PHILOSOPHY, THEOLOGY AND RELIGIONS Deepen your outlook on the world and nurture new ideas on human existence. If you’re keen to acquire the tools of logic and reason to think rigorously and defend your own position, then our dynamic courses are a great place to start. On our courses you will study the great critical thinkers throughout history and look to apply their theories to current situations. You will look at the bigger questions that surround our everyday life and how these impact different sections of society. Why do we exist? What is the role of religion in the contemporary world? How should we treat each other? Our experienced lecturers are there to help broaden your mind and apply these vast ideas to your specific area of interest. Year 1 is designed to build your confidence in critical thinking and writing. Year 2 lets you delve into key topics and develop your own personal views. In Year 3 you will pursue a profile of options geared to your own academic interests. Topics on offer

reflect the wide range of options available in the department, which may include Bioethics, Exploring Judaism, Gender and Sexuality in the Bible, and Nietzsche, Freud and Atheism. You may know exactly where you’d like your course to take you, or you might – like some of our graduates – discover this along the way. If you’re looking to explore the bigger questions, interrogate the typical and communicate critical thinking, then Philosophy, Religion and Theology is the right place for you. Graduates may go on to enter careers in teaching; charitable organisations; communications; journalism; social work; and academia. Critical thinking, gathering and analysing evidence, and strong cultural awareness are all sought after transferable skills that are utilised in the professional world.
