FAST FOOD

NUGS & KISSES

The humble chicken nugget. Once just an everyday staple for kids' tea all over the country; today, chicken nugget mania has hit us all with everything from food challenges to a social media sensation and everything in between. But where do you get your chicken nuggets from? Your local supermarket? The popular fast food chains? Well now there is a new option - introducing NUGS, the UK’s first ever nugget shop NUGS was founded in May 2020 by Reis Esiroglu and Charley Fairbrother. Due to the lockdown, Reis became furloughed and eventually was made redundant, but the couple had always had the idea of taking the humble chicken nugget and developing it to another level with a myriad of flavours and homemade sauces and sides. With restaurants closed, the journey started by utilising Reis’ mum’s kitchen. Starting an Instagram page, they established a small following and began to see orders flocking in. They reached out to friends, family and celebrities who lived in the local area. These celebrities endorsed and loved NUGS and its Instagram popularity began to grow. Very quickly NUGS outgrew the home kitchen, and they took up their first residency in The Rising Sun in Hornchurch, east London. The team are proud of their roots and NUGS still operates from there. Using 100% chicken breast, all the NUGS are cut, breaded and fried by hand, and the sauces are varied and homemade. All food is reliably sourced, made from the finest quality and is all served in bio-degradable packaging. NUGS are gluten free, made from Halal meat and there are even vegetarian and vegan options so that everyone can join in the nugget craze. NUGS was recently voted The London Borough of Havering’s Best Takeaway 2022 and Charley and Reis have just opened a second location in Wapping, east London, at Love, Pub & Grub every Saturday. They are also doing deliveries and takeaways from Wednesday to Friday and on Sundays as well. New locations are being sought, so NUGS could well be coming to a location near you.

Some of FTB’s favourites are the Korean Tings, a sweet, sticky and slightly spicy nugget covered in Gochujang sauce, and the Cheesy Does It, a stunning deep fried halloumi nugget. If you like your spice cranked up to the extreme then try The Grim Reaper, but you have been warned, it’s seriously hot! Willing participants enter the hall of fame. We also really liked the Badboy Buffalo Wrap, a chicken fillet drenched in buffalo sauce on a bed of lettuce topped with blue cheese dip and chives.
