The Covelli Centre hosted a Bounce on Ice Party after the Youngstown Phantoms hockey game on Feb. 21. Austintown Bounce provided three inflatables for the postgame party. They brought in a bounce house that was set up right outside of the rink, an inflatable slide on the ice and a 61-foot obstacle course on the ice. This was the first time the Phantoms had a bounce on the ice event. “It’s to kind of not only introduce fans to one of our sponsors, but also to give them another reason to come down and enjoy the hockey game then also have some additional family activities,” said Katie Seminara, Director of Game Day Operations for the Phantoms. There was a goal set up on the opposite side of the ice where children could use sticks and pucks to shoot around with the players. “There’s a huge turnout, I think it’s a pretty big deal. For it being the first time ever, I’m impressed with it,” said Bruce Shepas, co-owner of Austintown Bounce. Austintown Bounce is a sponsor and partner with the Phantoms. They provide two inflatables for the Kids Zone area for children to play in during Phantoms games. “You never know what to expect when you do something like this,” said Seminara. Guests added their personal touches to drink coasters on Feb. 24 at the Austintown library. Austintown librarian Lindsay Platt taught guests how to use Mod Podge to put pictures on a drink coaster to make it personalized. Mod Podge is an all-in-one glue, sealer and finisher that is used for many crafts. Platt had those who registered bring in photos prior to the event so she could scan them on paper to create copies to use for the coasters. When guests came to the event, Platt showed them the process of how to create the coasters. Everyone started out with a blank coaster, applied the Mod Podge, cut out the photo they wanted to use and then add another layer of Mod Podge. Once the Mod Podge dried, there was a spray to use on the coaster so drinks could be set on it without ruining the pictures. There was also black felt available to cut out and put on the bottom of the coasters. The felt would prevent the coasters from sliding around when on a smooth surface. Guests could cut out four small squares of felt and hot glue them on the corners to keep the coaster in place. Platt said around 50 people signed up to make the photo coasters. It was something easy and unique for people to learn and be able to do on their own for another time.

AIS PTA raises money playing Bingo By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Austintow n Intermediate School hosted its second annual Family Bingo night on Feb. 26. The AIS PTA programs hosts several fundraisers throughout the school year to raise money for the students. The funds earned provide activities for the students like room parties, fun day and science fair. “We have a great turn out this year, it’s so much better than last year. Last year we only had around 25 presales, this year we had over 100 presales. It’s really
going good,” said Jennifer Gatto, PTA member and chairman. Students lined up to watch a man making balloon hats and to get one for themselves. There were concessions for people if they wanted to eat, a cutout for people to stick their head through to get a picture and four baskets that would be given away to the winners of a basket raffle. Several rounds of Bingo were played and guests could purchase more cards to up their chances of winning. Instead of stampers, beans were used to cover the numbers so the cards
could be reused for multiple rounds. Most of the adults played Bingo while the children got their balloon hats made. The event lasted three hours and all of the money made will be used for the students and providing different activities. The PTA started organizing the event in November and has worked for months to prepare. The PTA has a few large fundraisers that bring a lot of attention. There is a pep rally in the fall and in the summer there is a golf outing for AIS and Austintown Elementary school.

Austintown recently welcomed Lewis VanHoose as the new Athletic Director.
Austintown welcomes new Athletic Director The Austintown Local School District is pleased to announce that Lewis VanHoose will become the district’s the new Athletic Director as of August. VanHoose, currently the athletic site manager at Olentangy Liberty High School and Equipment Manager for The Ohio State University, will bring his extensive experience in high school and collegiate sports to the district. He will be replacing Rob Conklin, a veteran of education for more than 40 years, who has served as athletic director for eight years. VanHoose also brings along an advanced degree in Sports Leadership from the Concordia University and a Bachelor’s of History and Communication from the University of Dubuque. His degrees, along with his impressive list of previous careers, have more than prepared Lewis to excel as Athletic Director. He has been a part of more than 15 conference and six national championship teams in his career. Working under coaches such as Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel, Lewis is not a stranger to hard work. He has
successfully managed budgets, assisted in the purchasing supplies and equipment for several athletic groups, and according to both Meyer and Tressel, is not afraid to do whatever it takes to get the job done. “I am excited to join the Fitch family and build a positive culture for our athletes and stakeholders,” VanHoose said. “I look forward to helping our athletes learn valuable life skills through the many experiences athletics can provide. The Austintown Local School District has tremendous history of achievement and long standing traditions which I am eager to see continue and build upon to lead us to the next level of success.” VanHoose was one of several candidates for the position, but his experience spoke for itself, which in the end placed him on the top of the prospect list. “We are very excited to bring Lewis on board,” Superintendent Vince Colaluca said. “With his vast experience at OSU and the great foundation Rob Conklin has established, I believe he will bring the program to a new level. He will be a valuable asset to the Falcon family.”

James G. Leone, D.C.
As a family of four, being overweight almost our entire lives, we never thought we could feel this good again (at my age, 72). Many thanks to Dr. James Leone and his kind, helpful staff in Boardman, Ohio for introducing us to The NutriMost Fat Loss Program. We not only lost almost 40 lbs. in 40 days, better health has returned. My husband, age 67, was off his diabetes medicine in 10 days. My daughter & I are off our blood pressure medication and blood pressure is Normal. It was so exciting to get up every morning and see who lost the most weight and start off a brand new day with more energy, fat loss, and better health. Absolutely too good to be true. Many aches & pains are gone. We are anxious to start on our 2nd round of the program to reach our goal weight!! Thanks again. Rudy, Kathryn, Miriam, Kathy D.
