Back on the Mountain

T

he Hupman Brothers have recently put out their new album Back On The Mountain and will be performing the songs at their CD release concert on November 24th at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville. The new album, their best yet, is an outstanding collection of tunes, all recorded at the Hupmans’ home studio up on the south mountain.

The songs cover a wide array of genres; there’s a little country, a little funk, all rounded out by a few of their classic blues numbers, and all still having that distinct Hupman sound. This album continues on in the acoustic vein of their last album, Loveseat Volume 2, a style that really works for them, and fits with the mountain vibe that ties a lot of the songs together. The lyrics hover around things like garlic patches, broken down barns, bread dough, bacon, and hard work.

This is one of 1500 copies!

As usual, the album has Scott Hupman providing the driving rhythmic backbone to the music, and Ryan supplying his expert vocals and A-1 guitar work. But they have really come upon something wonderful with the addition of Chris Robison and Adam Bazinet on bass and drums. The four of them together have settled into a great sound on this album: a laid-back, brotherly, goodtimey feel that brings the Hupmans to another level musically. Back On The Mountain delivers that same awesome blend we’ve come to expect of Hupman Brothers albums: achingly beautiful love songs, witty wordplay & humour, energetic showmanship, and of course, incredible talent. Come see the show this Saturday at 8pm in the Al Whittle Theatre, tickets are $15 and available in advance at the Rolled Oat Café.

Joel Plaskett Emergency (Windsor, NS) The Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre will welcome Nova Scotia superstars Joel Plaskett Emergency with special guest Mo Kenney on Monday, December 3 at 8:00pm. This is the fourth show in MIPAC's 20122013 Entertainment Series.

Joel Plaskett and his band The Emergency have been a venerable force on the Canadian music scene since 2001. What started out as a project to weather another Maritime winter turned into an interesting music experiment. Plaskett and fellow Emergency band members Dave Marsh and Chris Pennell worked around the clock to write, record, mix and release a brand new song every single week for 10 weeks. The result is the 2012 Polaris Prize long-listed Scrappy Happiness, a strong album that still features the kind of melodic and lyrically

playful rock Plaskett does so well. Mo Kenney is 22 years old and is from Waverly, Nova Scotia. Her debut album, released this past September and produced by Joel Plaskett, garnered instant critical praise and a spawned a legion of fans. She has performed at ECMA, Stan Rogers Festival, Evolve, Nova Scotia Music Week, The Company House, the Carleton, and recently returned from the Iceland Airwaves Festival. Mo’s song “Eden” won the 10x10 video contest during the Atlantic Film Festival. Tickets are $32 for adults, $30 for seniors and students. Tickets are available online at Ticketpro. ca, by phone at 1-888-311-9090, or in person at Windsor Home Hardware and all other Ticketpro outlets.

WOLFVILLE BUSINESS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP

The new owner is Wolfville resident and caterer Amanda Vaz. For the past two years Vaz’s company, The Hip Rose Catering Company, has been serving up contemporary, locally-sourced foods at events throughout the area and weekly at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market. Hip Rose Catering was awarded the Panel’s Pick for the 2011 and 2012 Taste of Valley event, as well as a People’s Choice award at this year’s April Flavours event. Prior to starting The Hip Rose Catering Company,

Vaz was a manager in both retail and hospitality environments for a decade.

Vaz comments, “I am so excited for the opportunity to shape the future of Eos Fine Foods in our community! It is a culmination of many of my passions: high quality food and nutrition, supporting the local economy and its community members, and natural and complementary healthcare.” We find the upcoming changes for Eos, for Amanda and the wonderful community of Eos supporters very exciting, said the current owners. “Through a rich and varied history at the store, we have also had the opportunity to meet and work with an incredible variety of people, listened to their stories, been a part of their

lives as they have ours. We now look forward to new ideas, energy and the delightful enthusiasm Amanda will bring to Eos in it's 40th year." EOS will continue to offer a wide range of natural food products, with efforts being made to incorporate more local fare in the store. The business began as a cooperative in 1973 and the current owners became involved shortly after. It was part of a Maritime distribution network for whole foods. The store has survived two fires through generous community action and support and enjoys a wide following among Valley residents. Finer will stay on as a mentor to Vaz through the business transition and Allain will act as

a consultant to ensure the new owner’s success. "Amanda's love of good food combined,” added Finer, “with a great deal of experience and knowledge gives us great confidence in the future of Eos.” For additional information contact: Amanda Vaz at EOS Fine Foods, 902-542-7103

The Acadia Page The Grapevine

Three Generations (and counting….) A

cadia tradition runs deep and strong in our family, so six years ago when there was a chance to return to Acadia, my husband Michael and I jumped at the opportunity. We looked forward to the homecoming and the prospect of teaching and working at the place that has meant so much to our family.

Our relationship with Acadia goes back many generations. In fact, my grandfather, Rev. Vincent Rushton, was so pleased with the education he received at Acadia that he graduated with six different degrees! My parents, Robert and Barbara (Doyle) Rushton met in Denton Hall, graduated with degrees in Music and were married in the Manning Memorial Chapel. And yes, I met my husband Michael Caines here as well. And (although they haven’t even started elementary school yet) it goes without saying that we hope our boys, Aaron and Liam, will continue the tradition and become fourth generation Acadia graduates. After graduating Michael and I moved to New York City so that I could continue to pursue my Operatic singing career. The ten years we spent in Manhattan were the most exciting, challenging and rewarding of our professional lives. Together we attended some wonderful concerts, saw the best-of-the-best at the Metropolitan Opera, and learned copious amounts from truly great artists. All of these experiences helped to shape us as musicians, performers and teachers. Michael and I had time to dream and plan for what we’d like to do if given the chance to conduct a choir, or teach future singers. Now, because we work together within the School of Music, those years of planning have given us common goals and clear philosophies to create what we had

this choir includes approximately 75 students studying to be musicians. Michael and I felt that each and every one of these prospective music teachers, performers, therapists, and composers deserves to be exposed to the greatest choral repertoire. We work to create a valuable experience for all our singers - no matter what their previous level of musical understanding is. During the past six years we have offered students and members of the University community a chance to participate in Handel’s Messiah, Fauré’s Requiem, K. Jenkins The Armed Man, O. Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass, and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. Our upcoming Christmas concert is on Saturday December 1st at 8pm. “Christmas at Acadia” is comprised of a pot-pourri of beautiful holiday music, including a lovely arrangement of O Holy Night, originally arranged for the Mormon Tabernacle choir. Our concert will feature former Acadia professor, Maurice Tugwell reading inspirational poetry and stories of the season, and University Organist, John Scott leading us in a carol sing and showing his prowess on the beautiful University Hall organ.

previously only dreamed of. While I am Head of Vocal studies, Michael is responsible for the 100 voiced Acadia Chorus. This choir fulfills many roles within the School of Music. It has always been an opportunity to combine community members with student musicians. This was certainly part of the mandate that we felt was important to continue. We also wanted it to be a significant experience in the life of all music students, as

Mozart’s Così fan tutt

(WOLFVILLE) The Acadia Performing Arts Series is pleased to present Mozart’s opera Così fan tutte produced by Jeunesses Musicales of Canada as part of the Desjardins Concerts 2012-2013. This tour will present a company of talented young singers to many communities throughout Quebec and the Maritimes. The Wolfville performance takes place at the Festival Theatre, Acadia University on Wednesday, November 28 starting at 7:30. About Così fan tutte… This year, JMC has decided to enchant you with Mozart and his famous Italian comic opera Così fan tutte. Among all operas presented worldwide, Così fan tutte is no doubt one of the most performed and appreciated by the public. Joy and delight await you in this fanciful and far-fetched story of these two uncommon couples. Literally “Thus do they all”, this 18th century opera tells a tale of jealousy, trickery and mischief.

We invite you to come enjoy the concert and share in this experience that Michael and I feel so blessed to be a part of – Acadia’s School of Music at its best! Dr. Christianne Rushton, Assistant Professor, Head of Vocal Studies, School of Music christianne.rushton@acadiau.ca

Despina and Philippe Bolduc, baritone as Don Alfonso. The pianist is Jérémie Pelletier. The production is directed by Alain Gauthier with musical direction by Louise-Andrée Baril. Wolfville tickets are $34 for adults, $22 for students. For more information or to buy tickets, visit the Acadia University Box Office in person or by phone at 1-800-542-8425, or online at boxoffice.acadiau.ca . The opera is also being presented in Halifax by the St. Cecilia Concert Series on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 pm at the Lilian Piercey Concert Hall, 6199 Chebucto Road. Tickets are available at Bookmark, Spring Garden Road or at the Box Office, 423-0143.

In a staging transposed to early 1960s, Madmen style, stage director Alain Gauthier uses his customary originality to rediscover an opera which, for years, conquered the heart of many music lovers. With the talented pianist Louise-Andrée Baril as musical director, this concert will appeal to a wide audience of connoisseurs and insiders. Let yourself be seduced! The cast features Vania Margani, soprano as Fiordiligi; Charlotte Burrage, mezzo-soprano as Dorabella; Adrian Kramer, baritone as Guglielmo; Aaron Sheppard, tenor as Ferrando; Julie Ludwig, soprano as

Rob Brezsny's

Aries (March 21-April 19) "Don't think about making art, just get it done," said Andy Warhol. "Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art." I encourage you to adopt that mini-manifesto for your own purposes in the coming weeks, Aries. If you're not an artist, simply substitute the appropriate phrase for "making art." It could be "creating interesting relationships," "exploring exotic lands," "changing corrupt political institutions," "fixing environmental problems," or even "making money." The main point is: Focus on doing what drives your quest for meaning, and forget about what people think of it. Taurus (April 20-May 20) A Jungian writer whose name I have unfortunately misplaced made the following observations: "In a man's psyche, the unconscious is experienced as chaotic, filled with violent and irrational processes of generation and destruction. But to a woman's psyche the unconscious is a fascinating matrix of sacred images and rituals which in their wildly contradictory meanings express the secret unity of all life." After analyzing the astrological omens, I suspect that you Taurus men now have an unprecedented opportunity to experience your unconscious as women do. As for you Taurus women: You have the chance to get a vivid, visceral understanding of how true this description of the female unconscious is. Gemini (May 21-June 20) Let's talk about the Decision. I'm referring to the Choice you have been dancing around and fretting about and analyzing to death. By my estimate, there are

The Grapevine

For the week of Nov 22nd at least 15 different solutions you could pursue. But just seven of those solutions would meet the requirements of being intelligent, responsible, and fun. Of those seven, only four would be intelligent, responsible, fun, and enduring. Of those four, only two would be intelligent, responsible, fun, enduring, and the best for all concerned. I suggest you opt for one of those two.

Cancer (June 21-July 22) I'm not necessarily asserting that you need to edit yourself, Cancerian. Only you can decide that. But I will state unequivocally that if there is in fact any editing needed, now would be a good time to do it. You will have extra insight about what aspects of your life might benefit from being condensed, corrected, and fine-tuned. It's also true that the rectifications you do in the coming weeks will be relatively smooth and painless. So look into the possibilities, please. Should you calm your blame reflex? Downsize a huffy attitude? Shed some emotional baggage? Leo (July 23-August 22) How

many times have you been in love, Leo? Just once or twice? Or have you dived into the depths of amorous togetherness again and again over the years? Whatever the case may be, I bet you have strong ideas about the nature of passionate romance and profound intimacy. That's natural and normal. But I'm going to ask you to temporarily forget everything you think you know about all that stuff. I invite you to become innocent again, cleansed of all your mature, jaded, hopeful, and resentful thoughts about the game of love. In my astrological opinion, there's no better way for you to prepare for what will come next.

Virgo (August 23-September 22) A medical research journal reported on a British woman who accidentally swallowed a felt-tip pen. It lay there in her stomach for 25 years. When surgeons finally removed it, they were surprised to find it still worked. I am not suggesting that anything remotely as exotic or bizarre will be happening to you, Virgo. I do suspect, though, that you will soon have an experience with certain metaphorical resemblances

November 22 - December 6, 2012

to that event. For example, you may retrieve and find use for an element of your past that has been gone or missing for a long time.

Libra (September 23-October 22) "Sapiosexual" is a relatively new word that refers to a person who is erotically attracted to intelligence. Urbandictionary. com gives an example of how it might be used: "I want an incisive, inquisitive, insightful, irreverent mind. I want someone for whom philosophical discussion is foreplay. I want a sapiosexual." In the coming weeks, Libra, I suspect you will be closer to fitting this definition than you've ever been before. The yearning that's rising up in you is filled with the need to be stimulated by brilliance, to be influenced by wisdom, to be catalyzed by curiosity. Scorpio (October 23-November 21) In 2007 the band White Stripes did a tour of Canada. One of their final gigs was outdoors in St. John's, Newfoundland. They came on stage, played one note -- a C-sharp -- and declared the performance over. It was the briefest rock show in history. Judging from the current astrological omens, Scorpio, I'm thinking it would be a good time for you to do some almost equally pithy things. You have the potential to be extremely concise and intense and focused in all you do. I urge you to fulfill that potential. Pack every speech, gesture, and action with a concentrated wealth of meaning. Sagittarius (November

22-December 21) Your redesigned thrust vectoring matrix is finally operational. Love those new nozzles! Moreover, you've managed to purge all the bugs from your cellular tracking pulse, and your high-resolution flux capacitor is retooled and as sexy as a digitally-remastered simulation of your first kiss. You're almost ready for take-off, Sagittarius! The most important task left to do is to realign your future shock absorbers. No more than a week from now, I expect you to be flying high and looking very, very good.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19) The plot twists will be intriguing. The actors may be unpredictable, even erratic.

Š Copyright 2012  Rob Brezsny

Blossoming and decay will be happening simultaneously, and the line between wisdom and craziness could get blurry. There's not nearly enough room in this little horoscope to describe the epic sweep of the forces working behind the scenes. Are you willing to confront uncanny truths that other people might regard as too unruly? Are you brave enough to penetrate to the depths that others are too timid to look at, let alone deal with? I hope you are, Capricorn, because that will give you the power to ultimately emerge from the drama with your integrity shining and your intelligence boosted.

Aquarius (January 20-

February 18) Psychologists have done studies that suggest we subconsciously adopt the qualities of fictional characters we read about or see in movies. That's not a problem if those characters are smart, ethical, highly motivated people whose ideals are similar to ours. But if the heroes of the stories we absorb are jerks who treat others badly and make messes wherever they go, our imitative urges may lead us astray. Right now is a crucial time for you to be extra careful about the role models you allow to seep into your imagination. You're especially susceptible to taking on their attributes. I say, be proactive: Expose yourself intensely to only the very best fictional characters who embody the heights you aspire to reach.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

"The fates guide him who will; him who won't, they drag." So said the ancient Greek philosopher Seneca, and now I'm passing it on to you. It's an excellent time for you to think about the issue. Ask yourself: Have you been cooperating with fate so that it has maximum power to shepherd you? Have you been working closely with fate, giving it good reasons to consistently provide you with useful hints and timely nudges? Or have you been you avoiding fate, even resisting it out of laziness or ignorance, compelling it to yank you along? Spend the next few weeks making sure your relationship with fate is strong and righteous.

MIKE UNCORKED:

THE CROSSWORD

No great FEET.... until now!

I

love my feet! Really, how many people say that? I bet you all could if you really thought about what your feet do for you. My feet are my mode of transportation so I get to my job and to events in town. I love to dance and do community theatre so my feet carry me from step to step and on and off stage. My feet walk me around town and through my neighborhood with my partner Ian by my side. I can literally stand up for myself and walk the path that’s laid for me because of my feet. I decided to be nice to my everloyal tootsies by treating them to a pedicure at the In Good Hands Nails and Esthetics spa that just opened at 18 Elm Avenue, in Wolfville. WOW!! If my feet could talk they would say “THANK YOU MIKE”. Owners Alisa & Huu Nguyen, after a lot of hard work and long hours are pleased to announce their dream business is up and running and ready for the public, both men and women! They are open daily, Monday to Saturday from 9-7pm and they have a full range of nail and esthetic services ranging from Anti-Acne and Rapid Exfoliation Facials, Eye and Lip treatments, Chocolate and Mud Body Wraps, Massages and Sauna, just to name a few. There are Waxing treatments, Manicures and my first stab at their expertise - the Pedicure!

As I drifted in and out of massage bliss, I noticed there were some soakings, clippings, rubbings, exfoliating, cuticle repairs and then the final foot massage partnered with the Vanilla and Wild Plum foot lotion that ended the 45 minute pedicure. I had just finished a full day standing up at work , like I always do, and to be able to skip next door to sit in a massaging chair and have my feet pampered was heaven! For anyone suffering the agony of deFEET, I can’t stress enough how incredible this all felt. I give this spa Ten Toes Up! Join Alisa and Huu for their Open House Celebration on Saturday, November 24th from 5-7pm, everyone is welcome to come to the shop, check out what they offer and enjoy some finger foods. Check out the Eminence line of body care products that they carry- which will make great stocking stuffers! You can visit their website for a full list of prices, pictures, and contact information and to book an appointment at www.ingoodhealthesthetics. webs.com. Call with questions at 542-3444 or find them on Facebook. Now, what next? You know, as I type this article I keep thinking about how much I love my HANDS!!

The decor, music, and atmosphere of the spa all set up the scene for a very tranquil and soothing experience. I was at ease immediately. Huu gave me the tour and told me about the space and then sat me down in a massaging chair (have mercy) that I had control over, and he went to work on my feet. It was TOE-riffic! Huu grew up in Vietnam and has had many years of training in all fields of esthetics. He was thorough in his work, calming in his technique and informative about the solutions and machines he was using.

Fisherman’s Stew

Chef Kerina Dykstra / 300-1268 / kerina@letseatns.com / letseatns.com "Winter is coming." For those of you who are familiar with this statement from Game Of Thrones you will be in your happy place with this comforting bowl of tasty goodness! When I worked at the legendary Chez La Vigne restaurant in Wolfville, we served a similar main course. I, as most Chefs do, put my own tasty spin on it. This recipe has been a staple in much of my cuisine partially because it's easy on the waistline but mostly because every time I make it, I get to reminisce on good times at Chez! I hope you enjoy and as always, Have A Tasty Day! -- Chef Kerina.

Fisherman’s Stew • 2 cups Onions, julienne • 2 cups Celery, julienne • 2 cups Carrots, julienne • 2-3 tbsp Olive Oil • 1 cup White Wine • 5-6 cloves Garlic, thinly sliced • ¼ cup Tomato Paste • 2 tbsp Chili Powder • 1 tsp crushed Red Chili Flakes, or TT • 2-3 tsp Ground Cumin • 1 lt Fish Stock • 2 lbs Shrimp (21-30 count) shelled • 2 lbs Mussels, Cleaned and bearded • 2 lbs Basa or Other White Fish diced into ½ inch pieces • S&P TT

Garnish: Juice of 1 Lemon Parsley

Preparation:

Heat the olive oil in a large heavy bottom pot over med high heat. Sauté the onions, celery until tender, approximately 5 minutes. Deglaze the pot with the wine, reduce until almost dry. Add the garlic, tomato paste, chili powder, pepper flakes, cumin and fish stock. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently so it doesn’t stick to the bottom. Reduce the heat to medium low and add the peeled shrimp, basa and mussels. Cover and allow to cook gently until the mussels open (discard any that do not open) and the shrimp and basa are cooked through. Remove the seafood, placing it in a bowl – keep warm. Portion the vegetables between bowls and arrange seafood. Garnish with lemon juice and parsley.

STEAKHOUSE & LOUNGE Open Thursday thru Saturday, 5pm-close

[ Dancing the Fandango ] Somewhere in the north country, Ramona re-read the response Mr. Ells had written to her. Everything outside her window was very Group-of-Seven-esque, and Ramona had carefully huddled herself around the steam lifting off of her coffee mug. It might have appeared, to a perceptive onlooker, that between sips she was attempting to float away by climbing into the steam. Although it is hard to believe, Ramona and steam share a notable kinship. Nevertheless, on this particular morning, the only thing closer to Ramona than steam was the unfolded letter from Mr. Ells. She held the letter like you would hold a dragonfly, and her movements were precise, as she positioned it to best read a particular line once more: Allow me to say, Moan, that the opening paragraph of your letter has reset my time here on the planet.

Ramona smirked with delight, and then stood. She bent down and picked up an iridescent kite that was resting on the floor. Then, with great ceremony, while using her oversized slippers to her advantage, she danced a lively fandango. Her letter and her kite were held high above her head in her tiny fists. The letter, the kite, Ramona’s long hair, and even steam unfurled with her every turn. Between steps, Ramona identified the colours of her kite, aloud, “Black, pink, yellow and gold, my love,” she said into the quiet room where imaginary castanets kept the time. - W. Ells Editor's Note: Creative writing continuation of Rockets & Ramona from last issue

Who's Who: ALAN SLIPP: A PAN-TASTIC ACTOR!!!! I act in plays but I don’t consider myself an Actor. I can entertain an audience but I don’t consider myself an entertainer. Then you take Alan Slipp! Alan IS community theatre in the valley! For years, I have (and I haven’t been alone) admired Alan’s work. He is never one to back down from a challenge and he ultimately dives into the role with great technique and motivation and always comes out on top. Let’s see if he can handle his toughest role to date: The Grapevine Who’s Who subject! Alan Slipp (the name gives me shivers of delight) lives in Wolfville with his delightful wife Erin. He works from home doing layout and design for the Annapolis Valley Music Festival, but his background is theatre and music. Alan graduated from Acadia in 2006 with a BA in Theatre Studies but he’s been acting since he was twelve, when he was involved with the Acadia Theatre Company’s Production of Our Town. Alan has done some paid acting gigs (Noises Off, in 2006) but the bulk of his work has been on an amateur basis. In saying that, Alan’s extensive list of productions is enough to make him a Pro Amateur!

Alan played young Ebenezer Scrooge for almost 15 years in the Fezziwig Family Christmas Frolic and in the last few years has found prime roles in Fezziwig’s Cinderella and Snow White productions. Alan has worked with Centrestage theatre in their productions of Dial M for Murder and 12 Angry Jurors and with Quick as a Wink theatre where he played the role of Edward Fairfax Rochester in Jane Eyre the Musical. Alan’s complete embodiment of Rochester has been hailed by many as his best work to date. He’s also a regular entertainer at Open Mike & Donna, Tuesday nights at the TAN Cafe in Wolfville, where he performs hilarious monologues and entertains the crowd with the rousing songs of Stan Rogers. Alan is also a member of the sketch comedy group The Dead Sheep Scrolls, who perform regularly at Night Kitchen (a new sketch will be unveiled at Night Kitchen on Dec. 1) And, on December 6th, 7th, and 8th you can see Alan as crocodilefearing, Captain Hook in Fezziwig’s 2012 Peter-Pantomime musical Get Hooked, playing at the Festival Theatre, in Wolfville. You don’t want to miss it. I get to share the stage with Alan for the

November 22 - December 6, 2012

third year in a row and it’s going to be PAN-TASTIC! Something many people don't know about Alan is that he was diagnosed in 2000 with Asperger's Syndrome, a neurological condition on the autistic spectrum. Social interaction will always be a challenge for Alan, but doing theatre has helped make it easier for him to connect with people and he’s really looking forward to many more years of entertaining the Valley, and who knows where else! But as long as there are plays to perform, friendly people to entertain, the great University vibe and as long as the Chimney Swift Stout is on tap at Paddy’s, Alan won’t stray too far from home. Mr. Slipp, you’re an asset to Valley Theatre and an inspiration to many, including myself! Thank you for all you’ve taught me... and I know you’re miles taller than me, but I’d look up to you anyway! See you on Stage! ~Mike Butler Brought to you by

On the corner of Front and Central Down on the corner of Front Street and Central Avenue, in the space that was once home to Alex Clavel’s Chez LaVigne and Michael Howell’s Tempest, a new restaurant is being born. Its name is Front & Central; its new owner is Dave Smart, an engineerturned-chef-turned-passionate-restaurateur. In the midst of the restaurant’s transition, I (one of the servers at Front & Central), sat down with Dave to talk about his vision. Here is some of what he had to say about the scope of what he wants his restaurant to be: “I want to make it casual and approachable. Why can’t I do beautiful, fun, delicious, adventurous food,

and offer it in an environment that’s comfortable? There’s nothing more rewarding at the end of the night than to talk to somebody who's jazzed by what they ate. Food is an incredibly special thing to me. I don’t want people to leave feeling full, I want people to leave feeling... full. Full being defined as calorically full, emotionally full and full from the perspective of being cared for.” We're staying open during the transition, so please stop by to see–and taste!–what's going on at Wolfville's newest restaurant. Watch for the hoisting of our Front & Central sign in early December. For more information, call 542-0588. - Michelle Damour

wo days before the TripALady dance I was running around doing errands in Wolfville before my car appointment in Canning. I parked in the Town Centre parking, went to the bank, then to the Dollar Store. As I was finishing there, in comes David, our trusty parking supervisor (you all know him and see him when you drive into the lot), alerting me that I have a flat tire. Arrrggg! However, he also says that he's talked to a man that has a battery fed compressor in his truck out in the parking lot. So we go out, this fine saviour brings his compressor over, we plug in and pump.

In a few minutes the tire was full enough to get me to my appointment in Canning where of course, with the rest of the list, they could fix the tire (and I was only 10 minutes late!) Not only did David take the time to track me down in the store, but he also arranged a solution that saved an expensive garage call or me trying to muscle a tire off! I love living in this community where people look out for each other. Thank you David! - Denise
