“I know that my Ursuline education has made all the difference in my life. Ursuline prepared me for success in college and my career, and importantly, instilled values that continue to guide me as a daughter, wife, mother, friend, and community member until this day. As someone who works to enable equitable access to quality education for all young people, I am proud to support the Class of 1984 Scholarship to help give young women the chance for an Ursuline education.”

—Jennifer Flynn Dear ‘84

“I am often reminded of how very blessed I am for the strong foundations of faith, education, empowerment, and Serviam that Ursuline has provided in my life. I am also grateful to have had the opportunity to send my own daughter to Ursuline where she received an outstanding education and got to experience many of the same traditions I did! That is why I am thrilled to participate in my class scholarship which is honoring our classmates and enabling a new generation of exceptional young ladies with family ties to Ursuline to receive the same great education and firm foundation for life that each of us received.”

FRANCES LOCICERO BAILIE ‘61 & KENNETH BAILIE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Frances LoCicero Bailie ‘61 and Kenneth Bailie Memorial Scholarship was established in 2021 by Ellen Mooney Hancock ‘61. Frances and Kenneth were beloved Computer Science professors at Iona College and mentored countless students throughout their careers. As a working mother and grandmother in the field of Computer Science, Frances was a role model for many and even spoke annually to Ursuline computer scientists to encourage them in their studies. As a devoted alumna, she had a deep affection for Ursuline where she enjoyed strong academic and spiritual formation and formed lifelong friendships. This partial merit-based scholarship was awarded for the first time to a student in the Class of 2026.

ESSEX & LORDEN FAMILIES SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

The Essex & Lorden Families Scholarship Award was established in 2021 by faculty member David Lorden and his wife Jessica Essex Lorden in honor of their parents Johanna and Harold Essex and Eleanor and Cornelius Lorden. The Essexes and Lordens taught the importance of education and academic achievement, hard work and diligence, honesty and personal integrity, empathy and compassion. This scholarship award is given annually to a current junior who exemplifies these traits, and serves as a role model and ambassador for the school and community. The recipient is active in programs or extracurriculars at Ursuline and is a “unifier” who works to bring people together around a shared goal or cause.

Saad Family Scholarship

The Saad Family Scholarship was established in 2022 by Joseph and Jane Saad P’22 in gratitude for the wonderful experience that their daughter Lily ‘22 had while at Ursuline. The Saad family believes in the importance of hard work, and that academic excellence should be recognized. Recipients of this partial scholarship are exceptional students who embrace Ursuline core values, exhibit admirable leadership skills, and have a strong desire to attend Ursuline.

MICHAEL G SANTANGELO JR. SCHOLARSHIP

“Helping young people reach their highest potential, one student at a time.”

Ursuline is honored to have been selected for a grant from the Michael G. Santangelo Jr. Foundation to fund a scholarship designated for a student from St. Ignatius School in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. The mission of the Foundation is to assist children in attending and graduating from private high schools, and it has donated more than $375,000 for this purpose. Through the Foundation, Michael Jr.’s spirit continues to help others in pursuing their educational dreams.

#GIVINGTUESDAY FOR SCHOLARSHIP

Since 2019, Ursuline has dedicated Giving Tuesday fundraising efforts to building our scholarship endowment, so that more talented and qualified young women can benefit from all the opportunities that an Ursuline education offers. Experiences in and out of the classroom allow our students to build confidence, develop intellectually, spiritually, and as leaders.

Donations on Giving Tuesday 2021 totaled $42,300 with approximately $30,000 designated toward the Serviam General Scholarship Endowment — an important source of need-based assistance for current and incoming students — and $12,300 toward 21 named scholarships and awards. Thank you for helping Ursuline students become who they are meant to be!
