WINSTON
Beautiful Leah is available for adoption. She is getting worried that she may never get out of the shelter. She is sweet and lovable, and is said to be good with cats. She seems to do well with the other dogs and loves people. She would love to have a nice yard to run and play in. Bring your resident dog to the shelter or make arrangements for a home visit. Leah is patiently waiting for her chance at a better life. Message the shelter on its Facebook page, Pawz 2 Adopt, or call 330-779-1862 if you can give a home to Leah.
Help find Winston a home! He is a coonhound mix, about 70 or so pounds, possibly 6-years-old, with lots of energy. He would like lots of room to run. If you are interested in meeting Winston, call 330779-1862 or send a personal message to Pawz 2 Adopt on its Facebook page. If you would like to adopt Winston, you can fill out an application on the Facebook page or give the shelter a call.

The fee to register for the camp was $150, but with the help of several sponsors, children received scholarships for camp. The camp allows families to help their children stay in a schedule and keep a routine while on break from school. This is the only camp like this in the area for children. Twenty children participated in the summer camp and 14 peers helped out. “Our peer role models are acting like models for what the children should be like,” said Dobson.

Beeghly Oaks residents piece together puzzles with teamwork By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
The residents at Beeghly Oaks Rehabilitation Center have been working throughout the week of Aug. 22-26 to complete a puzzle first and win a prize. Residents were divided into a red team, a black team and a pink team. All three teams had team-colored hats, balloons and cheerleaders to cheer them on. During the week, the residents had one hour each day to get as
much of the puzzle completed as possible. “The first team that finishes is going to go out for a night on the town. We are going to do an awards presentation for the first, second and third prize,” said Maureen McCarty, Activities Directory at Beeghly Oaks. The 300-piece puzzles created the opportunity for residents to work together as a team to accomplish a goal. Participating in the puzzle contest allowed the residents to spend quality time
with each other and with the faculty at Beeghly Oaks while doing something fun and competitive. The three teams received the same puzzle to create an equal chance of winning for every team. The puzzles were all completed by the end of the week the black team in first place, the red team in second and the pink team in third. All of the teams received a certificate showing their participation and completion of the puzzles.

Boardman Tag Day An Evening with

Members of the Boardman High School Band and Orchestra will be out in the neighborhoods of Boardman on Sept. 24 collecting donations door-to-door. This Tag Day has been an annual tradition for more than 40 years. The proceeds from this event mainly benefit the uniform fund, which always needs replenishing for the next uniform purchase. The responsibility for replacing worn uniforms is solely that of the Boardman Band and Orchestra Parents, Inc. No state or local tax money is allocated for uniform purchases. In addition to canvassing the neighborhoods, some students will be collecting in front of some local businesses. Traditionally, students give donors a “tag” thanking them for their support. Orchestra students will be wearing maroon shirts and khaki pants, while the band students will be dressed in their band uniforms. The generosity of the community has been important to the success of our music programs. Boardman Band and Orchestra concerts are free to senior citizens, which is one of the ways that they thank the community for their generous support. For more information about the Boardman Spartan marching band, go to www.boardmanband.org. The website for the Boardman High School orchestra is www.boardmanorchestras.org. Senior Nick Digiacomo took third overall out of 117 runners on Sept. 10 at The Dover Invitational at Dover City Park. The Spartans finished second out of nine schools, improving their varsity season mark to 30-6 overall. Aiding in Boardman’s score was freshman Mitchell Dunham in eighth place. He was followed by senior Nathaniel Ams in 14th place. Senior Matt Maroni and junior Jimmy Lagese finished 29th and 30th over-
all to round out the scoring for Boardman. “Today was a true test,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips, “Several guys were missing and the temperature at race time was over 90 degrees with oppressive humidity, but our guys hung tough and had a solid day as a team.” This week’s BW-3 ‘Runner of the Week’ Award went to junior Jason Fabian for his effort at Dover and West Branch in the previous week.
Boardman places 12th at Spartan Invitational Boardman’s Chris Butler raced to an 11th place finish, outpacing more than 500 varsity competitors, to lead Boardman High School to a 12th place finish out of 46 Division I schools from Ohio and Pennsylvania at the 31st Boardman Spartan Invitational on Sept. 17 on the campus of Boardman High School. The Spartan varsity is now 6317 on the season. Boardman had the program’s best finish at the home invitational since back-to-back second place finishes in 2012 and 2013. The Spartans had the best score from area teams and was third best of the teams from the OHSAA Northeast District that ran. “Very pleased with our team’s
performance,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “This was the largest and most talented Spartan Invitational in history and I challenged our seniors to get our team to make a statement about our program today and they certainly did.” Scoring for the Spartans were Butler, senior Nick Digiacomo in 31st place, junior Mark Moradian in 110th, senior Nathaniel Ams in 153rd and junior Luke Hetzel in 157th. Kravitz Deli opens new locations Kravitz Delicatessen is now 77 years young. Starting on the Northside of Youngstown in 1939, Kravitz is opening two new locations. K r av it z’s I n spi re d C a fe opened on Sept. 6 inside the Canfield library and features beverages, pastries, soups to go and light sandwiches. It is the second library location for the Kravitz family; the first opening seven years ago in the Poland library. Kravitz’s Inspired Catering is the exclusive caterer for the Poland and Canfield libraries, and is the preferred caterer through out the library system, offering catering in Austintown and Boardman even when the libraries are closed. On Sept. 21, Kravitz will open Kravitz’s at the Garden Café inside the DD Davis Center at Fellows Riverside Garden in the Mill Creek MetroParks. This location and will feature soups, sandwiches, salads, baked goods and specialty beverages, like milkshakes and smoothies. The café will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Tuesday through Sunday. Sunday will be a brunch featuring an endless made to order omelet bar. Kravitz at the Garden Cafe will be family friendly with a menu designed to appeal to everyone. “We have a kid’s menu, half ruebens, beautiful salads, milkshakes, pastries and daily specials. Certainly everyone can find something to eat here,” said Kim Rydarowicz, the manager of the cafe. Check out the view from the wall of windows overlooking the lake and the park. It is one of the most picturesque settings in The Valley. The expansion is part of the Inspired Catering ser v ices started by Kravitz Delicatessen last year. According to Jack Kravitz, owner of Kravitz Delicatessen, “We are using our expertise in retail to expand our business into locations that have both a retail and a catering side. Inspired Catering has an awesome team featuring Chef Chris
Pinter and events coordinator Patty Rydarowicz. Without the team, Kravitz would never be able to take on these new endeavors. Combining retail and catering expertise is a winning combination and has allowed Kravitz to expand.” Most people don’t know that Kravitz does high end catering. “It’s the best kept secret in the Valley” explains Patty Rydarowicz. ”People think Kravitz and they think corned beef, and are surprised to see beautiful plates of tri-color shrimp cocktails, vegetarian phyllo pastries, chef carved prime rib, vegan entries and elegant mousse for dessert.” Inspired Catering means offering unique entrees and displaying them with a special flare. The Board of Directors of Millcreek MetroParks has named Kravitz Inspired Catering as the exclusive caterer for the DD Davis Center. “We are so excited,” said Kravitz. “A year ago when we launched Inspired Catering we never expected the growth. We are both humbled and elated by being named the sole caterer for the most beautiful venue in the Valley.” Kravitz Inspired Catering is the exclusive caterer for the DD Davis Center, Poland library, Canfield library and Temple El Emeth. Liberty is still the flagship venue for Kravitz. Besides being one of the busiest places on St Patrick’s Day, Kravitz will be hosting its fall event, Oktoberfest. This year marks the third annual authentic Oktoberfest featuring four German Bands, German food, games and - of course - German and Oktoberfest drinks. The event will take place on Oct. 7 with the Old Munich Fish Fry with live music by Eintract, Oct. 8 with an authentic German menu of bratwurst, potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage, pretzel bagels and German potato salad. Music will be by Polka Revolution and Phil Yan. Oct. 9 brings the Saxon Club Brass Band and the Bavarian Brunch.
