Picture the scene: youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re relaxing on a golden beach and taking walks while basking in the sun... But wait, where did your beach body go? Fear not! I will walk you through some simple, easy to remember strategies I use to help clients get beach ready and feel conndent not conscious. I would like to start with this: there is no special supplement or shake that will get your summer body for you. Although these can certainly help, there is no substitute substitu for hard work!

DIET

One of the most important pieces of advice I can oďŹ&#x20AC;er is to make sure you keep hydrated. Drink at least 2 litres of water per day as a minimum. Rule-of-thumb for food is an intake of 2,500 calories for men and 2,000 for women per day. When losing weight, I recommend a caloric deecit of around 15-20% and the bulk of those lost calories being carbohydrates.

GOOD FOODS TO EAT Good source of protein i.e. chicken, tuna, steak, eggs, plain Greek yogurt and mixed nuts. Carbohydrates i.e. wholegrain rice, sweet potato, oats and bananas. Healthy fats i.e. avocados, butter, coconut oil, mixed nuts and oily sh such as salmon. Fruit and vegetables i.e. broccoli, spinach, kale, blueberries, pineapple and oranges.

My training methodology is simple, develop a strong foundation and build from there. Using my 12-week plan which consists of 5 strength weeks, 5 hypertrophy training weeks with 2 separate de-load recovery weeks. I encourage resistance training at least 2-3 times per week. How many times you can dedicate will dictate how many exercises you do per session i.e. 3 sessions a week, break it down into: Push day - Bench press, squat, shoulder raises, triceps dips, tricep extensions. Pull day - Deadlift, pull ups, bent over row, bicep curls, rear deltoid raise. Full body - Overhead press, bench press, leg extensions, leg curl, lat pull down.

Start your workouts with compound movements (more than one joint moving) so squats, deadlift, chest press and overhead press. Then move onto your isolation movements, tricep extensions, bicep curls, leg extensions and glute bridges.

The auto-play feature can also prove useful, but beware: falling asleep and letting it run over night can have some bizarre results. You may have fallen asleep listening to Metallica, but now you’re waking up in horror to Nickelback.

The fact that you can use it for free really seals the deal. Although this does mean having to put up with a few seconds of ads between songs... It may not seem like a huge headache, but when there are ad-free alternatives out there, why bother? For the Microsoft fan boys out there, a free trial should be available to you through your Xbox Live Gold subscription. I found Groove to be immediately accessible and easy to use, and there’s a surprisingly large library of music to stream. You can also store and access your existing library on Groove, give it a go, you might be surprised!

Your enjoyment of this will greatly depend on a couple of factors; the big one being that you’ll need a Prime membership, costing you £79 a year. This could be an instant turn off if you don’t already use Prime, but those who do get access to some nifty little features, like playing music through your home speakers using voice control on an Amazon Echo Dot. This may not sound like much, but it’s great for making you feel like you’re in the future.

For me, Deezer’s main point of interest is the Flow feature. As someone who often struggles to find music which appeals to me, this can be a total life saver. Basically, as you listen to more songs, Deezer will constantly be updating its profile of you and will be able to improve its recommendations. This can be an effortless way of discovering new artists.

Over the last three years, British music has become the most desired international flavour. Pharrell Williams is working with Skepta, Drake is co-signing everyone from Giggs to Section Boyz, Lauryn Hill is praising Little Simz; and American awards shows are giving special shout outs to artists like Krept & Konan and Stormzy. As always, when success goes viral, everyone wants to say they had a hand in making it happen, and plenty of people probably did. But there’s one key architect nobody would dispute against… that’s DJ and radio presenter MistaJam!... Interview by Ben Farrin

Hey, Ben apologies in advance for the music in the background, I’m currently grabbing some lunch at everyone’s favourite food place that likes to play large amounts of African and Portuguese music! No worries at all! I was going to ask what are you up to but you’ve just told me! Hahaha – Nandos time! It wasn’t until today that I realised you had your own event called Jam Packed which starts in a few days! Is everything sorted for it, all on track? Yeah, everything’s looking really good. I originally started it a few years ago but I put it on ice, so I’ve decided to bring it back and we’ve put a few bits in the diary coming up... we’ve got an event at Creamfields for the second year running, we’ve got a show coming up in London this week and next month at XOYO, one at Switch in Southampton, one at Astoria in Portsmouth as well. So it’s all going really well, thank you. You’ve got some amazing names including Stormzy, Sub Focus and MJ Cole performing. You’re of course also on the roster. So what can people expect from the actual events? Expect the unexpected. Musically come prepared to party! The whole reason I decided it was time to do my own club night is because I’ve played lots of festivals and clubs over the years, and I noticed there was a generation of people coming through

who were maybe a little bit too pre-occupied with what was going on through the screen of their phone rather than actually just partying and enjoying themselves. Jam Packed is a reaction to that - lots of different kinds of music for lots of different kinds of people to all congregate together and just have a really good time. It doesn’t matter what you look like. Just enjoy yourself. In a way, would you say you’re transferring what you do on the radio to a live event? I suppose so in a number of ways! One of the things I’m trying to do with Jam Packed is have really established names on line-ups with people that you might never have heard before. But because you know I’m curating it, I’m behind it, and you might know who the headliners are, you’ll maybe give a little bit more time to those newer upcoming artists. And possibly discover your new favourite artist from being able to come to one of the nights and enjoy yourself. Amazing! Can we talk a little bit about Stormzy - the man of the moment right now! When was the first time you heard his music? Funnily enough I was actually thinking about this the other day! I was the first person to play Stormzy’s music and interview him on national radio. Some friends of mine, The HeavyTrackerz, the producers, they sent me over a copy of Know Me From, that they produced for him saying “we’ve just made this track for this guy from south London – have a listen and see what you think”. I had a listen and absolutely loved it! I went online and had a look to see what I could find out about this guy and asked HeavyTrackerz to give me his number and I gave him a call. I was like “I really wanna play your record on the radio and would you be interested in doing an interview?” At that point he wasn’t as seen as he is now and so we pre-recorded this interview with him. It was lighting the touchpaper for something that has absolutely exploded. I think it’s testament to just how clever and fearless he is as an artist and a businessman, which is why he is so successful at this moment in time. Musically he is making REALLY exciting music and crossing genres that people wouldn’t usually expect from a young kid from south London. I think if you look at his music business Savvy, he’s smarter than people that have been in the business for 30-40 years. He’s really riding the crest of a wave at the moment.

It’s amazing isn’t it - can you remember any other music genre/ movement in your lifetime that has had such an impact as Grime music? I think that’s because it’s a combination of everything that has been made in the UK over the course of the past 25 years plus. Grime has got a bit of punk in there, it has got Drum n Bass, Jamaican sound and culture which really informs the way we listen to music and electronic music, specifically in a club capacity at the moment. It’s got Hip Hop, Techno, House and Hardcore. It’s got pretty much everything that we’ve pioneered from these shores in one package. I think that’s why so many people around the world are in tune to hearing what’s coming out of this thing because it really is the sound of Britain 2017. Brilliant summary! You must get so much music sent via the BBC Introducing Uploader – in your own words can you explain more about this and why upcoming musicians should get involved… I’m lucky enough that I’m not one of the people that have to go through everything that comes through the uploader. There are so many people that filter through before it gets to me. That’s why I love what BBC Introducing does. Essentially if you send in your music it will get sent to your local BBC music station. There’s an introducing team there who will go through what’s

coming in from the uploader in their area. They will then play the absolute best bits that come in and if it’s really really good it will get sent on to somebody like myself at national radio. When you look at artists that have come via BBC Introducing whether it’s someone like Wretch32, or a band like Cabbage (who have come through BBC Introducing recently), it’s really cool to not only be able to get feedback on your music but also get a level of exposure that helps you to grow in the market. There are very few places that I think have got that level of raw investment into the next and the new. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you personally – we launched A6 Records and I’m not sure if you’ll remember but you played our first release by Arron Erskine (Foolin Me) on BBC Radio 1Xtra…. My pleasure! That’s what BBC Introducing is all about. To be able to give exposure to people and give them feedback at the same time to help them grow. Whilst we’re on the subject, can you explain any dos and donts for artists or labels submitting new music? Really and truthfully just make sure that it’s good. It’s not about putting all of your eggs in one basket. Get yourself out there, get yourself gigs, and start building your fan base. Get yourself to the point where people are excited about you. Make sure no stone is unturned. Be tenacious in trying to get people listening to you and excited by you because that is the thing that is really going to carry you through. What’s the highlight of your career to date please? That’s a very good question! Every day I find the highlight. It’s amazing to be able to do what I do for a living. To be able to pay my bills by playing good music to good people who wanna hear it. Pretty much every day there is something that is another career highlight. And any days that crop up where you don’t have that highlight, that’s a good day because you probably slept a little bit more. Top festival tip? Bring baby wipes. Clean your shoes, baby wipes. Have a wash, baby wipes. Someone is sick down you, baby wipes. Baby wipes are the future!

Turn off the computer, put your phone away, and try to get some rest.

Call me cynical if you like, but just in case your friends aren’t 100% honest... Here is the SPG guide to what your friends ACTUALLY did this summer.

I did an amazing placement at a PR company!

I updated forstationery them a few times before stealingFacebook as much as I could fit in my bag. I volunteered in Africa. It was life changing!

I paid several thousands of pounds to stand around and take awkward selfies with the same children who mined the rare metals contained in my mobile phone. I pulled a hundred or so fit birds/guys in Ibiza.

I had an awkward one night stand and then spent over £200 on data roaming, by frantically googling the symptoms of the STI’s I think I caught. I caught up with my friends in my hometown.

After going to the same rubbish clubs that we went to in 6th form, I now realise that we have utterly nothing in common and I am seriously re-evaluating my life choices.

The most obvious disadvantage. For instance, annual parking licences can be £250+ at some city universities. More rural uni accommodation tends to have cheaper parking, but it is still a price you will have to pay. Also, parking in a city centre brings a world of new challenges such as permit parking, parking hours and pay and display.

Alternatives like public transport, lift-sharing or even walking may convince you to leave your car behind. Bus companies also provide student discounts so it’s sensible to take advantage of this while you can.

Everybody knows uni can be stressful; deadlines or even your social life can get hectic. Adding a car to the mix and worries like scrapes, vandalism or a dreaded breakdown is the last thing you’ll need. It’s probably worth pondering whether you’re able to deal with the difficulties car ownership can spring on you.

The unrivalled convenience is something you’ll likely end up taking for granted, but if you’re in a rural setting with the local town centre a bus ride away, a car will always be the more appealing option.

A car will also give you the freedom to explore beyond the university community. Not just the local area, but further afield- the next town over or perhaps county. You may have travelled the length of the country for your university; it’d be a good idea to take in as much of the culture and scenery as possible.

If your degree requires a work placement, you’ll probably find a more extensive range of jobs available to you if you can travel further and quicker. Employers may even look more favourably on those with access to a car from a dependability standpoint.

WOOO! I LOVE THIS SONG! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE EVERYTHING! WOOOOOO! As soon as someone so much as whistles, Dancing Danni is strutting her stuff on the dance floor/your kitchen. She will bring a lot of energy to the party (in the same way that a dog humping your leg is just being friendly).

BURNY BERNIE

Burny Bernie is often found at the grill. He will eye up every burger, sausage and chicken wing as if it will leap off the grill and murder the crap out of everyone. After a few hours, every item on the grill is a shrivelled lump of carbon as black as his heart. Bernie says “These look OK,” and serves them up to his guests.

STRAIGHT EDGE SAMANTHA

Straight-Edge Samantha isn’t drinking tonight. That’s fine. What isn’t fine is that she will REMIND YOU EVERY FIVE SECONDS. Maybe she’s looking after a friend or doing a ‘sober for a month’ challenge or some other nonsense. Whatever. Her waves of self-righteous behaviour will be equalled only by the number of cups of diet cola she consumes.

FORGETFUL FREDDIE

Hey Freddie! Hey - how’s it going? Great party huh? So… What did you bring? Oh, you forgot to bring anything? Hey - it’s cool! Don’t worry about it! It’s fine, no really! Don’t give it a second thought... Jerk. Don’t be this guy.

Who wants a plain olâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; salad these days? Spice up your greens with these funky salad recipes...

Some chunky avocado, pieces of streaky bacon, and hard-boiled egg halves are sure to make your salad more exciting. Simply toss your lettuce, tomato, bacon, sliced avocado and egg with some oil, lemon juice, mayonnaise, and salt and pepper to taste!

Simply salt some heirloom tomato chunks and toss with your lettuce and some sliced shallots. Drizzle over some olive oil and white wine vinegar and season with some salt and pepper.

This beautiful, refreshing salad is easily prepared with sliced olives, sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, as well as some chicken or sausage. Toss together with your lettuce, olive oil, lemon juice and season.

More bacon! The creamy sauce for this is prepared with buttermilk, mayonnaise, and salt and pepper whisked together. Toss with your spinach, bacon and any other ingredients which youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d like.

Fruit & chicken? It works better than youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d think! Cook your chicken and toss with your mixed leaves, croutons, sliced onion and peppers, and pomegranate seeds. Drizzle a vinaigrette dressing and season.

Boil and mash some spuds before squeezing in some lemon juice and tossing in some diced mint leaves. Then add around 6 tbsp of mayonnaise and season with S&P. Refrigerate for 30 mins and serve.

Boil your peas, drain, and then mix in 6 tbsp of mayonnaise Add some diced mint leaves and season with S&P. Like the potato salad, leave to chill for 30 minutes in the fridge and then serve up on a bed of mixed leaves, along with any ingredients of your choice.

Currently in the studio finishing further new material, Sigma (aka Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie) have been able to catch their breath after a two and a half year whirlwind that began with their first number 1 single. As it stands, Sigma have now sold over 300,000 albums in 10 months, with over 4 million singles sold in total, including 8 hit records (2x Platinum, 1x Gold, and 3x Silver). Hey Joe, what’s happening in the world of Sigma at the moment? At the moment we’re in the studio a lot and constantly touring. We’re DJing all of the time; Cam is actually out in America touring and I’m going out there to meet him next week. We’re doing a load of writing sessions in LA with some American songwriters, and then we come back and we’ve got our live European tour. We’re doing our headline show at the Royal Albert Hall and then obviously moving into summer we’ve just got a ridiculous amount of festivals and Ibiza dates and European stuff going on! So it’s good, we’re very busy. Just in terms of the brand and the profile since we’ve started doing the live shows and after putting the album out, I guess the awareness of us as artists has increased. It’s funny, because you can have a couple of tracks which do really well, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that people connect you to those songs. It takes a couple of years of playing at big festivals and doing big shows before people get to know that you’re the guys who make them. How did Sigma come about? Tell us about your journey. We met at Leeds University and through the club scene there. We were just up there studying and we went out partying together quite a lot. Then we started making music together and obviously came back from university, moved down to just outside London and continued to do what we love: making music. I guess it all came from there! So did you think your track ‘Nobody To Love’ was going to do as well as it has done? Currently, it’s at over 222 million views on YouTube! We never really expected anything from any of it. I mean, we obviously knew that we liked what we were doing - but you can never quite believe the levels you are getting to. I know it sounds quite big headed, but you just genuinely never would have believed that would have been the case. We were just making music for clubs to play out at weekends and to DJ, then suddenly it became this huge snowball that turned into some insane, crazy ride which obviously is a lot of fun.

What’s been your weirdest fan experience? I wasn’t actually at the gig, but Cam was DJing when someone passed him an envelope from a fan who had drawn a picture of me, wrote me a letter, and left a lock of her hair for me along with a pencil with a treble clef on the top, which is a bit strange! This girl kept turning up at events which we were playing and kept leaving notes and stuff - definitely a bit strange. Can you tell us something that not many people know about you guys? We probably spend most of our alone time going for country walks and doing pretty civilised stuff! That’s quite boring, that, isn’t it (laughs). You’re going to be touring Europe! What’s the best thing about travelling around for shows? If you get time to kill when you’re in a city, it’s great to see everything which that city has on offer - like the tourist stuff, and you get to potentially eat at some really nice restaurants. I think as long as you’ve got good people around you, who can tell you what’s worth going to see and which restaurants are worth going to, it’s cool. I guess that’s one of the highlights, along with playing at shows for great people. Do you travel just as a duo or with a crew? When we DJ it’s generally just us, our MC and our tour manager. When we do the live shows it’s a massive team of people. We have light technicians, sound guys and

obviously all of the vocalists who perform with us. I think on our last tour it was a team of 17 people; it’s quite a big team but it’s fun! We’ve been really lucky to have built a really cool group of people to travel around with, because from conversations in the past, it can be quite difficult if you’re in a situation when you don’t necessarily get on with some of the people you’re working with. Spending so much time with one another in that case can get quite tricky. But luckily for us, everyone we work with has been amazing and really helps to make the show what it is. What’s been your favourite live performance to date and why? There have definitely been a few. One of them would probably be our headline show at Brixton Academy, because for us it’s a real milestone achievement to say that we’ve done that. I think the biggest one hasn’t happened yet, which is obviously at Royal Albert Hall. Again, we’re kind of pinching ourselves wondering how it’s even happened. I know that’s going to be a real moment. In terms of festivals, some of the European ones have been great. In the UK, V Festival is always good, Reading and Leeds Festival, there have

You’re a duo artist, but do you ever do shows on your own? When we DJ, a lot of the time we DJ independently. It’s just down to where we’re at; we work Monday to Friday in the studio, so when we’re doing a lot of shows we tend to split up. Having a night off from DJing is quite nice as it’s time to be normal, so that’s generally what we try to do. As I said, Cam’s out there doing the American dates, so in the meantime I’m playing UK and Europe. I did the Drum and Bass Awards which was fun! What festivals are you playing this year? I’m not sure which ones I can say. I know we’ve announced V Festival so we’re doing that, and we’ve announced SW4 Festival where we’re doing a live show on the main stage. We’re also doing We Are FSTVL with a DJ set on the main stage, but it’s the same day as our Royal Albert Hall show. We’re doing an early set there and then going straight to Royal Albert Hall to play live. What’s been your most embarrassing moment? I nearly fell off the stage playing live at Glastonbury - on the main stage as well, in front of nearly 100,000 people. I didn’t actually fall, but I nearly did, so that’s one. I can’t think of any others! Which artists inspired the music you produce, and have you always been into that

just been so many great moments we’ve had whilst doing the live show - it’s been pretty fun.

style of music? We listened to such a broad variety of stuff, so it’s hard to pick one particular act. We listen to a lot of other styles of dance music. I’m a massive fan of Calvin Harris, and he’s a big influence on some of the stuff we do. I don’t know man, we’ve always got our right ear to the ground as to what’s hot, and we listen to a lot of current stuff. We listen to a lot of old stuff too, like old soul and funk music, hip hop and all kinds of other stuff! It’s a real mix. Do you focus on one particular style in terms of producing? I guess our sound has been drum and bass up until this point, but a lot of the stuff we’ve been making recently has had a bit of a change of direction. When we move into this next album campaign, it’s going to be interesting to see what people think of our new music. It’s not just drum and bass; it’s a lot of different stuff! Drum and bass is obviously where we started, and experimenting with other genres and styles doesn’t mean to say we’re always going to produce drum and bass. I think when you’re in the studio 24/7 you need to do different stuff to keep you interested, like different sounds and styles – that’s basically what we do. Top tracks you guys are playing at the moment? I think most of the new stuff we’re making is just new bits that we’re producing. Generally when we DJ we probably play like 60 or 70 percent of our own music, so apart from that we might play

a new Chase & Status mix and we get sent quite a lot of stuff quite early. Maybe like a Chase & Status tune or something by Hazard, so nothing in particular! Unless I give you some names of some of our new stuff, and I can’t do that! We’ve got so many songs; we were talking about it the other day. On my hard drive there are probably about 50 songs we’ve written in the past year or so. A lot of them aren’t going to see the light of day unfortunately, because you can’t put out that many tracks, you know? We do like to test them out when we play, and I guess it just gets a reaction from the crowd. You’ve collaborated with Take That! How did that happen? With that song, we were presented an idea by a company who writes songs. They came up with a concept, and recorded a demo with Gary Barlow and the other Take That guys. Then they emailed it over to us and we heard it. We spent a bit of time going back and forwards speaking to Gary Barlow and the guys; we took it, produced it, and turned it into our own thing. We hung out with Take That a fair bit, and they’re really nice dudes!

What’s next for Sigma this year? As I said, we’re just doing lots of writing at the moment, so we’re just trying to break down the potential songs which are going to be on the next single. We’ve had so many tracks which have been back to back on the radio; I think we’ve now had 10 tracks back to back which have been on the A List on Radio 1. That’s pretty insane! We’re just going to take a step back for the next couple of months - just working out our next plan, writing lots of new music, obviously touring and continuing to do what we love.

“Not everyoney understands house music”… A quote that’s been used in many official tracks and bootlegs. I remember, back in the day getting hold of a white label remix from Blackmarket Records - I miss those days. Getting a travel card, taking a trip to London and literally spending all day trying to find rare white

labels and press releases. Ray Keith used to work there and he’d always sort me out a really decent pile of tunes. Memories flood back to me as I write this: queuing for a spare deck to listen on, handing over a £10 deposit for a needle (which skips, but don’t worry, just place a 1 pence coin on top)… and the satisfaction

you get walking out of a record shop with the last copy of only 5 they had, knowing you had a gem no one could get their hands on. I also miss the mixes we’d have. All my mates bundling into a bedroom with their new tunes, showing off what records we’d bought. Then someone taking a spare set of headphones to use them as a mic to MC with. I fully embrace digital DJing by the way, providing it’s used to progress mixes, improve skills and create a better mix. If it’s a case of auto syncing and simply used to beat match, then I’m totally against it. Recently, I got my Technics 1210’s out, dusted them down and luckily didn’t sell my vinyl. There’s nothing quite like a decent vinyl session. Funnily enough the tunes have gone full circle and still sound amazing. If you think of the true house/techno DJ legends, Carl Cox, Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, Sasha, Erick Morillo… They’re all still on the circuit and smashing it! In recent years we’ve seen a wave of younger DJs who are equally as great, helping to develop house music, Martin Garrix for example who’s worked with the likes of Tiësto, and was smashing the DJ circuit at just 17 years old! What a journey he has had. What’s been very noticeable in the past decade is how social media and technology has opened up a window of opportunity for new artists. Imagine before Facebook was

around, if you wanted to promote a gig, you’d print 10k flyers, and put posters up on every subway, billboard and kebab shop! Now you can simply create an event on Facebook and invite your friends. You can even target people with an interest in the exact genre, targeting specific artist’s fans. That’s incredible if you think about it. With more competi-

tion out there, how this window of opportunity is used is key, but content is king. If you genuinely have something worth listening to, it will get heard. Take Joshua Roberts for example. This guy has an incredible talent and he’s smart, because he is doing something very unique. If you haven’t seen him live

before then you must. The energy he brings to his sets is second to none, and the effort he goes to creating cutting edge mixes is amazing. Check out Joshua Roberts Live – 3 Minutes of Fire below, where he manages to mix, chop, cut, scratch, loop and sample 13 tracks in under 3 minutes. Added to this his signature electronic drums and wow, what a pleasure it is to listen to and see. There’s no surprise that it received hundreds of share within hours: I’ve personally met and interviewed many DJs, producers, as well as pop artists. One question that seems to have a similar answer from everyone I’ve ever asked “what is your top tip for upcoming artists”, is do what you love doing. Don’t change your style for anyone. And never give up, because it is the sheer determination that might be the difference between making it or not.

Hi Daniel! How are you and your brothers? Good! Everything’s great. You graduated from Harvard Law School before moving back to Florida to be with your brothers and that is where your music really took off! But was music a big part of your lives as children? We would sing a lot and we always had a passion for music but we didn’t really start playing music at a young age. Alejandro didn’t pick up a guitar until he was about 13 – at that time Fabien was 15 and I was 19 so we started playing music more in our teens and it just really took off from there. Were your parents interested in music? My mom used to sing and my grandfather plays the guitar and sings. My mom had a really pretty singing voice so she had sung in some high school bands and some other stuff like that but that was about it – no formal training. Cool! So you guys started sharing your music and other content on YouTube in 2007 way before the platform was popular. How quickly did your videos gain attention and were you surprised by it? It was pretty quick actually! We did a cover of Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ and it kind of took off and it got a lot of views right out of the gate. It’s hard to keep perspective on things now because the views our videos used to get then are drastically different than now. But I do remember that it really took off. The first video would just get like a few thousand views and then the second video, you check back and the views just kept jumping. And so we would read all the comments and we were so excited to see it happen and then after that, it was more the case of us being really consistent posting videos and people were sharing them, and it just grew and grew and grew! So from an early time I think we got really lucky and got a few good features on YouTube and a few videos that went “mini viral” so to speak. We’ve never been a runaway viral success – we’ve just been consistent and solid throughout the years and I think that’s been the key to our success. And how did you personally cope with the sudden fame and success? It was just really neat to be in a band with your brothers because we keep each other grounded and very humble and also it was a very natural progression for us, we weren’t like a radio act that goes from playing to 20 people to playing to like 20,000! For us it was a gradual process; we would tour and then amass more fans, and then tour again. We really grew the whole thing organically and gradually so I don’t think we ever had those growing pains where you’d go from 0 to 60.

You guys have done a lot of covers but you have your own stuff out there too – what aspects of writing and recording do you enjoy most and how does it differ to recording and performing covers? We try to put a lot of ourselves and a lot of creativity into the covers so it’s never really felt too disconnected and they’re very... You...? Yeah exactly! That said, there’s nothing quite like writing your own song and being able to put your own message into it and then have people sing it back to you or have it affect them. That’s the most rewarding part for sure of what we do but we enjoy all of it. The covers are a nice little escape as well; they’re easier and you don’t have to torment over every last lyric. So really, I think we enjoy both parts of the process. You’re playing at The Royal Albert Hall this year, how does that feel? Oh my God we’re so excited about this. I think a lot of American bands didn’t grow up with respect or an appreciation of what it means to have an opportunity to play a show like that. A big part of our story from the earliest days was trying to build a touring fan base overseas and in particular in the UK and Ireland. We had some rough tours at the beginning where we didn’t make money and had to go out of pocket but when it was early on it was important to do that, it was important to give it a shot and to regularly tour over there (UK and Ireland). It became a home away from home. We’ve toured over there almost 10 times now and so early on we started setting our sights on playing at The Royal Albert Hall and it seemed like such a far-fetched goal and as it got closer and closer, it started seeming more attainable. This year is our 10th anniversary being on YouTube and it just seemed like this is the big remaining thing to accomplish... It’s a huge honour and I think it will be a show we remember forever. Do you have a favourite city or country you like playing in most? I’ve got quite a few. I love playing in London; it’s been very consistent for us. We have some really crazy memories of our shows further north. Crowds start to get a little rowdy once you get up into Glasgow and we’ve had some epic shows in Dublin. In the US we’ve had some amazing shows in Austin and Montreal in Canada – it’s home to some of our most epic shows ever; the crowds just go nuts there. So there are quite a few places all over the world that we have really good memories in.

So once you’ve played The Royal Albert Hall, what do you think will be next for the band? I don’t know, I think honestly, just continue to write and record music. I think after that show we’ll probably hunker down and start assembling another original album which will be exciting because Fabien will have had a baby and in April I will have my fourth kid so maybe a cool time to start writing lullabies? Congratulations to both of you! What advice would you give to aspiring musicians? I’d just say work hard and be consistent. We went several years trying to figure out what was the “right way” for us to put out our music and I think we’ve finally found it and stuck with it. But nothing comes easy, I think some people think they can put something on YouTube and become an overnight sensation these days. The way we did it, it still took years of experimentation and hard work. Do you have a positive memory from your career that really stands out to you most? I remember we played a show at the Hammersmith Apollo in London that felt very daunting and epic at the time so that show has always stuck in my head as one of our coolest headline shows we’ve ever done. So I think it’s fitting that in our 10th anniversary we’re about to play The Royal Albert Hall – that might be a memory that we can add to that ongoing story of great shows in London. What is one of your most embarrassing moments? For me that’s easy. I didn’t use to have one, I used to struggle answering this question to be honest. A few years ago at a college show, fortunately a very small one, I don’t know how but – I wasn’t even jumping or doing anything momentous, but I somehow slipped on stage and I fell flat on my back with the instrument still on. No one else in the band even stopped but I just remember that moment where all of a sudden I’m having a great time and then I’m staring up at the ceiling thinking, “Oh my God...” FOR MUSIC, GIGS & MORE... But honestly, a garden party without a theme isn’t a party it’s just a few mates gathered together for a couple of drinks. For that reason, we’ve put together the best party themes that’ll help you throw amazing garden parties this summer. Your mates will not be disappointed.

Have a Mad Hatters bash! Ask your guests to meet you in Wonderland... Decorate your garden with mismatched teacups and saucers. Set up a long table and attach labels like ‘eat me’ and ‘drink me’ to food and drink you serve to guests. Scatter items across the table like golden keys and key holes and have your guests wear top hats or rabbit ears.

Decorate your garden fiesta with tissue paper streams, colourful bowl bands and flags to welcome your guests into something which makes them feel like they’re in Mexico! Did someone say cocktails? Treat your guests to a Watermelon Margarita and tacos which everyone will love and ask your guests to turn up wearing sombreros!

To save money, cover any ordinary tables with red and black table cloths to give it that casino feel. Organise fake money to make things look convincing - your guests will love this! FIZZY LIZZY

A fruity beverage which falls somewhere between a Margarita and a champagne cocktail. This refreshingly bubbly drink consists of our favourite booze, tequila, sweetened by a fruity black berry liqueur and orange cognac mixture. Garnish it with raspberry sugar and raspberries for the ultimate summer cocktail.

HONEY TANGERINE SM ASH

As easy as it sounds; mash up some tangerines (or blend with ice if you prefer) and mix with some honey infused bourbon. Garnish with a tangerine segment and some sugar. It’s fun, easy, and delicious!

CHEEKY VIMTO An old student classic! It might be something to do with the fact it looks like Ribena? Combine together blue WKD with a little port and then add a trickle of vodka. This cocktail is perfect for any summer party or BBQ.

DARK & STORMY Not feeling so fruity, this could be the drink for you! On top of a couple shots of rum, pour over ginger beer and then garnish with a lime wedge. Could that really be any easier? Perfect for the dark horse in you...

ROOFTOP LEMONADE This cocktail is light and crisp and will have you channelling your inner billionaire sipping it on their rooftop garden... Okay maybe not. But this drink is vodka mixed with lemonade, tossed with cucumber slices, and then poured into a Collins glass and garnished lemon wedges.

LEMON DROP

This rather zesty cocktail consists of a little vodka, lemon juice, and a tablespoon of sugar, shaken up and poured into a fancy martini glass with a dash of lemonade. It’s seriously sweet, does this count as one of our ‘5 a day’?

Flirting isnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t something we can all be good at. I, for one, totally suck. As do other people, but thank God we werenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t these people... Yikes.

“My brother in law was once flirting intensely with this girl at a bar for about two hours… He got her number, left the bar, and two days later he ran into the same girl. At a family reunion. Because she was his cousin.” “I was walking home and saw my crush in front of me walking with a friend of his. I decided I’’d be all cute and run past them, turn my head, and smile. As soon as I passed them, I let out a couple of pretty loud farts… I was hoping they didn’t notice until I heard his friend ask if I was farting…’“ “I was hitting on a cute cashier at American Eagle, and he noticed my Marvel shirt and asked who my favourite Marvel character was. My response was ‘the whore’. I tried to combine The Hulk and Thor…” “I was walking down the main street in Manchester when I made eye contact with a man who had clearly been crafted by Jesus. I then walked into a pole. He laughed so hard, it still haunts me to this day.” “I was at a gay bar a couple months ago. There was this guy wearing the exact same shirt as me. I go up to him and say something like “Cool shirt!”. He responds::“Looks better on you.” My drunken response: “I know”. Run away.” “I was flirting with a girl in a bar and it seemed to be going well. About a half hour into our conversation, I had one of those very strong sneezes, the ones that come out of nowhere and cannot be stopped. I ended up snotting into my hand and had a string of goo from my hands to my face when I pulled my hands away.“

Being a student doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have to be boring. We all love a good party, and we all love booze! SPG have come up with a list of drinking games we think you all need to know about, to make your partying days unforgettable!

This one is bound to cause giggles. Get your mates to sit in a circle or around a table with their drinks, with your heads face down on the table. On the count of three, all lift your heads and stare intensely at someone else in the circle. If you’re staring at someone who is also staring at you, take a drink! If you’re looking at someone who isn’t looking at you, you’re safe!

A real classic! The game is simple! Take it in turns to make a statement in the form of “Never have I ever...” and say something you haven’t done. Anyone else who has done that something has to drink!

Because we love taking innocent board games and turning them into drinking games (sorry, not sorry). If you have some Jenga bricks, grab a pen and write instructions on them such as “Don’t speak for the rest of the game” or “Take a shot”. Play the game as normal and each person has to follow the instruction that is on the brick they pull. Anyone who refuses to follow the instruction or collapses the tower has to take a drink. Simple!

Get your mates in a circle and have the person on your right whisper a question to you where the answer has to be someone else in the circle; such as “Who is the most annoying?” Your answer must be said out loud to the room with the person’s name. Anyone who wants to know what the question was must take a drink.

This oneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s for the people with iron stomachs! Get your mates to go into the kitchen and make something gross (like a crisp dipped in honey and then topped with tuna). If you refuse to eat what your friends have made, you drink. But if you do eat it, your friends must then drink. Good luck with that one. First person to puke loses! (Just kidding, please donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t make yourself sick).

Sit in a circle with your mates. In your head you will come up with a quick story about yourself; it might be true or it might be false. Everyone else must decide whether you are lying or telling the truth. Depending on how many shots/gulps you take from your drink depends on how many people guessed true or false correctly!

We’ve all been there – your eyes peel open and as your surroundings come into focus, you’re wondering where the hell you are. Then comes that pounding headache followed by the awful morning breath and dry mouth. Things only get worse when you realise “drunk you” wasn’t considerate enough to put a glass of water out for “sober you” – how could they? Don’t worry, here’s how you can avoid these dreadful mornings...

MULTIVITAMINS

Plot twist! Hangovers are not entirely about dehydration (don’t get us wrong, dying of thirst doesn’t help)! Pop a multivitamin tablet or drink some pomegranate juice before you go out to prevent oxidative stress and inflammation in the morning.

FOOD

You might be watching what you eat but before you go out, don’t eat something light like a salad! Eat something heavy like a big fat burger that’s going to fill you up. Make sure it’s rich in carbs, protein, and fat as hangovers are not just a result of how much you drink, but how you metabolize alcohol.

SLEEP

Of course sleeping doesn’t magically cure a hangover or prevent one. But being well rested will reduce the intensity of symptoms. Sleeping after drinking is effective in essentially skipping the worst part of your hangover as it gives your body time to sleep through the worst of your symptoms.

QUIT SMOKING

Studies have shown that people who smoke heavily while drinking suffer from worse hangovers than those who don’t. It might be difficult to quit smoking especially in social situations – but it’s important you limit yourself the best you can.

WATER

Probably the most well known hangover prevention; drink a glass (or two) of water before going to sleep and leave a full glass next to you when you wake up to treat that dry hangover mouth. Sober you will really appreciate the effort.

CLEAR LIQUOR

Gin and vodka have less impurities and toxins in them than drinks such as whisky and rum! Stick to the clear stuff and you can avoid some of the more unbearable symptoms of a hangover such as puking. Nice.

Exclusive Interview By Chloe Gascoigne

American rock band, All Time Low, have just finished up their UK tour prior to the release of their 7th studio album ‘Last Young Renegade’. Since forming in 2003 the band has had multiple singles go gold and platinum in the UK and they have smashed their way to the top of the music industry. We spoke with front man, Alex Gaskarth, about all things touring, zombies, and their latest hit ‘Dirty Laundry’.

Hi Alex! How are you and how is the UK tour going? Tours been great! It’s winding down actually. Tomorrow is the last show – London! Starting and finishing in London. We had to hit Norwich before we left! This morning you were performing in the Radio 1 live lounge, now you’re here, and tomorrow you’re travelling back to London for your last show. How do you cope with such a crazy schedule and what do you do to relax? I think you just kind of get used to it and you go with the flow. One of the big things working in this industry is you just kind of learn to roll with the punches and go where you need to be. If you’re tired you suck it up – but it’s all worth it in the end! The payoff is insane. Cool! Do you get time to explore the cities you play in? Yeah we do! I mean, not every single day, but for the most part we generally have a little bit of time to wonder around and see what’s out there. After the show we go out and see what’s around and yeah it’s a lot of fun! Do you have a favourite city? There are so many good places... Osaka in Japan. What about in the UK? Actually we just played Cambridge and it’s a really cool city! London is probably my favourite.

Your latest album, ‘Last Young Renegade’, is a studio album set for release in June. We’ve all heard Dirty Laundry and it’s sound is very different to your previous stuff – what can we expect from the rest of the album? Well you might’ve heard the second song we put out, ‘Last Young Renegade’, it’s a little more up tempo and closer to what people are used to hearing from us. I think it’s really kind of all over the place; it really runs the spectrum of what All Time Low can do. The biggest thing I think is that we wanted to put ‘Dirty Laundry’ out first – it just seemed like the right thing to put forward plus we wanted to change some things up a little bit and try something different. And also, it just felt like the first part of the story we wanted to tell lyrically. I think the record is a little bit darker and it explores some different themes that we haven’t really touched on before so it felt like a really good way to set all that up.

Do you have a personal favourite track from the album? I do! It is really difficult to choose right now because the record is so fresh and it’s not even out yet and we’re still waiting to see how the crowds react. Right now I have found a new appreciation for ‘Dirty Laundry’ since we’ve started playing it live and the crowds have been so receptive and amazing. But there are a few really good ones on there that I love! When you play, is there a particular song (out of all your songs) that really stands out and gets the best reaction from the crowds? I think ‘Dirty Laundry’ is up there right now! It has really been so cool and it’s a new one – the fans kind of steal it and takeover and sing it really loud. How does it feel recently having multiple singles go Gold/Platinum in the UK? It’s insane. Especially because a lot of them are from our back catalogue and we put those out years ago and the fact they’re still building and rolling like that is very rewarding. It’s awesome. It’s good to know there are new fans coming along and then buying the old stuff.

What do you like most about UK crowds? I think there is a great energy over here and people are really into rock music and that atmosphere and for a little while, I think that got kind of stale in the states. The UK has always kept things fresh in terms of rock music. Out of your whole career, is there one show in particular that really stands out to you? I don’t know about one... We’ve played a lot of shows at this point and it’s really tough to put it down to one. There have been so many amazing times... Opening for Green Day at Emirates Stadium years ago was really cool. Our last arena run was really amazing because that was the first time we’d done that as a headliner.

You guys spend a lot of time together especially on tour – do you ever annoy each other? No to be honest, not really! We’re like brothers at this point; there are fights but nothing serious! It’s usually just dumb sh*t and then it blows over. What is your strangest fan experience? There have definitely been some... Nothing crazy though! People have actually been really rad in recent years but there was a time where people were showing up at my house! A little invasive and inappropriate. We’re now getting onto the weird questions... In the event of a zombie apocalypse, what would be your plan of action? Head for the water. Stock up on sh*t, get on a boat, and get out of there! Only make stops for supply runs but mostly stay on the water. Zombies don’t f*ck with the water. They don’t! What about your choice of weapon? You can’t limit yourself to one... Bludgeoning weapons are good. I like to think you’d have to learn to shoot left handed so you use your strong hand for close range combat and take out some targets from far away with your left... I really thought this through. You were a zombie in your ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ music video... True. I know how dangerous I was – I’ve been in a zombie’s mind!

What is your number one choice of drink on a night out? Here in Norwich? It’s got to be Snakebite, baby! What advice would you give to aspiring musicians? Go with your guts. Stay true to yourself and do what you believe is the best thing for you. What is your process when it comes to writing lyrics? There isn’t really one specific thing. Sometimes they come with the music sometimes they come after. It’s dependent on the mood and the vibe. I wish there was one specific way that I wrote but it changes all the time! Are you ever drunk writing your lyrics? Yeah sometimes! I’ve written a lot of sh*t. Do you have a least favourite song? Yes. But, I’ve stopped answering that question because someone is then like, “But that’s my favourite song!” and I keep ruining it for people! (laughs). Thank you very much for speaking with us! Hey Oliver – how are you at the moment? I’m good, thank you. A few days ago I was in Bangkok and Dubai and on Friday, I play in Barcelona, so I’m just relaxing at home until then. Can we talk about the Good Life Remix Competition you’ve recently announced three winners for? (three very different versions!) Did you always know you were going to announce three winners and did you have a particular sound you were aiming to find? I wasn’t looking for a particular sound and from the start, we said we’d choose three winners. There were a few hundred people who entered their remixes; it was tricky picking the winners. I’m sure you love all three, but if you had to choose only one for a DJ set, which one would you play?

Yeah indeed a tough question. I have supported all the remixes in my radio show. The version from Blake Tree probably works best in my set. Besides the remix competition we also had an official remix package and Kryder was one of the remixers, I play his remix quite often in my sets. As well as releasing solo tracks, you’ve worked alongside the likes of Tiësto and Sander Van Doorn to release some top tunes! Is there anyone on your hit-list who you want to work with next? Nile Rodgers, the guy from Chic, the guitarist/songwriter guy. We were actually working on something together. I sent him a track and he sent me some extra guitar sounds,

which was pretty cool. There are so many great artists I would love to work with like Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake - that would be sick. Do you live and breathe dance music, or can you surprise us with a guilty pleasure for a completely different genre? I just love music and believe nobody should feel guilty for the music they like, but let me think of a good one! I do like old disco stuff, like Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ - but I don’t see it as a guilty pleasure, but just as a song I like. Gecko (Overdrive) is still dominating your Spotify playlist, with a monumental 87,928,075 streams! That’s more than five times the amount of people that live in your home country, The Netherlands! When you put that into perspective, it really is crazy. The number of streams is crazy. For me though, it feels crazier that I can play shows everywhere and so many people come.

What’s the biggest crowd you’ve played to, and what’s the feeling like? Do you get nervous? 50,000! Years ago I would get really nervous, but nowadays not really. Of course I get excited as well as getting a healthy tension, but I don’t get nervous anymore. What was it like for you growing up in the Netherlands and before you broke into the music scene; had you seen much of the world? Growing up in the Netherlands was great. The people here are a bit more sober than those from other countries. For example there’s an expression ‘just act normal, you’re already crazy enough’. The Dutch cultural background is really good for me, because when you get famous and have a lot of

success, you can change as a person, and I think that because I grew up in the Netherlands so it was easier for me to stay normal. Plus the people around me stayed pretty normal as I was breaking through as a DJ so it was definitely good for me. I had been to the south of France quite a lot on vacation as well as Belgium, Germany and London actually. Also I had been to Sri Lanka before I broke through, but that’s it.

Also, take ear plugs for the plane. Sometimes in hotels it gets light even though they have curtains, so if you want to sleep during the day, take an eye mask! Let’s talk about your tour which starts in two days and runs right through the summer until September, including sets at Tomorrowland, Parklife, and gigs all

Do a lot of people know you by face in everyday life? Do you get a lot of fuss from the public wherever you go? A little bit. For example I was just in Rotterdam recently for an interview, and a few different people recognised me in a short time. Do you enjoy it? I find it funny. Sometimes it can be annoying but I can’t do anything about it. I mean I could go undercover or something. Just half an hour ago there was a girl from Poland, she was probably on vacation in the Netherlands in Rotterdam. She then saw me and started running towards me; she almost started crying. It was a bit weird, but it was also kind of cute that she was so happy. Oliver Heldens’ top travelling tip? Travel light and don’t drink too much!

over Europe, USA, Brazil, Canada, and more. Yeah I’m touring most of the time; I’m on the road more than I am at home. Do you ever get a chance to get out and explore the places you’re visiting? Most of the time it’s more “in and out” and then we’re heading to the next place. Sometimes I do five cities in a row and occasionally I’ve done two cities in one day. So I don’t really get to see much of the actual countries.

But when I have the time I like to go for a long walk and explore the city for a bit. The other weekend I was playing in Barcelona and both my brother and dad were there as well. We stayed for an extra night so we could explore the beautiful city and enjoyed all of the nice food and culture. Can you give us a scenario of when you had to play two cities in one day? Yeah, I was playing in New York on New Years and the show finished at around 11pm. We had to rush to the airport and get a helicopter to another airport where the jets were at. We jetted off to Toronto and I played another show there in the same day. That was pretty epic, we saw the fireworks in NY when sitting in the helicopter. And where are you most excited to play on the tour you’re about to start? That’s a tricky one; there are so many great festivals. I’m excited to be back in the UK for Park Life Festival and Creamfields. I can’t actually remember what else I have coming up, because my schedule is so packed (laughs). How are things going with Heldeep Records? Good! I release my own music on there but I also release new music on there from fresh new talent. It’s really awesome to be able to give those talents a platform – it feels great. Every week I do a radio show so I always look for new stuff then. Also people send me music available for my label and if I really like it, then I will release it. Are you working on a long term strategy or do you take things as they come? I’m just focused on making new music for my sets, new edits, more mash ups. Of course I have a strategy in the sense that I’m like “Yeah, I’ll release that first, and then this.” And my management team is involved for strategy matters as well - Which shows to book, which territories, putting me in sessions with great writers and

producers and making sure there is promo and marketing etc. It’s becoming more of a bigger team every year. Top three tracks you’re playing out right now? My HI-LO track with Sander Van Doorn ‘What The F*ck’ is a really big track in my sets. Also, HI-LO Renegade Master always goes off, like crazy, and Jack Master ‘Bang The Box’ (Slam Remix), I made a little edit of that one – it really goes off. If you had to pick your best nightclub in the entire world, where would it be and why? I honestly cannot pick! There’s so many. When I’m in a club I’m Djing and not in the crowd, so there aren’t really many clubs I have been as a visitor. But if I have to pick it’s got to be clubbing in Ibiza! Where do you see yourself in 10 years time? Just making music – I will always see myself creating music and DJing. Pretty much doing what I do now, but maybe in 10 years I’ll have a girlfriend and maybe want kids... It’s been a real pleasure talking to you, Oliver! Thanks for talking to us! No worries! Thanks!

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy After a long period of inactivity, many fans started to lose hope that we would ever see a new Crash title. But Crash is back! The beloved bandicoot will be making his triumphant return to the PlayStation 4 on June 30th with the N. Sane Trilogy, featuring the original Crash trilogy and boasting a complete graphical overhaul. Whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s interesting about this compared to something like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, is that the games will not be running on the original engine. Instead, the late 90s classics have been rebuilt from the ground up. This is indeed a little worrying, as Crash was renowned for controlling so smoothly on the original PlayStation. Letâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hope this can live up to fan expectations, and take us all on a wumpa fuelled stroll down memory lane.

Sonic Mania & Sonic FORCES 2017 is proving to be a very exciting year for Sonic the Hedgehog fans. Not only are we getting Sonic Mania this summer – a return to the classic 2D style of Sonic gameplay, featuring sprite based graphics and brand new abilities – but also a mysterious new title later this year, titled Sonic Forces. Many fans of the blue blur are ecstatic to see that the ‘boost’ style of high speed 3D gameplay is making a comeback; it blew us away when it debuted in Sonic Unleashed, and won doubters over when it was finely retuned in Sonic Generations. Both of the new titles will be released on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. We’re desperately hoping that they don’t flop like many of the subpar (to put it lightly) titles we’ve seen in the past, which were always so hyped before releasing. In any case, we’re eager to step back into the iconic red running shoes.

Red Dead Redemption 2 This game needs no introduction. If you were a gamer in 2010, you will no doubt be familiar with Red Dead Redemption; Rockstar’s spiritual successor to Red Dead Revolver - and if you’ve somehow avoided this classic, it’s essentially GTA set in the old West (with an astonishing soundtrack to really sell the cowboy experience. Seriously, check it out). It took the gaming world by storm upon its release and is still largely popular online, even after seven years. That’s a true testament to the game’s quality, as well as the fan’s loyalty to this franchise. A sequel, therefore, has been eagerly awaited ever since Rockstar’s early hints that one was in development. Scheduled for release later in the year for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, we’re dying for a GTA Online style experience in the atmospheric world of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Outlast 2 Enjoy hiding in lockers? Then Outlast is the game for you! Seriously though, the first Outlast game is an adrenaline pumping experience and is definitely worth checking out if you havenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t already. Releasing on April 25th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, first person survival horror game Outlast 2 features the new character of Blake Langermann; a journalist searching for his wife Lynn through the Arizona desert, after they were separated in a helicopter crash. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s rumoured that VR support may be added post launch, which is known to heighten the experience massively for the horror genre. Grab a friend, turn the lights out, and enjoy watching them scream in terror as they fail to survive. (The face cam reactions to this game on YouTube are hilarious!)

DOCTOR WHO is a cult show loved by millions. It is a testament to the global influence of British geek culture and is a unique take on the ideals of the action hero. He’s an eccentric man in a bright blue box, solving puzzles and saving the world not with a gun, but with his mind which has thrilled generations. But it has disappeared up its own bottom. Capaldi is an OK Doctor, but it’s basically like watching an angry maths teacher turn down hugs in every episode. It was an interesting look, but this isn’t the 70s. David Tennent and Matt Smith were great doctors because of their passion. Yes, Capaldi is a huge Dr Who fan, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s basically a packet of old mince pies moulded into the shape of a man.There is only one person fit to grab the sonic screw driver, and it’s Sue Perkins.

In Hell Bent, we see that Timelords can swap gender when regenerating. There is no reason why the Doctor couldn’t/wouldn’t regenerate into a female body. Unless maybe he has a load of boxers he needs to use up, or unless Daleks can only be defeated by writing your name in the snow.

Capaldi was a good break after the two high energy 10th and 11th Doctors, but we need someone cheerful again. It’s a kid’s TV show at the end of the day, and children need someone who is frankly a little less terrifying.

Perkins is wonderfully British. She combines a kind of frantic neurosis with a warmth and depth of character. She is ideally suited for the modern Doctor. Look at the energy and curiosity she has on Bake Off ; an ideal match for The Doctor’s wanderlust and exploration. P.S. SHE LOOKS GOOD IN SUITS... A prerequisite for any Doctor.

This Film does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a film... about a hobo with a shotgun. Set in a dirty, run down town ruled by an iron fisted tyrant called Drake and his legions of corrupt cops Rutger Hauer attempts to bring “justice, one shell at a time.” Visually, the film is a real treat. Bright strong colours clash with the gritty browns of a Detroit style urban sprawl. Expect blood, and lots of it. This film is grindhouse at its best. Hauer is perfectly casted, although the villains are a little one dimensional; they come across as iconic rather than hackneyed. The world of ‘Hobo With A Shotgun’ is like that of The Warriors (1979). Larger than life gangs - like The Plague stalk the streets in ridiculous costumes. The dialogue is somewhat forced in places. Watch out for a terrible speech about bears and an overacted part where someone is dragged to hell by a school bus. SPOILERS! Okay, so there is this town. It’s run by some jerk called Drake who is always getting up in everyone’s grills, having people pulled apart by cars etc. Then, the hobo (never named) rocks up into town and he’s all like “Say WHA!” He buys a shotgun from a shop which also sells lawnmowers for some reason. He goes around shooting a load of people who are jerks and all the towns people are all like “This hobo ROCKS!” And then Drake is all, “Not in my town!” and then some guys called The Plague turn up and, well I won’t ruin it anymore. But it’s a great film. Watch out for a creepy Santa, a jerk of a film maker and a lawn mowing business that doesn’t go to plan. A great film when you don’t want to think too hard. Not for the faint of heart!

Are you one of these people who can’t sit still and let the sun attack you? You’re not alone, infact you’re far too old for building sand castles and digging ‘the biggest hole possible’ now. So here’s our top 5 summer beach games!

This is a game for the people who just want to mess about. Double Plop requires no equipment, just a big hand full of stones and the sea to throw them into. At the edge of the water, the leader lobs their stone into the sea. Once the stone is mid-air, the other players then throw their stone into the sea, aiming for it to hit the water at the exact same time as the leaders’ stone. This should cause a beautiful singular splash and therefore avoiding the dreaded ‘double plop’. The thrower who best synchronises their plop with the lead stone gains a point and is the leader.

This age old classic needs no explanation. It can be played at granny pace simply for pleasure or approached in a Wimbledon final manner. It’s a true test of good hand-eye co-ordination, focus and agility. You could even start a tournament which lasts the whole holiday – The pair who reaches the highest number of hits without the ball touching the ground becomes the #BBB (Beach Bat and Ball) Champions 2017.

One for the ‘lads-lads-lads!’ - Think of it as beach tag. Designate one person to be the shark and the others stand facing the shark about 20 feet away. When the shark yells, “Come out and play in the sea!” the other people begin walking with caution towards the shark. Then when he yells, “Shark attack,” they try to run past him. Lots of laughs are inevitable here.

It’s time to channel your inner Greg Rutherford for this game. All you need is an old school sand castle bucket, long legs and a big jump! Very simple to play; each take it in turns to jump over a line of sandcastles. After each go you add one on. The winner jumps over the most.

Draw a large make-shift dartboard with your finger in the sand. Players that think they’re the next Phil Taylor stand several feet away and toss rocks, shells, or pebbles to try to get as close to the centre as possible.

Summer is coming!

Long days and sun burn patterns might be a laugh, but itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s important to keep yourself protected from the rays...

This is the most obvious one! Wear a sunscreen which is water resistant so you can be safe while swimming. Remember to re-apply every two hours and don’t forget your lips and the tips of your ears. It’s also good to apply it 30 minutes before going outside so your skin has time to absorb it. The higher the factor, the better the protection!

Accessories such as sunglasses and hats are totally in this year, which is good news for your skin. Wear them to protect yourself from the burn! And don’t be afraid to carry a ‘sun-brella’ around with you if you plan on being out in the sun for long periods of time.

Being exposed to the sun for long periods of time is obviously unhealthy and dangerous! It’s important to find shade or head inside for a while and give your skin a break. If you start feeling dizzy or nauseas, get to safety straight away!

You will find yourself becoming dehydrated much quicker when exposed to the sun - especially if you are active. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

If you have pale skin which burns easily, it’s a good idea to cover up in hot weather. Light coloured clothing will reflect sun rays away from you.

When youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re feeling thirsty, it means your body has been dehydrated for quite some time and your brain is sending you alarm bells to make you drink. Considering humans are 60% water â&#x20AC;&#x201C; being well hydrated does wonders for all parts of our bodies!

The temptation to splurge can come in many forms. The harsh reality is that it can be pretty difficult to get a handle on a budget. Here are some helpful tips on how you can save money in the fashion department for those special occasions!

There are some absolute steals which can be found in thrift stores; both for casual outings and for the events which require something a little more formal or dressy. The trick with thrifting is that you really need to go in with an open mind, because you’ll be putting outfits together left, right and centre. Something which looks really ugly on the rail can look amazing on, so you just have to be patient and open your heart and your mind up to things that may look like your grandmother’s curtains at first. You just never know; granny’s curtains may just make the most unique and beautiful statement piece.

Some people seem to look down on Tesco’s F & F brand and Sainsbury’s TU brand, but there’s no reason to! Okay, the clothes may not be cheaper, but they hold some gems inside. It’s sometimes just a case of going in and having a look. There’s also a good chance that there’ll be a discounted section; there always seems to be. Being nifty is all about being creative and thinking outside the box.

Maybe you have an old favourite clothing item just hanging in your wardrobe that you just don’t know what to do with. If so, research how to transform clothes into something new. Maybe you have an old shirt that’s way too big and just doesn’t look good. How about grabbing a belt and some scissors and cutting a cute pattern on the back? You could even buy some lace to make a cute detail on the back, or buy some patches to make it really stand out. There’s your statement piece. If it’s really too big you could wear it as a dress for a stand out look.

Online stores like ASOS and Boohoo have outlets and sales where you can buy clothes which are in clearance. The truth is, we all want to feel and look good and it’s sometimes easy to think the most expensive is going to look the best. However, there is no need to break the bank. So, next time you have a birthday or a fancy meal to go to, look on the sale rail or in a thrift shop, and always filter your online shopping to ‘low – high’, because you never know what you might find.
