Meet Howard, a very loving cat. He is about 2.5 years old and absolutely adores everyone he sees. He was a stray with Entropion in both eyes so it must have been hard for him on the streets. He since has had surgery and is doing fine. Even though he is a favorite at West Side Cats, Howard would really be happy in a home with someone else to love him. He does great with children and other cats, but no one knows how he would do with a dog, but he may like it. Howard is laid back and peaceful. He came in to the shelter on March 18, so he is past ready to be adopted.
Here is Snickers with his ball at Pawz 2 Adopt in Austintown, OH. Snickers started out at the Trumbull County Pound and now has been at Pawz for about a year. Snickers is such a wonderful dog! I just LOVE him as does everyone else there! We really hope that Snickers gets a home of his own very soon! You can either PM on Pawz 2 Adopt on their Facebook page or call 330-779-1862. and tied a ribbon around it for decoration. There was also a label sticker provided for the guests to put on their jar to show what scent the scrub was. “I can make these at home, they would be good for a party. You can even have cupcakes to put with these at a party too, the same color and flavor,” said one of the guests, LaShonda NarhMartey.
Both children and adults attended the event, and ended up going home with a sweet-smelling body scrub to use for themselves or give to their mothers - or another special woman in their lives - for Mother’s Day. Those who wanted to create more of their own body scrubs were able to take home a packet that Platt printed out with different varieties of body scrubs.

Kritti’s Closet opens its doors By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Austintown Fitch High School hosted the grand opening of its newest project, Kritti’s Closet, on May 3. Donna Burnell, the Family and Consumer Science teacher, created the project on behalf of her sister-in-law, Kristine “Kritti” Burnell-Stickler, who passed away in 2014. The project is sponsored by the Fitch Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Burnell started organizing this project around Thanksgiving. After speaking with Austintown family liaison Nate Armstrong and the rest of the guidance department at Fitch, the guidance department referred students who were in need of supplies to Kritti’s Closet. The department also helped Burnell decide what items were needed. “What we’re trying to do is make sure that the kids have their basic needs met. Once those needs are met, then they can start thinking about other things,” said Burnell. Everything in Kritti’s Closet was donated by alumni, students, faculty and the community. Burnell said when the word has gotten out, people were more than willing to donate. “After my speaking during the Board meeting, people have really been donating. It’s just been
humbling,” said Burnell. A project for next year that Burnell is working on is to provide crock pots and two frozen meals for students to take home for the weekend. The students will learn how to use the crock pots to cook meals for themselves and their families at home. Students in Burnell’s classes and other aids will prepare the frozen meals. Another project in the making is one thought of by some of the female students at Fitch. The
project is called the “Period Project,” with the slogan “serious period patients only.” The goal is to put a little basket of female supplies in every female restroom in case of an emergency. “They can just grab one and there will probably be a change jar if they want to donate, then they can go on their way. It’s convenient for students,” said Toniann Minardi. Kritti’s Closet will be open throughout the school year and during lunch periods for stu-
dents. Students may also contact their guidance counselors if they wish to visit Kritti’s Closet outside of their lunch periods. The project isn’t just for those students who are in need. If someone spilled something on their clothes or got them dirty, they can grab something from Kritti’s Closet to wear for the rest of the day. “I wouldn’t know what to do without my staff. The help has been absolutely amazing,” said Burnell.

Sky high kite flying at Mill Creek MetroParks By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Mill Creek MetroParks hosted its annual Kite Fest on April 30 at the Wick Recreation Area. The sky was filled with several different colors, shapes and designs of various kites that people brought and came to look at for the festival. Mill Creek MetroParks partnered with Ohio Society for the Elevation of Kites to help create the event. Members from the society brought their expertise in kite flying to the park. The event was open to the public for people to watch the kites and fly their own. The giant field was open for guests to fly their kites without having to worry about

running into one another or having multiple kites get tangled. Children ran trying to fly their kites as the parents watched and tried to help. One of the favorite objects among the children was a giant bubble machine. People lifted up wands that were dipped into the bubble solution and huge bubbles blew in the wind. Many of the children chased the bubbles and tried to pop them. The children could also participate in other crafts that Mill Creek MetroParks provided. There were supplies to create your own kite and create other sky crafts. The event lasted for five hours and several people attended to watch from afar and to take part in flying their own kite.
