Schools give thanks The Boardman Board of Education, the administration and the school staff want to let voters know that the schools appreciate their support. A combined renewal levy on this year’s ballot not only passed, but did so by nearly 4,000 votes, a 60 percent voter approval. The 5.5mill renewal levy will continue to bring in approximately $4.6 million per year for the district for the next 10 years. The renewal levy does not change the tax rate, meaning no additional taxes for residents.

questions. The Paint and Taste event provided an opportunity for family members of the residents to come and enjoy an activity together at Beeghly Oaks. It was a way for the resi-
dents to participate in something outside of their normal activities. One of the resident’s granddaughters, Dani, came to the Paint and Sip to spend time with her grandmother. Dani is preparing to paint a mural at Beeghly Oaks in the near future. There were also residents
who didn’t paint, but came to the event for entertainment. McCarty said she likes to plan activities the whole community can be involved in. She enjoys giving the residents and the community an opportunity to spend time together while participating in several different and engaging activities.

Art prodigy Neighbors | Submitted
St. Charles students recently spent a morning with 14-year-old art prodigy Autumn de Forest at The Butler Institute of American Art. The day began with a tour of Autumn’s exhibition where she discussed her artwork and how she became the youngest artist to have her work featured in a solo museum exhibition. The students then participated in a workshop with de Forest where she shared some of her artistic techniques she developed specifically for The President’s Committee On The Arts and Humanities. The St. Charles students had the opportunity to meet de Forest at The Butler Museum through a program designed in commemoration of International Museum Day. Pictured is de Forest answering questions from St. Charles students during a tour of her solo exhibition at The Butler Art Museum.

Make a Difference Day recently took place at Saint John Greek Orthodox Church. More than 26 blankets were made by the Sunday school children. The blankets were given to Akron Children’s Hospital and the children attending Camp Nazareth, the church camp. It was an excellent opportunity for the Sunday school children to demonstrate kindness and love on Make a Difference Day. Pictured are the Sunday school children with Arlene Denney (president of Philoptochos), Diane Rice and Georgia Davis (co-chair of Make a Difference Day).

Dogs participate in Pawtober Fest By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Every Dog Matters hosted a fall bake sale at Cobblestone Corner on Oct. 15 called Pawtober Fest. Every Dog Matters and Never Muzzled set up tables at Cobblestone Corner to sell items to raise money. All of the proceeds will go back to Every Dog Matters to help with the veterinary bills for the dogs, collars, food and whatever else they need. Every Dog Matters hosts several fundraising events during the year to help raise money for the dogs. This is the second event that has been hosted at Cobblestone Corner. Heather Davis, owner, is a big animal rescue person and was more than happy to be the location for an event like this. “Everything was donated to the rescue and all the profits will go back to the dogs,” said Shirley Persinger, President of the Board. “We allow other people to bring their dogs as long as they’re friendly.” Whitehouse Farms provided complimentary apples to go with free dog treats and coffee for guests who attended. pumpkins and baked goods for sale were donated and baked by people who supported Every Dog Matters. Never Muzzled has been around for two years and does fundraising to help backyard dogs. They provide treated lumber, straw, food and other items for dogs who are living outside all day and year-round. “We are a little bit different, we do community outreach,” said Linda Liguari, founder of Never Muzzled. Both organizations are dedi-
cated to helping dogs in need; whether it be to find a forever home or to help make their current living conditions a little bit better. There was a good turnout for the size of the event and the money raised helps a lot with veterinary expenses for the dogs. There were dogs there that were available for adoption, some people brought dogs they adopted from Every Dog Matters back to visit the members of the rescue and others brought their own dogs to enjoy the day while helping dogs in the rescue.

Short Fiction Day Space is still available for area fiction writers who want to be part of the upcoming “Celebrate Short Fiction” Day. The annual literary event is scheduled for Dec. 21 from 6-9 p.m. at Courtyard Square, located at 645 E. State Street in Salem.
