Where Are the Jobs? The ManpowerGroup, a national job placement company, reported on May 29, 2012 the results of its annual talent shortage report. It revealed that 49 percent of US employers are experiencing difficulty filling mission-critical positions within their companies. According to more than 1,300 US employers surveyed, these are the 10 positions that go unfilled because too few skilled workers are available: Skilled trades Engineers IT staff Sales representatives Accounting and finance staff Drivers Mechanics Nurses Machinists/Machine operators Teachers The survey shows that the most common reasons employers give for having trouble filling jobs include: lack of available applicants, applicants looking for more pay, and applicants lacking experience. Career Solutions Publishing note: Employers look for any type of experience, such as co-op programs, internships, volunteer activities, summer jobs, part-time jobs, and casual work that shows responsibility, dependability and integrity. Casual work includes babysitting, lawn mowing, and other short-term activities. ****** Career Headlines is a complimentary, weekly update on career-related topics from Career Solutions Publishing.
