Monopoli took the stage and sang holiday songs as he got the audience to participate with him. He would give instructions to different dance moves which allowed the audience to follow along. After warming up with a few songs, Monopoli brought up a handful of children to join the stage with him. The children were not the only ones who had the opportunity to get on stage with Monopoli. never turn a dog away,” said Falvey. People who attended the open house were welcome to bring their own dogs to check out the facility. Those who came were asked to bring a pet food item or any other pet necessity to donate to the Youngstown Pet Food Drive officially starting Nov. 15. Adoptable dogs from Legacy Dog Rescue were at the open house for guests and their dogs to play with. “We are trying to beat all the other RescueMe Ohio places; Cleveland, Toledo, Akron and Columbus,” said Kate Monroe,
organizer of the food drive. The food drive benefits Legacy Dog Rescue and their rescue efforts. Those who donate also have a chance of winning a custom art painting from A Dying Art Company, Ltd. “The pounds are all full, so the need for these kinds of things are huge. Winter is really tough for families so we want to make sure that nobody wants to try to make a hard decision and lose their pet,” said Monroe. There are four places to drop off supplies: Dar’s Dirty Dogs in Canfield, OM Yoga in Hubbard, Warren Harley Davidson and Dogsmartz Unleashed.

Third-grade students from Dobbins Elementary finished their performance during the Veteran’s Day Concert at Poland Seminary High School on Nov. 10.
Dobbins students salute veterans By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Poland Dobbins third-grade students performed their second annual Veterans Day concert on Nov. 10 at Poland Seminary High School. The concert was “A Musical Salute to our Veterans,” and was under the direction of Dea n Wi lson a nd Da na Venesk y, t hird-grade choir instructors, and Nick Olesko, PSHS Concert Choir director. The students sang various patriotic songs to honor veterans. For Venesky the Veterans Day Concert is something she looks forward to doing every year. Venesky was previously enlisted in the Air Force and is currently serving in the Army. “I think it’s very important to instill the patriotic feeling into the kids as they’re young and they can keep it when they get older. It’s something that stays

with them” said Venesky. The students practiced for a month, but met once a week. All together the students only had six or seven rehearsals together before their final performance. Once special surprise was when students from PSHS Concert Choir joined the thirdgrade students on stage. The third-graders never practiced with the high school students before singing with them on stage.
While practicing for the performance, the students learned about the all of the military branches. They learn about the responsibilities of each branch and what they do. The Veterans Day concert is one of the favorites of the Poland faculty. It is one of the concerts that is looked forward to most during the school year. “I am very pleased with the students, they did an amazing job,” said Venesky.

Moms and sons share super knight together By ALEXIS BARTOLOMUCCI abartolomucci@vindy.com
Super mot hers and sons came to the Lariccia Family Community center on Nov. 10 to f launt their superpowers and enjoy dinner, snacks and crafts. Karen McCallum, recreation director, worked hard to put the fifth annual event together. The sons dressed up as their
favorite superhero and some of the mothers dressed to match their sons. The night began with a super supper and some crafts before moving into the next room to take part in a six station Superhero Training Course. The two-night event was sold out both nights with 50 mother-son couples. The event started as being one night, but with the growing interest it quickly became a two-night event. Al-
though the event is now twonights there is still a waiting list for those who wish to attend. “There’s a possibility of growing again next year,” said McCallum. Surprise visits from Spiderman and Batman got the boys excited to see some of the superheroes they came dressed as. The mothers and sons had an opportunity at the last station to take a picture with the superheroes.
“There are people that come year after year and there are some new ones. It’s just a great opportunity for boys to dress up how they want to dress up,” said McCallum. The night ended with the superheroes and their trainers sharing a dance. Once the training courses were completed, the superheroes picked up their pictures and their certificate on completion before making their way back home.
