AFTER three years of existence, Women of Purpose and Power remains committed to helping address the spiritual needs of those in the community.
The organisation marked its three-year anniversary with a Women of Purpose and Power luncheon that celebrated the journey thus far and also charted the course for the future.
Guided by the biblical scripture 1 Peter 4:10 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms,” members use their gifting to spread love and contribute positively to their communities as well as the world at large.
Deidre Bastian, president of the group, said the mission is simple to serve.
WOPP242 have felt the love engaging in the community visiting, motivating and feeding the residents of the young and old folk’s homes. To date, she said the group is humbled for the opportunity to have conducted many clothes and food drives of which we give God the glory.
“The hallmark of an influential but intentional organisation is its importance to create a welcoming and non-judgmental space. WOPP242 environment emboldens open dialogue, honest sharing, and mutual encouragement within. It is where women 'come as they are', find acceptance, and experience transformative impact and influence in a positive setting.
“Our mission statement embodies a simple proclamation: ‘Women working together to make a better world’. This mandate is a huge undertaking, as putting a smile in the heart of just one person is proof that our mission is not in vain. As a certified NGO, NPO, we have proven that when hearts bind together with empty pockets, God always make a way,” she said.
than just a buzzword; and so much more than a collection of accomplished projects and assignments; it's proof that there are people in the world who still believe in being our brother’s/sister’s keeper."
“It is our belief that outreach is so much more
For the third anniversary, the Women of Purpose of Power242 worshipped at Little Jerusalem Apostolic Ministries and thereafter enjoyed a luncheon together.
“This third anniversary is truly a major milestone, as we have come to recognize and appreciate how far we came. We are also grateful for the dedicated women, who are still onboard since inception. Surely this milestone can only resonate to a test of determination. Notably, on the third day Jesus rose and as a result, we liken this our third year to 'elevation'… a new beginning. Ultimately, we are also mindful that 'Big trees started from small seeds' thus this reflection is humbling.”
During the luncheon, the group took a time to reflect on all it has been able to accomplish and the impact made.

ROBERT'S Western World is known as Nashville's most authentic honky tonk and synonymous with country music. But for an hour on Sundays, no one can drink alcohol; everyone must listen to Christian music. This is "Sunday Gospel Hour" in the Tennessee capital known as Music City.
For nearly 20 years, worship at this honky tonk has been led by the Rev. Ron Blakely — a 71-yearold musician and Catholic convert who was ordained a priest in another faith tradition.
"It's been a blessing," he said of his weekly gig. He was interviewed at his log cabin in the outskirts of Nashville where he rehearsed before the Sunday service with sheet music and scripture.
"It's not like I got a board of elders and I have
to meet all the money to pay the bills," he said, comparing it to regular houses of worship. "I'm just there, playing my guitar and giving the message that God puts in my heart."
On a recent Sunday, he strummed his guitar, wearing a black crucifix and white cowboy hat, while his daughter, Mimi Fischer, sang Patsy Cline's "Life's Railway to Heaven" in an angelic voice that moved some to tears. The stage was
decorated with a fluttering U.S. flag.
"Her voice was just beautiful," said Sonia Davis, 53, a nurse visiting with her husband from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She didn't know about the Gospel Hour until she walked into Robert's.
"I cry a lot," she said, chuckling and wiping tears after the show-turnedworship. "I feel other people's emotions, and I felt there was a lot of emotion from hearing her, and the whole band, and
“Subsequently, strong leadership within any ministry or organization plays a fundamental role, as it should offer opportunities to share, experience, challenge, and celebrate victories in a nurturing environment. Overall, our impact has been encouraging perhaps more so due to our visibility throughout the community and presence on Facebook social media," she told Tribune Religion.
As the group steps into another calendar year, it remains committed to the course of meeting spiritual needs while also building the community
the fact that she was performing with her father, and it was family."
It was past 11 a.m. on Sunday, when many Americans are in their churches, sitting on wooden pews.
At Robert's, some locals and dozens of tourists from across the nation instead found their church sitting on the barstools of this beloved honky tonk. It is on Lower Broadway across from Garth Brooks' multilevel entertainment space and just steps from the Ryman Auditorium — the so-called Mother Church of Country Music.
Outside, partying bachelorettes and country lovers on a
“We seek to establish and continue positive relationships with other community builders, local organisations, churches, schools, and businesses in the future. Additionally, it is our hope to plan, organise, and participate in larger community events, forums and promote with like-minded people with shared purpose. Additionally, we look forward to providing programmes and platforms for addressing the spiritual needs and concerns faced within the community.
“We are always examining our calendar to ensure the ministry meets its target, bridge gaps, and foster a sense of community inclusion. Ultimately, we are presently implementing more effective community outreach programs coupled with women forums hopefully to bring awareness to our continued initiatives,” she said.

musical pilgrimage strolled through a packed Broadway of bars blasting live music. Inside, tourists and locals, including children (open to all until 6 p.m.; 21+ after), fidgeted on their chairs. Some seemed moved by the spirit, Christian/country classics — or both. So, they sang along, clapped and even prayed.
"When I sing those songs, I want for people who hear them to have a glimpse of what it is to feel and follow Jesus," said Fischer, who was joined that Sunday by his daughter Skyler, in charge of the red tip jar that later was passed around to the audience.
