“You guys legitimately scammed us… our units are not gonna be ready until a month and a half into school?” Nabi com mented on a post on the Air Buffalo Ins tagram page. “Nice strategy to get us tied up in the lease and then break that kind of news.”

On Aug. 28, complications during check-in at the hotel and tense exchanges with Air Buffalo management presented a final straw. Snyder has been solid through UB’s first two games. He didn’t particularly stand out against Maryland two weeks ago (18-for-35 passing for 160 yards with no touchdowns), but he never made a cost ly mistake against a Big Ten opponent. Like Marshall, he put on a dazzling per formance last week against Holy Cross. Snyder also proved to be a threat on the ground and rushed for 67 yards in addi tion to his 305 passing yards and three touchdowns. Coming off the best game of his career, Snyder should see ample op portunities against CCU.

In many ways, Coastal Carolina is a representation of what UB aims to be. The Chants are one of the most formi dable Group of Five opponents in college football and have developed a model of consistency over the past three seasons. UB put up a good fight in a 28-25 loss against CCU last season, but the Bulls are on a downward trajectory this time around. Expect UB to compete yet ulti mately fall short against a superior team on the road Saturday.

Graduate wide receiver Justin Marshall asserted himself in last week’s matchup against Holy Cross. After a modest 52yard showing against Maryland in Week 1, the Louisville transfer exploded for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Marshall could take advantage once again against Coastal, who allowed 448 passing yards against an inferior opponent in Gardner-Webb last week. He’ll have difficult matchups against super-senior cornerback D’Jordan Strong (two-time All-Sun Belt First Team selection) and redshirt freshman corner back Lance Boykin (two interceptions last week), so a strong performance could go a long way in solidifying Marshall as a bigtime playmaker.

The Rock & Roll Hall-of-Famer ex plained that he had no plans to become a musician when he moved to LA, yet the unforeseen nature of their paths drew them together. The magnetism between them was so strong that it relieved any thought of signing the standard contract between musician and manager.

In fact, UB didn’t even have a film pro gram until Lieberman got there. After ar ranging a meeting with then-Provost Eric Larrabee, he put together a proposal and created the department now known as the Department of Media Study. In 1967, he became the first person to graduate from the university with a degree in film.
The emotional impact of his films is what separates them from others. Even a film like “Fire in the Sky,” his terrifying 1993 alien abduction thriller, is at its core about friendship and what it means to be a human being.
Gordon recalled his thought process: “How do I communicate to the parents of London how despicable Alice Cooper is? So that they’ll say to their kids, ‘you’ll get grounded if you go to the concert.’”
“And that’s where Alice and I really came together [and found] that we could create a character that could be a part of a social revolution,” Gordon said.

But what’s Lieberman most proud of? It’s not an award, it’s not a specific film and it’s not directing Lauren Bacall or Jon Voight. It’s the ability to communicate what it’s like to be a good person, he said.
Since then, he’s filmed over 200 hours of TV and seven feature films and directed a long list of stars from James Earl Jones to Yao Ming.

This past weekend, Lieberman returned to his hometown to screen his cult-favorite film, “Fire in the Sky,” part of a fundraiser for the Buffalo nonprofit Squeaky Wheel Film & Media Art Center. The screening was held at a place of great personal sig nificance to Lieberman: the North Park Theater.Lieberman credits the historic theater with sparking his passion for film. After struggling to find filmmaking op portunities in Buffalo, Lieberman went to Hollywood and soon found work directing commercials and TV episodes. He eventu ally won the first-ever Directors Guild of America Award for Best Commercial Di rector.
“I get people saying ‘you ruined my childhood,’” Lieberman said. “It’s a pretty scary little event. But that’s not why I made it… I made it because there was a beautiful story about friendship.”
Within 24 hours of being in Los Ange les, UB alum Shep Gordon had quit his short-lived ambition as a parole officer at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall and stumbled into the Hollywood Landmark, a hotel where Jimi Hendrix helped plant his feet in the music industry as a manager for Al ice Cooper.
Their refusal to compromise Cooper’s identity created a cultural moment that could never be replicated today.
Along with their undying admiration, their unconditional trust and respect for each other in their 53 years together is what they owed their seamless relationship and successful career to.
