Free breakfast event There will be a free pancake, sausage and egg breakfast on April 9 from 9-11 a.m. at Smith Corners United Methodist Church, located at 3000 S. Canfield Niles Road (on the corner of Kirk Road and State Route 46) in Austintown. Donations will be accepted, and proceeds will go toward World Service Projects.

TQGIBT hosts a thread painting workshop Make a handmade greeting card using thread painting. It’s a special Quilt Happening on April 9 at Fair Park in Canfield, hosted by That Quilt Group I Belong To. Kathy Wolfe will teach this unique workshop from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Doors open at 9 a.m. The cost for TQGIBT members is just $15 – nonmembers is $25 – and lunch is provided. All local stitchers are invited to attend and learn more about this creative art form. Fitch Academic Team qualifies for National Tournament The Austintown Fitch Academic Team won its way right in to the national tournament in Dallas, Texas. The 2016 National Academic Quiz Tournament (NAQT) for the High School National Championship will take place on May 28 and 29 with 256 teams competing. Out of 31 teams in the league, Austintown placed fourth in varsity and second in junior varsity. The team and advisor, Valerie Baiss, would like to thank alumnus Sierra DuBois for her invaluable assistance.

Mercy Health presents free colorectal cancer program and dinner

Mercy Health Youngstown, formerly Humility of Mary Health Partners, will host a presentation on colorectal cancer (the second leading cause of death in the United States) on April 21 at Holiday Inn Boardman. David J. Dunch, MD, a board-certified colon/rectal surgeon, will be the featured speaker. He will discuss the importance of early detection of colorectal cancer, who should be screened and when, and how to reduce your risk. Event raises funds for Habitat for Humanity The Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors is inviting the public to a Reverse Raffle and Dinner fundraiser that will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley. The event will take place on April 28 at The Embassy, located at 5030 Youngstown Poland Road in Boardman. The evening will get underway with cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and then the drawing for the $4,000 grand prize. Yearly basket auction The Tri-Gold Prime-Time Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association is sponsoring its yearly basket auction. to raise money to help out Orlaski and her family. Last year $12,000 was raised for Orlaski to help with her treatment. After Orlaski had a long battle with cancer last school year, it returned this school year. The Austintown school system wanted to help their fellow friend and student and is hoping to attract a large crowd like last year. “Last year I shaved my head to help ra ise money,” sa id Fitzgerald. Ever yone who helped out during the game were volunteers. There were people running the concession stand, selling tickets for the game and selling tickets for a Chinese auction. Jones and Associates Embroidery created the Team Emily shirts for the students and faculty to purchase to help support Orlaski. Aside from the basketball game, there were performances by the Falcon Cadets, the Austintown band and a half court contest. The Austintown community came together help a fellow community member, friend and student while also putting on an entertaining event for Orlaski and several others to enjoy.

Austintown library hosted a St. Patrick’s Day family story time on March 9. Nikki Puhalla, an Austintow n libra ria n, led a fa mily story time that was themed around St. Patrick’s Day. A leprechaun from Kravitz Deli made an appearance to read a couple stories to the children. “We had a nice turnout today, about 12 kids showed up. That’s pretty good for it being in the middle of the week at night,” said Puhalla. Austintown Fitch High School hosted a Souper Supper on March 9. Students from Austintown Fitch High School and Austintown Intermediate School made ceramic bowls that were available to purchase during the Souper Supper event. This year was the seventh year the event has been put on by the Fitch Art Department and the PTA Coun-

cil. The PTA Council consists of the PTA groups from the high school, as well as the middle, intermediate and elementary schools. “The first year the event occurred was in 2009, Karen Weinberg was the founder,” said PTA Council president, Ellen DiFrancesco. The PTA Council started helping in 2012 and took over putting on the event in 2013. Chef Christopher Bonnaci from Christopher’s Downtown

donated the soup; McDonald’s donated the beverages; Ed Demsky, the manager of Rulli Brothers, donated the bread; the Austintown Food Services provided spoons and the PTA members made desserts. Among the donated food were baskets that were up for raffle donated by the Board of Education, the superintendent, the principal team from each Austintown school and each school PTA. Mr. LeFoer, a U.S. Army veteran, was a self-employed attorney in Austintown and retired in 2005.

The person in this job fabricates steel and other metal fixtures, parts, et cetera working from prints and/or drawings. Sometimes works from existing objects to fabricate duplicates. Will perform the following tasks: 1. Fabricates fixtures, parts, brackets, and other objects as directed, working from prints, drawings, and sometimes from an existing object in order to create a duplicate. 2. Cuts, fits, and lays out parts of objects being fabricated using cutting torch, plasma cutter and grinders, as appropriate. 3.
