GRAND BAHAMA PASTOR HOPES TO SAVE ‘BROKEN’ PEOPLE WITH NEW BOOK BY ALESHA CADET | TRIBUNE FEATURES WRITER | ACADET@TRIBUNEMEDIA.NET

I

T WAS during a dark time three years ago when Pastor Kenneth A Miller prayed and asked of the Lord to guide him in ministry during a particular sermon. Out of that came the inspiration to write a new book called “Broken Pieces Still Have Purpose: Overcoming Today’s Negativity”. “What truly motivated me to write a book based on that topic is the pain and anguish of the people around world, specifically here at home in The Bahamas. I believe that the sermon preached all the way back then is still relevant now and much needed to be heard,” said Pastor Miller. It was in 2013 when he first embarked on the journey to preach to the communities of Grand Bahama, which led to the eventual establishment of the Modern Day Exodus Global Church in 2016, where he serves as senior pastor to this day. In addition to his ministerial credentials, Pastor Miller is also a certified life coach and corporate trainer. “I realised that written words have a long standing impact because an individual can read them at whatever time they are needed most. So, simply put, my inspiration (came) from a place of wanting to help people in a holistic way. This new book is my seventh published book and its accompanying journal would be the eighth,” said Pastor Miller. He describes “Broken Pieces Still Have Purpose” as a compilation of topics ranging from how to identify your purpose, to reconnecting with the Lord Jesus Christ. In the book, Pastor

Miller looks at the process of building a prosperous and jubilant life. “As an individual traverses the pages of this book, he or she will encounter questions and statements that will aid him or her with examining his or her life. Above all else, (the book) is designed to assist a person with recognising that the broken pieces of his or her life still have purpose, and it is time to overcome today’s negativity,” he said. “Every one of my books has a testimony attached to it, but the words that I would use to describe this book is ‘a labour of love’. My love for my fellow men and women has now manifested on pages, and the words on these pages

PASTOR KENNETH MILLER LAUNCHES HIS NEW BOOK.

will help to be a healing for many of them from the brokenness they may be feeling today.” Pastor Miller said this book became a reality thanks to several people: Minister Simon Hutson, who edited the text; Chelsea Johnson, who is leading the marketing campaign, and Minister Kelda Sweeting who did the photography. “The message I would love for everyone to grasp from this book is to remember that no matter how tragic situations may be at times, God still has a purpose for our lives. Also, there is no level of brokenness that you can not recover from, so it is at this time I challenge you to see the greater opportunities for success wrapped up in the shattered pieces called your life. And to help with your dynamic recovery, I have added in my personal testimonies, life lessons and situations into the book to give you a realistic view of what is to overcome negativity,” said Pastor Miller. A live virtual book launch is set to be hosted via Pastor Miller’s Facebook page on Sunday, May 31. Supporters are also invited to visit the website www.kennethamiller.org to stay up to date with Pastor Miller’s teaching series set for May 27 at 8 pm. The new book will be available on Amazon and Kindle as of May 23. “Our ministry, Modern Day Exodus Global Church, was birthed via WhatsApp and conference calls, so a virtual launch is like returning back to my roots. Therefore, I am looking forward to everyone being able to experience the move of God that comes personally to your home while still being able to be involved in a public celebration,” said Pastor Miller.

MEDITATION THE CROWN OF GREY HAIR BY REV ANGELA C BOSFIELD PALACIOUS

I

THINK that the best kept secret in this country today has nothing to do with politics or economics. No, the biggest secret has to do with getting older. Everyone tries to make us believe that we really don’t have to accept old age at all. Look at the commercials on television. Is it really such a disgrace to have grey hair? Is it really such a terrible thing to lose your hair if you are a man, or for a woman to have a thinner head of hair than in her youth? Are wrinkles to be avoided at all cost? It sounds as if beauty is only skin deep! Why are we so obsessed with hiding our ages and looking younger

RELIGION than our years? Does it have anything to do with how old people are treated? The answer lies in these verses from the Psalms: “Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.” (Psalm 71:17-18 NIV). The psalmist asks God not to leave him because he is old. We are afraid that no one will love us if we are old. What a terrible thing to be afraid to be who you truly are, because you may be rejected. I question the kind of love that can be turned off that easily and quickly. This is not the kind of unconditional love that we are supposed to have as Christians, instead it is to be the kind that endures forever. Living in a culture which does not always respect its senior citizens as it ought, they may sometimes wonder if God has forgotten them as well. They may feel that while they were able to teach Sunday School, or be an usher, that God loved them because of their service. Now that they are not able to get about at all, it may seem to them that God has abandoned them. Especially during a pandemic that threatens to kill the elderly more than others, we have to assure them that this is not true, because God has promised to never leave them. In the word of Jesus

Christ: “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20). We have the assurance that God will not leave us or forsake us. This means that when we wake in the morning Christ is there. No matter how lonely we may feel sometimes, you can speak to the Lord and he will hear you. If you are ill or in great pain, call upon the healing presence of the Holy Spirit to give you strength to endure, to fill you with the peace that passes all understanding. Even during moments of depression, or anxiety, you can lean on those everlasting arms and find rest for your weary soul. You receive strength, peace and rest through prayer and the reading of scripture. If you have experienced the love of God in your life then you know what a difference that makes. If you have known what it is to feel that God has forgiven you for sins committed in the past, then you know the nature of God’s love. For those of you who may not have felt the presence of God in your life then today can be your day of salvation, your day to be born of the Spirit. The truth is that God loves you as a part of God’s world: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16).

HEALTH AND SPIRITUALITY PART IV - SIN TOXIC TO THE SOUL BY NICHOLAS MORLEY “AND when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.” (John 11:43-44) Righteousness by faith is a spiritual health principle that needs more attention than it regularly gets. Among prayer and devotion, righteousness by faith should take a more prominent role in our lives and message. It is because the same God who has the power to resurrect us, also has the power to free us. This we ought to know. Jesus received a message that his friend

JESUS raises Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus was terribly sick and that He was to come. However, Jesus is delayed in his departure (perhaps this was intentional) and arrives four days after Lazarus has died and was entombed. But Christ made it on time to show a greater miracle: the resurrection of the dead. Yet beyond this there’s a great spiritual health principle that we cannot ignore.

Spiritually, the resurrection of the dead is always happening. When one accepts Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour, they have been raised from death and the grip of sin to live anew. But many of us, after tasting the newness we find in Jesus, fail to advance to the next step, which is righteousness by faith. Lazarus being raised from the dead is a wonderful example of what Christ

THE TRIBUNE Even faith the size of a minuscule mustard seed is enough to let you know that every second of your life you have God’s loving support in all circumstances. We are called to trust God and to be faithful even when we do not understand what is happening to us. Knowing that God will never cease to love you, as you age you may be proud of your grey hair and your wrinkles, which show the years of joy and sorrow that you have experienced. One person has called them battle scars gained in her many years of hard labour in God’s vineyard. Ultimately, it is a personal choice how we respond to our own aging. May we all, at whatever age and stage we find ourselves, rest assured that“neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”(Romans 8:38-39). We are never too old to be loved by someone who knows what it truly means to love, but most importantly of all, we will never get too old to be loved by God. • Rev Angela Palacious, a motivational speaker and author of several devotional books, is an Anglican priest. She may be contacted at 393-9000 or by e-mail at angelapalacious@gmail.com. does for us when He spiritually raises us from the dead. We hear His voice and come forth. Yet we still sometimes wear the same grave clothes that we were called in. Many think that the road ends after accepting Christ, after heeding His call to come forth, but the same Christ who has called us also can free us from the sins that easily beset us. (Hebrews 12:1) Many of us come to Christ bound head to foot as we should come to Him. But many of us stay bound. Many do not go the full distance of being fully freed from our grave clothes. Many of us still wear the grave clothes of guilt, hatred, inconsistencies, fornication, and list goes on. If we want to truly be free in Jesus, we must allow Him to free us. Let us not hide anything from our saviour, let us not come to Him as we are, but get rid of everything that we don’t need for our new journey with Him. Because who the son sets free is free indeed. S its mission has always been to assist those in need, members of Hadassah’s Helping Hands Foundation, in collaboration with the Bahamas Galaxy Queens, have sprung into action to meet the needs of those struggling in the community during this challenging economic time. And with their recent efforts, 50 single mothers were provided with grocery care packages to feed their families. The HHH organisation has hosted give-back events and donated grocery packages to those in need throughout the community for several years now. The foundation initially had set their sights on June for its grocery initiative, however, in response to the pandemic, they decided their help Ferrice Kemp was needed sooner, said and members of Ferrice Kemp, founder of HHH organisation HHH. “Our plan for June of are providing 50 this year was to distribute mothers with grocery 200 grocery care packages care packages. throughout the communities in Nassau, but since the pandemic of COVID-19 came along a lot of our ideas and plans were put on hold. During this pandemic I have seen a lot of people crying out for help, especially single mothers. I have watched the news and saw that a lot of persons were laid off from their jobs with no income to feed themselves, children, or other family members,” she told Tribune Religion. Ms Kemp said she was watching the evening news one night when the story of a struggling mother of four came on. in need. others who donated unselfishly and with no regrets,” she said. The grocery bags contained grits, rice, cream, tuna, sardines, tomato paste, tea bags, noodles, soups, sugar, corn flakes, macaroni and cheese, Vienna sausages, and snacks for the kids such as chips, pies, crackers, and Capri Sun juices. “There were inspirational messages from the foundation and the Bahamas Galaxy Queens to remind them that they are not alone and that Yahweh will never put more on them that they can bear, that He will never leave them, and

that He will always supply all of their needs no matter how the circumstances; they only need to put their trust and faith in Him,” she said. Ms Kemp said it filled her and the volunteers with much joy to give back and meet the needs of the mothers. “HHH Foundation lives by the scripture Acts 20:35, which states: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ It felt good to give and it warmed our hearts to see the smiles on their faces when they received the care packages. When we give, it shows how Yahweh demonstrates His love for us. Giving makes us happy, it generates contentment, it gives our lives meaning, it helps create relationships, it opens up the door of blessings for yourself and others, and last but not least, giving makes us appreciative of what we have,” she said. Within 24 hours of the initiative, Ms Kemp said they received overwhelming feedback from those in the community whom they had assisted. Even more reached out to inquire about receiving grocery packages. “Unfortunately, there were no more grocery packages to assist everyone, but a few friends of mine were able to pool together financially and purchase enough groceries to assist additional mothers who requested assistance. We also received a message from Keno Wong, who is one of the co-chairmen of the Bahamas National Neighbourhood Watch Council, that stated he shared the video with others and that families were so grateful for what we did for them and that they were touched by this selfless act of kindness,” she said. Hadassah’s Helping Hands Foundation plans to host another grocery give-back and lunch drive in July. “Our goal is distribute one 150 to 200 care packages, not only for single mothers, but for all of those who are in need, such as the elderly, single fathers, et cetera, along with a hot breakfast as they pick up their care package,” said Ms Kemp.
