West Side Cats would like to introduce you to Oreo, a sweet, loving and friendly black female cat. She is roughly 11⁄2 years-old. She did come in with Alopecia, most likely because of over grooming herself, or possibly because of stress. Her hair is coming back in quickly. Oreo doesn’t like other cats and stays to herself. She loves children. The shelter doesn’t know how she would react to a dog. Stop by and see her. WSC is open from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Handsome Mr. Winston is still looking for the perfect country home. He needs room to run and play. He would like a home with other dogs, where he can romp around and be a dog. City life isn’t for him. Pawz 2 Adopt is not sure how he does with little children, but an older child would be a great companion for him. The shelter doesn’t know how he does with cats, he may chase them. Contact Nancy Ferrell Logero with Pawz 2 Adopt if you are interested in giving him the loving home this guy needs.

The Commons at Greenbrier hosted the third annual car cruise on June 22 for residents and community members. The car cruise brings in 250350 people each year to look at cars, enjoy music and spend an evening outside. There was a 50/50 raffle for guests to participate in to win several sets of prizes. Hot dogs, water and root beer floats were available for free thanks to donations and sponsorships from various companies. Fred Martin Ford in Austintown donated all the hot dogs and hot dog buns. Having the car cruise at the Commons at Greenbrier gives the residents an opportunity to have an interactive event outside, rather than watching an outdoor concert or movie. The car cruise allows community members to support other community members. Many of those who bring in cars are members of the community who enjoy restoring cars to show off and help others restore cars. The car cruise brings the community to the residents. The event provides the residents with a different experience that they might not normally attend. “It’s really important because we love our residents so much. They’re our entire world. Dogs and owners learn freestyle dancing at the park By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com

MetroMutts of Mill Creek MetroParks hosted a Dancing with your Dog event on June 15 at the Slippery Rock Pavilion. Katie Costello, owner of The Learning Dog, taught guests and their dogs Canine freestyle. Canine freestyle dancing is a choreographed performance that is organized with music. The choreography the dogs are taught is based off basic training the dogs have previously learned. Julie Bartolone, the MetroMutts organizer, puts together several events for dogs and their owners throughout the

year. They go on hikes, dog dance, dog art and many more activities that incorporates both human and dog. This was the first time Bartolone orga n i zed a Da ncing with your Dog event. The L ea r n i ng Dog work s w it h Bartolone and MetroMutts to put on several of the activities that are planned for the year. Dancing with your Dog was free for MetroMutts members, but non-members paid a small fee to attend. Costel lo sta r ted out t he class by teaching the dogs and their owners small parts one at a time before putting anything together. Once the dogs got the hang of the steps, the

pieces were slowly combined until each separate step was turned into one dance. Costello turned on music and the dog and human pairs demonstrated the choreography with the music. “We try to do new things, this is a new thing. After, I’ll talk to Katie and ask ‘what can we do?’ to see how we can make it

Barb Marks, retiring teacher at Robinwood Lane Elementary, led the fourth-grade students out of the building on the last day of school on June 7 for the clap out.

Students make unique exit on last day By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com

Robinwood Lane Elementary students made quite an exit after their last day of school on June 7. As the fourth-grade students walked out of the building when the day was over, the younger students, staff members and parents gave the students an ovation. Every year, Robinwood does a clap out for the fourthgrade students to celebrate their last day at Robinwood before going on to fifth grade. “We have one teacher who’s retiring and she will lead the

fourth grade out and they’ll clap everybody out. Then the whole school gets clapped out then they leave. It’s really nice,” said Nicole Haggerty, a teacher at Robinwood. This year the students were led out by Barb Marks, a retiring Robinwood teacher. The family members standing outside waiting for the students applauded as all of the fourth-grade classes exited the building. The clap out was the last time the fourth-grade students would leave Robinwood as a student. They are entering Boardman Center Intermediate School for fifth grade after the sum-

mer. The group of fourth-grade students graduating from the Boardman elementary schools will be the first group of fifthgrade students to be at the new Boardman Center Intermediate. Some of the students got on the bus and some went home with their parents, but all of them made sure to say their good-byes before departing for the summer. The teachers and faculty gave their students hugs and wished them luck as they prepared for a new school with new friends and teachers.
