Specialist Facilities
BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Psychology has a bespoke laboratory and uses specialist equipment to help students engage with contemporary research and practice.
Tobii Pro Eye-Tracking Glasses
Eye-tracking involves the observation and recording of eye behaviour such as pupil dilation and movement. The Tobii Pro Glasses deliver robust gaze data while giving users the freedom to move and interact naturally. Such equipment has been used in scanning and decision-making research in soccer.
BATAK Pro
This equipment is designed to improve reaction time, hand eye co-ordination, and stamina by enabling sportsmen and women to train under simulated ‘sports like’ conditions. The BATAK Pro has been used when researching motor control abilities in wrestlers.
Electroencephalogram (EEG)
EEG involves the recording of brain activity; whereby small sensors are attached to the scalp to monitor the electrical signals produced by the brain. EEG has been used in research involving relaxation techniques in sports such as archery.
Virtual Reality (VR)
VR is used to create a simulated environment, and as a training aid in many sports such as golf. It is used as an aid to measure aspects of performance, as well as analysing technique. Social Identity theorists have used VR in research involving rugby players.
