Southern York County School District is a sponsor of the National School Meals Program. Your family may qualify for free or reduced meals. Information is enclosed and questions can be directed to Debra Baker Koller, Administrative Services at 235-4811, extension 7210. Access to your child’s cafeteria account is available online through a program called My School Bucks. By using this program, you are able to view transactions and balances in your child(ren)’s cafeteria account(s). You are encouraged to make deposits online. Information is enclosed. If you have any questions related to this program, contact helpdesk@sycsd.org. Balances from the prior school year were transferred to this new program. If there was money in your child’s account or your child’s account was negative and not paid, it will show in the new program for the 2015-16 school year. The My School Bucks login page is located at the District’s website (www.sycsd.org) under “Online Tools” – “Parent Portal.” Your access to My School Bucks is available throughout the school year, seven days per week, twenty-four hours per day. Click on the My School Bucks icon and follow the instructions. Families create their login information. See information enclosed in this mailing. We encourage you to use the My School Bucks program, but cash or a check are also accepted at check out. This is how the program works:
All students are required to enter their student ID number for any type of transaction in the school cafeteria. For your information, your child’s student ID number is found on the green emergency care information form, which you will receive in a separate mailing. Our staff will assist students who forget their ID number or who have difficulty using the system. Our experience is, however, that students catch on very quickly. On the back of this letter is a copy of the cafeteria keypunch pad. Kindergarten and elementary students are encouraged to practice on this pad.
When the student ID number is entered, student account information appears on a touch screen in front of the cashier. The cashier views the student account balance and a photo ID of that student. Dietary restrictions will be placed on a student account with a note from a doctor. Parents and/or guardians may also set a daily dollar amount or place restrictions on the account by using My School Bucks or contacting the school cafeteria. The system tracks all sales to that account for the day and blocks any sale that exceeds the daily limit.
Online deposits are highly recommended before the first day of school. However, if you would prefer to place money on your child’s account on the first day of school, you may send cash or personal checks along with your child. Place your child’s account deposit in an envelope. Write the child’s name, their student ID number, and the amount on the envelope. Personal checks are preferable to cash deposits. Make checks payable to SYCSD FOOD SERVICE. A deposit envelope for future deposits will be sent home with your child on the first day of school.
Cafeteria menus and nutritional information are located on the District’s website (www.sycsd.org) under “Cafeteria Menus/Info.” “What is a Meal” (a description of the school lunch and costs) information is also included on the website. In addition to meals, students may purchase a la carte items. A la carte pricing is posted on the District website. Although it is discouraged, students are allowed to carry a maximum overdraft of three meals. At three overdrafts, elementary students will continue to receive lunch and accounts will be charged for lunches purchased. Borrowing is not allowed for a la carte items. Meal credit accounts are District obligations; report cards will be retained pending satisfaction of outstanding balances. We appreciate your participation in the school breakfast and lunch programs. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or special needs. Sincerely Yours,
Bruce Thens Bruce Thens General Manager of Dining Services 235-4811, ext. 4245 bruce.thens@sycsd.org
