Thank you for attending the 2016 Digital Masters Awards What a night! Thank you for joining us in celebrating some of Europe’s most brilliant executives. The winners embody inspirational leadership, and we were delighted to be able to honour them in front of their peers. The European digital ecosystem is in safe hands. It’s hard to believe that the Digital Masters Awards are still only in their third year. We launched them in 2014 because we were inspired by the executives we worked with, and thought that they deserved wider recognition. We are so pleased that others have taken the same view, and proud that the Awards have already become widely acknowledged, across Europe, as an authoritative and independent mark of excellence. As ever, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our extraordinary judging panel, expertly chaired once again by Robin Klein. Robin is now taking a deserved break, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank him for his wisdom, patience and encouragement from the day we first tentatively explained our idea to him. We couldn’t have done it without him. We are also very grateful to our sponsors for supporting the Digital Masters Awards, many of whom have been involved since the beginning: Google, Silicon Valley Bank, Criteo, Colt, Neyber, Eventbrite, BCG Digital Ventures, Zeta Interactive and Felix . Thanks too to our community partners Tech City UK and Tech London Advocates for helping spread the word and to ROLI for their amazing performance during tonight’s ceremony. Finally, a word about gender diversity. The Up Group has championed women in tech since our foundation in 2007, and have been privileged to be able to work with, and place, some outstanding female executives. Our industry still has a long way to go, but it feels like we are making progress - albeit slowly. The Women in Digital category was designed to showcase the depth of female talent in the European digital economy, and we hope that this has made some small contribution to shifting people’s mindsets. We will be retiring this category next year in the fervent hope that the longlists continue to become ever more representative of the diversity of talent in our industry. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2017! Clare Johnston and Robert Swerling Co-CEOs, The Up Group @TheUpGroup 3

The Judging Panel Robin Klein LocalGlobe

John Rosenberg TCV

Message from the Chairman of the Judging Panel In the three years I have been involved with the Digital Masters Awards, I have been privileged to review the careers and achievements of some exceptional executives. This year's nominees are as strong as ever, exemplifying outstanding leadership, and proving, if proof were needed, that the European digital economy is building strong foundations for long term success. The strength of this year's candidates made our job particularly challenging, and like to thank my fellow judges for performing their duties with great care and insight. When Clare and Rob approached me in 2014 to help honour the executives responsible, behind the scenes, for driving innovation in the European digital economy, it was an easy decision for me to make. And I'm delighted to see how, in three short years, the Awards have come to represent the gold standard for excellence in the digital disciplines. This is my final year as Chairman, but I have no doubt that my successor will find it as fascinating and inspiring as I did. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Digital Masters Awards every success in the future, and look forward to attending them for many years to come. Robin Klein

Gleb Tritus, Venture Development, Lufthansa Innovation Hub JJ Van Oosten, Chief Digital Officer, REWE Group Múirne Laffan, Chief Digital Officer, RTÉ Sean Cornwell, Chief Digital Officer, Travelex

WINNER Ralph Rivera, BBC Ralph was the catalyst for the digital transformation journey that repositioned the BBC as an open public service platform serving the broader creative ecosystem. His vision, strategy and implementation have driven a culture change in an organisation that primarily saw itself as a programme maker and distributor. Initiatives such as MyBBC now enable the organisation to engage with individuals, create personalised products and develop CRM capabilities. There are now over 6 million active registered users, with real-time analytics informing curation and editorial decisions. Ralph was instrumental in launching BBC Taster to incubate and distribute new online native formats, and driving digital creativity and coding through the micro:bit distributed to Year 7 students. His input has extended the BBC’s overall UK online reach to a peak of 88% – second behind Google and just ahead of Facebook.

RUNNER UP

RUNNER UP Jora Gill, The Economist

Jora has delivered a complete overhaul of the customer experience through new CRM, eCommerce, access to digital content and segmented subscription management. He’s led a change of culture to an agile mindset, and an organisational shift built around products not job families. He’s effectively created a start-up culture within an established mainstream organisation, an approach that has significantly cut lead-times for new and better digital products, features and service ideas. A move to the Cloud – completed in 6 months – has led to greater agility and significantly cut costs, setting budgets free to support new digital ventures.

Mark Dearnley, HMRC, UK Government Mark set out the digital vision for HMRC’s ambitious transformation plans. At its heart are digital tax accounts that bring together everything in one place online for customers. Over the past year, Mark has overseen the growth of the business tax account to more than five million users, and the launch of the personal tax account, now serving one and a half million taxpayers. In all, his teams have brought 18 new digital services to life, achieving user satisfaction levels of up to 90%. Mark has completely changed HMRC’s delivery culture, introducing a multi-channel digital model, and championing the use of open source, agile, and DevOps. HMRC now has the biggest digital operation in government, with more than 700 digital specialists in six state-of-the-art digital delivery centres which Mark opened over the last two years.

WINNER Anna Alex and Julia Bösch, OUTFITTERY OUTFITTERY was founded with the mission to make shopping more enjoyable for men, and has fast grown into a market leader. The curated shopping service is now a widely recognised brand, collecting national accolades in Germany and growing by more than 100% year on year. Anna and Julia’s dedication to fine-tuning the service and investing in innovation have made OUTFITTERY the next step in the evolution of retail. The August 2015 launch of the ‘WhatsApp Style Chat’ saw them become the first European eCommerce company to offer customer consultation via messenger service. A focus on fast, friendly and effective communication and outstanding customer service has seen OUTFITTERY grow to 300 employees and serve more than 300,000 customers. The company has recently expanded its German offices with the aim that, one day, every European man will benefit from its personal shopping and style service.

RUNNER UP

RUNNER UP Alex Depledge and Jules Coleman, Hassle.com

The past 18 months have been a busy mixture of fundraising and M&A deals for Alex and Jules. They took the lead negotiating deal structures and navigating choppy waters. Their combined efforts led to a significant jump in the valuation of Hassle.com, strong revenue growth in new and home markets and exiting the company in July 2015. A highlight of the duo’s work internally was the building of a data analytics team in house. Through hard work, focus and a proprietary attribution model, they were able to build models that predicted to within 1% accuracy. Jules and Alex also focused on coaching and development to achieve a gender balance on the executive team by March 2015, and a 50/50 split at all levels by July 2015. Alex is an active and vocal member of the tech community, chair of Coadec and one of the founding board members of Sharing Economy UK (SEUK).

Debbie Wosskow, Love Home Swap As founder and CEO of Love Home Swap, Debbie has forged a flagship company for the UK sharing economy and the luxury lifestyle industry. Debbie’s strategic long-term vision, leadership skills and business acumen were central to Wyndham’s £7.5m investment. She has consistently scaled up the company internationally, resulting in year on year user and portfolio growth. Core to this success is a commitment to delivering a safe, secure and respected online community and portal that builds trust in consumers using its sharing services. The company now has over 100,000 properties listed in 190 countries worldwide, making it twice the size of its main US rival. Debbie is a champion of the UK tech industry, angel investor in female led businesses, author of an independent government report and founding Chairman of Sharing Economy UK.

WINNER William Shu, Deliveroo Since founding Deliveroo in 2013, William has overseen the platform's swift transition from a business operating in a single city to a global player in the food delivery market. From working as a delivery rider to gain insight into the everyday realities of the service, to overseeing the raising of nearly $200m to fund UK and international expansion, his outstanding leadership has driven revenue growth by around 25% month on month. Under his guidance the company rapidly scaled up from a UK-based operation to a business spanning 3 continents, 12 countries and 32 cities outside the UK. He has been instrumental in developing partnerships with over 5,000 restaurants in new locations to ensure continued growth. His focus on scalability and his attention to streamlining processes and services across diverse new markets has been key to Deliveroo’s international success.

RUNNER UP

RUNNER UP Frederic Mazzella, BlaBlaCar

Led by passion, Frederic built a peoplepowered transport network based on online interpersonal trust. BlaBlaCar, the world's leading long-distance ridesharing platform, is making travel more affordable, social and efficient. Since 2015 BlaBlaCar has launched its activities in 9 new countries, along with the acquisition of long-standing European competitor Carpooling.com. In that timeframe, BlaBlaCar’s ridesharing community has grown from 14 million to over 30 million members, and employees now number 500 across 22 countries. The $200m raised in series D funding, at a valuation of $1.6bn, will allow the company to further its global expansion strategy.

Riccardo Zacconi, King Closing King’s $6bn acquisition by Activision Blizzard in February 2016 was Riccardo’s biggest and most visible achievement to date. Since joining the company 13 years ago, he’s always looked to the future, building a business that continuously develops more exciting games and explores new ways to serve its players. King now leads the world in creating popular franchises for interactive entertainment. Under his management, King’s games continue to be the top 10 highest grossing on AppStore/GooglePlay in most major markets worldwide. Mobile revenues have grown year-on-year, despite a very competitive market.
