LESTAT
At Angels For Animals in Canfield, there is the beautiful Ella. Ella is a very dignified Tortie who was born on March 10, 2013. She came in to the shelter on Nov. 4, 2015. She was returned to Angels when the landlord changed hands and told her former owner that no cats were allowed. Her identification number is A088312. If you would like to meet Ella, stop by Angels For Animals to see her. She is very loving and gets along with the other cats in their room.
This timid little kitty is named Lestat. Lestat is a handsome gray/blue smoky guy at about 5-months-old. He will definitely need someone to work with him to get over being scared. He should be the only cat in the household, at least for awhile, but he does get along with other cats in the room so maybe one other cat would help him come out of his shell. He loves to play! Lestat’s identification number is A141087.

Children decorate Halloween treats By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
T he Suga r Showc a se i n Austintown hosted its holiday edible activity days on Oct. 14 and 15. Sugar Showcase, owned by Cheryl Bair, hosts edible activity days for different holidays throughout the year. This is the sixth year the Halloween event has occurred. The first holiday event was for Easter where guests could decorate a choco-
late bunny. Guests who attended the event paid $6 to choose from a sugar skull or a caramel apple dipped in chocolate, white chocolate or cinnamon chocolate to decorate. More than 500 people participated between the two-day event. When the event first began 50-60 people would attend. “It’s very, very cute and it’s very surprising how creative the kids can be,” said Raquel Scheetz, Bair’s daughter.

Children worked on decorating their sugar skulls during the edible activity day on Oct. 15 at Sugar Showcase in Austintown.
The event usually takes place during a weekend when the children have off school. It allows the children to come and decorate their candy items however they want without making a mess at home and someone telling them “that’s enough.” Many children of all ages attended the event to decorate a treat of their choice. There were several different colored icings, sprinkles and other candies and decorations to use. “We try to keep it very reason-
able because it’s more about getting them into the activities and having fun,” said Scheetz. When the children are done decorating, they can eat their candy apple or sugar skull. Most people keep the sugar skulls as a decoration because they can last years and years as long as they don’t get wet. The next edible activity holiday event will be in December for Christmas where people can decorate cookies for Santa.

The Austintown U13 boys soccer team participated in the Madison Invitational on Nov. 5 and 6 and took the tournament by storm. Coming in as underdogs and playing up an age bracket didn’t stop these fierce Falcons. The Austintown Falcons took on Canfield, Cleveland United and the Rangers, outplaying all three teams for a spot in Sunday’s championship game against Canfield. While the Falcons did allow Canfield one score in the first minute of the game, they fought, defended and worked together to take the win by outscoring Canfield 2-1. The team work and dedication of these boys, together with Coach Totterdale and Coach Morton’s guidance, brought them to victory and the championship title. Pictured are, from left, Anthony Colantone, Tyler Long, Justin Mosser, Josiah Berni, Kyle Totterdale, Devin Winford, Nick Foley, Dillon Morton, Evan Sahli, Erik Vargo, Adam Emrick, Randy McCloskey, Anthony O’Hara, Dawson Schertzer, Will Ferrante, Nick Tibolla, Ryan Mlynarski and Jake Rutter.

Family-friendly fall fun takes place at Boardman Park By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Hundreds of people went to Boardman Park on Oct. 14, 15 and 16 to carve pumpkins for the annual Great Pumpkin Carve-Out contest. Pumpkin-carvers showed up with their families and friends to carve the perfect pumpkin. The event was created more than 30 years ago and has grown to become bigger each year. More than 400 pumpkins are carved each year.
The event is weather-driven and the nicer the weather, the more people attend. Families have turned this event into a tradition they attend each year. Aside from pumpkin car v ing, families could roast s’mores and hot dogs over a fire, enjoy food from food trucks, a rock wall and a bounce-a-round. Boardman Park buys the pumpkins from a local grower and allows a guest to pick out a pumpkin for a small donation.
During the judging on Sunday, there would be an award for each age group. After the carve-out, families could enjoy a ride on the Haunted Family Hayrides on Oct. 14 and 15 or go trick-ortreating during the Boo Thru the Woods event on Oct. 16. Several activities take place at Boardman Park throughout the month of October to celebrate Halloween and providing family-friendly activities to participate in.
