Best dressed Hawaiian gal will win a prize. They will also be collecting items for the children at Beatitude House to give to their mothers for Christmas. LESTAT
At Angels For Animals in Canfield, there is the beautiful Ella. Ella is a very dignified Tortie who was born on March 10, 2013. She came in to the shelter on Nov. 4, 2015. She was returned to Angels when the landlord changed hands and told her former owner that no cats were allowed. Her identification number is A088312. If you would like to meet Ella, stop by Angels For Animals to see her. She is very loving and gets along with the other cats in their room.
This timid little kitty is named Lestat. Lestat is a handsome gray/blue smoky guy at about 5-months-old. He will definitely need someone to work with him to get over being scared. He should be the only cat in the household, at least for awhile, but he does get along with other cats in the room so maybe one other cat would help him come out of his shell. He loves to play! Lestat’s identification number is A141087.

Band students raise money at pasta dinner By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
The Poland Seminary High School band hosted its annual pasta dinner on Oct. 2 at the PSHS cafeteria. The Poland Band Parents organize the pasta event every year for the last 15-20 years. The money raised from the dinner goes to the PSHS marching band students, who are under the di-
rection of Nick Olesko and Jeff Hvizdos. The profits are used for traveling, camps and other marching band expenses. The pasta dinner brings in around 800-900 people each year and raises around $4,000. The dinner is the biggest fundraiser, aside from TAG day, for the PSHS marching band. There are more than 150 students in marching band who will be receiving money for band expenses.
“In the past they’ve traveled to Universal, Disney World, Cedar Point. This year they are working toward their accounts for Disney next year,” said Melissa Kellgren, one of the PSHS band parents. Band students and parents volunteered to work the pasta dinner and make things run smoothly. The volunteers spent the day cooking pasta, setting up tables in the cafeteria and passing out food to the guests.

The Boardman Rotary Club hosted its 40th annual Oktoberfest at Boardman Park on Oct. 2. Thousands of people made their way to Boardman Park to celebrate Oktoberfest by exploring more than 150 vendors and eating food from 15 different food trucks. The event ran from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. with plenty of activities, vendors and performances to enjoy. The Rotary Club’s co-chairs Joe Ignazio and Ted Thornton, along with the other members of the Rotary Club, work tediously year after year to make the event a
success. “Everything we make here goes right back to the community. Not only for Boardman, but for Youngstown and North Lima,” said co-chair Joe Ignazio. The event is always offered on the fourth Sunday after Labor Day and is weather-driven; the nicer the weather, the more people who come out to attend. A children’s area with drums, cornhole, a bounce-a-round and arts and crafts is available for children of all ages to participate in. There were stations for face painting, pumpkin paintings and plenty of dogs to pet. Boardman Rotary Club has hosted Oktoberfest at Boardman Park for all 40 years and plans on

continuing to host the event there for future Oktoberfests. Admission is $3 for adults and children older than 12-yearsold. There is free parking onsite and free parking off-site with a shuttle to take guests to Boardman Park. “The first time we had it, it was 1,000 people and now it’s crazy. We give back about $5060,000 a year and we don’t keep one penny of it,” said Ignazio. Oktoberfest is a long-standing tradition that attracts several people. It is the largest fundraiser for the Boardman Rotary Club to collect money and donate back to the community.
