He demonst rated how one red ball could be turned into multiple balls and switch out of his hand to the volunteer’s hand. Most of the tricks Wawrzaszek performed were solo tricks, but he still actively engaged w ith the audience members. He performed a variety of tricks such as pouring water in a newspaper and having it disappear to using three solid, metal rings and have them connect and pull apart. T h roug hout t he show Wawrzaszek tried to incorporate Olympic themed tricks and also encouraged reading. He brought up the summer reading program several times and did a trick about “Airhead Rudy,” a boy who spent his entire summer doing nothing but watching television and his head turned into air. “I love doing library shows for two reasons because when I got started in magic 50 years ago, I got started in section 793.8 at my hometown library. I found a magic book and it sparked my interest, I’ve been doing what I love ever since. The other reason I love doing library shows is because libraries always have the best audiences on the planet,” said Wawrzaszek.

Canfield Fair steps up measures for Swine Flu The Canfield Fair will remove all hogs from the fairgrounds at the closing of the fair on Sept. 1, following the judging and auctions. The decision was reached after careful consideration and discussions with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, the United States Department of Agriculture, the State Veterinarian and the Canfield Fair Veterinarian.

Due to the recently confirmed cases of H3N2 – commonly known as Swine Flu – at an Ohio county fair, the Canfield Fair is taking all necessary steps for the health and safety of fairgoers. “While it is unfortunate we cannot host the hogs for the duration of the Fair, we want to honor the time and commitment the junior fair contestants have put in to the raising of

these animals, but still keep the health of our fairgoers a top priority, ” Bev Fisher, Canfield Fair Manager, said. The Canfield Fair encourages fairgoers to visit its website, canfieldfair.com, for further updates on the situation. Summer reading comes to a close with ice cream and more By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com

The Poland library hosted an Ice Cream Bash and Games Galore program on Aug. 9 to celebrate the summer reading program coming to a close. Annette Ahrens and Amanda Kollar, youth librarians at Poland library, put together an afternoon event filled with different games, a craft and ice cream. The children could choose from a ring toss, a bean bag toss, Cornhole, bowling, making an Olympic torch and eating ice cream. Children of all ages attended the event with their families and friends to celebrate. The sum-

mer reading program stared June 1 and ran through Aug. 13. The program gave children the opportunity to attend certain events at the library and read books to earn points. The more points a child earned, there were different rewards. Many of the children played games and made crafts before eating ice cream. They could choose from chocolate, vanilla or blueberry cheesecake ice cream. With the summer reading program coming to a close and school starting in a couple weeks, the libraries are creating fun events for the children to attend before going back to Neighbors | Alexis Bartolomucci school. Children made an Olympic torch at the Poland library on Aug. 9 while celebrating the end of the summer reading program event.
