What a year it has been! Last year, FLAUNT “popped up” temporary shops and historic murals to promote the vision of a burgeoning Creative District. One year later, new businesses and new building owners are rocking with a plan to revitalize the Bottom! We are celebrating these makers, creators and artists with FLAUNT: Rock On! – keep on rockin’ and rollin’ and inspiring us to continue our mission of bringing creativity to Thomasville. It is this drive that brings not only public art but also economic growth to our amazing city. We are bringing back larger-than-life pop art murals, all paying homage to 70’s rock icons, and a month full of events like band battles, creative conversations, exhibitions and more! Come rock with us at the Opening Night Party and we hope to jam out with you at the Battle of the Bands! Rock On, Thomasville Center for the Arts and Thomasville Mainstreet; Presenting Partners
My family shares a deep connection to West Jackson Street, as my mother and father used to walk up and down West Jackson to attend Fletcherville School. My father started his business on Fletcher Street, and also opened a dry cleaners on the corner of Stevens and Jackson. I shared many experiences there and have fond childhood memories of the area. Hurst Boiler is proud to support FLAUNT again this year and like myself, I hope that we are all creating happy memories of the Creative District for years to come. This year, FLAUNT attracted over thirty regional artists to participate in the mural competition; there is one contest for adults and one for youth. Each artist received a 70’s musician or band and the direction to paint with a pop art eye. The adult competition winner will receive $1000 and the youth winner will receive $750. Get to know the artists – not only are they crazy talented, but they are also dedicated to the mission of bringing creativity and growth to Thomasville!

PUBLIC ART PROJECT Florida State University’s Public Art & Architectural Art Studio program and TCA have combined
forces and the result will lead to a public art installation in time for FLAUNT! Six students, ranging in age from 19-28, and led by professor Kevin Curry have agreed to a 3-week design charette, where they will learn about Thomasville, FLAUNT and the new Creative District. The class is then challenged with designing, producing, and installing their public art creation in time for the Opening Night Party, with Lowe’s of Thomasville generously sponsoring the materials needed to make it happen. This initial project is the kick off for future public art projects and collaborations between FSU and TCA. We can’t wait to see what these students create – the installation will be unveiled at the Opening Night Party!
