Members of Gospel industry to be celebrated

THE legendary awardwinning Bahamian Gospel group Cooling Waters, a staple in the music industry for decades, is marking its 60th anniversary with a grand concert as part of the Bahamas Gospel Music Awards next week.

Attendees are expected to be taken on a trip down memory lane as the group recalls some of its most profound hits that have transcended different eras.

The concert and industry honours will take place at the Myles E Munroe Diplomat Centre, Carmichael Road.

Lead producer of the event Kevin Harris, in collaboration with Oracle Media, thought it fitting to put Cooling Waters on stage in celebration of its anniversary after the group received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event last year and put on one of the most memorable and touching performances.

It made sense to invite the group back for a much grander performance this time around to celebrate their anniversary.

“At the time, Bishop Morris had indicated to me that the group was preparing to celebrate their 60th anniversary in 2024,” remembers Harris.

“There was a desire to have a concert in Grand Bahama and one in New Providence to celebrate that important milestone. So, we continued our discussions, and the idea started to form that we could put together something special by hosting an anniversary concert for the Cooling Waters,” Mr Harris said.

At the same time, Mr Harris decided it would be a great idea to also honour some additional individuals in the Bahamian gospel music industry, whom he desired to include in last year’s honor list.

Now that the two events have combined, organisers are looking forward to a “spectacular night designed to not only honour many in the Bahamian Gospel music industry but also an unforgettable evening to pay tribute to one of the most legendary Gospel groups in our nation’s history, the Cooling Waters.”

A variety of Bahamian Gospel artists have been

secured to perform at the highly anticipated event.

They include Davian Chase, Shaback, The Rahming Brothers, I Am STACS, Kenyatta Taylor, Mericha, Anna Calixte, with music by DJ Godson.

“This is going to be a very special night as we celebrate one of the most legendary Gospel groups in The Bahamas,” added Harris.

Mr Harris confirmed his vision was to create an experience that would take attendees on a musical journey of the past with some of the greatest hits of The Cooling Waters while at the same time create an opportunity to recognise and honour individuals and companies that have helped Bahamian Gospel music thrive over the years.

A total of 34 individuals and companies will be honoured as a part of the Cooling Waters’ 60th anniversary celebrations and Bahamian Gospel Industry Honours. Honorees will include singers, musicians, sound engineers, producers, songwriters, radio personalities, and Gospel

radio stations that exclusively play Bahamian Gospel music.

“All of our honorees who will be honoured this year with the Gospel Industry Award are really individuals who have worked hard and made tremendous contributions to the advancement, development and promotion of Bahamian Gospel music throughout the years,” said Harris.

The list of honorees will include artists Anna Caliste, Eunice Rolle, Alexander (Stacs), Latasha Taylor, Lillian Barrett, Mericha Walker, Pam Collins, Rev. Ozzie Poitier and Tazy Clare; musicians Bertram Bowleg, John David “JD”Stewart, Junior Scott, Rory Adams and Travanté Taylor; engineers Andrew Gardiner and Stephan Francis; producers Kamal Roberts, Sammie Starr, and Vincent “V Mac” McDonald; songwriters Chavone Butler and Roderick Pinder; radio personalities Claudia “Sister C” Gibson, Derek Stubbs, DJ Godson, Kermit Taylor, Keshagen Adderley, Keturah Clarke, Sherice Ferguson and

Campbell Marshal; videographer Kristoff Rolle; radio stations 101.9 Joy FM, Glory 93, Dove FM and ZNS Inspiration 107.5FM.

Mr Harris said it brings him great joy to be able to give Gospel artists their roses while they are still around to smell it.

“We’re very excited to be able to pay tribute to these men and women who have made tremendous sacrifices and have helped to advance the Kingdom of God through Gospel music,” added Harris. “We’re looking forward to coming together with family and friends and church members to join them for this special occasion and to celebrate one of the legendary Gospel groups ever in The Bahamas, the Cooling Waters.”

Tickets are $25 advance and $30 at the door. Children 12 years and younger pay $15. Tickets can be purchased from All Seasons Book and Gift Centre in the Palmdale Shopping Plaza, Logos Bookstore (Harbour Bay Shopping Plaza) or at the Oasis Bookstore & Café at the Diplomat Centre.

Anglican diocese holds healing conference

THE Diocesan 4th Annual Healing Conference will be held on October 18– 9 in the All Saints Hall in New Providence. The theme for the conference is “Health, Healing & Humanity.” Reference scripture is Proverbs 4:20-22 & Jeremiah 30:17.

The objectives of the conference are: To gain an understanding of how faith

and prayer are intertwined; To examine the growth in spiritual discipline as it relates to our walk with God; To experience the presence of God.

The theme requires us to engage in introspection by doing a self-check on our relationship with God.

Organisers said: “So, how thirsty are we for the things of God? Can we hear God

calling us? Do we take time from our busy schedules and our daily activities to hear God speak? Do we want to respond to God’s call to heal the hurt and pain that we have experienced? Do we want God to heal us from the pain and injury we have inflicted on others?

“If you can truly say yes to these questions, and you know

that God desires you to be his vessel during this period in your life, then I invite you to the 4th Annual Healing Conference on October 18-19. If you are unable to attend, we kindly request your prayers.”

The committee is asking that each Anglican parish consider sponsoring two or three young persons to the conference, at a mere cost of $100 per person.

This covers all of the meals and snacks, and we promise that your parish will be richer for this investment.

Speakers include: Canon Basil Tynes, Revd Marie Roach Hepburn, Revd Paulette Cartwright, Revd Dr Kari Marcelle, Dr Daniel Lloyd, Harrison Thompson.

Antonio Thompson’s Gospel breakthrough

BAHAMIAN gospel artist Antonio J Thompson is set to make waves in the music world with the release of his highly anticipated debut album, “Live in the Upper Room Part 1”.

Combining his deep-rooted faith with a captivating blend of talent, Antonio is quickly emerging as a multifaceted force in the gospel music scene. His dynamic presence goes beyond just singing, as he writes, dances, and serves his community with a genuine heart for ministry, leaving an indelible mark on listeners and followers of Christ alike.

Antonio’s debut album is a testament to his devotion to God and his passion for using his gifts to inspire others.

With each track, he invites listeners into a powerful spiritual experience, drawing from his personal journey of faith and service. His ability to merge uplifting messages with soulful rhythms showcases his versatility as an artist, while his humility and dedication shine through in every aspect of his work. Whether on stage or in his everyday life, Antonio exemplifies a true servant of God, using his talents to uplift and encourage those around him.

He describes himself as "a son of God, a beloved second child, and a cautious thinker".

“It feels refreshing and scary at the same time stepping into this unique light called being a new artist. But it’s time, and I’m grateful for it,” said Antonio.

His management group, Edgy Management, shared that Antonio is one of four brothers, and although shy by nature, his creativity flows through his music and writing.

For Antonio, it was prayer that inspired the making of the new album. He said during the COVID-19 global

pandemic, which brought about much reflection, isolation, and inspiration - he waded through life in a dark place.

“God began to sing over me, and I wrote every lyric as He sang. With the musical expertise of Marvin Sands, who translated heaven's melody into a deeply spiritual sound, I allowed the songwriter in me to flourish," said Antonio.

"(The album) is about hope—hope in God’s word and presence, especially when the journey seems bleak. Even when God is silent, He’s still there, working His will in your life."

Travis Edgecombe, of Edgy Management, noted that Antonio’s musical journey was enriched by collaborations with incredible talents, both locally and internationally. Antonio has worked closely with Marvin Sands and received support from managers Delores Black and Travis himself.

Vocalists like Jamal Miller, Charphane Burnside, Chanta Clare, and others collaborated on the project with their voices, while studio professionals like Frederick

Seymour, Victor Johnson, and Gregg White shaped the sound.

Moreover, musicians from The Bahamas, including Travis Rolle, Javon Taylor, Christian Pratt, Jose Etienne, AJ Dean and Daniel Nixon also played a part in bringing the project to life.

There were notable local artists like Pastor Necole Watson of Trinity City of Praise and Minister Trent Williams of Tampa, FL, who are also featured on this first part of the album.

For all those interested, Antonio’s debut album is now available for purchase, download, and streaming on all major digital platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Tidal.

Listeners, his team said, can follow Antonio’s journey and stay updated on future projects by following him on Facebook and Instagram at Antonio J Thompson.

With Live in the Upper Room: Part 1, Antonio invites listeners to experience the power of faith, hope, and music like never before. He believes his journey has just begun, and there’s much more to come.
