OSU Extension offers Good Natured Garden Partners program With the Good Natured Garden Partners program, OSU Extension aims to teach children all about gardening and how their food is produced. Participation in the Good Natured Garden Partners program is based off a team structure. A Growing Team may be formed by any group of children, and must be led by an adult volunteer(s). The adult volunteer will fill out a volunteer form in order to receive free seeds and plants for their group, which will then plant a garden and compete for prizes and recognition at the end of summer. Throughout the summer, teams will attend the gardening kick-off event May 27, and are required to attend at least two other gardening events. A garden party on Aug. 12, will wrap up the summer with fellowship, fun and a chance to win prizes for best garden displays, garden harvest and more. Registration deadline is May 17. Canfield High School juniors and seniors brought pageantry and pomp and to the school’s auditorium during the annual PTA-sponsored Prom Promenade on May 4. The students visited the Promenade before
heading to the prom, with the theme “An Evening in Paris,” at The Ma ronite Center in Youngstown. Prior to the introduction of the couples, the audience was treated to piano music played by Canfield elementary and middle school students.
Anticipation filled the air as emcee Gerry Ricciutti annou nc e d t he s t udent s to cheers from an auditorium full of friends and family. With the spotlight on them, each couple walked through a decorated arch on stage as their names were announced to the
crowd. The event is offered each year before the prom to allow families, friends, fellow students and members of the community to come out and see the beautiful dresses, and tuxes, and to support the students on their special night.

Canfield High School seniors and National Honor Society members Isabella Audia and Mariah Cashbaugh had a Spring Sing at the Canfield library on April 13, as their NHS service project.
The sing-a-long was for children of all ages and included a craft, a snack and a kazoo for every child. Audia welcomed the children to the Disney-themed event. “We are really excited to sing and dance with you, and we
a re excited to have ever ybody here. We’re going to sing and everyone can get up and dance,” Audia said. Audia, Cashbaugh and several Canfield High School students led the children in singing and dancing to several Disney songs, including “I’ll

Audia said she chose this project to share her love of singing and dancing with other people. “I wanted combine my love of singing and dancing into one project and I wanted to share that with other people. I wanted to bring what I love to other people, and I wanted to share this with my little brother,” Audia said. Cashbaugh echoed Audia’s sentiments. “I do the musicals at the high school and I wanted to bring that type of feel to this project. I love singing and dancing and I think it’s important to share your talents with other people,” Cashbaugh said.

With the sun peaking through a few clouds, C.H. Campbell Elementar y School students celebrated the school’s annual Beach Day on April 18. The students embraced the sunshine as they dressed in brightly-colored beachwear for the day. Many students got into the spirit of the day by wearing shorts, sandals, swim trunks, sunglasses, sun hats, straw hats, baseball hats, bucket hats, Hawaiian shirts, Hawaiian leis, visors, hula skirts and some even wore flowers in their hair. In the cafeteria, which was decorated with beach balls and sand buckets hanging from the ceiling and many other beach-themed items, tables were cleared away and students enjoyed a picnic-style lunch on their own beach towels and blankets. Beach music played in the background as the children ate their lunch. “Beach Day is a day to celebrate spring and the beginning of spring break,” said Shannon Cox, Beach Day chair. Following lunch, the PTA provided push-ups for the children as they were ushered into the gym for a dance party with a disc jockey. As the music played, students enjoyed playing with beach balls, hula hoops and participating in the limbo. They also danced to “The Twist” and “Baby Shark” and formed a train and made their way around the gym. Several PTA volunteers were on hand to help with the event.

Spring Tea fundraiser at the library The Friends of the Library Canfield Committee will host a Spring Tea featuring James McClellan, vocalist, and Tyler Guerrieri, guitarist. They will present “Two on a Song,” a selection of pop, standards and show tunes. The tea will begin at 2 p.m. on May 19 at the Canfield library; doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Proceeds are used to benefit children’s programming at the Library. Tea sandwiches and sweets will be served with the tea, catered by A La Cart. There will be a basket raffle and 50/50, as well. Bringing your own favorite teacup is optional. Ford Nature Center hosts bunny scavenger hunt By JESSICA HARKER jharker@vindy.com
The Mill Creek Metro Parks hosted a bunny scavenger hunt the week before Easter. Community members were able to go to the Ford Nature Center starting on April 15 to search for the hidden bunnies. More than 20 photos of rabbits, that were found in the Mill Creek Park, were posted on the walls of the center. Each photo was accompanied by an interesting fact about bunnies. Community members that were able to find all 20 rabbits told the front desk who gave them an award. Children got to choose between pencils and other Easter themed treats for their prize. After the indoor search the park encouraged community members to take a hike along one of the many available trails and have a real life scavenger hunt for the local bunny population. This event is a series of holiday themed scavenger hunts hosted by the park. Earlier this year, community members searched the center for turkeys to celebrate Thanksgiving.
