TONY
At Angels For Animals in Canfield, there is a beautiful young lady cat named Ella! Ella is a very dignified Tortie who was born on March 10, 2013. She came in to the shelter on Nov. 4, 2015 so she is more than overdue at finding her Furrever Home! She was returned to Angels when a landlord changed hands and said “no cats allowed.” That was a sad day for Ella. Her ID # is A088312. If you would like to meet Ella, stop by and see her. She is very loving and gets along with the other cats in their room.
Tony is waiting at Angels For Animals until she finds just the right person to take her home. She is a beautiful orange and white Tabby cat that is declawed. When she came in on July 27, she was timid but is doing very well now. Unfortunately she was brought in due to a death in the family. Tony’s birthday is Jan. 6, 2013, so she is going on 4-years young! Her ID number is A144801. Call 330-549-1111 or come in to Angels and let them know you are interested in meeting Tony. She is a wonderful feline!

MCCTC engineering students took a tour of a local oil plant to learn what it takes to become an engineer. Pictured are, from left, Charles Cole, Brandon Wareham, Austin Frank, Eric Cornelius, Ezra Lazar, Spencer Killian, Korron Devoe, Joshua Collins, Juan Gonzalez, Walter Baber (Engineering Instructor), Najii Robinson, Dylan Stephans, Alexandria Nall, Justin Lamancusa, Wesley Gilbert and Andrew Gretsinger.
MCCTC students tour Vallourec Star Eng i neer i ng st udents at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center had the unique opportunity to tour Vallourec Star in Youngstown recently while learning about the importance of safety in the engineering field. Vallourec Star is North America’s leading producer of seamless Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG), Line & Standard Pipe, Coupling Stock and Mechanical Tube. Sixteen students, along with Engineering instructor
Walter Baber, spent most of the day learning about the different fields of engineering, what the salaries look like, as well as what is needed to get a job at a place like Vallourec Star. “The students discovered the role safety plays in a large operation such as Vallourec Star,” Baber said. “However, the real eye opener for the students was the need for skilled labor and the fact that Vallourec requires at least a two year degree for the majority of the positions at the
facility.” Students that are enrolled in the engineering program at MCCTC get a taste of civil engineering, architecture, aerospace engineerinwg, digital electronics, engineering principles and design during their junior year, then focus more on one for their senior year. For more information about the Engineering program at MCCTC, visit http://mahoningctc.com/engineering-pltwtraining-course.html.

Austintown Fitch High School students who participated in the Friends4Friends Film Festival stood with their advisor, Bill Klein, after the awards ceremony on Sept. 22.
Film Festival brings awareness to difficult issues By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Au st i ntow n Fitch H ig h School participated in the fourth annual Friends4Friends Film Festival on Sept. 22 at DeYor Performing Arts Center. This is the fourth year that AFHS has participated in the Friends4Film Festival. The festival is put on by Ok, Inc., an organization to help young people create healthy relationships and strong character. They provide educational programming that is associated with health concerns younger people may be facing like alcohol and drug abuse, bullying and dating or sexual violence. Friends4Friends Film Festival included five different schools this year. The students had the opportunity to choose their own topic. The topics included issues that are relevant in middle and high school that students deal with almost daily. The students at Fitch started making their video in February and finished it up in the beginning of June. The topic the students chose was sexual assault.
Last year the students created a film on bullying and won the award for Best Film. “They did a great job, it was really outstanding. It was tough because it’s a sensitive topic,” said Bill Klein, the student’s advisor at Austintown Fitch. There were about 12 Fitch students who participated in creating the film. They would stay after school and volunteer their free time to create a film that they were proud of. The festival showed all of the videos that five schools created. Between videos, there were live performances from the students and other guests. The last performance of the night was put on by the Austintown Fitch choir. At the end of the festival, awards were given out and the students had the chance to go on stage a receive a trophy. The Austintown Fitch students are looking forward to continue creating videos for the Friends4Friends Film Festival and help bring awareness to topics that students are dealing with.
