The Shawangunk Wine Trail

New Three Tastings from Family Owned Wineries Did you know that the Hudson Valley has a heritage of French wine making that dates back over 300 years? Today you’ll explore the Shawangunk Wine Trail, where each of these local wineries still follow the tradition of the fine winemaking brought to America by the early French Huguenot settlers in the 1700’s. The first stop will be the Benmarl Winery, the oldest vineyard in the United States. Enjoy a private tour of the vineyard to learn about the wine making process, including a visit to the cellar to discover how grapes are crushed and fermented into wine. After the tour, our guide will lead us in a tasting of six red and white wines. Enjoy lunch at Raccoon Saloon, a local favorite before heading to Glorie Farm Winery where you’ll meet Mary Ellen Glorie, owner of the vineyard and surrounding orchards before finishing the day at Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery with a tasting of six wines and a visit to their distillery, where gin and other spirits are made.

Travel through the Lower East Side to view the remnants of the “Yiddish Rialto” – one of the greatest theatre districts in American History, where every performance – even Shakespeare – was in Yiddish. The day wouldn’t be complete without a kosher meal at Ben’s Deli, famous for their NY-style sandwiches and potato latkes. A highlight of the day: visit the The Jewish Museum where you’ll view the world’s largest collections of Menorahs. Each lamp speaks to a complex interaction of historical events, Jewish law, artistic expression, and personal experience. This is an exclusive exhibit that truly captures the spirit and history of Hanukkah, The Festival of Lights. “Chag Sameach!”
