Dear Friends, On behalf of everyone who works at Swedish, welcome to the 29th annual Celebrate Swedish. Tonight will be a very special evening for me, because this is my first Celebrate Swedish. Since becoming Swedish’s Chief Executive last November, I have been gratified to discover, over and over again, how much this great institution means to our supporters, and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible tonight. One of the most exciting things about my new job has been getting to know so many extraordinary Swedish caregivers. The key to any successful health care system is great doctors, nurses and staff. We are very fortunate to have thousands of skilled and dedicated people who work tirelessly to provide the high quality care that Swedish stands for. In a very real sense, it is these men and women we are celebrating tonight, and I know you join me in thanking them and in honoring their work. With the serious financial challenges that confront our national health care system, Swedish has come to depend more than ever on the continued support of our generous donors. You have shown, year in and year out, that you understand what it takes for a nonprofit institution like ours to remain a strong resource for the community and region. As in the past, the money raised at tonight’s auctions will be used to support care at Swedish for patients who are unable to pay for it themselves. I can’t stress too strongly what a difference these funds make in people’s lives, and I urge you to bid generously on the wonderful auction items in this catalog to help us address this need. Our 2014 Fund-A-Need focus is the Robert and Jean Reid Family Innovative Therapeutics and Research Center at Swedish Cancer Institute, which will be built on the 4th floor of the Arnold Pavilion. This groundbreaking facility will enable Swedish to provide “personalized medicine” to cancer patients through state-of-the-art genomic and molecular approaches to identifying targeted therapies for treating each patient’s unique cancer. You will hear a lot tonight about this exciting and very promising approach to cancer treatment, and I hope you will help us make Swedish a national leader in this important area. The Event Chair for Celebrate Swedish 2014 is Molly Otter and our Honorary Chairs are Lucius & Phoebe Andrew. These active and loyal Swedish supporters, along with many hundreds of other volunteers, have been planning and preparing for tonight for months. We are extremely grateful to them for the gift of their time and energy. I also want to thank Wells Fargo Bank, our Presenting Sponsor for the 17th consecutive year! They and our many other generous and public-spirited corporate sponsors— you can see their names in this catalog—are a key factor in Swedish’s success and in the success of this event. I hope each of you has a wonderful time tonight at Celebrate Swedish 2014. Your support for Swedish sustains us and makes us very proud. Tony Armada, Chief Executive 3

Auction Rules 1. All sales are final. There will be no exchanges, refunds or extensions on items except where specified. In the event of a dispute, the decision of the Auction Manager will be final. 2. Please pay attention to all conditions, restrictions and expiration dates, on auction items and services. Many auction packages require the buyer to coordinate with several different donors. If a product or service is not available at the time of redemption, it is not the responsibility of the Swedish Medical Center Foundation to reimburse the bidder for the item. 3. No refunds will be allowed on travel packages for canceled tickets or accommodations. Air travel will be provided by airlines as stated, even though prices may vary from the stated value. Unless otherwise noted, upgrades, stopovers, circle trips, stand-bys and open returns are not permitted. 4. All travel reservations included in the auction are subject to availability and certain restrictions and blackout dates may apply. Unless otherwise noted, travel must be completed by April 26, 2015. All reservations need to be made at least 90 days in advance. 5. Successful bidders for the Live Auction must sign a bidder form. At that time, they should verify that the bid number, amount and item are correct. A signature constitutes a legal contract to buy. 6. In the Silent Auction, please write your bid number on the sheet associated with the item. If an entry is not legible, the next legible entry will be used. A guaranteed bid wins the item; in the event there is none, the highest bid wins. 7. The Swedish Medical Center Foundation reserves the right to withdraw any item from the auction. 8. Property is sold as-is and the Swedish Medical Center Foundation neither warrants nor represents, and is in no way responsible for the accuracy of description, authenticity, provenance or condition of the property. No statements contained in this catalog or made orally at the sale or elsewhere shall be deemed to be such a warranty, representation or condition of the property. Items depicted in the live item presentation are for illustrative purposes and may not be the actual auction item.
Payment for items must be made in full the evening of the auction. We accept cash, checks and all major credit cards. If you are unable to take your items with you this evening, they will be available for pick up from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Swedish Medical Center Foundation office. Fund-A-Need Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI) has recently committed to extending its approach to treating cancer by adopting a heightened focus on patients’ genetic makeup and the molecular characteristics of their tumors. This approach to cancer care is often called “personalized medicine.” It is widely believed that, in the next decade, this approach will transform cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment.
The Wall of Hope located on the 5th floor of the Arnold Pavilion.
In 2015, SCI will continue its long tradition of early adoption of innovative and promising cancer treatments by establishing the Robert and Jean Reid Family Innovative Therapeutics and Research Unit (Reid ITU) at Swedish Cancer Institute. This new 12,000 square foot facility will occupy the entire fourth floor of the Arnold Pavilion and will contain dedicated spaces and resources that will lay the founda-tion for a broad program of personalized medicine and personalized medicine research at Swedish.
