HarrogateGuide The fresh, new flooring show! More highlights “Being ‘off the shop floor’ enables me to have discussions without distraction about building relationships and how we can move forward.” Steve Pearson, Astra Carpets

The Flooring Show, Harrogate, takes a fresh new look at the sector as it opens its doors to the industry with more than 120 leading companies from 10 countries on show alongside an innovative event schedule. A host of ideas from the new management team, backed by fresh investment and strong exhibitor commitment, are reinvigorating this year’s event. Beyond the new launches that are a feature of exhibitors at the show, the organisers have built a programme around the event that is focused on creating opportunities for visitors to improve their business For the retail sector, an expanded seminar programme will focus on assisting flooring retailers to build their businesses in difficult times - including a new feature on store displays. For the commercial sector, a dedicated one day conference programme based on leading case studies will meet the CPD requirements of facilities managers, specifiers and installers. Wendy Adams, Flooring Show Director, said: “We have designed the event to be essential and unmissable - we have made sure that visitors can enjoy opportunities to gain a real advantage for their business.” As the only UK event exclusively dedicated to the flooring industry, it’s the one place and time when the whole sector gets together, making it the ideal opportunity for visitors to see their current suppliers, meet new ones, network, and learn about new products and launches.

Creative store displays in Hall C will feature three specially commissioned creative sales displays and the props used can then be reproduced by retailers. Designed by Laura Casey and co-ordinated by Joanna Ramsden of Wools of New Zealand, these displays will provide some amazing ideas for creative but simple shop window and interior displays that can help inspire consumers and highlight the important role flooring has in the selection of other domestic features such as wall coverings, curtains and furnishings. The seminar / conference programme for the retail / domestic sector has the theme: Increasing the profitability of your business in tough times and the keynote address will be by ‘retail champion’ Clare Rayner with the theme: Enhancing your retail presence. The UK’s first conference dedicated to commercial floor coverings will be hosted at the show with the theme Best practice, shared knowledge aimed at facilities managers, architects and specifiers, specialist installers. In a coup for the organisers, the creators of the Olympic Stadium floorcovering for the London 2012 Opening Ceremony - the Le Mark Group - will give a case study presentation on the project.

Abingdon goes for gold Abingdon Flooring are again looking forward to a very busy Flooring Show at Harrogate. The show gives them an opportunity to showcase brand new ranges, present new marketing initiatives and just as importantly, engage with old and new customers in the 'socially friendly' environment that is Harrogate. In celebration of the shows 50th anniversary, Abingdon will be having a drinks reception, prize draw with innovative prizes and a ‘fire sale’ of clearance products each evening between 4.30pm and 6 pm. Abingdon are expecting a good turnout from retailers In order to reward visitors to the show yet further, they will also be running some incentives for new ranges purchased in addition to any orders brought to the show - all will be revealed accordingly. Abingdon are looking forward to seeing you there.Hall Hall A Stand 15/19

‘50 Shades of Beige’ After the saucy success of the best-selling novel Fifty Shades of Grey books, Regency have come up with an unashamedly cheeky promotion of their latest (pattern) book, ‘50 Shades of Beige’ – another best-seller! The UK manufacturer is making a serious point as well – the Regency collection distributed by Furlong Flooring has been successfully developed in recent months with the most contemporary range of beige shades which remain the UK’s most popular choice, of course, for carpet - so the best beige wins the biggest business. On show at Harrogate will be the new colour options for the Regency brand leader Satisfaction range together with the smart new illuminated lectern that presents the collection to best effect. Neil Valentine (left) is pictured with Peter Sharpe of Furlong Flooring, with the new illuminated lecterm. Hall C Stand 1 T 01772 316155

Points means prizes Retailers are urged to join the Loyalty Club from Crown Floors in order to amass fantastic rewards for themselves and their staff. With points available for every square metre of Crown Floors carpet sold, Loyalty Club members can collect and redeem them against a range of luxury and everyday gift items found at www.crownfloorsloyaltyclub.co.uk. Goods from well-known brands such as Apple, Sony, DeWalt and many more are on offer, presenting retailers and sales assistants with the perfect opportunity to treat themselves with something special or get their hands on the latest must-have gadget. And now with the launch of the brand new Crown Floors ranges, it has never been a better time for retailers to sign up to the club. As James Caldwell, sales coordinator, Crown Floors, explains, “the Loyalty Club has been incredibly successful to date, and we want to encourage more retailers to take advantage of the scheme. It is a superb way for us to say thank you to our loyal retailers for ensuring the success of our brand, and it’s great to be able to reward their continued efforts. “Now we have updated the Crown Floors collection to include a whole array of exclusive designs, it really is a brilliant time for new retailers to register and for existing members to start increasing their points balance. We are committed to continuing to grow the success of the Crown Floors collection through dedicated promotional materials and innovative POS designs, so the Loyalty Club is the ideal way for new and current retailers to take advantage of this.” Hall A Stand 1

Stairrods in top trim Stairrods preview their New Premier solid brass trims which includes a Double-Z naplock, a single naplock, and a 38mm cover plate in 9 finishes. John Raine was particularly proud of the 'Double Z' design which allows the fitter to 'dress down' the carpet, which until now has been impossible with current solid brass profiles on the market. The 'Double-Z' also reduces the need to stock both a Double and a Z trim, as a groove in the base allows the fitter to peal off one side when fitting carpet to laminate. Stairrods have used their extensive knowledge of finishing brass stair rods and put this to good use. The new Premier Trims will be available in chrome, satin chrome, pewter, brass, antique brass, satin brass, antique bronze, satin nickel and polished nickel. Production estimated November. Green and clean For retailers looking for high-performance and resilient carpet that also offers exceptional environmental benefits the extensive range of SmartStrand carpets from Mohawk is a smart choice. Offering exceptional environmental benefits, SmartStrand carpet fibre is in part derived from corn. The manufacturing process also offers a reduced level of environmental impact when compared to an equivalent amount of nylon, so carpets made with this fibre are an ideal choice for retailers looking to attract ecologically conscious consumers. SmartStrand fibre delivers unique performance properties that will have farreaching appeal. Suiting the busiest of homes, SmartStrand carpets offer lifetime stain resistance so are great for areas prone to stains and spills. In fact, SmartStrand is the only carpet with built-in stain and soil resistance that will never wash off, and it is easy to clean with just water. SmartStrand carpet is exceptionally soft, too, with twist pile textures that feel luxurious underfoot. Available in a seemingly unlimited range of colours and styles, homeowners can choose from warm deep tones to soft pastel hues. With a variety of POS displays that explain the unique SmartStrand manufacturing process, retailers can be sure that this carpet will catch the attention of consumers. Rhys Davies Carpet Logistics Covering the Nation The UK’s largest independent carpet and flooring delivery specialist Rhys Davies Carpet Logistics (RDCL) will be exhibiting for the fourth year in succession at The Flooring Show Harrogate on 2-4 September.

Experience

Cost Effective and Flexible Solutions

Rhys Davies’ involvement in the carpet industry began in 2004 when it stepped in to help Belgium-based Associated Weavers following the demise of its UK distribution company. RDCL assumed responsibility for distribution within six weeks of being selected, with no previous experience of carpet distribution.

Recent expansion of the specialist fleet with new vehicles and overnight trunking trailers, and increases in the delivery frequency have seen RDCL become the ‘go-to’ network for all flooring delivery requirements including rolls, cuts, rugs, pallets, point of sale, samples and accessories. The application of variable pricing versus more traditional ‘fixed cost’ fleet options has proven immensely attractive to RDCL customers who have all achieved a significant return on outsourcing.

Eight years on, RDCL is firmly established as the UK’s leading carpet and flooring distribution network, handling nationwide deliveries for nearly twenty of Britain and Europe’s top manufacturers and distributors.

National Coverage Utilising the RDCL depot network, with nine locations in Andover, Barnsley, Birmingham, Cardiff, Haydock, London, Newton Aycliffe, Rainham and Whitburn - Scotland, carpets and flooring are collected from the UK and mainland Europe, and then received into the nearest depots. The carpets are then checked, sorted, and loaded for delivery or overnight trunking to another RDCL depot as appropriate. Once at the delivery depot, the rolls and cuts are loaded onto the specialist dedicated carpet delivery vehicles. Deliveries are made on a nominated delivery day to the entire mainland of the UK, without reliance on sub-contractors. Each postcode region receives deliveries on the same named days each week.

Frequent Deliveries Successful growth has meant that delivery frequency has continued to increase, to the point where most UK postcodes are serviced twice or three times per week. Typically upto fifty percent of consignments are now delivered next day, with over ninety five percent of consignments delivered within three days. Although a large proportion of deliveries are to independent retailers, RDCL also deliver to contractors, out of hour’s contractors and residential addresses.

RDCL continues to invest in IT systems to improve service levels. Orders are usually received via EDI, and this information is then used, along with product barcodes, to track the life cycle of the carpet from point of collection right through to point of delivery.

Export and Import The network has also seen growth in the export and import of flooring products globally by road, air and sea. Recent examples include exports to Afghanistan, Canada and Australia and imports from the USA, China and India. All these are handled by the carpet team using Rhys Davies’ Freight Forwarding division, providing confidence and accountability at all stages of the process.

Expansion 2013 will continue to see more developments and improvements in the breadth of services offered. Experienced and skilled staff supported by a nationwide logistics network and robust IT systems means that your carpets and flooring are in good hands. Why not join RDCL for a no obligation chat at Stand M6 at Harrogate to discuss your logistical requirements. Hall M Stand 6
