D E S P E R AT E T I M E S C A L L F O R P R AY E R 2 CHRONICLES PROJECT Over the last six months, we have witnessed things around the world and in our country we never thought possible. We’ve experienced a worldwide pandemic, economic crisis and civil unrest. There are so many questions and emotions that it can be overwhelming.Yet in all of this, God reminds us to: “Be Still,” “Let not your heart be troubled,” “Call to me and I will answer.” Desperate times call for prayer. 2 Chronicles 7:14 reminds us that “If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

C E L E B R AT E E AC H V I C TO RY In July, we celebrated our disciples who completed their discipleship training and graduated. We are extremely proud of their dedication and commitment. We know the Lord has good things for them as they seek to serve Him.

UGM Dallas is launching the 2 Chronicles Prayer Project. We ask that you join us in prayer and fasting for our homeless brothers and sisters, our staff at the Mission, our community and our nation. Beginning August 28th, visit our Facebook page at facebook.com/ugmdallas for an inspirational daily video and scripture at 7:00AM. As believers, we need to confess our personal sin and the sin of our country. We need to unite in prayer because we know the fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. The Israelites cried to the Lord from their bondage in Egypt. The Lord heard them and sent a deliverer. We covet your prayers for wisdom as we lead UGM Dallas through unprecedented times. We ask that you pray for continued health for our homeless residents and our staff. We ask that you pray that God would continue to provide financially for the Mission, as He has been so faithful. And please know, we give thanks for you always in our prayers as well.

On Thursday, September 17th, you can support UGM Dallas by donating during this online giving extravaganza. The benefit of giving on this day is that your donation will be multiplied with bonus funds. Mark your calendars to get up and give to UGM Dallas on Thursday, September 17th at northtexasgivingday.org/ugmd. But because of the great interest and generosity of people in North Texas, more time is available this year to support those in need. You can donate right now to give us the best possible start!

O U R ST U D E N TS N E E D YO U R H E L P – D O N AT E N O W Our students are headed back to school, and they need your support. When you give, you are helping to provide tutoring and computers for the new school year. A small monthly fee equips these children for success. You can set up your gift by filling out the donation form located at the front of the newsletter or online at donate.ugmdallas.org/Backpack-20. Thank you for your support and offering them a better start to a new year.

PAY I N G I T F O RWA R D Recently, UGM Dallas received a $200,000 donation from Calvary Bible Church, the church where William “Brother Bill” M. Thompson pastored. Brother Bill’s legacy continues as the homeless men and women he assisted are now giving back to the organization that helped them get back on their feet. These Disciples exemplify Luke 12:34, which says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

GIVING & WORSHIP GO HAND IN HAND Yiru Sun called off her wedding after refusing to sign a prenup, but couldn’t get the hall rental refunded. She decided to throw a party for 60 underprivileged families instead. As she mingled, she told the New York Post, “I cannot be the princess of my wedding day, but I can give the kids a fairy tale.” (Story from Readers’ Digest) Generosity changes lives. As we approach Christmas, could these three characteristics of giving impact the lives of those you love?

1. Giving can build relationship. Many people are shifting their Christmas shopping toward buying “shared experiences” rather than “things.”

2. Giving is good stewardship. When we give, we’re actively acknowledging God’s ultimate ownership of everything and honoring Him with an open hand.

3. Giving is an act of worship. Author Jay Link said, “There is no story in the Scriptures that more vividly connects giving to worship than the story of the wise men when they entered the very presence of Jesus…‘On coming to the house, they saw the child…and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures…of gold and incense and myrrh.’ These magi could not worship Jesus without presenting their gifts to Him.” An often overlooked way to worship the King and re-think your giving is by including a gift in your will to Union Gospel Mission Dallas. This could be an expression of your gratitude and praise for the blessings God has given throughout your life.
