctor (Patrick Wilson) spends an evening with his ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle) and then discovers she died not long before. Soon she’s popping up regularly, urging him to continue her work at an innercity clinic and turning him into a better person in the process. An exceptional cast means this drama could be a cut above.

THE SWINGING ’60s

THE NEW FUNNY LADIES Zooey Deschanel (below) oozes quirky charm on New Girl (Fox, Sept. 20, 9 p.m. ET) as Jess, a dumpee who moves in with three guys and gets more dating advice from them than she can handle. Did we mention that she also randomly bursts into song? “Whenever she feels awkward, she sings,” says Deschanel, who’s known for singing (much better than Jess) in real life. “It reminds me of those 1930s films where women were allowed to be eccentric.”

If you long for the days when air travel was as exciting rather than exhausting, consider Pan Am (ABC, Sept. 25, 10 p.m. ET) your ures friendly-skies flashback. This drama features plenty of soapy intrigue, with a dollop of cold war espionage thrown in for good measure. “Aesthetically, it’s a gorgeous time period,” says star Christina Ricci (right). “But there was also an optimism and hopefulness.” Mad Men doesn’t return until spring, but Eddie Cibrian will try to channel the Don Draperr vibe on The Playboy Club (NBC, Sept. 19, 10 p.m. me ET). The Chicago mob subplot is a welcome distraction from the show’s oft-repeated notion that putting curvy cuties in bunny ears b. and cottontails was a form of women’s lib.

A single dad (Jeremy Sisto) and his teenage daughter (Jane Levy) move out of New York City to Suburgatory (ABC, Sept. 28, 8:30 p.m. ET), hoping for a calmer, slower lifestyle. What they find instead is part Mean Girls, part Desperate Housewives— but with a smart, sardonic tone all its own. Cheryl Hines costars as a chirpy mom who’s not as shallow as she seems.

A curse has trapped Snow White, Rumpelstiltskin, and others in our world, with no memory of who they are. The filmmaker’s involvement as an executive producer has built the buzz around Terra Nova (Fox, Sept. 26, 8 p.m. ET), a sci-fi drama in which a lucky few (including Jason O’Mara, below left, and Stephen Lang) travel from the overpopulated and oxygen-deprived world of 2149 back to dino-filled times to start anew—but with 22nd-century technology. “At this point in history, Earth belonged to the dinosaurs,” says Lang. “We’re the interlopers. And there is always a threat of getting in their way.”

Charlie’s Angels (ABC,

Sept. 22, 8 p.m. ET) gets a reboot, as three babes (Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly, and Rachael Taylor) who’ve run afoul of the law are tapped to work for the unseen Charlie. Lots of Miami-set action and one startling twist keep the first episode lively. (Fans of the original series will enjoy a visual joke involving the new Bosley.)

Physicians recommend HTY GOLD® “A natural product with powerful antioxidants that miraculously rejuvenates aged skin to its youthful appearance, HTY GOLD® is truly a revolutionary product. I highly recommend it.” STEVEN K. STRUCK, M.D., ATHERTON, CA “It’s hard to believe that HTY GOLD® could improve skin this much, but I have seen the results...patients notice a dramatic difference.” STEVEN BLOCH, M.D., GLENVIEW, IL

On Unforgettable (CBS, Sept. 20, 10 p.m. ET), Poppy Montgomery (above, sitting) stars as a former detective who—like Marilu Henner, a consultant on the series— has the rare ability to remember almost every detail of her life. Her only hazy day? The one on which her sister was murdered when they were kids. Dylan Walsh plays the ex-partner (and ex-lover) who coaxes her back into police work. It’s not as brilliant as the British series with Helen Mirren, but Prime Suspect (NBC, Sept. 22, 10 p.m. ET) has its strengths, chief among them Maria Bello as a New York detective striving to rise in her department while maintaining some semblance of a home life. “Some people will appreciate her abrasive and direct personality, but not everyone is going to like her,” says Bello of her character. “And she’s okay with that.”

Tim Allen (far right), the quintessential guy’s guy on Home Improvement, brings his star power to Last Man Standing (ABC, Oct. 11, 8 p.m. ET). He plays the marketing director of an outdoor sporting goods store who likes to hunt, fish, and travel—but with his wife (Nancy Travis) back at work and three daughters at home, he’s going to have to make a few adjustments.

Coping with the demands of a newborn is hardly rocket science. But on Up All Night (NBC, premiered Sept. 14; regular time slot Wednesdays, 8 p.m. ET), Christina Applegate and Will Arnett (above) make it look comically chaotic, wringing laughs from sleep deprivation, dwindling date nights, and a boss (Maya Rudolph) who thinks a basket of gourmet goodies is a fine gift for baby what’s-his-or-her-name.

For A Limited Time. While Supplies Last.

GREAT VALUE As Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar kicked off TV’s undead trend. Now she’s back in Ringer (The CW, premiered Sept. 13; regular time slot Tuesdays, 9 p.m. ET), playing devious twins Bridget and Siobhan, each of whom wants to escape her life. “Imagine your favorite soap opera coupled with Damages,” says Ioan Gruffudd (above, with Gellar), who plays Siobhan’s husband. “People will tune in as a guilty pleasure but leave thinking, ‘Wow, this is good drama.’ ”

If You Received an Unsolicited Text Message Advertisement, You Could Get Up to $100 from a Class Action Settlement. A Settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit about whether mobile ad company B2Mobile sent text ads to consumers without receiving explicit consent to do so and whether some of those text ads were sent on behalf of lead-generation company LeadClick Media. B2Mobile and LeadClick Media are referred to as the “Defendants.”

i spent a good portion of my childhood loitering around my baba’s [grandmother’s] kitchen as she cooked traditional, nourishing borscht. My “dido” [Ukrainian for grandfather] inevitably was drawn in by its aroma, and we spent magical time together in the kitchen. Baba cooked while Dido played his fiddle and spun folk stories about runaway doughnuts that refused to be eaten. My mother and aunts made borscht, too, and each had her own technique. Borscht was served on holy days and holidays. For me, it represents love, joy, and harmony of family. I met my husband [musician and producer Renn Hawkey] when he was on the road with his band. I won his heart with this soup. After one sip, his stomach ruled his heart. The next thing I knew, he was moving in with me.

Vera’s Tips P “For a bolder taste,

substitute lamb. I like to use lamb rib chops or loin chops.”

P “Homemade stock is preferred for a deeper, more heartfelt flavor.” P “Serve the borschtt with lightly toasted and buttered wholewheat Portuguese ciabatta rolls.”

Farmiga (with actor Sean Mahon, above) makes her directorial debut with Higher Ground, in which she also stars. The movie is in limited release nationwide.
