HEY JAX JONES! OUR FRESHERS COVER STAR! WHOOP WHOOP! YOU’VE HAD A FULL-ON SUMMER, NICELY WRAPPED UP WITH YOUR ANTHEM RELEASE “TONIGHT (D.I.Y.A)”, IN COLLAB WITH JOEL CORRY AND JASON DERULO! HOW WOULD YOU SUMMARISE THE SUMMER JUST GONE?
Hi mate, y’alright? It’s been an intense and busy summer, but I’ve enjoyed every minute. Started o with a pop-up tour around the UK and will nish with a full UK tour, in-between released my single Tonight with Joel Corry and Jason Derulo, played a lot of clubs and festivals all around the world from Ibiza to Japan, and worked on some very exciting new projects that I will be able to talk more about soon.
WOW! IT’S NOT THE FIRST TIME WORKING WITH JOEL CORRY. HE’S ALSO A PREVIOUS SPG COVER STAR! WHAT’S IT LIKE WORKING WITH HIM AND PERFORMING TOGETHER? DO YOU HAVE ANY COOL STORIES YOU CAN SHARE?
Joel is great. I really enjoy working with him - in the studio or at a show. He’s family. We spent a few days at the start of the summer chasing Jason Derulo around Ibiza to shoot content for our collaborationplanes, taxis and boats were involved. When we nally tracked him down, we all had a fun time together.
HOW DID THE TRIO COLLABORATION COME ABOUT ALSO WITH SUPERSTAR DERULO?
Joel had a connection to Jason, and we worked on the track together for many months remotely. It wasn’t until we were wrapped and had to nd him in Ibiza that we got to meet in person.
YOUR MUSIC IS UPBEAT AND ENERGETIC, NO DOUBT GETTING PLAYED BY STUDENTS ACROSS THE LAND AT FRESHER’S PARTIES! WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 PARTY BANGERS?
Cascada – Everytime We Touch Fred Again – Jungle Charlie XCX – Club Classics
YOU’RE BRINGING A HOT TOUR TO THE UK VERY SOON! ARE THERE ANY UPCOMING GIGS YOU’RE SPECIFICALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO?
I’m looking forward to all of them. Every city has a di erent vibe, and I always try to adjust my sets in the best possible way to make sure the people get what they expect!
HOW OFTEN ARE YOU WORKING ON NEW TRACKS AND HOW MUCH UNRELEASED MUSIC IS ON YOUR HARD DRIVE?
Ohhh I can’t even tell how much unreleased music I have. LOADS! I think that’s common for a producer to have like a thousand demo versions lying around which are just not nished. However, sometimes I re-discover them and start working on them again.
WHEN IT COMES TO BREAKING INTO THE MUSIC SCENE, AND GENERAL SUCCESS, WHAT ARE THE TOP 3 ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED?
Stay on it, even if it might be hard sometimes. Always believe in your gut feeling. And surround yourself with people who you trust.
I get inspired by a lot of people and things. If I had to choose one, I’d probably say Pharrell Williams inspired me the most. I love his music, what he’s doing and his attitude. WHO INSPIRED YOU IN YOUR MUSICAL JOURNEY?
BEING A ROLE MODEL YOURSELF AND IN THE POSITION YOU ARE - CAN YOU TAKE US BACK, HOW DID YOU BREAK INTO THE SCENE? WAS IT PART OF A PLAN? AND DID YOU ALWAYS KNOW YOU’D BE SUCCESSFUL IN MUSIC?
If you asked my parents they would’ve said that’s not a ‘real job’ which is why I studied nance. But aside I always pursued my music career. I bought a little 50GBP computer on Gumtree, downloaded the music programme Logic and taught myself how to produce. So, whilst all my friends were out partying, I skipped some lectures and made music. There were ups and downs but when I was 25, I met my manager Dan and that’s when my project Jax Jones came alive. I produced the song ‘I Got You’ together with Duke Dumont which was my rst hit single. And it was massive! The rest is history I guess…
LET’S TALK TRAVEL AND TOURING!!! WE’VE SEEN YOU TRAVEL IN STYLE TO PERFORM AROUND THE WORLD! WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESTINATION AND WHY?
I have a lot of favourite destinations. But if I had to choose one, it would probably be Thailand. My wife has family there so we’re there quite often which is why me and my family chose to live there part-time.
De nitely be excited for some new music with incredible features and of course my UK tour where I’ll hopefully see loads of you guys! WHAT’S NEXT FOR JAX JONES?
That’s a good question. You’ll never know I guess but hopefully still on main stages worldwide and sipping drinks at the pool in Thailand. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS?
FOR ALL THE FRESHER STUDENTS OUT THERE DO YOU HAVE ANY INSPIRATIONAL WORDS?
Enjoy the now and pursue your dreams! Even when everybody says it’s impossible, you should stay on it and prove them wrong.
PIXIE LOTT IS BACK! WHOO-HOO! LIFE AND THE WORLD HAVE CHANGED A LOT SINCE WE LAST SPOKE 14 YEARS AGO! HOW ARE YOU, WE’VE MISSED YOU!
Ahhh I’ve missed you too but my golly it is good to be back!!! I’m really happy thank you! How are you? I’m now a mama and my new album is coming out so soon!!
CONGRATULATIONS! WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GET BACK IN THE SPOTLIGHT?
It has been 10 years since I’ve put out an album - I can’t believe it!!! However, I have been doing several other projects in the midst of this time, so it feels like I have been working away on other things! This album has taken me 5 years as we really took our time to make timeless, real, raw, storytelling songs and whilst I didn’t think it would take that long I also didn’t want to rush it. I have actually been very impatient to get the new music out but now I actually feel like the timing couldn’t be more perfect and I really hope you enjoy it.
HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC/SOUND CHANGED? ARE YOU BRINGING ANY SPECIFIC LIFE EXPERIENCES/INFLUENCES INTO YOUR NEW MUSIC?
Yes, allll of the songs are based on my life over the last 5 years including all the lessons I’ve learnt and life mantra’s. It is the rst album I’ve made as a complete cohesive body of work with live musicians in mind and leading the whole project with just 2 collaborators. We were inspired by a lot of live music and 70’s bands and singer/songwriters.
YOUR DEBUT ALBUM REACHED NUMBER 6 IN THE UK ALBUMS CHART AND SOLD OVER 1.5 MILLION COPIES. WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS OF YOUR NEW ALBUM BEING RELEASED THIS SEPTEMBER?
I have no idea I’m just over the moon to be releasing new music and to be able to perform it at my shows now!
IS THE ALBUM FINISHED YET, AND DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE SONG FROM IT?
Completely nished and handed in and it has been a looong time coming. My favourite songs are ‘Blockbuster Video’ and ‘Comes Back Around’.
ARE YOU IN ANY WAY APPREHENSIVE ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING ALBUM RELEASE? DO YOU FEEL ANY PRESSURE COMING BACK AFTER A LONG TIME WITH YOUR PREVIOUS ACHIEVEMENTS, AND LIVING UP TO THE SAME HIGH STANDARD?
I am really just focusing on the excitement of it all because it really is the album I’ve always wanted to make so I feel like I’m already over the moon.
IN TERMS OF APPREHENSION AND ANXIETY, A LOT OF STUDENTS WILL HAVE RECENTLY LEFT THEIR HOMES, MOVED TO A NEW AREA AND WILL BE FEELING ANXIOUS ABOUT STARTING UNIVERSITY. WHAT WORDS OF WISDOM CAN PIXIE LOTT OFFER TO FRESHER STUDENTS?
I would say, you will look back at these times and say, ‘Wow, those fresher days were the best times of my life!!’ You’re gonna meet lifelong friends, have amazing days and nights out and the biggest belly laughs so just enjoy all the moments!!! It might feel scary at rst, but everyone is in it together and you will feel at home in no time.
IF YOU WERE GOING TO UNIVERSITY THIS FRESHERS, WHAT 3 THINGS WOULD YOU BE SURE TO PACK?
Face wipes, speakers and alcohol lol.
TOP HANG-OVER TIP FOR STUDENTS?
Downing water, Berocca, aloe vera water, Lucozade, lots of food, sleep it o ! Feel-good movies!!! Feel-good music!!! Family and friends!!!
AND IF PIXIE LOTT WERE TO THROW A HOUSE PARTY, WHAT WOULD BE THE VIBE, AND WHAT 3 SONGS WOULD YOU BE SURE TO PLAY? FANCY DRESS! All the feeeeel gooood, non-judgy vibes and we’d have live music! I have got to say my new single of courseeeee, ‘Somebody’s Daughter’, my all-time favourite song ‘Love Come Down’ and ‘Good Luck, Babe’ by Chappell Roan.
CAN YOU TELL US A FUNNY STORY, MAYBE SOMETHING EMBARRASSING FROM A NIGHT OUT?
Me and my two best friends from school went out in the summer dressed as matching Father Christmases and then I tattooed somebody’s leg with my name.
IT MUST BE AMAZING TO PLAY AND PERFORM MUSIC TO ORIGINAL, AND NEW FANS. WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEND TO YOUR FANS, OLD AND NEW?
Just wow, thank you so much for all of your support from the start. Any comment, like, listen, smile etc honestly means the world and I’m so so grateful for your patience and kindness. To anybody new, thank you so much for listening to my new music, it really means so much to me and almost feels like my rst album!!! I only get to do this because of you.
WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM YOU IN 2024 AND BEYOND?
All about the music!!!!! I’d love my music to help people in some waythat is always the goal! Also, I’d love for it to inspire people to be themselves which is what I learnt on this album.
Feeling tired and sluggish is a common experience for many students, often due to burnout, stress, lack of sleep, or poor diet. However, what you eat plays a signi cant role in your energy levels throughout the day. By incorporating certain foods into your diet, you can combat fatigue and boost your vitality. We’ve compiled a list of foods to help reduce fatigue and enhance your overall wellbeing…
Complex carbohydrates are the body’s primary source of energy, providing a steady and sustained release of glucose into the bloodstream. Foods rich in complex carbs include whole grains like oats, quinoa, brown rice, and whole wheat bread. These foods are digested slowly, preventing spikes and crashes in blood sugar levels, which can lead to fatigue. Incorporating complex carbohydrates into your meals can help maintain energy levels and stave o exhaustion.
Proteins are essential for muscle repair and growth, but they also play a crucial role in maintaining energy levels. Opt for lean protein sources such as chicken, turkey, sh, tofu, beans, and lentils. These foods are rich in amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins necessary for energy production. Including protein in your meals helps stabilise blood sugar levels and promotes a feeling of fullness, preventing energy dips throughout the day.
Fruits and vegetables are nutritional powerhouses packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that combat fatigue and support overall health. Dark leafy greens like spinach and kale are particularly rich in iron, a mineral essential for oxygen transport in the body. Additionally, fruits like bananas, apples, and berries provide a natural source of energy due to their high bre and fructose content. Aim to incorporate a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables into your diet to reap the full spectrum of their bene ts.
Healthy fats are an integral part of a balanced diet and can help combat fatigue by providing a concentrated source of energy. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, walnuts, and axseeds, have been shown to reduce in ammation and improve cognitive function, thereby enhancing overall energy levels. Avocados, olive oil, and nuts are other excellent sources of healthy fats that can keep you feeling energised and satis ed throughout the day.
Dehydration can signi cantly impact your energy levels and contribute to feelings of fatigue and lethargy. It’s essential to stay adequately hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Additionally, consuming hydrating foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and oranges can contribute to your overall uid intake. Limiting ca einated and sugary beverages, which can cause dehydration and energy crashes, is also advisable for sustained energy levels.
Choosing the right snacks can help maintain steady energy levels between meals and prevent fatigue. Opt for nutrient-dense snacks like Greek yoghurt with berries, hummus with carrot sticks, or a handful of nuts and seeds. These snacks provide a combination of protein, bre, and healthy fats to keep you feeling full and energised. Avoid processed snacks high in re ned sugars and unhealthy fats, as they can lead to energy crashes and increased fatigue.
Reducing tiredness and increasing energy levels is achievable through mindful food choices and a balanced diet rich in nutrient-dense foods. By incorporating complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and staying hydrated, you can fuel your body e ectively and combat fatigue.
Whether you’re a college or uni student, personal safety is a top priority. With the busy lifestyle and social environments students navigate, having the ability to defend yourself in potentially dangerous situations is crucial. Self-defence disciplines not only o er physical protection but also build con dence, discipline, and mental resilience. Here’s a guide to the best self-defence disciplines and classes to consider as a student.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on ground ghting and submission holds. It teaches you how to use leverage and technique to defend yourself against larger, stronger opponents.
BJJ is highly e ective for individuals of all sizes, making it ideal for students who may not be physically imposing.
Emphasises controlling an opponent without causing harm, which is bene cial in situations where de-escalation is possible.
The skills learned in BJJ can greatly enhance personal con dence, especially for those who may feel physically vulnerable.
Boxing is one of the oldest and most recognised forms of self-defence. It focuses on punches, footwork, and defensive manoeuvres, providing a solid foundation for striking and evading attacks.
Boxing is straightforward and doesn’t require learning complex moves.
Great for cardiovascular health, strength, and endurance.
Teaches defensive skills like slipping, bobbing, and weaving, which are crucial in avoiding harm.
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art known for its high, fast kicks and jumping, spinning techniques. It combines self-defence with sport, making it a popular choice for those interested in competition as well.
Emphasises agility and speed, which are useful in self-defence.
Strong focus on mental discipline, respect, and self-control.
Taekwondo is an Olympic sport, so students interested in competing have a clear pathway.
Judo is a Japanese martial art that focuses on throws and grappling. It emphasises using an opponent’s force against them, making it an e ective self-defence discipline.
Judo teaches how to defend against larger opponents using leverage rather than brute strength.
Emphasises controlling an attacker without striking, useful in situations where causing injury is not desirable.
Develops both physical coordination and mental discipline.
MMA combines techniques from various martial arts, including boxing, BJJ, Muay Thai, wrestling, and more. It’s a comprehensive system that prepares individuals for a wide range of self-defence scenarios.
MMA provides a broad skill set, combining striking, grappling, and ground ghting.
Students learn to deal with various types of attacks in a controlled environment.
MMA training is highly demanding, improving overall tness and endurance.
Selecting the right self-defence discipline depends on your personal preferences, physical attributes, and speci c needs. For students, it’s important to choose a discipline that not only teaches e ective self-defence techniques but also ts within your lifestyle and schedule. Remember, the best self-defence is awareness and avoidance, but having the skills to protect yourself when necessary is invaluable.
HEY, THANKS FOR YOUR TIME, EMMETT! SO, KIN HAS BEEN LABELLED THE “BEST IRISH SHOW OF ALL TIME”.
Thanks for reaching out. Not sure who labelled it that, but I’ll take it.
HOW DO YOU FEEL TO HAVE PLAYED A HUGE PART IN THE SMASH HIT SHOW?
Honoured. I love acting. I love the job, the art, the journey. I just love it. The fact that I get to do it for a living, the fact that I get to live out my childhood fantasy time and time again is ridiculous. I always said that when I leave this world, whenever that will be, I want to leave behind a boxset of characters or shows that I’m proud of, that my family can be proud of. KIN is one of those shows. Jimmy is one of those characters.
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORIES FROM ON-SET, SHOOTING KIN?
My favourite memories will never be the acting, the scenes. Acting is the place I go to lose myself in, and maybe now that I think about it, the most present I am at any one time. If I do it right, I’ll have no memory of it at all.
When I look back on a show it’s never a speci c scene, a speci c episode or even a speci c project, it’s the time I spent shooting it, the moments in-between takes, the friendships made in between set-ups or the drinks and dinners in between series...
With KIN it might be the pool tournament I had with Coxy, or the dart tournament I had with Keeley, the ocean swims and concerts I had with Clare. The friendship, the kinship I had with Peter our writer, the laughs I had with Gillen. With KIN it could be our producers on AMC and BRON, those teachers who helped navigate us through lockdown... Or maybe it’s having my daughter on set and visiting my family whenever I wanted. When I think of KIN I think of the faces that made it, and the family of cast and crew who sacri ced their gorgeous selves for it… From the runners-up to the execs, that’s where my memories lie and die. I guess.
IT AIRED ON BBC A WHILE AGO AND HAS RECENTLY BEEN ADDED TO NETFLIX! WILL THERE BE A 3RD SERIES, AND ARE YOU KEEN TO JUMP BACK INTO YOUR CHARACTER JIMMY, ASSUMING THE NEW SERIES GOES AHEAD?
I honestly don’t know. What I do know is if we got the green light today I’d be on board in less time than it takes a heart to beat... What I do know is the company that bore us went bankrupt and while there has been a bidding war (I believe), nothing has materialised. Yet.
We have a tried and tested series, a multi-award-winning series, a series that Britain and Ireland both within the industry and out of it, have loved with ferocious fever, but still, the bait remains unbitten.
So, in a nutshell, if it never goes again, and let’s face it there are many a good show that haven’t, I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am for having gotten to be part of its fabric, however brief. And if it does, I’ll be popping champagne. And I’m nothing if not an optimist. So, ngers crossed.
WHEN ACTING IN SUCH DARK AND GRITTY SCENES, CAN YOU SNAP OUT OF CHARACTER STRAIGHT BACK INTO YOURSELF? OR IS THERE TIME NEEDED TO WIND DOWN, AFTER INTENSE PERFORMANCES?
There’s de nitely a period of wind-down time needed. Sometimes I need to ice myself… A tequila. It’s impossible to put your body and indeed your head through a 12-hour day of, in the case of KIN, savage pain and vulnerability without the echoes of that reverberating sometime after the director shouts cut.
I’m getting very good at not bringing that sh*t home, but like I said sometimes the shrapnel of a scene can get caught inside you. Sometimes it can a ect you and manifest in di erent ways. If it’s not the scene itself it’s the inner dialogue of self-doubt at having not nailed it, which of course for me, is more ctitious than the story itself. Don’t think I’ve ever nailed anything. It’s the pursuit that keeps you coming back.
Miscarriage scene was tough. Myself and my wife went through something similar and it was f**kin awful. WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST INTENSE SCENE YOU REMEMBER SHOOTING?
YOU’VE RECENTLY BEEN FILMING FOR A NEW MOVIE, WORKING WITH JASON STATHAM. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THIS PRODUCTION AND WHAT IT IS LIKE WORKING WITH HIM?
Well rst of all it’s a David Ayer movie that just so happens to be starring Jason Statham. Jason is sound as f*ck and a superstar, without a doubt. But David was our maestro. He’s a sublime talent and a dream for any actor to work with. This man will throw you o the cli and teach you how to build your wings on the way down. But you gotta be willing to fall rst. Loved him to bits.
DO YOU HAVE ANY FUTURE EXCLUSIVES YOU CAN SHARE FOR ANY NEW PROJECTS COMING UP?
Assuming I make the cut I’m in the new Guy Richie movie IN THE GREY. F**king fantastic director to watch work. Really enjoyed that experience. And while him and David are staggeringly di erent people, the experience for the actor is the same. There’s a somewhat controlled chaos and unpredictability at all times on set which is a feeding ground to mine out some magic.
A story that sinks its claws into you, a script you can’t put down. AS A NATION OF STORYTELLERS, WHAT KIND OF SCRIPTS JUMP OUT TO YOU THE MOST? WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A SCRIPT?
I’m pretty sure this is still just the dress rehearsal. I’ll let you know when I’ve turned the 1st stone. ARE THERE ANY STONES LEFT UNTURNED IN YOUR CAREER?
MAYBE A CHARACTER YOU WOULD LIKE TO PLAY?
The Joker.
A STYLE OF SHOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO APPEAR IN?
All of them.
ONE OF YOUR HEROES IS SYLVESTER STALLONE.
Not one. He was THE hero growing up.
WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANY 3 PEOPLE, WHO WOULD YOU INVITE AND WHY?
My kids. My 3 kids. Every. F**kin. Time. The answer may not be the bells and whistles you want to read, but it’s de nitely the dinner table I want to feed.
IN TERMS OF HEROES, YOU WILL HAVE PEOPLE LOOKING UP TO YOU. WHAT WORDS OF WISDOM WOULD YOU OFFER SOMEONE WHO SEES YOU AS THEIR ROLE MODEL?
It’s easy to be grateful for the big things. I implore you to be grateful for the little things, the small things, the ordinary things, the things we take for granted. The roof over your head, the food in your belly, the air in your sexy f**kin lungs. Dr. Wayne Dyer once said that every time he sees a penny on the ground he always says, ‘Thank you for the abundance’. Never once does he say, ‘Why only a penny?”. Be grateful. Also, never say anything about yourself that you don’t want to come true. Be kind to yourself. Love yourself. Not in a conceited way but a nurturing way. Love yourself above all else, cause if you don’t you will be of no use to anyone. After all the secret to living is giving, so for f**ks sake be kind to yourself. Take it from someone who wasn’t. Take it from someone who at times still isn’t.
I WANTED TO END THE INTERVIEW BY TALKING ABOUT FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS! AS A MAN UNITED FAN, WHAT ARE YOUR PREDICTIONS FOR NEXT SEASON – WHO WINS THE LEAGUE AND WAS IT THE RIGHT DECISION TO KEEP TEN HAG?
Absolutely it was the right decision to keep Ten Hag. Even if come the end of the season it doesn’t work out, giving him the chance, the time, will have always been the right choice... Give him time. Who will win? City probably.

HEY, $WERVE! GREAT TO CHAT. YOU’VE GAINED AN INCREDIBLE FOLLOWING, INCLUDING ALMOST 4M MONTHLY SPOTIFY LISTENERS! WOW, CONGRATULATIONS. HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT YOUR MAJOR SUCCESS?
Thanks! I’m feeling great about my success, especially since I’ve always dreamed of a career in music. Let’s hope I can see more results in the future!
PHONK IS THE LATEST MUSIC GENRE TO TAKE OVER TIKTOK AND SPOTIFY. DESCRIBE THE GENRE AND MUSIC THAT YOU ARE MAKING…
Versatile. Phonk ranges from the common aggressive bassy beats and catchy melodies to chill lo /trap type beats with jazz samples - and many more. As a producer, it’s easy to be exible with the di erent styles you make, because there will always be a listener waiting for a new track in the speci c style you’re making.
THERE ARE MANY INFLUENCES I CAN HEAR COMING THROUGH IN THE GENRE AND YOUR MUSIC, FROM ELECTRONIC LATINO HOOKS TO BANGING BASS AND CULTURAL RAPS. WHAT ARE THE KEY INFLUENCES FOR YOU WHEN MAKING NEW TRACKS?
I aim to make danceable, catchy music that can be listened to by a variety of di erent audiences and cultures. That’s all really.
WHAT’S YOUR SETUP LIKE, WHAT DAW DO YOU USE, AND WHAT’S YOUR PRODUCTION PROCESS?
Right now my setup consists of two screens, a microphone, and a MIDI keyboard. I don’t actually have speakers yet since I’ve recently got my room renovated but I have been looking into it. I use FL Studio to make my beats, and I usually try to lay down a melody rst before adding drums and everything else. Also, we can’t forget to add my secret sauce to the master mix!
THE PHONK PLAYLIST IS ALSO THE FASTEST-GROWING PLAYLIST ON SPOTIFY, WITH 8.5M LIKES MAKING IT THE BEST-PERFORMING OFFICIAL DANCE PLAYLIST ON THE PLATFORM. THAT’S UNREAL. HOW DO YOU FEEL AS A PIONEERING ARTIST INVOLVED IN THE CREATION OF THIS NEW MUSIC, AND WHERE DO YOU SEE ITS FUTURE AS A GENRE?
I feel proud to be a pioneer of the genre that I started making during the second lockdown while I was in year 8. But honestly, with the way it’s gone within the past couple of years, I have absolutely no idea where this genre will be in the next few years. It’s constantly changing with di erent trends and styles and it’s really hard to predict what’s next. I just hope the genre grows more and more popular and to see many new talents arise.
IT’S NOT JUST PRODUCTION YOU’RE INVOLVED WITH, IS IT? YOU’VE TEAMED UP WITH OTHER STALWARTS OF THE SCENE: KORDHELL, SLOWBOY AND RAIZHELL TO PLAY THE UK’S FIRST-EVER LIVE PHONK EVENT. HOW DID IT GO?
It went very well, and I was honoured to be the rst DJ to play a phonk show in my home country. Every artist involved did a great job and we put on the best show ever. Some of my friends came who don’t even listen to phonk said it was great for a club-type environment!
BEING JUST 16, YOU HAVE ALREADY ACHIEVED SO MUCH AND JUST LEFT SCHOOL? WHAT IS YOUR FOCUS NEXT IN TERMS OF EDUCATION VS. CAREER?
Well, since I must be in education until 18, I have just joined a media specialised college which funded by companies like Sky and it’s great there. I’m studying a media business course that involves stu like digital marketing which is great for the sort of stu I do on TikTok. Plus, I don’t have to sit any exams ever again because it’s all coursework, so I’m already loving it.
The track that means the most to me is probably one of my earlier onesCITY LIGHT$. While I was making it, the project crashed and all of it was lost. It was getting late, and I thought ‘I can’t be bothered to remake this’, but my gut told me it was a good track and it was worth remaking so I did it. I then nished it and sent it in to my favourite phonk YouTube channel, which agreed to upload it. It started pulling insane algorithms on there, and I woke up to a TikTok promoting the song with 350k likes. This is the song most OGs remember me for, and it was my rst-ever release on Spotify. WHICH OF YOUR TRACKS MEANS THE MOST TO YOU, AND WHY?
TOP 3 PHONK TRACKS RIGHT NOW?
DVRST - Ooh Nuttin
DVRST- Dream Space (I’ve liked DVRST a lot recently) Kordhell - VYSE (the drop at 1:20 especially) No particular order.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR ARTIST NAME, AND WHAT’S NEXT FOR $WERVE?
Since the area of phonk I started in was named drift phonk, I tried to base my name around cars and drift racing. Because ‘swerve’ is sort of similar to the word ‘drift’, I chose that because it was simple and easy to remember. I also listened to $not and $atori Zoom at the time and I liked what they did with the ‘$’ instead of ‘S’ so I decided to steal their idea, haha. What’s next for me is a variety of new releases in a variety of di erent styles, hoping to blow the internet away once again. As simple as that!

In the world of university life, success isn’t just about making huge leaps. It’s also about making lots of little improvements that add up over time. This idea, called the theory of marginal gains, has helped lots of people do better – from top athletes to successful business leaders. But it’s not just for them –it can also help students at universities in the UK.
Marginal gains mean making small, gradual improvements in di erent parts of your life or work. Instead of trying to achieve big changes all at once, you focus on getting a little bit better in lots of little ways. This idea got popular in cycling, especially with Team Sky, who looked at every tiny detail to help cyclists perform better.
For university students, using marginal gains can really change how well you do in your studies. Instead of only worrying about big goals, you try to get a little better every day. Here’s how you can do it...
Instead of cramming all your studying into one big session, try to study a bit every day. Spend a short time going over your notes, reading extra stu , or doing some active learning. It might not seem like much, but it adds up over time and helps you remember things better.
When you get feedback from your teachers or classmates, use it to make your work better. Look at what they say and try to make small changes to improve. Doing this regularly makes your work better and better over time.
Use techniques to help you manage your time better. Try things like the Pomodoro Technique, where you study for short bursts with breaks in between. This helps you stay focused and get more done in less time.
Instead of trying to learn everything at once, take your time to learn new skills bit by bit. Spend a little time each day on something new, like learning a language or improving your coding skills. It might not seem like much, but you’ll get better over time.
Make the most of the resources available to you at university. Use the library, online databases, and support services to help you with your studies. Trying out just one new resource each week can help you learn more and do better in your classes.
Marginal gains aren’t just for studying – they can also help you manage your money better. Here’s how...
Keep track of your spending and try to stick to a budget. Look for small ways to save money, like bringing lunch from home instead of buying it.
Set up automatic transfers to your savings account, even if it’s just a small amount each week. Over time, it adds up and helps you reach your nancial goals.
Think carefully about where your money goes and try to avoid unnecessary expenses. Being mindful of your spending helps you save money for things that really matter.
Consider taking on part-time work or nding other ways to make extra money. Even a small side hustle can help you cover expenses and save for the future.
Take the time to learn about managing money wisely. Read books or articles, listen to podcasts, and ask for advice. Knowing more about nances helps you make better decisions and build a secure nancial future.
Success at university and beyond isn’t just about big achievements –it’s also about making lots of small improvements. By using the idea of marginal gains, you can do better in your studies and manage money more e ectively. So, instead of aiming for big changes all at once, focus on getting a little better every day. It might not seem like much, but over time, those small steps can lead to big wins.

Now we’ve established these facts, did you consider this when buying your mattress? Probably not, or maybe you didn’t buy the mattress if you are a student living in furnished accommodation. All mattresses di er, and their material composition, foam depth, cover fabric, structure and thickness all a ect how the mattress will retain heat. When did you last have a co ee? Did you know it typically takes 5-6 hours for the body to eliminate half of the ca eine consumed? This means that if you consume a cup of co ee containing 100 mg of ca eine, you’ll still have around 50 mg of ca eine in your system after 5-6 hours. If you typically go to bed around 11 PM, drinking co ee after 5 PM or 6 PM may start to interfere with your ability to fall asleep.
If you have trouble sleeping at night, avoid long or late afternoon naps, as they can interfere with your ability to fall asleep at bedtime. If you need to nap, keep it short (20-30 minutes) and earlier in the day.
Large meals and alcohol close to bedtime can disrupt sleep by causing discomfort, indigestion, or disturbances in sleep cycles. Opt for lighter, easily digestible meals in the evening, and limit alcohol consumption.
Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. Consistency helps regulate your body’s internal clock and improves sleep quality.
