The weather app tells you it’s sunny outside, but you tilt your head, and your eyes see what the phone does not, grey clouds! Will it rain? Who knows. But with festival season upon us and unpredictable weather conditions, we must be prepared for all seasons! To get the best out of your festival experience we’ve compiled our top tips to keep you safe, so you can enjoy the music without getting caught out by any mishaps!

Consider wearing wellies, but whatever you do, leave your new trainers at home! Festivals are NOT the time to show o your fresh creps. Be prepared to get them ruined, and ideally wear suitable footwear that will keep your feet dry in case it downpours, if that happens it will get VERY muddy! Take a few pairs of socks just in case you get drenched!

The last thing you’re going to be thinking of when you’re raving is getting sunburnt. But the next day when you’re potentially hanging and laying around your tent area, you might get caught out by the sun. So, we recommend taking a hat/shades to get some protection from the sun, and some sun cream lotion in case you need it and are alive enough to apply it.

TAKE. WET. WIPES! Some festivals have showers, some don’t. Those that do often have LONG queues! So, have a backup plan and take wet wipes to give you some level of cleanliness for the 3-day bender you’re about to embark on. And guys, and girls, if you are considering hooking up at a festival take a condom! The last thing you want after a drunken night is to wake up not only with a headache but an STD. You and your mates will no doubt be hyped to pitch up camp and go raving, just make sure you set your tent up properly!

Bonus tip: Use something to identify it such as a ag, so you’re not spending hours trying to nd your grey tent, amongst a thousand other grey tents with one blurry eye. Know where you are sleeping and select a meeting point in case you and your mates get lost.

Take enough cash for festival food as it can be expensive and is your potential saviour to help cure your inevitable hangover. Berocca is also your best friend!

Don’t travel hundreds of miles only to be rejected after queuing hours to get in, because you don’t have ID. Just don’t be that person. Take your ID, keep it safe, and get in safe.

Festivals and drinks go hand-in-hand. If you, like most, will be drinking alcohol try to pace yourself. If you or your friends get wasted, look out for the medical tents onsite to assist.

If you go to a music festival prepared, you’ll have an amazing time without any worries about your safety. Get in safely, come home safely and have the best time of your life!

HEY PRINZ, THANKS FOR YOUR TIME! HOW IS THE GAME OF LIFE TREATING YOU AT THE MOMENT?

Really well, it’s been an interesting journey for me so far, pretty cool. I started gaming and thought that was my future but didn’t get big at it, unfortunately! When I started doing music it wasn’t too long before things started to bubble up.

WHAT WAS YOUR LIFE LIKE GROWING UP?

I come from a household with just females as siblings. The only males in the house are myself and Dad. Overall, everything is blessed and I’m happy to have my family supporting my every move no matter how crazy the ventures were! The only thing I had to do to keep everyone happy while still chasing my dreams is staying in education which I still am, up until today.

YOUR SINGLE ‘LIFE STORY’ HITS HARD. A TRULY INSPIRATIONAL, CATCHY, MELODIC EAR-PLEASING POP-RAP SONG. DID YOU KNOW WITHIN YOURSELF WHEN YOU CREATED THIS SONG THAT IT WAS DESTINED FOR SUCCESS?

Music is weird with the social media world being the judge but as musicians, all we can do is try to make the best music to our ability and have our ngers crossed.

A LYRIC FROM THE SONG SAYS, “YOU CAN’T PRAY FOR A CHANGE IF YOU KEEP ON SINNING, TOO MANY TIMES I WANTED TO QUIT BUT I GOT BACK UP AND I KEPT ON WORKING”. LOOKING BACK, HOW CLOSE WERE YOU TO QUITTING, AND WHAT KEPT YOU FOCUSED ON NOT GIVING UP?

The thing that’s always kept me focused from the beginning of my career to now is tunnel vision. I believe if everything goes well the future will be completely di erent for me and all the people around.

HOW DID YOU FEEL/CELEBRATE WHEN YOU LANDED THE SONY RECORD DEAL?

Oh boy! I was over the moon because nally I can call myself a professional recording artist. Well, that’s what it says in the contract ha-ha. It’s super exciting and the team over at Sony have had my back and bring great opportunities to the table.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY
JOE MAGOWAN

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE VISIONS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?

My aim is to be a household name in my own way like you see how with Ed Sheeran, there’s not anyone like him. I want supporters to have the same views about me.

WHAT’S YOUR STRATEGY FOR SUCCESS?

Try and if it doesn’t work keep trying until there’s no more to do. Once that time comes move on to something else and carry on the same method.

CAREER HIGHLIGHT SO FAR?

I would say going on Blue Peter Live on television! The producers were saying the kids on the cast have never been so excited to have someone on (and Stormzy has been on!). It was a great experience, and hopefully, I can do more TV work in the future.

GETTING THE RECOGNITION FROM THE LIKES OF SONY WITH THE DEAL, HITTING THE CHARTS, AND YOUR NUMBERS SPEAKING FOR THEMSELVES, HOW ARE YOU TAKING IT ALL IN? I MEAN, IT’S HAPPENING FAST! IS IT STILL A SHOCK, AND NEW, ARE YOU USED TO IT? HOW DO YOU FEEL WITHIN YOURSELF ABOUT THE POSITION YOU ARE IN AND THE RECOGNITION AND PRAISE YOU ARE GETTING?

Just gotta stay cool about everything because if you overreact and get too ahead of yourself the whole thing could take a turn for the worse. I just try to maintain my hype by constantly being online, if I’m not uploading something, might catch me speaking on live across social platforms.

WHAT IS YOUR MUSIC WRITING PROCESS?

I have a set up at my house which I use the most and develop my skills because it is all in my own time, but I have been going into sessions with producers because that is the best way to learn. Especially since these guys have mostly been in the industry for years upon years.

TO TIME-STAMP THIS INTERVIEW, WHAT 3 THINGS DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE IN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS?

Want to be able to release a debut project, have a pop collaboration and become bigger on all platforms by a 25% increase.

WHAT ARE THE 3 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN YOUR LIFE?

Family, friends and keeping my mental health at peace.

WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEND TO YOUR FANS?

That I’m here for a conversation! If you see me in person, always feel free to say hi, I like talking to anyone, I’m pretty friendly.

The world of video games has undergone a fascinating evolution since the inception of the gaming industry. From pixelated pioneers like “Pong” and “Space Invaders” to the breathtakingly realistic landscapes of contemporary masterpieces, console gaming has become a global phenomenon, captivating audiences of all ages. One intriguing aspect of this evolution is the ever-growing list of top-selling console games that have not only entertained millions but have also left an indelible mark on the gaming landscape.

No list of top-selling console games is complete without mentioning the iconic “Super Mario Bros.” Released on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1985, this platformer introduced players to the adventures of Mario and Luigi. With over 40 million copies sold, its impact on the gaming industry and pop culture is immeasurable.

“Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” is the epitome of arcade-style racing fun. Released on the Nintendo Switch, it builds upon the success of its predecessors, o ering a wide array of characters, tracks, and vehicles. “Red Dead Redemption 2” takes players on an immersive journey through the American Wild West. “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” (PUBG) played a pivotal role in popularising the battle royale genre. Initially released as an early access title on PC, its subsequent availability on consoles, including PlayStation and Xbox, further expanded its player base. “Super Mario Odyssey” showcases Nintendo’s continued commitment to innovation and creativity. Released on the Nintendo Switch, the game introduces a new mechanic where Mario can possess objects and characters with his sentient hat, Cappy. HEY CUPPY, THANKS FOR YOUR TIME TODAY! LET’S SET THE SCENE... WHERE ARE YOU NOW AND WHAT CAN YOU SEE?

The scene is the Pink Penthouse in Central London. I see the beautiful river Thames with the sunsetting creating a pink illusion. I also see a tangled set of wires with my DJ decks on top from last night’s jam session. Most importantly there are two cute Pomeranians scratching at my feet.

YOU WERE BORN IN NIGERIA AND MOVED TO LONDON AT AGE 13. DO YOU HAVE FOND MEMORIES FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD IN NIGERIA?

I was born in Lagos, Nigeria at 4pm on a dusty Thursday afternoon. My mother said her hospital room was covered in owers; I was truly an African princess. Growing up in Lagos was such a wonderful experience; Lagos was and is still one of the most exciting cities in the world full of colour, vibrancy, energy, and an intangible movement! I grew up listening to Fela Kuti and I still do, my favourite song is ‘Yellow Fever’ and I have memories of being in Lagos tra c listening to music with my Dad. Going back to Lagos - change has happened but I’m proud of the new generation integrating themselves into the world and putting my city on the map.

SINCE YOU MOVED TO LONDON, IT SEEMS YOU’VE BEEN ON A NON-STOP ADVENTURE! BEFORE WE TALK ABOUT MUSIC AND STARDOM, CAN YOU TALK TO US ABOUT YOUR EDUCATION…

Since moving to London, I’ve been able to build an exciting career but weaved in between an exciting academic experience. From 18 ‘till now I have been able to attain 3 higher education degrees from Kings College, New York University and most recently Oxford University. Kings College will always hold a special place in my heart because it was my rst and longest degree a BSc.

AFTER GRADUATING FROM KING’S COLLEGE, YOU WERE SELECTED AS A DJ AT THE MTV AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS. YOU ALSO PERFORMED AT MANY EVENTS AROUND THE GLOBE. WHEN WAS IT THAT YOUR REPUTATION STARTED TO TAKE OFF, AND WHAT WAS THE PIVOTAL MOMENT?

After graduating from King’s people think, but it was actually during my nal year at King’s that I was selected to host and DJ at the MTV Music Africa Awards. I have to say it was a pivotal moment because as a 21-year-old being on a world stage and having the opportunity to grow my con dence and display my talent was important, it’s almost like my teenage years of practising and imagining lived up to the moment. The MTV Africa Awards were so important for me. When I look back, I realise how I let my nerves get the better of me but more interestingly I wasn’t as present as I should have been. I have now learnt since then as I’ve matured, to use nerves to create incentive but also to stay present in the moment, when people ask me how that night was, I can barely remember because of how overwhelmed I was.

AFTER THIS, AND MORE RECENTLY YOU COMPLETED A MASTER’S IN AFRICAN STUDIES AT OXFORD UNIVERSITY! BY THIS STAGE, YOU MUST HAVE ALREADY BEEN A HUGE SUCCESS IN YOUR MUSIC AND CREATIVE PROJECTS. WHAT WAS IT LIKE STUDYING AT UNIVERSITY AS A CELEB?

My Oxford University experience is very di erent; I think rst of all going back to university at the age of 30 comes with its challenges, and also considering the fact that I had a full-time BBC Radio breakfast show on weekends also came with its demands, but luckily at university because it was a Master’s, the class was small and I was able to make some lifelong friends, but it was very funny hearing the lecturers call me Cuppy. My highlight of integrating my career with my academia was doing a presentation in class through music rather than paper or literature.

DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE AS A CREATIVE PERSON, AND WHERE YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM...

My style is literally Cuppy. Nigerian culture is embedded in the Cuppy brand - my fearlessness, ambition, and stubbornness are all characteristics I’ve picked up in my environment. We Nigerians can’t take no for an answer, and we certainly would never shrink our dreams!

DESCRIBE A WORLD WHERE THERE IS NO COLOUR PINK...

A world without pink is a world without innocence, empathy and fun.

HOW DOES CUPPY THROW A PARTY?

A Cuppy party comprises of the absolute minimum... requirements of the following balloons, cupcakes, good music, good food and a theme. Come to think of it I haven’t thrown a party in a while, thanks for reminding me Student Pocket Guide.

MUSICALLY, YOU HAVE COLLABORATED WITH SOME OF THE BIGGEST NAMES IN THE REGGAE AND DANCEHALL GENRE, AND BEYOND! FROM JULIAN MARLEY (BOB MARLEY’S SON), WYCLEF JEAN AND REMA TO NAME JUST A FEW! ARE THERE ANY STANDOUT COLLABS YOU HAVE PARTICULARLY ENJOYED, AND WHY?

I am so proud of the collaborations I’ve been able to achieve through personal relationships and just through shooting my shot, I have to say Wyclef, Grammy Winner, Fugees Founder is an amazing collaboration I always hold close to my heart because it just happened through an Instagram DM, in life if you don’t ask you don’t get.

WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK WITH THAT YOU HAVEN’T YET?

For music collaborations, there are quite a number of people who are doing amazing work with music, transcending borders and pushing Afrobeats, I’d love to work with a number of them. I want to do a joint album with Tekno (Billie Elish’s fave artist), tell him for me... I’m really looking out for a collaboration with Nicki Minaj! I’m sure within the 5 year span, there would be a Cuppy x Nicki track.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR?

A lot of people ask me what my greatest achievement is and what show I’m most proud of, I was able to DJ for my Presidential Inauguration in Nigeria and it was a very proud moment for me because there’s doing what you love to do but then there’s doing what you love to do for your country. Especially as a female DJ I think it symbolised the openness and social transition of our country.

CAN YOU TALK TO US ABOUT THE CUPPY OXFORD FUND?

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO LAUNCH THIS, AND WHAT DO YOU AIM TO ACHIEVE THROUGH IT?

The Cuppy Oxford Fund is a very important part of my life, I tell people that the fund I’ve set up with Oxford University over the next 10 years is more important than the degree I obtained from the university itself. I aim to help people not necessarily only enter Oxford University but stay there. A lot of my experience in the university and a lot of my hard days were comforted by my friends, my community, and the recourses I had, and so the fund is not focusing on academia but padding and cushioning, helping people pay for rent or y back home or buy a winter coat, these things also matter. I’m hoping that the fund will allow particularly Africans and others from my continent to feel more at home in the hallowed Oxford halls.

HAVING WORKED WITH SOME OF THE BIGGEST NAMES ON THE PLANET, HAVING ACCESS TO SO MUCH MONEY, AND LIVING IN A LONDON PENTHOUSE LIFE MUST BE, LET’S SAY, DIFFERENT FOR YOU. HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO KEEP GROUNDED WITH SO MUCH SUCCESS?

I’ve gone through a journey through my life that has led me to realise the importance of contentment. Look there will always be someone with more than what we have but the one thing we can control is our own happiness and inner peace, and now at 31 that is my main priority. I have also been able to commit to my faith as a Christian which has also helped me a lot recently... and yes before you ask, I do have a pink Bible.

TO GIVE THIS INTERVIEW A TIMESTAMP, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE IN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS?

In the next 12 months, I owe my fans new music, it’s coming up to four years since my debut album Original Cuppy and I feel obliged to serve a new creative experience and show new parts of me so wait for it #ToCuppyThisTune

Starting a business while pursuing a university degree might seem like a daunting task, but it’s an endeavour that can o er immense rewards. The university environment provides a unique blend of resources, networking opportunities, and personal growth that can greatly support entrepreneurial ventures.

If you’re a student with a passion for entrepreneurship, here are some top tips to help you successfully start and manage a business while at university.

The foundation of any successful business is a strong and viable idea. Start by identifying a niche or problem that you’re passionate about solving. Your business idea should address a real need in the market and ideally align with your skills, interests, and expertise.

Universities o er a wealth of resources that can be incredibly bene cial for aspiring entrepreneurs. Take advantage of workshops, incubator programmes, business plan competitions, and networking events. These resources can provide you with valuable knowledge, mentorship, and even potential funding for your business.

Balancing academics and a start-up can be challenging, but e ective time management is essential. Create a realistic schedule that allocates time for classes, studying, and working on your business. Prioritise tasks, set clear goals, and avoid over-committing to either your studies or your business.

If your business idea requires a team, choose your partners wisely. Look for individuals with complementary skills who share your passion and dedication. A diverse team can bring a range of perspectives and expertise, enhancing your business’s overall potential for success.

Rather than diving head rst into a complex business model, consider starting with a minimum viable product (MVP). This approach allows you to test your idea in the market with minimal resources. Use feedback from potential customers to re ne and improve your o ering.

Your university is a hub of diverse talents and connections. Attend networking events, join relevant clubs and organisations, and connect with professors and peers who share your interests. Networking can lead to partnerships, mentorship opportunities, and even early customers for your business.

Don’t underestimate the knowledge and experience your professors can o er. Many educators have industry experience and can provide valuable insights, advice, and even introductions to potential investors or partners.

Failure is a natural part of entrepreneurship. Instead of being discouraged by setbacks, use them as opportunities for growth and learning. Analyse what went wrong, adjust your strategy, and keep moving forward.

In today’s digital age, having a strong online presence is crucial for any business. Create a professional website, utilise social media platforms, and engage with your audience. An e ective online strategy can help you reach a wider audience and build brand credibility.

Budgeting and nancial management are vital aspects of running a business. Keep track of your expenses, create a nancial plan, and explore cost-e ective ways to market your business. Utilise free or low-cost marketing strategies, such as social media and content marketing, to maximise your impact without breaking the bank.

How did the first idea come about to start filming yourself getting stung and bitten by insects and animals?

There was a solid, a very solid four, almost ve years of development before Brave Wilderness ever became something that people knew publicly. And the whole bite and sting phenomenon didn’t start happening until early 2016. We had lmed some stu in 2015 that we didn’t know if we were ever gonna release or not because honestly, we didn’t feel the production quality or the idea had been executed exceptionally well. That was an episode where I was intentionally quilled by a porcupine and then also intentionally stung by something called harvester ants in Arizona. Long story short, we ended up releasing that content. It did exceptionally well. And then boom, we took o on this whole, you know, cataclysmic, volcano eruption rise of climbing up Justin Schmidt’s insect sting pain index.

In terms of the bites and the stings, what’s been the most painful sting zone or bite that you’ve experienced?

The most painful single sting has been something called an executioner wasp. The most painful intentional bite has been something called a giant desert centipede. But the most painful experience that I have been through, and this is so dumb, and I love admitting publicly that this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever done… Sticking my arm into a box with 200 yellow jackets, where I then was stung 100 times in about 10 seconds. And that is far and away the most painful ordeal I have ever dealt with.

If you could be a flying insect with a sting, who would you target?

I like that question. This is one of the most original questions I’ve gotten. Now, I could approach this from a number of di erent perspectives. And I’m going to go the sports route because I’m a very big NBA basketball fan. Now, the tarantula hawk is a spider wasp species that stings its target. So female tarantula hawks will sting a tarantula, essentially send them into paralysis, drag them into a burrow, and lay an egg on them. That egg will hatch. The pupa will go into that spider while it is still alive and eat it from the inside out. Horri c story, right? Just setting us up with what the tarantula hawk can do. Now, if I had the power of a tarantula hawk sting, I would sting LeBron James, not because I would want to lay an egg on him, but I would want to slow him down just enough to play him in a game of one-on-one basketball in the hope that I may be able to score a single basket on him. So, if a tarantula hawk can completely paralyse a tarantula, I think my venomous sting would only slow LeBron down enough for me to score a single bucket.

If you could create a super insect, a combination of any of the other insects, what would it be like?

Oh, man. I’m gonna combine insects and arachnids together, it’s like that whole category of creepy crawlies. One of the insects, that has been most terrifying to me has been the giant water bug, also known as a toe-biter. This was something that I was bitten by as a kid mucking around in the swamps looking for snapping turtles. And it is just an excruciating pain. They have this thing called a rostrum that is kind of like a needle that shoots out the front of their face, injects digestive enzymes into their prey and essentially melts their inside so that they can drink it up like a milkshake or a slushie. So that creature’s ability and its grappling arms, its rostrum, I would combine with a praying mantis. So now you’ve got this ability to have two sets of grappling arms, that rostrum, the alien-like look. And last but not least, the stinger and tail of a scorpion. So now you’ve got a digestive enzyme potency on the front end, a venom on the back end and the ability to not only stab something with two points but to grapple it with arms that are like, you know, grappling hooks and you’re going to be unstoppable. And then add a bunch of size to it, multiply it by like a hundred and you’ve got like an alien-type creature that you would never want to mess with.

I know, right, somebody’s going to hear this and be like, huh, water bug meets praying mantis meets scorpion. Yep, that sounds like the next alien invasion movie. There’s a movie idea right there...

Do you think that aliens exist?

Oh, I am beyond fascinated with the idea of aliens. And I don’t want that to come across like I’m this conspiracy theory believest or something like that. That’s not the case, but I love alien movies. I’ve been fascinated with aliens since I was a kid. I love the idea of the what if, right? Do I believe aliens could exist? Absolutely. Would I love to have an experience of my own? Unquestionably! If somebody were to come down from another solar system somewhere and be like, do we have any volunteers? I’d raise my hand and be like, can I bring my camera crew? Because I’m telling you, we’ll make the greatest episode ever. Put me on the ship, let’s do some experiments. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, only push it so far. If I can document it, count me in. I’d gladly get abducted by aliens, get put back down here and would love to tell the story.

What is the craziest thing that you’ve ever done?

One speci c thing that comes to mind was we were lming a series for Animal Planet called Brave the Wild. We did 18 episodes for them for this series. And one of the episodes was an episode that we never intended to make happen. It was about jaguars in Brazil. We found ourselves in the right place in time when we happened to be able to lm a mother jaguar and her cubs. Without knowing that the jaguar was in the area, we had gotten o the boat that we were on and went deep into this underbrush and found ourselves on our hands and knees, crawling like jaguars through these weird tunnels that have been carved out by animal movement, deep in this underbrush. We found this little opening and went in and we’re like, holy cow, it’s like a maze of pathways, clearly being used by jaguars. Well, let’s go in here and set up a camera trap. So, we’re literally crawling on hands and knees in what is essentially a jaguar superhighway and the birds around us start signaling that there is a cat in the area. Unbeknownst to us, we got o this boat, went through this gateway and went left - to the right is exactly where the jaguars were sleeping. So, these cats watched us enter, go to the left set up a camera trap and then come back and get our boat and leave. And how do we know those jaguars were there? Because as we were backing up, the female took her cubs and swam across the river and we caught all this on camera. So, it’s like, oh my gosh, like, there you are, literally in a jaguar den with those animals - that just goes to show you how even predators don’t want to interact with a human.

Have you got any tips you can share for content creators and YouTubers?

Yeah, absolutely. Just starting and having the con dence in yourself to begin is always going to be the rst step. It’s just like anything… practice is just going to make you better. You’re never gonna reach perfection. This is something that I struggle with as an artist and an A-type personality - I always want to get better. But you have to be able to look at your work and say this is as good as what I was able to do with the resources I had. That’s awesome. That’s practice. What’s the next rep? How do I get to the next level? How do I stay committed to my vision of pushing this forward? So, for any digital creator to break that down more simply you got to start. You have to stay committed and you have to keep going through those repetitions and that consistency then becomes volume. Volume becomes a catalogue that an audience can adhere to and then it becomes an expectation. Those expectations from the audience that something new is coming are what’s gonna help your brand, your channel, your vision grow and grow. If you stick with that consistency, you’re gonna build that following and that’s exactly how we did it with Brave Wilderness.

Life is a balancing act - between attending classes, completing assignments, holding down a part-time job, and maintaining a healthy social life, it can feel like you’re being pulled in too many directions.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the only way to excel academically is to spend all your time absorbed in books and preparing for exams. However, this approach can be counterproductive, leading to stress, fatigue, and burnout. Similarly, if you focus solely on your social life, you may nd that your grades su er as a result.

Here are some practical and simple tips for maintaining your college, work, and social life:

Time management is a vital skill that can help you maintain a balance between academics and social life. To manage your time e ectively, create a written schedule that includes all activities of your everyday life. Decide which activities you want to prioritise, such as studying or socialising with friends, and assign speci c times and dates for each activity. Here are some practical tips to assist you in managing your time e ectively:

Create a weekly schedule that includes all your activities, such as classes, study time, job plans (if any) and social events.

Write down all the tasks you must complete and prioritise them depending on their urgency.

If you have a big project to complete, break it down into tiny, more manageable tasks so you don’t feel overwhelmed.

Establish clear project deadlines to help you stay on track and focused.

Being a student, it’s easy to get caught up in the trap of perfectionism. The fear of failure may drive you to try to complete your tasks perfectly. you’ll end up being stressed about not only completing that task but also lagging in your social life.

Perfectionism is often fuelled by the need for external validation and the fear of failure. Striving for perfection is an unrealistic and unhealthy goal that can lead to negative consequences such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and relationship problems.

Taking care of your health is crucial when balancing academic success and ful lling social life. Here are some tips for maintaining your physical and mental well-being:

Getting enough sleep is crucial for your physical and mental health. Insu cient sleep can negatively a ect your ability to concentrate, stay alert and even lead to depression and anxiety. Try to sleep 7 to 9 hours each night to perform optimally for the upcoming day.

Maintaining a healthy eating habit is essential for your body to function properly. Try to eat a balanced diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and healthy fats. Avoid skipping meals, especially breakfast, as it provides the energy to start your day.

Regular exercise is not only great for your physical health but also your mental health. Exercise has been proven to help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

Maintaining proper hydration throughout the day is crucial for maintaining good health. When you become dehydrated, you may experience symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, and di culty focusing. To prevent these negative e ects, keeping a water bottle with you while in college is important, ensuring that you stay adequately hydrated.

As the warm embrace of summer approaches, students can make the most of their break by immersing themselves in the world of gardening. Cultivating a garden not only o ers a hands-on learning experience but also provides a therapeutic escape from the hustle and bustle of academic life.

In this article, we will explore a plethora of summer garden hacks and project ideas that students can embark on to transform their outdoor spaces into vibrant, thriving havens.

For students living in apartments or with limited outdoor space, container gardening is an ideal solution. Utilise various containers, such as buckets, pots, or even recycled materials like old tires or wooden crates. Herbs, small vegetables, and owers can thrive in containers, providing students with a compact yet productive garden.

Maximise space by going vertical. Vertical gardening is an innovative technique that involves growing plants upwards, using walls or structures. This not only saves space but also adds an aesthetic touch to the garden. Consider vertical planters, hanging pots, or trellises for climbing plants like beans or tomatoes.

Composting not only reduces waste but also enriches the soil with essential nutrients. Set up a compost bin with kitchen scraps, garden waste, and shredded paper. Over the summer, you’ll witness the transformation of waste into nutrient-rich compost for the garden.

Create a haven for butter ies, bees, and other pollinators by dedicating a section of the garden to pollinator-friendly plants. Marigolds, lavender, and sun owers are excellent choices. This not only helps the environment but also adds a burst of colour and life to the garden.

Ensure that the garden thrives, even during the scorching summer days, by setting up a DIY watering system. Use drip irrigation or repurpose plastic bottles as self-watering containers. This not only saves time but also ensures that plants receive consistent moisture.

Upcycled materials like old tires, broken pots, or discarded items can be transformed into unique garden art. Consider creating sculptures, mosaics, or even a colourful pallet fence to add a personalised touch.

Start a small herb garden lled with aromatic basil, mint, rosemary, and more. Not only will this add avour to home-cooked meals, but it also provides a practical lesson in gardening and sustainability. Herb gardens are easy to maintain and perfect for beginners.

Integrate science into gardening by setting up a weather monitoring station. Students can track temperature, humidity, and rainfall, providing valuable data for understanding the local climate’s impact on plant growth. This project fosters an appreciation for the interconnectedness of nature and science.

Old boots, tin cans, or even broken wheelbarrows can be repurposed into unique containers for plants. This not only reduces waste but also adds a touch of whimsy to the garden.

Documenting observations, successes, and challenges provides an excellent opportunity for re ection and learning. Journaling helps develop organisational skills and allows students to track the growth and development of their garden over time.

Embarking on a summer garden project is a rewarding endeavour that combines education, creativity, and the joys of nature. Whether it’s a small balcony adorned with potted plants, or a back garden transformed into a ourishing oasis, these summer garden hacks and project ideas o er students the chance to connect with the natural world, develop new skills, and create lasting memories during their break. So, grab a shovel, don some gardening gloves, and let the summer garden adventures begin!

As well as cleaning your air, plants help lift your spirits, can aid in getting a better nights sleep, and are even proven to boost productivity! Plus, they’re a great way to add a splash of natural colour to the otherwise drab decor of your student accommodation.

But with long nights studying, partying and living university life, plant-care can be tricky to t into your everyday life. The great news is there are loads of plants that thrive with next to zero TLC!  Here are a few of our recommendations:

The most popular members on this list are the succulent family. Scienti c studies have proven that these cute potted plants have many bene ts, such as enhancing memory and improving focus! And, having evolved to survive in a desert, they’re sure to be able to handle student life.

A key ingredient in most skincare, this plant has become a household name. But did you know that there’s much more to aloe vera than the plants cooling properties? Humans have long seen aloe vera plants as bringers of good luck and positive energy to those nearby!

Unlike some plants, bamboo can survive in just water, making it mess-free and easy to care for. On top of this, it can tolerate both light shade and indirect sunlight. Plus, when caring for bamboo, you don’t need to worry about overwatering the plant. It’s practically immortal!

Peace lilies are beautiful plants that bloom white lily-like owers. Often associated with prosperity and peace, they’re a perfect addition to any room. Perhaps their greatest selling point is how easy they are to take care of. All you need to do is water them once a week and make sure to keep them near sunlight.

Supposed to represent positive energy, snake plants are great at cleansing the air. And, according to Feng Shui, the Chinese belief surrounding wellbeing, these particular plants are a symbol of good luck. Plus, they’ve gained popularity over the last few years for being the easiest houseplants to take care of!

As the name implies, these plants don’t need much to live. Usually tiny and easy to grow, air plants do not need soil as they absorb all the nutrients and water they need from the air. On top of this, they require very little light to thrive. A quirky addition to any room, the most popular way to display them is from open-glass balls.

As you can see, taking care of plants doesn’t have to be complicated. And any of these options are sure to be an excellent addition to your student room. Perfect as mood boosters and even better study partners, add a pop of colour to your space with one (or all) of these easy houseplants!
