being human on this day, a human-built environment surrounds us. it is hard to deny this kind of truth that “Architecture ” affects our daily lives. In this 21st Century, many challenges will be hard to counter, like climate change, the lack of a food supply chain, and the lack of notion of using resources to form architecture. from all of these samples that have shown, it is hard for architecture to response tho all these kinds of aspects. But there's a quotation from a “human scale documentary” That said “We shape our city and then our city shapes us” From this point of view it is clear that architects hold the responsibility and authority to shape the quality of life. and of people in it and people surrounding it, for those who hold the authority in shaping life .we should be looking back to the process of making architecture reinterpret and prioritize from balancing between the aesthetic of beauty and the performance of the building to the integration of the aesthetic of beauty and performance of building [ Generative design]. so my intesrest topic is how to integreated the process of evaluation of performance and evaluation of beauty in desing by using computational analysis and simulation.

this building was originally only a garage. Because there is already a plan to design another o ce in the project area which is located in a garden and fruit eld. But when discussing the budget for the construction of two buildings, it was said that Gather it into one house and used it as a guest room, social room, o ce, and a garage that can accommodate a liftable parking lift. Small warehouse that can t a 2-ton crane The design team therefore considered that with this complex-looking function, The function must be designed to be simple and allow for easy additions and expansion. It's like a building that is a toy for the owner that allows for expansion. Try various uses.

so the idea of adaptability, extension, and rearrangeable by the owner and design team affects the building by the use of material structure and facade itself. like using steel as the main structure for easy extension of the office unit [ which is located on the second floor ] and for the aspected of adaptability, Loosed furniture and open plan planing are used. for the employees to move freely in the space and be able to communicate with each other and to make the space more comfortable we imply a large window to each side of the building for employees to look out to the garden around the building and let the light flood into the space for less use of artificial lighting but this concept of creating large window and using in sunlight in Thai context is also crucial cause of heat and energy that come into space which affected the air condition to hard working so the Designing of building envelop is a crucial part for designing human comfort and tectonic to use in the building

the facade is making for preventing sunlight from the west side [ which is the hottest during the day ] beside the criteria for protecting building from sunlight but it should provide the employee to look outside clearly and create ventilation to transfer heatout of this layer so Pattern and tecnic are more concerned here

Detail drawing from the design process, we design a facade to rotate to a specific angle for the criteria we have set . but to make it more appropriate for artisan and contractor to deal with with this facade so we have to design the process and new connection joint to easy to installation and be able to

For designing for each Accommodation unit and Masterplaning to be an o -grid farm stay. we have to analyze the site to nd the site assets such as the underground water supply that can be used, the cycle of return water to ll the underground water, and also look for resources to construct the accommodation unit. So after the analysis, we came up with the idea of using wood from existing trees on site to construct a unit.

to design an accommodation unit Our design team was assigned by the owner and project manager to integrated design based on each Feng shui system and Thai Buddhist planning system since schematic design also challenges the design team to integrate two systems of planning and criteria for designing [ which you can see the red grid and hatch area showing that is a bad area to put the bedroom or living room to be there ] for interior design which we propose Scandinavian interior style with wood and white color plaster and loose furniture to easy to rearrange the area

when we choose wood wall the most crucial part is that we have not to let the wall wet or in a high moisture atmosphere bathroom’s wall is the most vulnerable cause high moisture will cause damage to the wall to prevent we use dry bathroom system and use Shower cabinet to water and moisture not directly touch the wall

working with wood and concrete construction is also quite the challenge here because we have to design the process of construction to be a prefabrication system for fast construction and prevent wood from being damaged, wall layering to prevent heat and moisture from coming from using wood, and connection of wood, and detail connection between wood edge and concrete [ if wood and concrete attach directly to each other the moisture from concrete will softening and fungus will growth which cause wood to be damage which lead to water leak and insect to come

PROGRAM

For this project, we are assigned by the owner to design the concept for a small retreat 5 unit with event space and cafe that can do some events like mini-music festivals or mini-wedding ceremonies but everything that is going to happen there should have less touch or not change the terrain of the site. which is kind in contrast to what requirement of the owner [ to build the environment while not touching the environment ]

so our design team process, instead of designing the unit we focus on nding the potential of the terrain and site

slope analysis to find the potential location for each function and find the make path to each unit with the shortest path and comfortable to walk by using grasshopper to analysis slope and use Galapagos to find the shortest and slope less path way parking

for less building of the architecture, we designed the program of event space merged with the public toilet and reception area to minimize the footprint of the building. we design event space and reception over the toilet for easy to construction and load transfer. this event space architecture was designed to be for wedding ceremonies so the design team attended to design it to look more like a pavilion which gives a feeling of lightness and elegance but should not be too elegant it has to be rough and bold for a music festival to occur there.

Supan project

Supan timline

I called this project a re-born of Thai vernacular. This project is located in Supan Province [Song Pi Nong], Thailand. For the beginning of this project, the owner of this house desires to disassembly her old house [ which is 140 years old in Thai wood vernacular architecture ] and construct on new location but the sizing of the new location site is not large enough thus old age of the house that some part and some element of the house got damage which lead to not be able to build on new location on the same construction technic so after investigate the old house and the context of site [which usually had ooded for 4 mount every years]. Our team decided to propose a new architecture to adapt knowledge and not forget to adapt the structure and elements of the old house to make as most as appropriate to the new context and requirement which led this project to be a housing project based on a design-research methodology to understand and bring the sense of place and nostalgic sense back alive.

140 years old Thai’vernacularhouse vernacular study

hai vernacular architecture always nds a way to transcend ood and heat which is why the building is elevated above the ground and has long eaves for more shade to the building and to prevent the building from the ood. This house also does the same thing but what is distinguished in this house is the [ also with the Thai vernacular architecture in Supan province is almost the same ratio of this house between height and width is not the same as typical Thai architecture [ if we compare Thai architecture in another part of the country the architecture in Supan is quite more narrow or eave less ] because location the house which always located on the edge of the canal so when the wind comes through this canal it increases speed which a ects it to break an eave of Thai vernacular around there. this cause is not only the structure or roof to break but also makes this architecture at Supan province quite a bit more welcome or be seen from outside [Eave creates shade for the main building so when they don’t have eave sunlight will ush to space more than typical architecture style ] from the study and observation we can see that Thai architecture is setting the parameter of public and private by using the contrast of light inside and outside instead of using the vertical plane to divide the space which is di erent from Chinese and Japanese and make the] but there are other tools which a ect the parameter of public and private such as step and height of elevation, transition space such as veranda and terrace and also the way that are transit but for this house, we will rather focus on how void size, eave length, the hierarchy of space from terrace to veranda to accommodation unit.

So in the process of studying either with the building form that had been studied the structure and construction technique are also interesting parts. The most interesting part of the tectonic is the use of properties of wood [which can be bent depending on joinery work to help another part of the frame for load transfer which a ects the architecture to use smaller wood cross-section for the structure. which leads to the condition of making new architecture while containing the quality of light and shadow while developing the frame structure that much more appropriate to resource

New Architecture

After disassembling the old house and separating the damaged parts [ some are wall and frame structures] The main structure is going to use a wood frame structure + metal structure and cable truss structure. After an experiment with the Engineer, the cable truss structure is also done with load transfer behavior like Thai wood frame structure ] so we use this in some parts that have been damaged But for architecture to respond to the new requirement the column bay should be enlarged. So here we can’t use the only Thai frame methodology] So we imply a Chinese frame structure for load transfer and a larger column bay. for creating the parameter we have to extend the eave for longer but to prevent risk from uplifting from wind which will damage wood frame structure so we decide to add facade layer to maintain the e ect of light contrast

This project is located in Prae [ northern part of Thailand]. The owner of this project rst came up with the idea of making a vacation house for 8 people [with di erent generations]. that can maintain itself o -grid for at least 2 years. we should have designed the masterplan for the agriculture plot, water supply, waste management, and Accommodation unit but after doing research design team proposed a program from a vacation house to a farm stay retreat for people whocome and want to isolate life from the city for the project to make some pro t back to the owner.
