How To
SPEND A HALF DAY IN THE VILLE...
{TELL ‘EM YOU SAW IT HERE IN THE TOWNIE!}
The Great Outdoors When we first moved here, I worked at the Tax Commissioner’s office, and Alicia Hester was one of the first people I met in Thomasville. I am quite apolitical and I don’t talk politics at the table…or anywhere else! But I know Alicia personally and can tell you that I have encouraged her to run for Tax Commissioner for years. She’s hardworking, intelligent, of sound character, and she knows that office inside and out. She’s a good choice in my book! And a good friend. 1 - Your favorite Tville restaurant? Jonah’s, yum! 2 - Jazz or classical? Jazz 3 - The last trip you took? To Gatlinburg, TN 4 - Email or text? Both 5 - Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate, no question!
Start the day in the back lot at Relics for repurposed finds for your garden, from planters made from old washing machines to tractor tines for border edging. Then make your way to A Different Drummer on South Broad for Southern art and one of the prettiest hidden gardens in Thomasville. Continue on to Firefly for gorgeous gifts inspired by nature - foxes and birds and bugs, oh my! - and lots of cookbooks for honest to goodness homemade fare. Take lunch at Sweet Grass Dairy - my personal fave is the NOLA . Their sandwiches and small plates are farm-to-table, eclectic and just plain good . And don’t forget to take home some of their cheese! After lunch, go over to Kevin’s for books and gear to get you ready for the outdoors, and stand under Fuzzy the bear while you’re there. End the day at Harden’s Taxidermy and experience their animal artistry. Maybe you’ll find a snake belt you just have to have!

No, not ROFL-ing, this is Rolfing! Dr. Oz talked about it on Oprah and described it as “someone doing yoga for you,” though I would describe it more as active massage, or perhaps a blend of massage and chiropractic. The goal is to properly align your spine and it focuses on your muscles to be able to do that with some coaching. I recently had a session with our new local practitioner, Pamela von Dressler, whose office is in the Business Exchange downtown. The space has great lighting, but remains private. There was soft music playing and I was very comfortable throughout the whole treatment. Pamela is cheerful and kind and puts you at ease. It was a great experience and I would certainly recommend it for those like me with poor posture and neck pain. It is reportedly good for chronic pain, limited range of motion and improved athletic performance. I feel like I’ve told you everything and nothing! All I can say is if you enjoy the technique of massage and the results of chiropractic, Rolfing might be for you! Because her practice here is new, Pamela has available one-hour spots which start at $85 {no tipping}. Find her online at www.deeprootsbodywork.com.

FROM THE BOOKSHELF & GALLERY Author and illustrator William Joyce captured readers with his book-turned-Oscar-winning-short-film The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. He’s returned with a collection of books based on our “guardians of childhood,” including the man on the moon, the sandman, Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, and the tooth fairy. Joyce’s latest series brings to life these childhood characters and their adventures, and on November 21, audiences will again have the chance to see Joyce’s work on the big screen. Until the film debuts, come by the store to check out Joyce’s beautiful books, each filled with the stories and pictures we’ve grown to love from this talented writer.
