Here is Marty McFly. Marty came in to Angels for Animals on Sept. 13. He was sadly homeless up until that point. He weighs just about 13.6 pounds, so he doesn’t take up very much room, but he will give you enormous amounts of love. Come meet Marty McFly at the shelter, or call 330-549-1111 and tell them Marty’s ID number is A147159. Marty is one of a kind!
Meet Fluff! Fluff hangs out in this cat condo due to being a tad afraid, but she has plenty of potential with someone who wants to work with her. Fluff came in to Angels for Animals on Sept. 9 and really needs to find a home of her own. She is 5-years-old and is a front paw declaw. Her owner was moving and couldn’t take her with them. She is very beautiful – sleek and black. Call Angels at 330-549-1111. Give them Fluff’s ID # A146969. She is looking for a second chance – it is not her fault that her people moved without her. Fluff is scared and sad, but she wants to come around, and will with your love.

Greenbriar hosts Cat-urday adoption event By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Greenbriar Healthcare Center hosted a cat adoption event on Sept. 17 for the residents and the public to come play with the cats and consider adopting one. All of the cats are available for adoption through the Animal Charity of Ohio in Canfield. Several kittens were brought in along with two adult cats. People were able to stop by Greenbriar to look at the cats from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Many of the residents from Greenbriar came to play with the cats. One of the residents also filled out an application to adopt a kitten she felt a special bond with. There were several people who showed up to play with the cats and get more information on adopting. All of the cats brought to Greenbriar are in foster care so they aren’t seen as much as the ones who stay in the shelter. The first to arrive were five kittens who were all siblings, next was a mother cat who came with her three babies and finally Faith, an adult calico. There are currently 30-40 cats at the Animal Charity waiting to be adopted. The Animal Charity of Ohio is running a special for cat adoption. Anyone looking to adopt more than one cat can get two adult cats for $80 or two kittens for $100, which includes a spay or neuter and the vaccinations.

Theft: Police at Boardman Area Court on Market Street took custody of 40-year-old Bartholomew Mascarella of Shields Road, Boardman, who faced a theft charge related to a July 15 incident in which a Struthers woman had reported a ladder and a power washer missing from her father’s Shields Road residence. Students Sebastian Heinonen, Nicholas DiGiacomo and Simon Pusateri, along with Principal Cynthia Fernback, celebrated their National Merit Scholar honors.
Three National Merit Scholars named in Boardman Principal Cynthia Fernback of Boardman High School recently announced that three Boardman seniors are receiving recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Sebastian Heinonen and Simon Pusateri have been named “commended students” in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. Nicholas DiGiacomo has been recognized as a semi-finalist, and is one of 16 thousand scholars across the nation to advance
in the National Merit Scholarship Program. As such, DiGiacomo will compete for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about 33 million dollars to be offered next spring. Heinonen and Pusateri are among 34,000 commended students throughout the nation being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2017 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, commended students
placed among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. “This is quite an honor for these young men, and shows their motivation and dedication to learning, as well as recognizes them among the most academically talented high school seniors,” said Principal Cindy Fernback. “We are extremely proud of these three Spartans.”
