Old Favourite or Rising Star?

Cox & Kings recommends four holidays to suit a range of tastes, whether you’re drawn to the classics or tempted off the tourist trail…

A classic in its own right, Cox & Kings has been arranging group tours for centuries, guiding guests around both well-loved and lesser-visited destinations. The travel operator’s four recommendations are divided between The Classics, such as India; and The Rising Stars, including Chile – home to wide skies and towering glaciers. Which destination is calling you?

The Classics

Golden Triangle & Shimla

Experience a taste of India on this outstanding introductory tour of the country’s most celebrated sights. Exploring the Golden Triangle, this journey combines imperial Delhi with the legendary Taj Mahal at Agra and a three-night stay in princely Jaipur, culminating in the beautiful hill station of Shimla.

Splendours of Chile

Splendours of Jordan

This tour reveals the very best of Jordan’s rich history and geography. Visit the classical city of Jerash, famed for its Roman ruins; the Biblical site of Mount Nebo; and both the rock-hewn city of Petra and lesserknown 'Little Petra'. The shifting sands of Wadi Rum and the stark-still waters of the Dead Sea complete your exploration.

The Rising Stars

Chile is an extraordinarily beautiful country, encompassing just about every type of landscape on Earth, from the arid desert of the north, through verdant lakes and pastures to the soaring peaks and glaciers of Patagonia. This expansive tour explores Chile’s spectacular wilderness, and allows time to discover some fascinating Chilean traditions.

Signature Experiences

Each tour includes activities that reveal hidden wonders and cultural secrets.

Guaranteed Departures

Many tours have guaranteed departures with no minimum number of guests required.

Spotlight on Malta

Malta’s small size makes it easy to explore, while its position at the crossroads of the Mediterranean has allowed it to cultivate a rich heritage. Exploring from a single location, this relaxed tour takes you beyond the island’s seaside resorts, delving into the history of the capital, Valletta; the three cities of Birgu, Senglea and Bormla; the harbour town of Marsaxlokk; and the ancient temples of Hagar Qim.

The Cox & Kings Differences

Hand-Picked Accommodation

They carefully choose each hotel, typically featuring 4 and 5-star properties.

No Single Supplements

The first three solo places on many of their tours are free of single supplements.

Genuinely Small Groups

The group sizes average just 14 guests with a maximum of 18 on most tours.

Expert Local Guides

They use local English-speaking guides who offer insight beyond the guidebooks

ExperiencesSignature

As a family-run cruise line, Fred. Olsen really take your experience personally. While the rest of the cruise industry has gone for bigger ships, Fred. Olsen has always believed that smaller is better. They have less guests on board so the service is personal and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Their elegant, smaller ships can reach places the bigger ships cannot and are able to dock at smaller ports in more interesting places. This passion for cruising has led to Fred. Olsen having more returning guests than any other cruise line.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has a small team of specialist itinerary planners. They take great pride in handcrafting each journey, to ensure they show their guests hidden gems as well as highlights on each of their sailings. It is a passion that has won them the Cruise Critic award for Best Itineraries every year since 2015.

With Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, you can sail from regional UK ports to hundreds of destinations around the world on their elegant, smaller-sized ships, with sailings available from Rosyth (Edinburgh), Newcastle, Liverpool and Southampton in 2023.

The on board experience

Fred. Olsen believes a cruise is different to a holiday. A cruise is about the joy of the journey, as well as the destinations guests can visit, and exploring the world from the wonderful vantage point of the ship and the sea.

That is why their onboard experience is different to other cruise lines. They want you to get beyond the standard tourist perspective, so you can discover real insights about the culture and nature of the places you are visiting.

New for 2023 sailings – Signature Experiences

All sailings in 2023 will feature brand new Signature Experiences, designed to celebrate what makes cruising with Fred. Olsen different when it comes to the onboard experience.

The experiences will focus on Itinerary Insights, the Sky at Sea, Treats of the Region, Scenic Discoveries and the Ship and the Sea, with each to be delivered by specialist guides who are experts in their field.

You can join fascinating talks as part of their Itinerary Insights programme. From lively lectures to smaller entertaining talks you can find out all about the culture, history, architecture and hidden gems of the places you will visit.

During their Treats of theRegion cookery demonstrations, chefs will show you how to prepare local dishes. You will also have the chance to taste local delicacies which are on the menu for lunch and dinner.

The Sky

At Sea sessions will invite you out on deck to enjoy sunrise and sunset events. You can also go along to the stargazing sessions where you can sit back on the open deck, snuggled up in a warm blanket with a hot chocolate or toddy and listen as their Nature Scout or visiting astronomers bring the night sky to life.

You don’t just travel from A to B with Fred. Olsen, their cruises are planned with Scenic Discoveryroutes in mind. These routes are designed to take in all the islands, ports, waterways, lochs and lakes, fjords and interesting seascapes that are out there. You can also join their team for interesting talks or out on deck where they will point out the geology and wildlife you are passing along the way.

As a familyrun business with almost 200 years of maritime history, Fred. Olsen are perfectly placed to show you what it takes to run a cruise ship. They have a programme called TheShipandTheSea where you can join their friendly Bridge team to learn more about chart reading, or join in with their “Audience With” interviews with the Captain and Officers on board.
