WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE VALENCIAN DELEGATE
Once again we are absolutely delighted that a company of the International status of Línea Directa have very generously contributed to our sport, thereby ensuring that the 2016 competition will be yet another success. I have been using them to provide the insurance on both my car and my house for the last ten years and I simply cannot fault their efficiency and their customer service. I would recommend them to all bowlers.
Last year saw the introduction of the Governmentís Unitary fee for Sports which was thought would result in higher Federation fees, but, because of strong protests from the Regional Presidents, a new fee was introduced, called ìaficionadoî or ìamateurî which allowed players to play all games within their own Region, but not any National, or inter-regional games or any games that qualified for any of these.
This allowed me to negotiate a good rate for our bowlers with the Valencian President, and at the same time the CBBAwho wished to legalise their situation recommended that from January 1st next year any bowler participating
in any games against other clubs must be Federated, either as an aficionado or in another National category.
With this in mind, and the fact that we also include Clubs from Murcia in our Federation, it was decided to rename our organisation, and Levante Lawn Bowls (LLB) was selected.
This is an exciting time for us and I hope that we will use this opportunity to try to increase our membership, as it continues to fall by about 7% annually.
This yearís entries in the LÌnea Directa Valencian Championship have fallen dramatically by 25% from last year, which itself had fallen 18% from the previous year. If we want these Competitions to continue they must be supported, otherwise they lose their prestige, but hopefully, with the increase in membership next year we will see a great difference.
I would like to thank all the Clubs and Owners that have offered their greens, as well as the CBUMAfor arranging Umpires, and, in the Singles, Markers, all of whom give their time so generously. Special thanks to the management of San Miguel and San Luis who will be providing a buffet for the Opening and Closing ceremonies.
My thanks also go to the venue co-ordinators who are at the venues well before the events start, and are always the last to leave, and who ensure that the Competition runs smoothly. Finally, but certainly, not last, my thanks to the Competition Committee and Kevin of the Leader, who have all worked so hard beforehand to ensure a successful event.
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible during the competition, and thank you for supporting it, and trust you will have an enjoyable time, meet up with old friends, and, for some of you, receive prizes, but to everybody, GOOD LUCK!
Bob Donnelly
Message from the FBVC President
Once again, it is an honour for me to address all players and followers of Lawn Bowls, one of the most important Sports in this Federation. La FederaciÛn de Bolos de la Comunidad Valenciana always feel especially proud of the excellent organisation of sports events, both National and International that have been organised by Lawn Bowl Clubs.
The organisation within Lawn Bowls is an indisputable reference for the rest of Spain.
This makes me as President of the FBCVproud of ever bowler in this Sport, and I offer my hearty congratulations for the work that you have done to achieve these excellent results.
In this 2016 Championships I am sure that San Miguel, La Siesta and San Luis will, as usual, be successfully organised to achieve the desired results.
I wish the best of luck to all participants in this event.
Afriendly and affectionate greeting.
The Valencian Championship Committee
JUNE JONES
San Luis Bowls Club
Secretary
Keith & I started bowling in 1992 at Kingsthorpe Bowling Club, Northampton playing both indoors and outdoors and were successful in many competitions. The Club had 3 separate committees - Indoors, Outdoors & Management. I was Secretary for the Indoor & Management and Keith Indoor League Secretary.
We moved to Spain in 2002 the location having to be near a bowls club and we have enjoyed being competitive both in competitions and leagues at the clubs at which we have been members as well as serving on their committees.
At present I am Secretary of the CBBA, a position I have held for nearly 8 years and thoroughly enjoy as it involves me in all aspects of bowls working with all the clubs. And I have been 'acting' Competition Secretary for the Federation for over 3 years and am Club Captain at San Luis Bowls Club. Abusy but very enjoyable life .
Good luck and enjoyment to all the entrants in this year's Valencian Championships.
FRED TRIGWELL
Horadada Bowls Club
Competition Secretary
I moved to Spain in 2000, never having bowled in the U.K. and whilst living in Pinar de Campoverde, many friends who played bowls, said ìwhy donít you give it a try.î Eventually I joined Horadada Bowls Club at the start of the 2009/10 season, where I took up bowling as well as developing an active role in the running of the Club, both as Club Treasurer and as the Federation Rep.
National Director Bob Donnelly (rt) following the draw with Fred Trigwell and June Jones
My wife also took up the sport so that we could both enjoy the game of bowls together.
I have held the post of Competition Secretary for the Valencian Championships since 2014 and having recently moved between clubs I find myself, once again at the club where it all started for me, Horadada Bowls Club.
I am delighted to be coordinating the Valencian Lawn Bowls Competition for the third consecutive year.
I wish all competitors and the organisers an enjoyable competition.

FROM THE SPANISH NATIONAL SQUAD
By Graham Cathcart - National Team Manager .....
On behalf of the Spanish National Squad I would like to wish all bowlers in the VALENCIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS the very best of luck.
The Spanish squad has been, and is still going through a transitional period. Since taking over in January, I have been trying to implement changes in the make up of the squad surrounding its organisational structure and approach. This hasnít been easy and there is srill a long way to go.
It wouldnít have been possible to have made the changes thus far but for the help and support of a few people over the past
few months, in particular ñ Bob Donnelly, Tom Rogers, Pete Bonsor, John Colquhoun, Tony Hesketh-Field, Derek Toozer and Russell ìMr. Tî Marks.
We recently held a trial weekend which proved to be very productive. We are still on the lookout for players who would like to be considered to join the squad either as a player or to work in the ìbackroom staffî.
If you would like to get a trial or would like to help out with the squad please contact me at graham.cathcart@me.com.
NEXTSTOPFOR THE SQUAD IS THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN NEWZEALAND IN NOVEMBER.I am sure the squad will once again make Spain and themselves very proud.
As is the case in all competition, only one person / team can win. However, if everyone plays the game with the correct spirit and sporting manner EVERYONE wins. I therefore sincerely hope at the end of the VALENCIAN CHAMPIONSHIP that EVERYONE is a winner and will have enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
Best of luck to all.
