Mindanao is very dear to me – Sen. Bong Go
“ I want nothing but the development of Mindanao. It is the reason why I came here. I want to emphasize to each one of you that we might not predict whatever disaster will happen, but at least we are prepared and equipped to withstand its impact,”
Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go stated during his inaugural speech of the Two-Story Evacuation Center of Barangay Mangagoy on March 30, 2023.
He added that along with his appeal
for the passage of Senate Bill 193 which aims to mandate the establishment of permanent evacuation centers in every town, he wanted to establish 322 Super Health Centers across the Philippines that will be implemented by the Department of Health. Hopefully, they will include Bislig City since they are planning to build four in Surigao Del Sur.
“Given a huge number of calamities happening in the country right now, we wanted to prioritize the safety and well-being of the people who are victims of possible,” he noted.

24th Founding Day halts at the peak of celebration
At the height of the 24th Founding Anniversary of Mangagoy National High School held at Bislig City Cultural and Sports Center (BCCSC), a sudden commotion occurred when a student was spotted throwing a plastic bottle filled with water and left the bottle laid on the ground.
When the event manager investigated the identified student, he found out that the student was just overwhelmed with so much joy since it was his first time joining a school event held in a fully airconditioned venue with colorful and
flickering lights. The student instantly asked for an apology from the teachers for his mischief.
Mr. Noel Millan, the school head apologized to the technical staff for what happened and vowed that it would not happen again. He advised all students to exhibit the desired values that the school has been teaching them.
The school bound to adhere DepEd Order No,40, s. 2012, Section 9. Duties and Responsibilities of Pupils, Students, and Learners must conduct themselves in accordance with their levels of development, maturity, and demonstrated capabilities of self-discipline,

Go gave away sports equipment such as volleyball, basketball, and bicycle to the students of Mangagoy National High School.
“As the school’s varsity player, I’m so grateful to Senator Go for giving me a branded basketball ball, so I can sustain my practices,” Emmanuel C. Lachica, a Grade 12 student enunciated.
Parents complain about ruined, odorous toilets
Parents of Grade 7 and Grade 10 learners complained at the principal’s office about the ruined comfort rooms in their buildings. Their children were forced to hold their call of nature while they fall in line with other grade levels. They appeal for a general repair so students will have a comfortable place for personal necessities.
“We need a sustainable clean and comfortable toilet for our children, and this would happen if the dilapidated comfort rooms will be fully repaired,” Mrs. Jabagat said during the parents’ meeting.
Mr. Roberto Aguaviva promised to slice the budget from the School Parents and Teachers Association (SPTA) funds for the repair of comfort rooms. On the other hand, Mr. Noel Millan promised to allocate Php26, 000.00 from school MOOE as a counterpart for the repair.
Due to strong partnership between the school and SPTA, the comfort rooms of Grade 7 and Grade 10 levels are fully repaired and functional. The parents and teachers and students expressed their words of gratitude to the school administration and SPTA for the immediate action on their request.
“I’m very happy that the school has enough functional genderized comfort rooms because my two children will no longer suffer from peeing outside,” Mrs. Analiza Canomay, Grade 7 parent said in an interview.

Matricoso Tribe appeals their rights on terrestrial domain
ENSURING IPs ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, CULTURAL WELL-BEING
Due to unfulfilled demands, Matricoso Tribe rallied against the Local Government of Bislig City for a temporary closure of Tinuy-an Falls, from December 03, 2022, until December 21, 2022, which affected local tourists and surrounding residents.
Datu Tinuy-an stated that their peaceful move is in accordance with the Indigenous People’s Rights Act of 1997, Section 2, stating that the State shall protect the rights of ICCs/ IPs to their ancestral domains to ensure their economic, social, and cultural well-being; and shall recognize the applicability of customary laws governing property rights or relations in determining the ownership and extent of ancestral domain.
According to the collection in charge of Tinuyan Falls, Carl Anthony David, Matricoso Tribe demanded for a 10% share of Tinuy-an’s income which they haven’t received yet since 2019, during Mayor Florencio C. Garay’s governance.
Enrollment rate dips to
ADMIN STRATEGIZES SOLUTION
While the number of enrollees in Mangagoy National High School constantly decreases from 600 students during the school year 2021-2022 falls off to 481 students for this school year 2022-2023, teachers and school head embarked on strategies to solve the issue.
According to the survey conducted by the teachers, the causes of school enrollment fluctuation were some private high schools offering full scholarships, the hilly terrain location of the school, students chosen strands not offered in school, and some wanting to experience new environment in private schools.
“If the enrollment fluctuation remains, it
may affect the budget of the school since the budget relies on the number of students,” Ruby B. Tuba-on, MNHS teacher uttered in an interview.
She added that enrollment fluctuation will also equate to several teachers, some might be assigned to other schools with a greater number of enrollees.
“To address this issue, we need to conduct a home visitation, and orientation to parents, including the learners. We should also impose an early enrollment campaign via online and in-person, and advertisement through radio broadcast,” Noel L. Millan, the School Head stated.
BCD SH Teachers upskill learning
ADDRESSING POST-PANDEMIC STRUGGLES
To retool teachers on the skills of teaching and learning process after the pandemic, they attended Capacity Building on the development of Daily Lesson Log /Detailed Lesson Plan and Construction of Test Questions for Senior High School Teachers on February 7, 9-11, 2023 at Highland Function Farm.
The training aims to retool teachers in different models of crafting and designing Daily Lesson Log, Daily Lesson Plans wherein learners are the direct beneficiaries of addressing learning recovery.
Furthermore, the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) results, in which the Philippines placed last in both reading and mathematics, concerned DepEd’s top officials. Teachers’ skills in Test Construction based on Revised Blooms and SOLO Taxonomy were revitalized as part of the Quality Basic Education reform plan of Bislig City Division and
a step towards globalizing the quality of basic education.
The unified Test Questionnaires and Daily Lesson Plan/Log also help the newly hired teachers to improve their teaching prowess.
During the training, high-caliber speakers discussed thoroughly the different models of lesson planning. Teachers were exposed to explicit teaching, 7Es, 5Es, 4As models, etc.
In the later part of the training, the teachers from different groups were assigned to create and present lesson plans and Test Questions based on the Table of Specifications to further deepen the teachers’ understanding.
“I am so happy to have an opportunity to participate in this training because it clarifies my doubts and supports my preparedness and readiness in teaching in which my students are the direct beneficiaries of the learning recovery program,” Isaias L. Quintana Jr., SMAW teacher remarked.
Besides, 80% of the employees are coming from other barangays, hence, they appealed that the residents of Barangay Burboanan and its surrounding sitios shall be the top priority to work in the national park.
“We are always reminding them to ask permission from us. Ten percent share isn’t enough to improve our state of living. We did not invite them to take control of Tinuy-an, they were the ones who wanted to make our place a tourist spot,” Alfredo M. Domogoy locally called Datu Tinuy-an, Matricoso Tribe chieftain enunciated.
He added that LGU agreed that the prioritized workers should be the Barangay Burboanan residents. However, they dismissed those workers and suspended their 10% share.
“Out of mercy to current workers, we decided to reopen Tinuy-an Falls operation through a winwin solution with LGU. After our peace talk, LGU decided to turn over its management to our Tribe and asked for a 20% share for the maintenance of infrastructure,” Domogoy concluded.

DIVISION DRRM TIGHTENS SCHOOL PREPAREDNESS
Schools of Bislig City Division (DRRMS) panicked about the subsequent Low-Pressure Areas (LPA) and earthquakes that occurred in the locality. Division DRR Management Service strengthens school preparedness amidst natural and anthropogenic risks and hazards through Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Symposium on January 21 this year.
The said activity was spearheaded by the Division Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) Head, Engr. Mario Lesiguez, together with the Youth Formation Division of Mangagoy National High School.
“The vision of the DepEd-Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) is to secure the safety and resiliency of all offices, schools, learners, and personnel to risks and impacts of disasters and emergencies
arising from natural and human-induced hazards,” Engr. Mario Lesiguez, Division DRRMS Head explained during the event.
Engr. Lesiguez also added that through the DRRMS program, students and personnel are protected from death, injury, and harm; learning continuity is ensured in the aftermath of a disaster, as well as education investments are protected from the impacts of natural and human-induced disasters.
“This activity is really significant especially now that climate change is really happening and it just reminds us to be safe and become catalysts of rebuilding the earth,” Gian Prince S. Jabagat, YES-O President stated.
On the other hand, Engr. Lesiguez also presented the various DepEd Orders that comprise the guidelines and other information in terms of preparedness and mitigation of natural and anthropogenic disasters.
Water scarcity resolved
LEADING TO SUSTAINABLE HEALTH
Through incorporating a Continuous Improvement Project, Mangagoy National High School allocated Php48,000 from the school MOOE to address water scarcity and create a sustainable water management system.
“Since 1999, the hilly topography of school caused the insufficient water supply. Challenges in accessing clean and reliable water sources hampered the learning environment and the overall well-being of students and teachers, and now the problem is finally resolved,” Marwen C. Guias, CI project owner, said.
Under the leadership of Mr. Noel L. Millan project on water system finally realized through the step-by-step methods, such as assessing the water consumption patterns, identifying areas
of potential sources, allocating the budget for the installation of the water system and installation process.
“Let us make significant strides in conserving water and promoting responsible water usage in the school community. Everyone must be an agent of spreading the advocacy of water conservation even beyond the school premises to provide positive impact in the environment,” Millan said in an interview with the Summit news writer.
Mrs. Honey R. Bolo, a Science teacher, said that school can boost water usage by adopting water-friendly landscaping practices. Replace water-intensive ground with drought-tolerant plants and native species that require water. Such initiative can lead to substantial water savings while enhancing the aesthetics of the school ground.

PH ID System Registration broadens in schools
To obtain a National Identification (National ID) for young people who have not yet registered in the Philippine ID System, the Philippine Statistics Authority/Philippine System (PSA/ PhilSys) Bislig Team conducted a Mobile Registration at the Mangagoy National High School on the 13th of January 2023.
“Since the Philippines is growing, as of now there is a very few people na wala pang official ID of the Philippines. The ID was created so that we can have an official ID that would serve as a proof that you are a registered civilian in the Philippines,” Ms. Reubeliza M. Estose, Supervisor of PSA/PhilSys Bislig Team stated to The Summit Writers.
She added that they conducted the mobile registration in schools of Bislig City Division to make it easier for the students to register without being absent from their classes.
“One of the reasons why we conducted this, is because when we had it in Barangay Mangagoy, we prioritized the elders especially the Person with Disabilities (PWDs) and pregnant women. So, since the in-person classes are ongoing, they came close to schools to easily identify and register the students without risking their
classes,” Ms. Estose noted.
Ms. Estose said that their operation started last Wednesday at Mangagoy North Elementary School, Mangagoy East Elementary School, and at the Mangagoy National High School.
As of January 2023, 17,000 plus residents in Barangay Mangagoy have already registered in the Philippine National ID System.
School delves into causes of students’ chronic absenteeism
Alarmed by the increasing number of students coming to school once in a blue moon, the school head in coordination with the guidance designate and Child Protection Policy coordinator called up the concerned students with their parents for a close-door conference on what lies behind their habitual absenteeism.
Health Problem:
The school has found that 8 0ut of 10 students engaged in chronic absenteeism due to mental stress, and physical ailments, from common colds and fevers to chronic conditions that confine them to their beds and hospitals.
“My son has undergone anxiety and depression when I was separated from my husband. I need to bring him to a doctor for regular check-ups until he can fully recover,” a Grade 10 single parent disclosed in an interview.
Homefront Hurdles:
Seven have been intertwined with their unstable family situations, and domestic responsibilities that disrupted their ability to attend school regularly. “I’m the eldest in the family and when my mother got to work, I need to take care of my younger siblings, Grade 8 student confessed.

Teachers, students scammed online shopping
BE WISE!
Due to a lack of knowledge, familiarity, and awareness, youth became a quarry of online scammers as they embarked and altered to modernization when it comes to technology as an effect of globalization.
Ms. Mizpha Joy A. Aclon, an Information Technology (IT) Professional and a Senior High School Teacher at Mangagoy National High School evoked the importance of equipping learners with the right knowledge to prevent them from online scams.
“At the level of the students, the best ways to avoid being victimized by scams are media and information literacy and information literacy. We must understand the devices or object we use and the information shown on different platforms and validate the information,” Ms. Mizpha Joy A. Aclon stated.
She added that in validating information from the internet, assessing the source or author and website literacy in which gaging whether the software used is credible.
On the other hand, several students were victims of online shopping scams as the product they ordered wasn’t the one delivered.
“I bought a pair of shoes from Shopee amounting to 939 pesos including its shipping fee yet the delivered product was fake and it was another type of shoes,” Alvin L. Alberca, a Grade 12 student said.
Brenth Daryll P. Mozo, a Grade 10 student experienced the same when he ordered a bag, shoes, and tumbler amounting to almost 2000 pesos however the delivered items were not the ones he ordered.
“In ordering online, we should look into the reviews of the item we intend to buy but when looking into it, we must consider the number of people who gave their ratings including the pictures. Another thing is visiting the store where you check the number of followers, the reviews of the other products it’s selling, and the number of items being sold,” Ms. Alcon highlighted.
Financial hardships:
Six admitted they have a lack of parental and financial support for food, transportation, and school projects which could further complicate the problem. “I can’t come to school regularly for sometimes we have no food to eat for breakfast and transportation allowance,” a Grade 10 student said.
Peer Pressure:
Five affirmed that bullying, exclusion, or a lack of supportive relationships with peers were some of the reasons that made students reluctant to attend school and face the negative experiences that await them. “Lagi nila akong binubully kasi hindi ako nakikisabay sa kanila,” a Grade 9 student uttered.
“By recognizing and tackling these challenges head-on, we teachers and parents should collaborate, we can strive to reclaim the presence of every student, ensuring they have the opportunity to go to school regularly, shine and succeed in their educational endeavor,” Mr. Noel Millan, school principal emphasized in his speech during the PTA meeting.
Frequent flooding hassles students, teachers
SPTA POURS 20K AS SUPPORT PROJECT
To resolve the problem of frequent flooding at the school’s entrance gate during heavy rains, School Parents Teachers Association (SPTA) shouldered Php20,000.00 as an initial project for the concreting of the entrance gate which often gives hassles to the students, teaching, and non-teaching staff.
“The subsequent swamping at the entrance gate during heavy rains is too bothering on our part. We are so grateful that at last our clamor is heard by our SPTA officers,” Daniela Mariel C. Cuiman, SSG vice president enunciated.
Mr. Roberto Aguaviva, SPTA President said
that their financial support is one of their initial projects for this school year. He added that rest assured once their fundraising is realized, they will put up another project for the betterment of the school.
“I’m so grateful for the overwhelming support of our school’s programs, activities, and projects my dear parents. Rest assured the school will be the one to finish the project in the next quarter,” Mr. Noel Millan, school head expressed his words of thanks to the SPTA officers.
At present, the project is already completed and turned over to the school head.
Conversely, Ms. Mizpha Joy Aclon exclaimed that aside from Media, Information, and Technology Literacy. It also helps to avail the sim card registration which is the Philippine government’s initiative to help Filipinos get rid of text scams. It refrains also from quickly providing personal information on any websites or forms to avoid identity theft.
Students raise concerns on the shortage of food supply in the school canteen
On behalf of the students’ organization, Keith Nico P. Ramos brought up complaints regarding the lack of food in the canteen during the afternoon session.
“We also get hungry during afternoon classes but there’s no food available in the canteen, so sometimes we go out to buy some snacks outside,” a Grade 10 Courage student remarked.
She added that the canteen in charge should supply more food for students to have snacks in the afternoon after exhausting periods of classes.
Moreover, as stated by the school guard, around 20-25 students go out of school just to buy snacks at the nearest store.
All foods are sold-out in the morning and no vendors would consign in the afternoon,” Elaine A. Lara, canteen manager said in an interview.
“Besides, the afternoon class schedule
does not include break time which is also one of the reasons why we do not supply more food,” Elaine A. Lara, school canteen in-charge responded in an interview.

UNDERTAKING 10-DAY WORK IMMERSION
To engage Senior High School learners in employment simulation and for them to apply their competencies in their specialization in authentic work environments, Mangagoy National High School Grade 12 students underwent a 10-day work immersion.
As mandated in the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 30, series of 2017, learners are immersed in actual workplaces such as workshop facilities, offices, and laboratories as a prerequisite for graduation.
The 22 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students were immersed in the Local Government Unit both in the city and barangay as well as in the Bislig City Police Station. The Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) learners did their best in the school facilities based on their specializations: dressmaking, animation, and welding.
“The Work Immersion is significantly beneficial to us graduating students, as we can practice and enhance our skills. Especially for us in the TVL track, we can get a National Certificate (NC) that we can use after graduating high school,” Willjane A. Sinampaga, an Animation student uttered.
According to Pamela Mae G. Rizon, a HUMSS student that it is fulfilling to experience actual work and apply their learnings. She said that they were able to experience writing minutes of meetings, craft public documents, etc.
“We were glad to have them in the office as they are very courageous in working and we have seen their efforts and work ethics. This is a great help for them as they will embark to a higher level of education or directly to work,” Mr. Rosendo R. Campos, MPA, secretary of the Sangguinang Panlungsod of Bislig stated.
Ultimately, the learners were not just able to envelop their skills and potential but also inculcated and enhanced their work ethics and values.

Heat Index hike distresses students’ learning
As the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports on the country’s 35 to 40 degrees Celsius heat index, students and teachers of Mangagoy National High School complained about various ill effects on to their health and academic learning.
To deal with the school’s problem of water scarsity and insanitation of its water source, Mangagoy National High School initiated the adoption of the Cauntuan River as its main water source of the institution to maintain its cleanliness.
Supreme Student Government (SSG) spearheaded Project Stewardship Tasks and Activities for Nature Development (STAND) in collaboration with other student organizations, Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) and Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD).
“This adoption does not only help clean and protect the river but also maintain the cleanliness of the reservoir used by the school and the community
of Cauntuan which is connected to the river,” Ms. Rizza Mae L. Coralat, SSG Adviser stated.
Student leaders, teachers, and parents participated in the espousal where they conducted regular clean up along the river and plant more trees beside it.
On the other hand, it is a partnership of the school and the community of Cauntuan headed by its Purok President, Joel D. Lagura, through a signed memorandum of agreement in joining efforts of safeguarding the river for the benefit of both the school and the community.
Lastly, the clean-up of the river takes place twice a month to continuously prosper its hopes and purpose of saving what is ours to keep.
In a survey conducted by The Summit Publication, eight out of 10 students appeared to experience nose bleeding, heat cramps, dehydration, and headache, while two were found to be uncomfortable and unfocused during their classes due to the heat index increase.
Shiennyl Abarca, a grade 7 student one of those who experienced nose bleeding and fainting during their school-related activities. She said that while having the activity, she suddenly noticed
that blood from her nose started to drop and eventually she collapsed.
Moreover, three of the faculty members were detected to have sudden high blood pressure and mild heat stroke that affected their work as teachers. Hence, they were advised to file a leave of absence until they can fully be recovered.
“I always inform the students and teachers to always bring their water and extra shirts with them when going to school to avoid harmful effects of the heat,” Mrs. Cherry Dela Peña, school nurse told students and teachers.
Furthermore, the school and the Parents Teachers’ Association worked collaboratively to provide a budget for the procurement of medicine, drinking water, and additional ceiling fans for proper ventilation.

Shields amid rising temperature
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported a 33-41 degrees Celsius heat index across the country on May 9, this year, which means that the public should exercise “extreme caution” due to its harmful effects on the human body.
This also means that the Department of Education (DepEd) must stretch extra protection to the vulnerable ones who are exposed to extreme heat especially, the students.
Based on health experts, children are more vulnerable to heat-related morbidity and mortality cases.
They are more likely to become dehydrated than adults because they can lose more fluid quickly. On the education’s end, the discomfort of the blazing
heat might divert the student’s attention from the class and can result in ineffective learning.
As to local context, Mangagoy National High School have some learners who experienced nosebleeds, heat cramps, and heat exhaustion during classes due

On the other hand, three of the faculty members were detected to have sudden high blood pressure and mild heat stroke that affected their work as teachers. Hence, resident physicians advised them to
file a leave of absence until they can fully be recovered.
This pressing issue is not just a shortlived problem for the institution but is certainly a health-threatening one that must be resolved instantly. Teachers and students appreciated and supported the announcement of Rosalind Vianzon, chief of the DOH Health Environment Division, recommending wearing loose, comfortable clothing and using proper protection, such as sunblock, sunscreen, or sunglasses, when outside.
Knowledge is the utmost priority of every educational institution. But when Health is at stake in their area of responsibility, they must act on it to ensure the safety and well-being of all those involved in the education sector.

Safeguarding from adolescent pregnancy
| Samashi S. Jabagat
Studies have shown that teenage pregnancy affects about 8.5% of Filipino girls in 2017 which went down to 5.4% in 2022 due to the implemented lockdown because of COVID-19.
The rising number of pregnant girls aged 15-18 and the number of births by young mothers are one of the biggest concerns as pregnancy among young Filipino girls is becoming common.
On the other hand, the number of pregnant students in Mangagoy National High School has increased from 1.5% in prepandemic time to 2.28% during the pandemic era.
Additionally, peer pressure is one of the factors resulting to teenage pregnancy as lots of teenagers indulge in early sexual behaviors due to the fact that
they feel the great need to be accepted by their circle of friends.

According to Doctor Excelente Tajo, as he spoke during Coaches Orientation, coaches and athletes need complete doses before they hurdle sports competitions.
Parents and athletes should conquer fears because they are exposed to crowded fields and venues given that the pandemic is not yet fully over.

Moreover, research shows that the lack of sex education greatly affects the issue as young people tend to be curious about having sexual intercourse with another resulting in unprotected sex. Hence, sex education should be integrated into the curriculum.
So much for that, parents should establish close communication with their children, supervise and monitor their activities, emphasize the value of education, and limit the use of social media where pornography is accessible.
School has also a great role to curb the increasing number of students getting pregnant through constant advocacy about the risk brought by pregnancy to health and one’s future.
THE FRONTLINER
Fight fears, take boosters
Under the Republic Act 7659, as amended, it is an act to impose the death penalty on certain heinous crimes. There is always a heated argument about whether it is implemented.
When Summit conducted a survey to Mangagoy National High School students, 95% of 491 disagreed with the revival of the law as it can be no different from killing in cold blood.
On June 24, 2006, President Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo during her presidency signed the order abolishing capital punishment ending the sentences of 1,230 on death row. The restoration
of capital punishment could hinge on which crimes would be covered.

vaccination safeguards the health and safety of the athletes as they get along with other athletes from different divisions specially those who fight combative sports like taekwondo, arnis, and wushu since they have direct contact with their opponents.
DOH keeps on reminding us that getting a COVID-19 vaccine is a safer, more reliable way to build protection than getting sick. It helps protect people by creating an immune response without potentially severe illness or postCOVID conditions that can be associated with COVID-19 infection. Although complete vaccination wasn’t stipulated in D.O. No.005 S. of 2023, coaches and athletes should consider preventive measures to sustain the physical and mental health of the sports delegates. be effective for criminals nor does it do anything to bring the victim’s justice to light. Besides, it also affects innocent people as studies have shown that it is also used for people with mental disabilities.
Conversely, according to research, most people feared death, so having an idea about the law, they will be discouraged to do such acts. Thus, the imposition of the death penalty also proves to be a deterrent to crimes as it prevents would-be criminals from committing such acts. Nonetheless, there are no clear pieces of evidence that the death penalty is any more effective in reducing various heinous crimes than life imprisonment given that it is no different from cold blood killing. Should the death penalty continue, then the justice system serves no purpose for it is simply an inhuman and unfair punishment.

Secretary, Vice President Sara Duterte, reported on January 30, 2023, that based on their studies, the K to 12 programs’ promise to produce employable graduates remains a promise at present because most of those who graduated from the program still need to pursue higher education to find employment.
Industry partners voiced concern that the time allotment for the program is only for familiarization and not for actual skills acquisition.

Given this report, the agency must implement an action that will address reskilling and upskilling teachers and school leaders by conducting various capacity and development initiatives.
While it may seem as if the teachers are to be blamed, the Vice President exclaimed that it is not completely a problem on their end but with the reality that the system failed them from all the burdens of backbreaking and time-consuming administrative tasks. For the learning process to be effective, there must be a collaborative effort from the agency down to the students involved. If wished to be enhanced, the system must not rob them of the assistance and adequate support that they deserve.

The proposed bill of Senator Grace Poe, Senate Bill No. 966; known as the “No-Homework Policy”, ensuring that students would not be given homework during weekends gains the support of the 90% student population of Mangagoy National High School.
The basis of the bill is studies, statistics, and scientific observations made on students all over the country, but a student’s hostile development does not solely revolve around studying and performing learning activities for the school.
Moreover, studies have shown that homework causes stress and psychological fatigue as they are already bombarded with activities in school and household chores. They

Furthermore, it also creates opportunities to practice time management for time is a finite commodity. If we are unable to manage it in wise ways, our productivity levels are going to be limited in multiple ways.
I believe it is only fair because students are already burdened in their classes. To add homework to their load will only make things harder.

It has been more than a period of three months now since this thieving in our classroom has existed and there have been many instances we lost our allowance and other personal belongings.
We have brought this problem to our class adviser, but no action has been taken so far, and it is becoming a matter of great worry.
Kindly consider this issue and highlight it to our school administration so that the authorities are alerted about the need to investigate this situation as soon as possible.

Rest assured that I will bring this problem to our administration for further investigation. However, please consider my personal advice, do not keep your valuables out of sight, suggest to your adviser to invest in a locker and a CCTV camera, and never leave things unattended.

I am fine with it because I, myself, struggle with homework—not because it is hard but because of how energy and time-consuming it is. If they think students should have homework for them to study more, why not teach them better?
- Lovely Julie A. Amador, Grade 11 - Peace
It depends on the grade level of the students. High School students are preparing for college and the employment world; thus, they should have developed more advanced study and time management skills. Homework can help them practice and refine these skills and at the same time, extend their learning beyond the classroom.

I am in favor of the No Homework Policy for it is a stepping stone towards effective learning and it can elevate the learning capacity of the students.

MIF: Break or unbreak poverty
| Mecah Krysha L. Magruban
Despite the opposing views of the mass, the government and economic managers were urged to establish the Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF), the Philippines’ equivalent of the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), due to the country’s continuing economic challenges following the pandemic.
With a vote of 279 to 6 recently, the House overwhelmingly adopted House Bill 6608. The Senate’s Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions, and Currencies is now debating SBN 1670, introduced by Sen. Mark Villar, and SBN 1814, introduced by Sen. Raffy Tulfo.
Some people have faith and confidence that the money made by the MIF will be used to fight poverty and provide long-term support for social welfare programs and projects.
At some point, many have doubts about the safeguarding of funds, they are afraid that it might be a source of corruption and unequal distribution of investments, taxes, and distribution of assets between private and
public sectors.
In order to ensure stringent protections, openness, and accountability in the operation of MIF, President Marcos Jr. requested that Congress thoroughly consider the laws and craft the best version they can.
When the Summit staff conducted a survey of 50 Senior High respondents to assess their approval of the bill, 65% favored it, 25% rejected it, and 10% were undecided.
In battling poverty, one cannot end it alone. There must be a collaborative participation within the government and the governed.
“We hope that it will be examined by Argus-eyes in great detail and with great care making it an advantage to public interest definitely to marginalized sectors where we belong,” Keith Nico Ramos, SSG president concluded.

World Bank report in 2021 indicated that 90% of marginalized Filipino children are suffering from “learning poverty” by age 10 and even learners in key stage 3, even after the wake of the pandemic. The declining learning quality is just one of the many challenges that need strengthening of inclusive education.
In the context of Mangagoy National High School, it has been a haven of inclusive education that ensures that all students have an equal opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and supportive learning environment. However, many have failed to see its purpose since some students prefer to enroll in private schools.
However, the school data showed decreasing enrollment this current school year as only 491 or 60% of students chose to enroll in Mangagoy National High School (MNHS) compared to last year when 590 students enrolled. The hilly topography,

To cater to the student’s needs of the learners, the school has offered a regular curriculum, Special Program in Journalism,
In terms of 21st-century life skills, the school’s Senior High department has offered General Academic Strand (GAS) and Humanity and Social Science (HUMSS). As to Technical Vocational and Livelihood skills, it offers Illustration and Animation NCII, Shielded Metal Arcs and Welding (SMAW) NCI and NCII, and Dressmaking and Tailoring NCII.
However, the sponsored law of Senator Loren Legarda known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 or Republic Act 10533, the implementation of the voucher program to private schools is an advantage to the indigents yet it harms the enrollment in public schools.
But if the students look at the brighter side of the inclusive education the school has offered, they will make a better choice- a choice that will cater to diversity and acceptance as well as make a greater impact that somehow lives up life to the fullest.
Old-School Calendar: Nostalgic or Necessary?
| Brenth Daryll P. Mozo
The intense summer heat resulted to incidents where children reported not being able to concentrate on learning, there are now proposals to reset the start of the school calendar to June again so that learners don’t have to suffer ill effects of the hottest months of the year.
When Summit Staff conducted a survey among students, 45 percent agreed with the old school calendar because they are not comfortable with the learning environment during summer. In fact, three teachers experienced sudden high blood pressure, three Grade 8 students collapsed in the middle of a class discussion, two Grade 7 learners have nosebleeds and the rest have high fever and respiratory diseases.
As a result, both teachers and students are struggling in their academic endeavors as the classroom
heats up around them.
Moreover, installing airconditioning units and redesigning classrooms to have bigger windows are not a solution. The best option against the heat is to revert the opening

of classes to the old-school calendar.
On the other hand, 55% of the students affirmed not to revert the old-school calendar. They prefer to suffer from the hot
season than to cut their break. They claimed that it is more suffocating to end and open classes in the same month.
Studies revealed that academic breaks, such as summer vacations or holiday periods, have long been seen as a time for children to relax, recharge, and engage in non-academic activities. However, prolonged academic stress may cause anxiety, depression, and reduced motivation. It emphasizes the significance of academic breaks in providing time for relaxation, self-reflection, and the cultivation of emotional well-being.
Whether to revert or not the school calendar, DepEd higher authority should make further studies of which is more advantageous to children’s education and well-being. Teachers at the forefront of the education system should also be considered.

That was how a French heroine empowered herself to play a critical role in the Hundred Years’ war between England and France, despite the disparity, discrimination, and violence against women in the olden times.

Studies have shown that empowering women can lead to increased productivity, higher GDPs, and improved living standards. By providing women with access to education, training, and entrepreneurship opportunities, we can create a more sustainable economy that benefits everyone. When women are empowered, they are more likely to be involved in decision-making processes and to advocate for policies that benefit their communities. This leads to more inclusive and equitable societies that are better able to address issues on poverty, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.

Building Resilient Communities
| Vicente S. Petalcorin
Natural disasters, economic downturns, and health crises are some of the dreadful adversities that Filipino communities have experienced. A resilient community is one that can withstand these challenges and emerge stronger, more united, and better prepared for the future.
The importance of resilience has been highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has tested the resilience of communities around the world. In the face of lockdowns, social distancing, and economic hardship, many communities have shown remarkable resilience, coming together to support each other, adapt to new ways of living and working, and find innovative
solutions to the challenges they face.
One example of a resilient community is the provinces of Leyte, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands when devastated by Typhoon Odette in the year 2021. The typhoon caused widespread damage and displacement,
but the community rallied together to rebuild their homes, businesses, and infrastructure. They formed partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other community organizations, leveraging the strengths of each to create a more resilient and sustainable

province. Resilient communities are not only better equipped to face the challenges of today, but they are also better prepared for the challenges of tomorrow. They invest in education, infrastructure, and social programs that promote longterm sustainability and resilience. As we look to the future, resilience will be a key factor in building sustainable and thriving communities. By investing in resilience, we can create communities that are better equipped to face the challenges of the 21st century, from climate change to pandemics. We can create communities that are more inclusive, more innovative, and more united in order to create a better world for ourselves and for future generations.
Economic Ripple Effects of Russia-Ukraine War

As a nation that has significant economic ties with both Russia and Ukraine, our country has not been immune to the effects of this conflict.

In one of the reports, CCGV 5204 was said to have gestured for the Filipino fishermen to leave the vicinity after deploying a rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB). The said incident should serve as a drive for Filipinos to fight for their rights against those who wish to rob it. Relative to this issue, the students of Mangagoy National High School have feared that if this territorial dispute will not be resolved, it casts a long shadow of emotional trauma, interrupted education, insufficient resources, cultural erosion, and lost opportunities for their education and development.
Hence, it is imperative for the government to prioritize the peaceful resolution of disputes, investing in the well-being and education of its youngest citizens. Through a concerted effort to protect children from the consequences of territorial disputes, we can build a more peaceful, inclusive, and thriving future for all.

MONEY HUNTER
“
I’d like to create stories with compelling spectacles,” says Game Master.
When the world is aging, lucky enough I was one of those who saw you waving. Knowing this could be a sunshine or a rainy view but you’re happy being you. An idea for entertainment, not a charity but could be a tool for funds called ‘Money Hunting Game’ where an influencer puts a certain amount of cash into any part of the places he chooses either in markets, national highways, or in a familiar yet secluded area, even on tubes and pipes using a tape that blends with the color of its surrounding. With patience, it is easy money for many.
Recognized as an alumnus of Mangagoy National High School, social media influencer and DepEd Admin officer Mr. Ricci Generoso started this Money Hunting game on April 2022 in which through this he earned at least 3,000 per day and he also helped people especially those who are gamed for this are in need for money. As one of the influencers, he utilizes this kind of platform to inspire and motivate. Definitely, his successors are inspired and motivated to develop their full potential.
But as the wind blows, the river flows like life. There have been struggles Mr. Ricci faced throughout his journey, many imitated his content, and the engagement of the people for his content dropped and didn’t boom for two months straight. He was criticized which is inevitable nowadays knowing people will drown you with negative vibes and comments.
Like a rainbow after the rain, he still smiled, like a flower that we thought wilted found his refuge. He began looking through the

trends, techniques, and hacks for example when to post his videos so that many would be able to watch them. As a public figure, Mr. Ricci manages to use his platform in a good way. With the coordination of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) they are planning for a fundraising using his Facebook page to attract everyone for donations as they create videos, the proceeds will go on DSWD.
Money Hunt is a game for everyone, eyeing to go beyond and to help people. Money had made a great impact on society, used to improve things, and stimulated the economy. Money has never been easier to find, you have to be persistent for it. Money hunt games could be a way to make us realize that to achieve something, determination is the key to winning. Luckily, no need to fight instead you’ll have to seek it because this is a game with cash but no need to clash.
Dear living, I noticed that your body became frail and you’re losing flesh, I can smell your tears, guilt, and despair. What caused you to fall into such deep sorrow, my friend?
Are you depressed since a girl dumped you, dear friend? Why did you end your life hanging in the rope? I witnessed it happened, and I approached you with my cold yet gentle embrace. I asked you why, and you answered, “She was supposed to be my world but she left me hanging alone in space.”
If it’s not love, did poverty paint you blue? Another lad who graduated from this school, worked at a young age just to feed his siblings, instead of studying in college. Eventually, he got tired of lifting the weight of responsibility that his broken parents left him, and he attempted to give up himself to me by jumping off a bridge. But before his poor soul would drown in my grasp, life saved him. Where he then realized that he did wrong, that he left his dear siblings waiting for him at home.
Dear living, life will not always bless you with positivity, it will offer you as much sadness as it does with happiness, for both are part of life.
But why am I telling you this? Cause frankly dear living, I, ‘Death’, have always wanted to experience what you could that I can’t. To embrace positivity, to survive negativity, and to live a glorious life to the fullest.
The eyes of a mother are a show window to her heart. Her sweet smiles and sparkling glimpse become the spring of hope and happiness in what we called home.
When the world condemns her, she still smiles like the brightest gem. For everything that we have today, we owe to a mother who passionately guides us wherever we go.
That’s Aling Rina, the most supportive and helpful parent in school. Every morning while she delivered morning snacks to our canteen, she never forgets to help us clean the ground. Her tasty native delicacies and delicious homemade viand are some of our favorite foods during recess and lunchtime. Her way of making a penny for a living is so inspiring.
Life has never been fair. It has snakes
in its ladder before you can climb for success. With hard work and trust, the road with a silver lining changed her life. Students, teachers, friends, and bystanders buy at their restaurant because of its homemade aroma and nutritious foods made with unconditional love. Now, she hits 15,000 a day, and for peak season she earns 70,000 pesos.
Like Atlas, even though she carries the world at her lowest downfall, she managed to get up and hold her head up high with kindness and humility. She has long endured for her family. However, a mother’s sacrifice has always been a treasure that her children should cherish forever, not by luxury items but by the unconditional love that money can’t buy.
The crunchy sound lingers in your being, how yummy it could be. Specifically, eggs are loaded with nutrients like vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin B6, calcium, and zinc. With every beat and twist, Mang Monik makes sure that he performed proper hygiene and sanitation. Maintaining cleanliness in his surrounding and everything he used especially the issue regarding Covid-19 is still hot like a Kwek-Kwek freshly cooked from the pot.
Once tasted, always wanted. Could it be hot and spicy, my hungry tummy craves this tasty morning snack. And if you were to ask me what my favorite food at our school canteen is, kwek-kwek of Mang Monik, I’d say with pride.
During my six years of going to our school canteen, I have witnessed how Mang Monik serves at least 500 individuals including the students, teachers, and staff of Mangagoy National High School. Apart from being the typical country’s famous street food, now becomes the go-to snack for everybody. For only 20 pesos, as the quickest to cook but savory even on how it looks like.
Kwek-kwek is a local word that rhymes with “quick.” Peeled-off and boiled medium-sized chicken egg coated with an orange batter made from flour, cornstarch, and food coloring then deep fried; appears like golden perfection made simply with love.
Kwek-kwek was criticized by some because of its quality of being oily which affects the texture and taste of the said food also too much oil is bad for the health. It has never been easy at first, but Mang Monik put an amount of effort, into addressing the problems. Even though he must quickly cook the food he now, balances the oil he applies for Kwek-Kwek.
When a Summit writer asked what his secret ingredients are, he smiled and said, “It’s my sincere love and affection that garnished my specialty. As you are all satisfied, I feel I’m dignified.”
A million thanks to this dearest food consigner that never fails to amaze us with such crispy and bursting flavor that satisfies our cravings. In expressing their commitment and dedication through the essence of cooking providing us with good quality nutritious foods like Kwek-Kwek. An appreciation for the tasty and unique kwek-kwek of Mang Monik.

Stripping a fiber of hope
Struggling with hand-to-mouth life, a hardworking lad is used to waking up at 3:00 o’clock dawn, eating his breakfast, and rushing to work in the fields with his father. He endures the heat of the sun with a bolo in his hand, planting, weeding, pruning, and weaving abaca pulps into fiber through handstripping to ensure food is on the table for his family.
Prince, a Grade 12 student, has been his father’s sidekick in abaca farming since he was 8.
“It’s not easy to be an abaca farmer. We need to go up the mountain where the abaca plants are. It’s difficult but this is the only job I know I can do to help my family, so I have no other choice,” Prince said in one of the interviews with The Summit Pen Warriors.
His family’s unstable income is not sufficient for their daily needs especially if one of his siblings gets sick. He does not have the budget for a fare allowance, so every day he comes to school walking for 3-5 kilometers with his younger siblings. When income is low, he engaged in sideline menial jobs as a carbon laborer and coco wine gatherer. Despite challenges, there is always a glimpse of hope in his heart that someday he can surpass the bumpy roads of life.

His goal to provide a better future for his family becomes his inspiration to become a successful business trader and product manufacturer of abaca fibers in the city.

“For generations, my family has relied on the bounties of the sea, passing down the sacred knowledge of fishing from father to son. Yet, in recent years, erratic weather patterns, and deteriorating fish populations have dealt halting blows to my family’s once-thriving livelihood,”Wendel said in an interview with the Summit.
The story of Wendel is a bare reminder that the challenges faced by those who rely on the sea for their livelihood extend beyond the
impulses of weather. It sheds light on the urgent need for sustainable fishing practices, the preservation of marine ecosystems, and the provision of support systems to safeguard the lives and future of fishermen like him.
While society often focuses on the achievements of the privileged, it is the story of individuals like Wendel Mabalatan that reminds us of the extraordinary strength found within those who must overcome countless hurdles on their path to success. His tale is a clarion call for equal access to education and an acknowledgment of the untouched potential within marginalized communities.

For whom do the ravens caw?
Gian Prince S. Jabagat
The night was cold and still, the atmosphere danced under the silent concert of rustling leaves as dawn prepares to break.
First, it was a shrill sound, it was a caw— a gurgling croak, and it pierced the ears of those who heard it.
The sound of silence pervaded again. A second passed, then another, and a couple of moments then. Silence, the wind, the leaves —all were bewitching. What followed next: another high-pitched noise, but this time it was different. It wasn’t a caw, it was a cry for help, of weeping, and of loss.
In both instances, a squawk was heard reverberating moments before a person died. The folks say the ravens are harbingers of death and their caws serve as bells marking the start of the death march to the afterlife.
Locale’s superstitious belief left a horror tale that the subsequent deaths of the late school principal Gil L. Bansig, and Teacher Gina Salibay Gacus in the same year were not a coincidence, but instead, a call of death. The following month, three coffins were paraded to the grave of a loving father, a caring mother, and an
affectionate brother - all were teachers’ intimate loved ones.
Elders believe ravens or crows symbolize death or bad fortune to come, but to science experts, they symbolize rebirth and starting afresh, serving as a positive sign,” says Dr. Kim.
“Debunk this superstition, there is no scientific evidence that links the raven’s caw and a person’s death, only coincidence because correlation does not mean causation. Scientifically, they died because of their ailments,” David V. Marapao, a biologist said in an online interview.
The keyboard ticks and tacks as I pressed its keys in haste. Suddenly, a high-pitched noise from the balete tree at the back of the TLE building distracted me. Oh, it’s a caw again, but this time it was different. It was much louder and much closer, so I asked myself, who’s next? Later, I was beside myself with joy reflecting that the sound was just an accusation of my false imagination.
Unfolding MATATAG agenda in school context
Carryl Mae O. Ibañez
Together, we will rally for every Filipino child. Para sa isang MATATAG na Bayan, para sa ating mahal na Pilipinas.
Stay attuned to the challenging lines that Secretary Sara Z. Duterte accentuated above during her Basic Education Report for 2023.
“In response to the DepEd secretary’s call, let us collaborate to take our little steps to improve access, equity, equality, resiliency, and well-being at our school level,” Noel L. Millan, school head emphasized during the flag ceremony.
MAking the curriculum relevant to produce competent and job-ready, active, and responsible citizens.
By crafting a curriculum that is relevant, engaging, and equips students with the necessary competencies where we can ensure the development of competent, job-ready, active, and responsible citizens who can thrive in the modern world.
“We are indeed grateful to work in a real workplace enhancing our skills in the
field we chose and be exposed to social and environmental activities related to the curriculum,” Daniela C. Cuiman, Grade 12 HUMSS student said.
TAking steps to accelerate the delivery of basic education facilities and services.
Education is a basic right that should be accessible to all. However, in many depressed provinces of the country inadequate infrastructures, buildings, instructional tools, and limited resources hinder the delivery of basic education facilities and services, depriving children of their right to quality education.
Capitalizing on infrastructure plays a vital role in providing quality education. Utilizing the meager amount of MOOE and support from the various stakeholders, the school is investing in the construction and renovation of classrooms, comfort rooms, and laboratories and prioritizing the allocation of funds for tools and equipment, the construction of catwalks, handwashing facilities, and other infrastructure deficiencies.
TAke good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education, and a positive learning environment.
Inclusive education ensures that every learner, regardless of their background or abilities, is provided with equitable opportunities to learn and succeed.
To strengthen inclusive education, the school intensified its special programs such as Special Program in Journalism and Special Program in the Arts specializing in dance, visual arts, theater arts, and music to address learners’ varied fields of interests.
For Senior High School, the school offers Academic and Technical Vocational and Livelihood Education strands to improve their life skills and personality development.
Moreover, taking good care of learners, focusing on their well-being, promoting inclusivity, and cultivating an environment are some of the school’s top priorities considering that a positive learning environment plays a vital role in the overall development of learners.
Two drops at a time sparelivesofthemany
Kicci M. Bellezas
If we look beyond human needs, water plays an indispensable role in the living world, so vital that despising it would mean depriving life. There is a reason why water occupies 70% of the earth for the existence of humanity. But when the temperature rises, the problem of scarcity of water supply arises.
Hence, what better way to get the best out of it than to expand the amount of its sources? Like a sunken ship along its voyage, the highly elevated areas may sink due to insufficient water supply, given the rising heat index and the erratic change of weather. It sunk because it has an unequal distribution of water supply in the entire city.
Indeed, one drop at a time cannot suffice the need for proper water services for the residents in the entire city. Green community water system, the newly emerging water service company has come
to Bislig City. It is a joint venture of Mindanao Cooperative Water Services Federation (MCWSF) and Hanabana Construction and Equipment Cooperative as per request of the local government to patch up the poor provision and services of Bislig Water District, the sole water provider in the locality.
The said water system offers affordable and potable water whatever the weather may be because they have high-tech water treatment facilities installed in their two main sources at San Fernando and Dungaw, Labisma. What’s good, water undergoes a sedimentation process to ensure a better quality of water and services.
“Installation might be costly, but the monthly bill is absolutely cheaper than other water companies,” Edward Avizo,” Hanabana’s supervisor said in an interview with the Summit writer.
Marwen C. Guias, teacher and water concessioner concluded that it is timely to have other sources to accommodate the needs of each household, especially during rainy and hot seasons when water may scarce.
Give support to teachers to teach better. Teachers play a crucial role in shaping the future of the learners. To ensure high-quality education, it is essential to provide teachers with the necessary support and resources to excel in their profession.
Thus, the school highlights various strategies and initiatives that can empower teachers to teach better and create transformative learning experiences through conducting LAC Sessions, peer mentoring, and sending them to various seminars, webinars and conferences. They are also strongly encouraged to take post-graduate studies, short-term courses and stay updated with the latest research, strategies, and best practices. Providing professional development opportunities, access to resources, promoting teacher well-being, elevating their teaching profession, and creating transformative learning experiences empower them to make a lasting impact on the lives of their students and communities.

Through its hollow, sun speaks hello STUNNING HINAYAGAN
Blessed and spoiled by the world, the Philippines is home to numerous breathtaking locations. It prides itself on aesthetics and the majestic. Mindanao, being the third major island, harbors beautiful places which do not lose to the other two. Here I relate my experience at one of the best places I have ever been to in my life.
Hinayagan Cave is located in the farthest ends of Bislig City, Surigao del Sur. You first need to ride a van or a habal-habal (a local transportation vehicle) to get there. In our case, we rode a jeepney to get to San Vicente, and then, we went on foot for the rest of the journey because the road did not permit our jeep to go through with its rocky terrain.
The trek was treacherous to my legs and the track was a blade to my inexperience, but the adventure was the euphoria that undermines the exhaustion. The thrill of seeing, of witnessing an object which is beyond me and my measure, excited me to disbelief. It wasn’t me who ran into the woods. It wasn’t me who tried the river. It wasn’t me but a whole unknown side of me, the hindsight of my person. Who knew that I have such passion for the marvelous and the grand?
I couldn’t help but get lost in its features. The layers told me a history of untold millions.
Eco-friendly highway
Imagine this, you’re a jeepney driver, driving an old, trusted jeepney—you call it ‘king of the road’, second to walking, cheapest option by far, and takes millions to and from work every day.
It has become a lifeline. You can call it Victor on the highway and now, the government says “Enough, it does not appeal look presentable, cause of heavy traffic congestion.” Anyway, the government is right in the sense that it is a notorious polluter, and we also want safer travel and a clean environment.
Victor should be replaced, they say, with a new, ecofriendly, energy-efficient one, an electric jeepney, but it’s very expensive. This new one, the government does not provide, it should be from your own pocket.
Our drivers are out of their wits, thinking about whether to give their jeepney up, find other jobs, or go hungry. It’s an ultimatum they face, it’s forced on them and they can’t do anything about it.
On the other side of the coin, commuters may be forced to get on a taxi or any expensive transport vehicle which makes their pocket empty and later,
empty their tummy.
Yes, modernized jeepneys are eco-friendly and safe, yet marginalized drivers are incapable. Why not grant them a loan and pay affordable mortgages for a winwin solution? Modernization is a sign of progress and a sustainable environment yet may it not be anti-poor and profit-oriented.
Can’t hide our pride
KAWA-KAWA SA AWOG
Delve into a clandestine Nirvana in Bislig that offers a unique architectural design of nature!
Come and cool off at the magnificent Kawa-Kawa sa Awog. You can see circular pools of different diameters and are all-natural. The few things that are artificial here are the slides and walkways leading to this amazing natural treasure.
Relieve your stress and woes away with the natural waters because nothing beats nature when it comes to an exhilarating environment. You won’t regret going here as this fascination ensures you a refreshing, pleasurable, and remarkable time.
The natural forms of rocks and soil seemed like a big kettle of a jacuzzi filled with cool and pristine waters flowing from the mountain. Every kettle has different forms and depths. The heart-shaped caldron is the biggest and the deepest at 10 feet depth and 15 diameters wide. There are also small with three
feet depth good for the children.
It has two diving areas where tourists can freely dive and splash into the water. They also have native yet cozy cottages at 300.00 per rent.
Kawa-Kawa sa Awog was first discovered in 2016 when Gabriel Viduya owned the property. He started to improve it by building cottages and cleaning the surrounding area without destroying its natural beauty. The residents of San Jose consider it as their valuable treasure and a show window to the world.
In fact, it has already been featured by GMA’s KMJS. This tourism destination helps augment economic growth, stimulates investment in new infrastructure, creates job and hence, increase the income of Barangay San Jose and the city as well.
It’s a perfect gateway for family bonding and friendship goals, so include Kawa-Kawa sa Awog in the bucket list of your travel destinations.
Stalagmites and stalactites were proof of the cave’s—perhaps, the world’s—perseverance to create beauty. There isn’t a draught of genius when nature is the artist. The cave was designed with a gigantic hole on top, which I imagine the ceiling caving itself, wanting whatever beauty hidden to be exposed to the world. Through the hole, the sun speaks through streaks of light, communicating, expressing; saying, “Behold! Behold beauty!”
The sheer grandness alone has left me beyond speechless, that my silence was a scream of awe and delight, and at that moment, I was the loudest and—paradoxically, the most silent creature in the cave. I know that a piece of my soul is left there and it will continue to resound for years, it will shout about the wonder of that moment of bliss and amazement. I was silent, but not soundless. And the cave, in all its magnificence, told me, “I am time made immortal.”
The departing journey proved itself to be even harder than our way there. It is simply impossible to leave when the chains of marvel anchored me as the soul of the cave whispered to my ears to indulge upon its greatness more than I should. I would definitely go there again if given the chance. Only this time, I wish the path would be a lot easier to take. Through its stunning hole, I could never forget how the sun radiated my soul with wonder and ardor.
Hidden but not forbidden
White water flows turn green, oh how mesmerizing! I sit there, adoring and it made me realize how lucky I am to get there and behold its alluring beauty.
On our two hours long drive and 10 minutes of walking on the sticky and muddy road, we finally met the inviting scenic spot which is the ‘TOGONAN FALLS’ located at Barangay Sibaroy, Bislig City Surigao Del Sur. This fall was discovered in the year 2000, at that time they must collect at least two pesos for the entrance fee but now it’s free. In addition, it is a non-government property, open to all. With its curtain of leaves, along the forest floor hides a beauty. It has a unique feature that will quickly draw your attention, if made popular it’ll boom for sure. The falls are also the source of drinking water for the community of Sibaroy and Sta. Cruz only, as they used Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipes, a synthetic plastic polymer for a clean supply of water.
In the unveiling part, the falls could be a great help to promote economic value in the city. A lot of tourists will come and visit, and new opportunities unlocked.
As I watched how the trees proudly dance, hearing how the falls as it has been the music to my ears, I realized there is indeed so much the world could offer for us and if treasured will last. The falls may be a hidden site for now because it was not as famous as the other ones, yet this hidden gem would never be forbidden.

Wonder Fiber: How is it made?
ON PROCESSING ABACA
Come all! Paper, shoes, ropes, bags, wipes, and even diapers, the Abaca has it all.
It’s a magical plant, a species of banana, which—just like coconut and bamboo, offers a lot when it comes to indigenous and convenient use. But how is it made?
They first come in harvested batches of Abaca fibers by local farmers sent to traders who will process them as the Abaca that we know, those thin strips of rope-like form.
The machine operator first presses the abaca fiber into a machine to remove the primary and secondary sheath and then pulls on it to strip the sheath. This process is called pulping. The operator will repeat this process until no sheath remains and
Plastic ban worthless
the fibers are properly stripped.
Next, comes the drying, which mostly comes with the traditional sun-drying. They dry for stripped fibers depending on the weather conditions. On good days, they take a couple of hours to dry, but the drying can span a few days at most.
The finished product is then shipped to processing companies which will work on turning them into other products.
The Abaca is essential for economic development as not only is it cheap and can be made even without the use of machines, but it is also very sustainable and durable, which means that we can save materials by using Abaca fibers as our raw material rather than plastic and rubber, and it lasts long for conventional use.
Students still use cellophane wrappers, plastic materials – survey
After the second quarter implementation and monitoring of the plastic ban in school, the Youth for Environment in Schools
Organization (YES-O) conducted a random survey and found out that 7 out of 10 students still bring cellophane, plastic wrappers, bottles, and cups from their homes or from the stores outside where they bought food.
“The worst scenario is that some students throw their plastic wrappers, cups, and bottles everywhere and they do not observe proper segregation in their classrooms,” Clint Ivan Diola, YES-O president said in an interview with the Summit.
To address the problem, YESOrganization in collaboration with Supreme Student Government (SSG) and Barkada Kontra Droga conducted a mass advocacy on the danger brought by plastic materials to their health and the environment. They invited David V. Marapao, school alumnus, and environmentalist to tackle the topic
The Worth of Nature Stewardship.

Creepy Crawlies
Are you familiar with a winged female gorgon in Greek Mythology having a head of hair consisting of snakes?
In this generation, the snakes are known as a transmitter of terror and hatred as they are visualized in several kinds of literature as devouring human flesh, like Medusa.
Meet the master snake catcher, Psymon C. Cruz, a Grade 10 student who has a great passion for sneaking and catching snakes for his pet. He considers his pet as financial luck and an animal of inspiration and fascination.
Conversely, Evangeline Linog and Anerlo Linog, popularly known as the Snake King and Queen, consider snakes as valuable and truly medicinal. For 20 years, Mr. and Mrs. Linog have been developing liniments, ointments, rubs, oils, and wine from snakes’ skin and meat extract, blood, and venom.
The couple specializes in Philippine Cobra because its blood and venom are more potent than any other Philippine snake. In research conducted by Subhuti Dharmananda, Director of the Institute for Traditional Medicine, countries like China
and India, consume snakes for medicinal uses for it is rich in antioxidants which have high levels of omega-3 fatty acid named Eicosatetraenoic acid (EPA).
Moreover, it contains natural Vitamin E that is best for healing wounds, animal bites, and snake bites. It can be used an as anti-fungal, antibacterial, cure for Eczema, a skin disease, skin allergies, skin burns, skin itching, acne, prostate cancer, vaginal itching, and erectile dysfunction.
“Its measurable health effects are licensed by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD),” they expounded. Now you know the vital role of a snake to humans. It may be harmful since it kills but useful for it heals.
Ultimately, the more you learn about snakes the more you learn they are implausible creatures worthy of our respect and protection since they are important components of the natural environment to maintain a high level of biodiversity which is essential to all life on Earth. We can also adapt to live safely with these creepy crawlies.

including endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), which may cause infertility, obesity, diabetes, prostate or breast cancer, thyroid problems, and increased risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke, among others,” Marapao said.
He added that plastic is a major contributor to both land and water pollution. When it's not properly disposed of, it can harm marine life in our oceans and rivers. It can also end up in landfills, where it takes centuries to decompose.
The next strategy that the student organization has initiated is organizing a joint Hipos-Basura Brigade that will monitor proper classroom segregation. The monitoring shall be done during the lunch break and after the last period in the afternoon. The classroom that is caught not following the proper segregation shall be fined Php30.00 as stipulated in their joint resolution.
“We hope that this strategy will work out to impose discipline among students and minimize the use of plastics at the campus,” Mary Grace Delima, YES-O adviser said.
Pruning the fruit trees in the backyard, Vinn, a Grade 12 student spotted a wounded reptile crawling on a dead branch of a balete tree in the backyard. Born as a pet lover, Vinn’s heart bled seeing the fainted animal that looked breathless. He rescued the little creepy and applied malunggay extract to heal its wounded tail. It was his first time seeing that kind of animal, but his heart had compassion for this endangered creature.
To learn new things about the crawling animal, he googled it and finally learned that the animal was a green iguana scientifically known as Iguana iguana – a treeliving animal, also known as the American iguana, mostly herbivorous species of lizard of the genus Iguana.
To save its life, the lad fed the reptile with green leafy vegetables and continued to treat it with green medicinal extract until
the animal has fully recovered. He plans that by the time it will be fully cured, he will allow it to return to its natural habitat to continue sustaining the balance of the ecosystem.
Green Iguana has been involved in the illegal international pet trade between 2001 and 2008 at around 4.5 million individuals from Southeast Asia.
Since Iguana is an exotic pet listed as endangered in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the young boy is on the right track to save the green creature.
“Let us vow our commitment to protect the country’s wildlife species, especially the endangered ones,” Vinn concluded.

OVERFLOWING MONSTER
“Pitter patter pitter patter,” it’s the sound of an approaching heavy shower. While most people would either be glad or gloomy, we who reside at the riverside are painted with fear and worry. Worried about the coming of a muddy monster, which seeks to destroy, rise and create disasters. With its filthy bite, it inflicts diseases, with its flowing body, it devours villages.
Technically, during a heavy downpour, many of us would be tucked in our warm beds or maybe resting on a couch while sipping on a mug of delicious hot chocolate. Unfortunately for some people, especially my family who dwells along the riverbank, during a heavy downpour, we have no time to rest and slumber.
Every time the rain meows and barks, my grandma and I would be expecting flood, the monster’s arrival. Thus, we have no choice but to stay awake and lift our strengths up in order to elevate our
appliances and cabinets to a higher place, this is to keep them away from the devouring reach of the flood that can damage them.
After saving our furniture, we would save ourselves too from the venomous bite of the overflowing beast, a bite that inflicts illnesses such as flu, dengue, and leptospirosis. Though once the skies open up again and the sunshine melted the flood, we are left with a hassling amount of rubbish and mud for us to clean.
Floods can be as destructive as a tsunami, they will cause wreckages to anyone’s property. They are a product of human garbage clogging the drainage systems, and when heavy rainfall comes, water is unable to stream properly, causing it to overflow.
“In order to prevent flooding, people need to learn to dump their wastes properly and tidy the clogged canals, the government should also take part by pushing construction for better and bigger drainage systems. Cause if you think about it, if people are just responsible with their trash, there would be no overflow,” Mrs. Mary Grace G. Delima, MNHS YES-O Adviser, enunciated.
To conclude, if we will continue to choke the natural waterways and drainage systems with our wastes, we will eventually be abiding in the stomach of the monster that will devour the land where we have caged it—thus also proving that floods are just the embodiment of humanity’s ignorance to the wellbeing of Mother Earth, making us the monsters with overflowing arrogance all this time.

Durian is a fruit that often divides opinions - some people love it, while others can’t stand its pungent odor, unique taste, and difficulty in opening it. However, what many people don’t realize is that durian also offers a range of health benefits that make it worth considering as part of a balanced diet.
One of the most significant health benefits of durian is its high nutritional content. Durian is a rich source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin B6, potassium, and magnesium. These nutrients can help boost immunity, support healthy bones, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.
Moreover, durian contains antioxidants that protect the body against oxidative stress, which can contribute to aging and disease. The fruit is also high in fiber, which can promote digestive health and help reduce cholesterol levels.
Another benefit of durian is its potential to boost energy levels. Durian is rich in carbohydrates, which the body uses for energy. Additionally, durian contains thiamine, a B vitamin that plays a crucial role in converting food into energy.
While durian is high in calories and sugar, it can still be a part of a healthy diet when consumed in moderation. For those watching their weight or sugar intake, it is recommended to consume durian in smaller portions or as part of a balanced meal.
Durian is a fruit that may have a polarizing reputation, but it also offers a range of health benefits. From its high nutritional content to its potential to boost energy levels, durian is a fruit that is worth considering as part of a healthy diet. So, next time you come across durian, don’t be put off by its strong
If you love growing veggies and you are living in a megacity, don’t struggle with how to achieve a finefettle plant. There are many ways in planting without soil, and it’s proven to be very efficient by many vegetable growers in highly urbanized areas.
Well, get to know the flight of hydroponics during and postpandemic era. What’s more interesting is that you can plant whatever you want but on water instead of soil and for sure your plant will grow as healthy as it could. Let me teach you how to make a low-cost hydroponics system.
Step 1: Cut the top four inches (10 cm) off of a plastic bottle. Do it finely.
Step 2: Jab a hole through the bottle cap using a screwdriver or whatever is available in your kitchen.
Step 3: Feed a piece of thread or twine through the hole in the cup.
Step 4: Fill the bottom of the bottle with water, you can also add the organic-nutrient solution. Not too much and not too less, because everything that is more and less is no good.
Step 5: Place the top of the bottle upside-down so the twine is mostly submerged.
Step 6: Put the growing medium and your seeds into the top of the bottle.
You got it done, hydroponics for all. A piece of cake, right? For sure your plant will grow even if you hang it on the wall, then you can serve veggies every day for a strong and healthy mind and body.

Smartest learning buddy of the century
Do you want to learn more independently? Get to know the brightest partner that will help enhance your potential for learning!
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significant implications for the education sector, particularly in terms of how it can enhance and personalize the learning experience for individual students.
One of the most significant advantages of AI in education is its ability to adapt to the learning needs and styles of individual students. Adaptive learning systems can tailor educational materials to the needs of each student, allowing them to learn at their own pace and in a way that suits them best.
This is particularly important in a classroom setting where students
have varying learning abilities and preferences. AI-powered educational tools can also provide immediate feedback and assessment, allowing students to track their progress and identify areas for improvement. This not only helps students to stay motivated and engaged in their learning but also enables teachers to identify and address any knowledge gaps or misconceptions more quickly and effectively.
Furthermore, AI can be used to augment traditional teaching methods by providing additional resources and support for both students and teachers. For example, AI-powered chatbots can provide students with instant answers to their questions, while virtual tutoring systems can provide personalized guidance and support outside the classroom.

DOOM OF HIV/AIDS
Drawing near to the illicit behaviors. Behold social media and the peer pressure opening the cabinet behind innocence. Young Filipino aged 19 years and below were diagnosed with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Noting access to any online applications is one of the hundreds of factors that exposed young individuals to this risky sexual behavior.
According to the latest update of the HIV/Aids Registry of the Philippines, 79 adolescents aged 10-19 years acquired infection through sexual contact; as of January 2023. Parents and teachers are uneasy, they blamed social media as the root cause of this.
As time goes by, our generation had prided itself on technological advancement and trends. They are under the influence of social media and online applications. Being drowned in what is seen on it. That’s why there is a shift in societal values in which a group of people; the community follows an impulse.
For the month of January, there were 1,454 new HIV cases. It is very alarming that youth HIV/Aids awareness has dropped to 78 percent from 95 percent in 1994. Twitter, Facebook, Whats App, Messenger, Telegram, and OMEGLE are the few technological applications that youths can freely access. Either to communicate with their loved ones or meet virtually with strangers about whatever their mind conceives.

Rather, it is a tool that can be used to enhance and personalize the learning experience for students. But teachers remain an essential component of the education system, providing guidance, support, and inspiration to their students.
Overall, the use of AI in education has the potential to increase the learning capability of learners by providing personalized and adaptive learning experiences, immediate feedback and assessment, and additional resources and support. Bliss of the blessed THE RISE OF IMPERIAL
The family of Fabaceae, behold “Falcataria falcata”- species of fast-growing tree is commonly used for reforestation, erosion control, source of wood, pulp, construction, and most especially by the paper industry.
Particularly, it’s one of the trees that greatly contributed to jobs and expansion through building companies on the economy of Bislig City. Paper Industries Corporation of the Philippines (PICOP) used Falcata as one of the hundreds of woods to operate their fully integrated pulp and paper mill in Southeast Asia in 1963.
However, PICOP’s productive years were beleaguered by both external and internal problems like natural calamities, the national economy, and political instability were a few of the reasons that forced PICOP to shut down in 2006. Now, here comes Imperial Wood Industry, a local producer of plywood production located at Purok-4 Paclap, Barangay San Vicente 1, Bislig City.
Providing the best quality plywood products using only Falcata trees, the company has allocated 50 kilos to the 700 households of barangay San Vicente which shared 40% tax out of their revenues.

REFLECTION ON THE EFFECTS OF TIKTOK ON EDUCATION IN THE PHILIPPINES
TikTok is a popular social media platform that has taken the world by storm. With its easy-to-use interface and an endless supply of entertaining videos, it has become a favorite among many people, particularly the youth. However, there has been much debate about the effects of TikTok on education in the Philippines.
On the one hand, TikTok can be a valuable tool for learning. There are numerous educational videos on the platform, covering a wide range of topics, from math and science to history and culture. These videos are often presented in an engaging and entertaining way, making it easier for students
to understand and retain information.
Furthermore, TikTok’s algorithm ensures that users are shown content that aligns with their interests, which means that students can easily find videos that are relevant to their studies. However, there are also concerns that TikTok can be a distraction for students. With so many entertaining videos available, it can be easy for students to spend hours scrolling through the platform instead of studying. Moreover, some of the content on TikTok is not suitable for younger audiences, and there have been instances of students accessing inappropriate videos while using the app.
Another issue is the potential for misinformation to spread on the platform.
With so many users creating and sharing content, it can be difficult to verify the accuracy of the information being presented. This can be particularly problematic when it comes to educational content, as students may be learning incorrect information. The impact of TikTok on education in the Philippines is a complex issue. While it has the potential to be a valuable learning tool, it is important for students to use the platform responsibly and verify the accuracy of the information they are learning. Additionally, parents and educators should work together to ensure that students are not spending too much time on TikTok and are using it in a way that supports their academic goals.
Falcata seeds and at least 8 to 10 years they are considered fully grown and ready. In this era where some trees gave up supporting us, Falcata caresses us with love. Trees attract the populace in the community due to their suitability. Having an income while protecting the environment-our kingdom. This is bliss and we are blessed to have this.

Greening the World
PERKS TO SUSTAINABLE LIVING
What should human do as an agent of a sustainable environment?
Conserving natural resources and protecting ecosystems to support health and well-being, now and in the future are man’s great responsibility for a sustainable environment. From renewable energy sources to eco-friendly products, here’s how we can work towards a more sustainable future.
Renewable Energy Sources
One of the most effective ways to reduce our carbon footprint is to switch to renewable energy sources. Solar, wind, and hydroelectric power are all clean energy sources that can replace fossil fuels. These sources of energy are not only better for the environment, but they’re also cheaper in the long run. By investing in renewable energy, we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and move towards a greener future.
Eco-Friendly Products
According to environmentalist and Ateneo de Davao University professor, Ms. Denisse Kate R. Almanon, another way to impact the environment is by using eco-friendly products. From reusable water bottles and plastic straws to wooden cups, bamboo toothbrushes, and straws; from synthetic sanitary napkins to organic ones are many eco-friendly alternatives to common household items. These products are made from sustainable materials that are biodegradable or recyclable, reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. By choosing eco-friendly products, we can reduce our environmental impact and help to conserve natural resources.
Reducing Waste
Reducing waste is another important aspect of sustainable living. This means using less packaging, recycling whenever possible, and composting food waste. “By reducing the
Horror Tale of Plastic Ocean
Every time I strolled with my family and friends along the stretch of Mabakat Beach, I could see the floating plastic bottles, cups, straws, junk food wrappers, used diapers, pieces of cellophane, and other plastic debris that rushed back and forth to the shore.
It pinched my heart to think how plastic wastes harm the environment and biodiversity, especially marine life. I started to recall the article I read on the internet that over 300 million tons of plastic are produced every year for use in a wide variety of applications, and 80% of all marine debris found from surface waters to deep-sea sediments cause injuries and deaths of marine species if eaten or ingested accidentally.
I also remember the lecture of Ms. Denisse Almanon, an environmental advocate and professor at Ateneo de Davao University that plastic pollution is a widespread problem affecting the marine environment, threatening ocean health, marine species, food safety and quality, human health, and contributes to climate change.
“When marine organisms ingest plastic debris, toxic chemicals enter their digestive systems and accumulate in the food web over time. The transfer of toxins between marine species and humans through the consumption of seafood has been identified as a health risk,” Miss Almanon explained.
If our city government provides more funding for research, innovations should
amount of waste, we produce, we can reduce the strain on our natural resources and help to conserve energy. We can also reduce the amount of pollution in our air and water by properly disposing of hazardous materials and electronic waste,” Almanon added in an interview. Conserving Water
Water is a precious resource, and we need to work towards conserving it. This means reducing water usage in our homes, fixing leaky faucets and pipes, and using droughtresistant landscaping. We can also conserve water by using water-efficient appliances and fixtures, such as low-flow showerheads and toilets. By conserving water, we can help to preserve this vital resource for future generations.
In conclusion, sustainable living is crucial for the health of our planet and our future. By investing in renewable energy sources, using eco-friendly products, reducing waste, and conserving water, we can make a difference in our environment. We all have a responsibility to act and work towards a sustainable future. Let’s do our part to green the world and secure a brighter tomorrow.
be made available to provide policymakers, manufacturers, and consumers with the evidence needed to implement technological, interactive, and policy solutions to address marine plastic pollution.
Home, school, and community need to work together with the government to go beyond waste management and consider the whole lifecycle of plastic products; from design to infrastructure, and household use as well as conduct massive advocacy to consumers and society to shift to more sustainable consumption patterns to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic waste materials. This joint effort can help rescue our oceans loaded with plastic debris. Let’s join the journey to zero plastic waste!
From Waste to Wealth
Tiny engineers below our feet have emerged as startling defenders in agriculture. According to experts, these tiny organisms have a significant capacity to break down organic waste into useful humus—an essential ingredient for healthy soil.
Since the school was founded, it has been a perennial problem to grow flowers and vegetables in the garden because of its rocky and unfertile soil and insufficient water supply. This difficulty motivated the school to embark on vermicomposting initiated by the Science and TLE teachers. They
taught the students the steps and the process of vermicomposting and finally learned the significant impact on soil fertility, and waste management.
The students have learned that earthworms' burrowing activities enhance aeration and drainage, fight soil compaction, and promote the formation of stable aggregates. These dynamic underground engineers increase the water-holding capacity of soils, reducing irrigation needs and mitigating the effects of drought.
Moreover, the rich humus content in vermicompost acts as a slow-release fertilizer, supplying essential nutrients to
plants over an extended period.
“Thanks for sharing the knowledge in vermicomposting Ma’am. After 60-90 days, I harvested my small vermicompost and sold it at Php1,000Php1,200 per sack. Aside from earning Php3,000 -Php4,000 a month, we also have a bountiful harvest on the farm,” Zander Payosing, a Grade 12 student testified.
As we embrace the power of earthworms and utilize their outstanding abilities, we unlock a greener, and more thriving future for agriculture—that’s how waste turns into wealth.

Health Institutes Lessen Sports Risks
In the recent Bislig City Division Sports Athletic Competition (DivSac), some combative athletes got injured during the competition and as a response from the hired rescuers from different health institutes, they swiftly took care of the incident by delivering an ambulance to the venue. As for me, it can be viewed that the facilitators during the event were prepared for any unexpected accident.
Sports injuries have become a growing concern in recent years, with many athletes suffering serious injuries that have a long-term impact on their health and well-being. The government has a crucial role to play in addressing the issue and ensuring that athletes are protected whenever there’s an incident. “As from what I have noticed during the DivSAC,
Kicci M. Bellezas
the health initiatives are present in every sport, especially in combative categories like Wushu, Pencak Silat, Arnis, and many others. The injured athletes got proper medical treatment and they’re brought to the nearest hospital,” Marwen C Guias, a pencak silat coach.
In conclusion, sports injuries are a serious issue that requires a coordinated effort from governments, sports organizations, and athletes themselves. By investing in research, establishing safety standards, promoting education and awareness, and providing financial support to injured athletes, the government can help to ensure that athletes are able to compete safely and enjoyably while guarding them and minimizing the risk of serious injury.
